101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dark Wallet: Let There Be Dark! on: May 05, 2014, 12:05:53 PM
Feeling a bit useless. Two Newbie-style questions:

1. Where do I go to give feedback on Dark wallet?  I have noticed a couple of things but not sure where to post/tell.

2. Is there any user-friendly info on what stealth addresses, coinjoin and multi-sig do and how to use them within dark wallet? Stealth addresses in particular have me completely baffled and what I've read so far hasn't made me any less baffled ;-(

Many thanks

I guess the best way is to visit their official website:
http://darkwallet.is/

and write them an email or post in their forum.

Is there any good overview of what DarkWallet *is*?

I backed it for the wallet and privacy aspect, but what's with the "lobby"? And chat rooms!? It's like an electrum server but you can chat with other users? What's the use case for that?

great work anyway, nice to see you guys delivering
The lobby is just a trollbox, like the one on BTCe. You can use it to chat with other darkwallet users.

Hi,

I'm missing a payment.  On the pool side, it shows a payment. On blockchain.info it also shows the payment. But it's not showing on my wallet!!

Could someone please clarify how I could fix this.

thanks.

If the transaction is on the blockchain then the payment from waffle was successful. Check that the receiving address is the same (check every single char). If the address is correct then the problem could be with Electrum, try to upgrade it to a newer version or to re-initialize it with your seed, even on another pc or on a virtual machine.

Darkwallet is possibly the second best thing after Bitcoin. Go on guys, long live freedom.

Canadians took the radical step of studying the issue before recommending any enforcement action.

But seriously, rights are never given, they must be taken. Look at it this way: society consists of people, each trying to reach their goals and pushing in their direction. The more you push, the bigger area of freedom you'll get. In the long run only the power matters, the laws would just legalize the existing balance of power. That's why being submissive in the worst strategy ever. Yours is only what you can protect. If you don't push back,  if they feel no resistance, they'll come and take everything. It doesn't matter how hard you'll try not to give them an excuse, they'll find excuses when they want them. If we won't fight for privacy, we will get none.

I'd like to see some alternatives too for the GPU miners. Maybe he needs to launch clevergpumining.com...

Huh

Clevermining is a scrypt pool.  It's all about "GPU miners."

Not for long.

Not anymore.

GPU miners are just nobs anyway, the pros moved on to ASICs.

Love to see nobs losing their money!  Cool

Who said exchange rates do not change? You do not understand. Clearly. It is IMPOSSIBLE to trade the coins as soon as they are mined. For one, many coins have high confirms to rid multipools. two, Nothing I say to you, you understand b/c you obviously are very hard headed.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to trade the coins as soon as they are mined. You are right. But what about some hours later? How that explains unexchanged payoffs dating back to March and earlier? Is that due to my hard-headedness? Cheesy
109  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AUTO-SWITCH] Profit-switch auto-exchange pool: CleverMining.com on: April 28, 2014, 01:54:09 PM
What you don't understand is that for the most part, the reason profitability changes is because of changes in the difficulty of mining the coin, not changes in the value of the coin.
The multipool switches to the coin because it can mine more coins. It doesn't matter as much when it actually sells them.

I understand very well that mining difficulty is very important. But you cannot say that exchange rates don't change during several hours and that they are basically ininfluent. This could be true, in some measure, between bitcoin and litecoin, but it doesn't hold for all the alt currencies.
110  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AUTO-SWITCH] Profit-switch auto-exchange pool: CleverMining.com on: April 28, 2014, 01:42:25 PM
You're an idiot.

Do these pool OPs use magic?

Don't come talking when you have no idea how things work.

EDIT: and I am not "jocking"

Ok so you just don't get it. As I said you are beyond help.

Anyway, in case anybody is interested to understand, I will just explain that trading once every two hours could be good enough to save profitability. If there are two people trading, it is six trades for each of them every day.
Are they supposed to do this? If they are hobbists, no. If they presume to run a pool professionally (i.e. bring revenue to associates and get a fee for their work), then yes. Else people will just switch to other pools.

EDIT: I dont want to imply that clevermining is not run diligently. That was only in reply to someone's questions. My original question is: why are there still unexchanged payoffs dating back to January, February and March?
111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AUTO-SWITCH] Profit-switch auto-exchange pool: CleverMining.com on: April 28, 2014, 01:31:44 PM
Oh vay....Let me ask you something..

When a new coin comes out and it is not on Cryptsy, which for as far as I know is the only "auto-exchange". Then the trade has to be done MANUALLY. Do you have time to sit in front of your pc and watch the coins come in and then click trade after they transfer to whichever wallet and exchange that has to be used. If yes, get a life. But the answer is no, as no one really can.

You surely are jocking... or you just don't realize that altcoin profitabily (compared to LTC) changes by the hours... so it would be completely pointless to mine now a coin that has, let say, 20% profitability and to exchange it six hours later when its profitability is -10%. If you really believe that is the way to run a multicoin pool then you are beyond help bro!
112  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AUTO-SWITCH] Profit-switch auto-exchange pool: CleverMining.com on: April 28, 2014, 10:10:05 AM
1 they are not worth what they were when mined.
2 they are coins that are hard to sell now.
3 there is such a small amount of each it's not even worth transferring them.

Aren't alt coins supposed to be exchanged right after mining them? What is the purpose of holding them until they are worth less? This is supposed to be a mining pool, not a trading pool.
113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Just bought my first tangible thing with bitcoin - so exciting on: April 27, 2014, 03:11:42 PM
Since late 2013 it seems few people have realized the real potential of bitcoin. I never sell my bitcoin, I spend it. Each time I do I have the same experience you have had. It's the fastest, safest, and cheapest way to use money on the net.
I use it several times a week at restaurants, stores, private sales. It's awesome! I feel sorry for the suckers who hear about bitcoin and think they are going to get rich as "investors". That was never the intention of bitcoin. It is for buying stuff.

I use my bitcoin and litecoin mostly for spending too. But I usually get them in the same way, since my business accepts those two currencies as payment.

Can I ask why there are still some unexchanged BTCs from february and march, way back to January 22, 2014?

I have noticed that on this pool there is a long delay, several hours usually, before mined coins are exchanged for bitcoins.
My question is: doesn't this undermine the very concept of multi-coin mining, i.e. mining the coins that are most profitable in that moment? If you wait several hours before trading at the exchange don't you risk to lose profitability (or to take a loss)?

The pool marks coins as exchanged after they are withdrawn from exchanges plus three confirmations. Actual exchanging into BTC is done much earlier and is ongoing. Withdrawing is done few times per day and at this moment balances are marked as exchanged.

Thanks, this sounds reasonable and answers my question.

EDIT: you may wish to write this on the website, other people may wonder. Great job on your pool!

Then you had made a better deal buying the coins instead of mining them, your logic is not solid when it comes to business...

You hit the nail.

By changing the algorithm on a regular base no ASIC company will invest in creating an ASIC for it.

So you actually intend to fork the coin to implement a new algorithm every time ASICs catch up? This is not just a scam, this is scam to the power of ten Cheesy

P.S. OMG I cannot believe there are people so naive to fall into this
How is it a scam?

Do you actually believe that guy? If you believe that a coin can be succesfully forked with a new algo every some months without creating a big mess (and basically destroying it) then you are beyond help bro!
