Thanks niemivh, after being awake for 24 hours + a good laugh is certainly appreciated.
102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Portrait of 2 Kevin Days. Or are they the Same Person? You decide. on: June 21, 2011, 05:16:37 AM
Definately not the same guy; now when the "real" Kevin Day has posted a close-up it's obviously not the same guy as the other guy.

I think "open" means one can update one's account, not open for trading.

I didn't actually notice the sign-in option on support.mtgox; I've been updating the page for 10 hours or so. Well, it's possible to login but not possible to see any account information.

1) Is MtGox still solvent? and/or Have they claimed to have enough funds?
2) Are there any verifiable sources about their possible legal troubles in Japan?
3) The moment we pass the new verification stage, are we allowed to look at our account, or are there more delays at that stage?

Very valid questions, although nr: 5 is confirmed as not possible. Particularly nr: 4; there cannot be any legal impediment to posting some kind of documentation relating to the police case - any document would be better than no document.
104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What time is Mtgox opening? on: June 21, 2011, 03:50:48 AM
Given that the time is almost 1 pm in Tokyo, and the latest message on support.mtgox still states that mtgox will open in Japan morningtime, it is a valid question to Mark Karpeles.

Can you update the information?
105  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Pegging Values on Physical Goods on: June 21, 2011, 01:25:08 AM
Yeah, I agree with capn noe. Bitcoin "value" is far to unstable, I'm surprised that any businesses take bitcoins. Even during the past days before the crash, when valuation was reasonably steady, valuation fluctuated about 10% daily. And if one looks at the whole history its not practicable. Of course, in order for bitcoin to become more generally accepted, more people/businesses must use it, but as you don't want to hope for the best...

It is better to forget and generate a new one through the "recover password" options that all site offer.
I forgot my banking password a several times, but I created new ones later.
I keep relying on my forgetfulness as a measure to keep changing the passwords. Whenever I forget about it, I just create a new one.

Regarding to storing the passwords in a text/doc file, it is horrible. That is the digital version of postits.
Follow the advises of the previous posters: 1password or any password management program would be infinitely better.

In these password management programs, you just have to memorize one password, the pass management program's. There you store all the passwords you want securely and randomly generated.
It has its strong and weak points theoretically, but in practice it enhances your security tenfold.

Thanks, bitsalame. I shall have to think through a different strategy.
107  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Has anyone speculated on Mt.Gox's mystery auditor yet? on: June 21, 2011, 12:48:02 AM
In Tradehill's defence, not everyy operator needs to know the security, several of them have experience from exchanges. Given the immense security lapses at mtgox, if Tradehill want to be taken seriously, they must invest in security and prove to users that it has done so. I would reckon that their security is better than mtgox as theyr have experience from exchanges, but until they give some information as to how/who is running their security they are not a solution to the issue of mtgox, only an unknown alternative - or so I reckon.

Can someone please enlighten me of the dangers of keeping passdwords in word.doc files on the harddisk, and is it safer to keep them on usb flashdrives, even if they are regularly connected to the computer?

It's not that I can't remember a complicated password; however IF one were to forget it at some critical point of time...under duress
109  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: NEWBS WANTED on: June 21, 2011, 12:24:59 AM
Why don't you try posting this in regualr section instead of hoping that some gullible newbs might fall for it (no disrespect to newbs - I'm a newb too).
110  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What really happened to Mt Gox ... on: June 21, 2011, 12:21:35 AM
Well, the answers posted by Mtgox are not sufficient. They still haven't answered how come 500.000 were stored by one single holder; which is very hard to believe. Either many accounts have been exploited, or more likely, it was mtgox's own account that stored this amount.

I think that most likely someone inside/outside mtgox hacked the site and has done away with far more bitcoins than mtgox is willing to acknowledge. Mtgox is furthemore palying for time by pushing forward opening time, as it does yet not know the full extent/full extent of the monetary value/or solutions to the lost bitcoins.

Probably more likely that someone hacked from the outside, as if it were an inside job it could have been done much smother without crashing the system. However, Kevin is more than very likely to be innocent as who in their right mind would be involved in a crime and then instead of just keeping quiet, announce that they have traded etc.
111  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Day Low/High and Open sums changed on: June 11, 2011, 05:17:27 PM
I was watching http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/ about an hour ago. The day Low/High and Open sums were in the regions of 22-29 USD, and the latest price was 26 USD. Then the latest price changed directly to 17 usd, and day Low/high and Open sums changed to roughly 14-24 and open 23.9 (as it currently states on the site). After maybe 20 minutes all of the sums changed to the previous higher sums in the regions of 22-29 usd; this lasted for about 1 minute and then the sums switched back to exactly the sums prior to the raise.

What on earth happened, of course it's not "market fluctuations".
