101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: IOTA on: December 19, 2016, 02:35:20 AM
I can't wait to get some JINN news!!

Same here, I was buying JINN lately as IOTA believer, but have no clue what is going on with the project right now. I guess they are putting whole time and energy in IOTA now, but it makes sense strategically as adoption of IOTA is what shold give JINN value.

From what I have gathered, they have another team working on JINN right now. And as CFB has finished up the code of IOTA he will be switching his efforts back to JINN moving forward...

We accept NEM. Our NEM escrow is Jeff McDonald and Lon Wong from NEM

NO thanks!

If the main blockchain platform was NEM, I'd consider.

But you choose ETH, I  mean what could possibly go wrong with Ethereum ...

Agree. Ethereum's smart contracts are still one big experiment. "Code is Law" to now code != law.
The DAO bailout was the first. Will there be future fund reversals or blacklists? Probably.

Agreement and standardization in the banking sector is very challenging.
The main obstacles most likely has little to do with technology, rather the competition, self-preservation and especially the big egos.
Each one has differing corporate strategies and wants control.

With the NEM-Mijin alliance offering public and permissioned blockchains, NEM will always be a viable option.
Catapult is probably months away, whereas Corda is years.

I bought at 1,100sats, 900sats and now buying more at 550sats.

The funds exist for a silver coin project, but it would be quite a large undertaking and NEM doesn't have anybody right now that has a lot of free time as all the marketers are working on other projects.  If we can find somebody to manage the project, then it might come to life.

...-new-customized-coins-free-shipping-silver-plated-Physical-FTC-Feathercoin

why not make a silver coin in denomination of 100, 1000, 10000 XEM engraved NEM and shield? as in his time did for bitcoin, and where some had the value of bitcoin and equivalent, and some specimens had remained as a souvenir

Tokens with the NEM shield would look nice.
Skip the silver/gold plated junk, the bullion rounds must be .999 fine.

NEM did have the best distribution of any Alt IPO. Unfortunately, I just don't see the Alt market going anywhere. Everyone is looking at Bitcoin and features like Rootstock will make many Alts useless. A business isn't going to integrate with an Alt when they can integrate with the largest Blockchain ecosystem (Bitcoin).  Right now, companies don't even know what to do with Blockchain, by the time they do, Bitcoin will have the features ready. Most people won't have the stomach for Alts beyond speculation. The only Alts that will survive (in my opinion) will be those that can directly interact with Bitcoin.  It sucks, but the Alt coin boom is over and dead.

On the contrary, the boom is imminent. We are at the beginning phase of Blockchain technology.

Blue - successive groups of banks/companies/consumers adopting blockchain tech.
Yellow - market share will eventually reach a saturation level.

I had you in my ignore list which is pretty short - just 3 entries. Do you know why I put you there? I can't recall that.

You made me blush! Really, I got on your list? That's surprising to hear.
Some of my older non-IOTA posts might be interpreted as trolling, and who here hasn't done a little of that?

I am not a trader, so nothing is gained by causing a pump. I'm in this for the long-term.
Natural growth that is slow and steady combined with the buy and hold strategies of Warren Buffett and John Bogle work pretty well.

In my opinion bitcoin will eventually be dethroned by superior technologies, like blockchain 2.0 platforms and the new tangle.
For the most part I am a lurker, these are just my public service announcements. Smiley

Jinn-mania!

Things are heating up, Jinn is now 2nd place in trading volume.
https://www.mynxt.info/assets/

Ranks 15th on the asset market cap.
https://coinmarketcap.com/assets/

I think the savvy ones are loading up now before the launch.
Once they exit stealth mode and the media blitz begins, Jinn will probably skyrocket.

The market for IoT, IIoT and M2M can only increase in size.

IOTA is the future.
+Scalable distributed ledger
+No blockchain
+No fees
+Quantum resistance
+Lightweight

Jinn has been on my radar from the beginning and I'm glad I picked-up my stack during the lull. Smiley

Still climbing nicely. Jinn is now the #1 asset in trading volume.

115  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Iota reach 10,000 satoshi before lauch? on: May 14, 2016, 03:22:33 PM
What is the ratio between the "old" IOTA compared to the "new" IOTA after the developers decided to remove the decimals?

1 old iota = 2.78 million new iotas

Sounds like a lot, but supply of old iotas was 360 times larger, if you count decimals as well.

Yes, IOTA has no decimals so in caparison Bitcoins Max coins would be 2,100,000,000,000,000 if Satoshi wanted no decimals but still wanted to have the same amount of units at launch.

Bitcoin = 21,000,000/0.00000001 = 2,100,000,000,000,000 units
IOTA = 2,779,530,283,277,761 units

IOTA's supply is 32% larger than bitcoin.

NEM's supply is one of the biggest.

NEM = 8,999,999,999/0.000001 = 8,999,999,999,000,000 units
116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: IOTA on: May 14, 2016, 01:32:02 PM
How many Iotas exist now?

2'779'530'283'277'761

about 2.78 Piota

(27^11-1)/2 = 2779530283277761

117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [IOTA] IOTA Speculation on: May 03, 2016, 11:31:12 AM
We should maybe all use GigaIotas (GI) for trading here. Giga or Mega will most likely be used by the exchanges I would guess.

How do you calculate how much GI your Iotas are: "your Iotas" / 1 000 000 000
Put that in a calculator and you will get your balance in GI Wink

By the way, the total supply of iota is 2779530283277761. In GigaIotas that  is 2 779 530.28328
So a total supply of around 2.8 million GI Wink

Yes, we should all use the SI prefixes.

10^15    peta  P
10^12    tera  T
10^9    giga  G
10^6    mega  M
10^3    kilo  k
10^2    hecto  h
10^1    deka  da

When you say 2.8 million GI, you are mixing a long/short scale word with the SI prefix.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_and_short_scales
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metric_prefix

The total supply is 2779530283277761 iotas = 2.779530283277761 petaiotas  ~= 2.77 PI

This brings into question the scope of Gavin's crypto understanding.
Reminds me of the 2014 Jeff "hashes do not match" Garzik moment.

Until Wright can shift around one of Satoshi’s initial bitcoins, I will remain skeptical of him and Gavin "sigs match" Andresen.

Could you confirm the change of 2'779'530'283'277'761 max supply instead of 999999999.999999 ?

correct.

Since the amounts are so big now, we use kilo, mega, giga, tera and peta units.

Some conversions in JavaScript http://jsbin.com/?js,console

}

var supply = 2779530283277761;
console.log("IOTA supply= "+supply);
console.log(toTernary(supply)+" ternary");

var t = "111111111111111111111111111111111";
console.log(fromTernary(t)+" decimal");

//var t= Math.log2(3);
var t= Math.log(3) / Math.log(2);
console.log("1 trit= log2(3)= ln(3)/ln(2)= "+t+ " bits");

When NEM gets on zaif we'll see a big bump in price like we did when people could buy NEM with CNY. I bet my money on it.

Zaif=bump is practically a sure thing, but I am holding out for the big time. The traders will only take your XEM if you sell.
With our steady growth, it continuously gets more costly to accumulate. Hodl, the real boom is coming.
