The funds exist for a silver coin project, but it would be quite a large undertaking and NEM doesn't have anybody right now that has a lot of free time as all the marketers are working on other projects.  If we can find somebody to manage the project, then it might come to life.

What is silver coin project ?
We want mint silver coins ?
Pure silver or some "silver casting" there is a lot of companies in Poland which are taking such tasks
all depends of number of coins / material / coin type here is some company preview what they do:
http://www.polish-coins.com/biciemonet.php
( i believe that i any country, people do such stuff in Poland salaries are quite low so probably will be cheaper )

or stuff from random internet service:
https://personalizedcoins.com/pricing

Such project is doable we just need quantity, design project and then financing it some how.
We can ask local companies of pricing such thing and 10 people will have to reflect if they want pay lets say 150$ for silver NEM coin
(shippinng mintig cost ext maybe some taxes coin itself can be sended even by mail  )
Orders Aliexpres china Poland are going without any problem.
We can allso ask some shop retailer to list such stuff for +20% fee all depends on deal
in such way all people around can get coin when they want.

Okey i like aliexpress so i have found :
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2014-new-customized-coins-free-shipping-silver-plated-Physical-FTC-Feathercoin/1692969875.html?spm=2114.01020208.3.240.rAoM90&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_8,searchweb201602_2_10057_10056_10065_10068_10055_10054_10069_10059_10058_10073_10017_10070_10060_10061_10052_10062_10053_10050_10051,searchweb201603_2&btsid=42f4e40e-c203-4fec-850d-abf512f19dc8

115$ for piece of custom coin ^^ if you find better supplier give a shot

Okay thanks, this is new to me. Is there an announcement or anything else which describes the reason(s) for porting to C++?

Any time schedule for this?

....

Yes there was in december blog post somewhere Cheesy... main reason is to speed NEM into 4digs tx/s,
to there is rush into performance using lower resources ( probably companies needs that with rissing infrastructure).

There is any schedule for this probably they will test it - if fails it needs to be fixed and that takes some time giving ETAs
what we know there is one full time developer working on it.

http://bitcoinist.net/tech-bureau-and-nem-develop-catapult-blockchain-engine/

if i remember right, the silver coin project was planned to give every early stakeholder a coin with an additional stake if they did not sell it till now

why not make a silver coin in denomination of 100, 1000, 10000 XEM engraved NEM and shield? as in his time did for bitcoin, and where some had the value of bitcoin and equivalent, and some specimens had remained as a souvenir

Tokens with the NEM shield would look nice.
Skip the silver/gold plated junk, the bullion rounds must be .999 fine.

I would like to announce some bounties.

The first is a 5,000 XEM bug bounty for the new Nano wallet.  This is a limited time bounty to make sure it will be ready for the next NIS updated.  Please download, unzip, click on start.html, and test. https://forum.nem.io/t/nano-wallet-beta-1-0-10-testnet-5-000-xem-bug-bounty/2791

The next set of bounties is for a round of prototype projects. Most are 75,000 XEM bounties. Please feel free to share these bounties with developers you may know.  https://forum.nem.io/t/nem-s-prototype-project-bounty-program/2822

5,000 XEM = more than $25
75,000 XEM = more than $400

The fund is meant for minting custom silver coins for all of the initial stakeholders.

As i understand the main problem with this is the fact that liquidating the fund right now would tank nem price HARD. As you said custom coins are around $100 and given that the amount of initial stakeholders is somewhere around 2800(?) the whole buy support on polo wouldn't be nearly enough to achieve that. I don't doubt for a moment that if you make sure you can still access your nemesis account when the time comes all the initial stakeholders will have their silver coins at some point but right now the only people who would stand to gain anything from pushing the plan through are the people who already sold their xem and only want the silver to sell it too.

yes i did remember it as a reward program for early supporter.

But I think the option to buy some in the bitcoin casascius minted way would be an additional good thing too

would be interesting to know how many did not move a single coin

You can have a look at the Richlist. Just count all Accounts with 2.250.000 XEM that didn't move.

Thats easy to find out from here: http://blockexplore.in/search/richlist/

But i don't think the silver coin plan ever required people not to sell or move any of their xem from the nemesis account because a lot of people have moved some or all of their xem for security reasons but still have the keys to access it if needed which i think should be enough.

I think the coin thing was a pretty weird idea to start with and now its time has long passed. Plenty of stakeholders are long gone or never arrived in the first place.

I believe otherwise, nem has come a long way tbh. I bought this coin when it was just 42 sats. From then on the spur of ICO spinoffs held and got some leverage by selling half of my XEM investment, just left A substantial amount . And now enjoying several premium blockchain assets . Thank you NEM, go for the long haul.

That's how fast investments regarding blockchain assets will have ROIs . I regret not having etherium but newer and much promising platforms I anticipated are well intact such as waves, stratis and upcoming wings.

Didn't I read just 10 seconds ago that WAVES needs a 70% rewrite and that there are no public fullnodes for now ?

Is that true? Why do you need to rewrite when NEM is already in existence for the last 1.5 years? What Waves wants to do is what NEM already has, and Catapult will take it into space when it is released. If I were waves, I would just wrap a user interface and put in all the bells and whistles into it and finish up the product as Waves. lol.

Catapult already in test mode internally of its functions.

I don't recall saying anything about NEM's present health. I was talking about the silver coin idea. I think it adds a vast amount of complication with little or no gain.
