They already accept bitcoin and those prices aren't much cheaper than what they offer already. It's only $6.55 per month if you buy their 12 month package. Are you just giving out access to your own account or are these brand new individual accounts?

and what is that used for? sorry noob here.

It's just a VPN/Proxy service to hide your online identity https://www.hidemyass.com/
102  Other / Off-topic / Re: What phone do you use and what do you think about it? on: March 25, 2015, 08:35:32 AM
I'm looking to go for a HTC. I was going to get a One M8 but I see the M9 comes out in a few days but they don't look much different. In fact, they look almost identical though the newer model has a much better camera. Should I buy that or pick up a cheaper M8? I'm guessing the price will fall on the older model once it's released.

I think I actually prefer the older model in looks, though the 20mp camera is attractive.
103  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: SELLING BITCOINTALK ACCOUNTS (Aged Accounts 2011 and 2012) on: March 25, 2015, 08:32:13 AM
sorry,i mean the rank of an account is based on how much posts they create or reply to?

if you talk about 0.1 for Sr member acc. we can definitly have a talk

Sort of. Activity points is what causes accounts to achieve a higher rank and you get the points by making posts in each activity period. It's quite confusing but merely making posts wont necessarily make you a higher rank unless you have posted in many two week activity periods.

104  Other / Off-topic / Re: Beats Headphones Cost $14 to Make on: March 25, 2015, 08:24:20 AM
We had a horsemeat scandal in the UK if you guys remember that, exact same thing, everyone saw the brand, looked at the price and then bought it without even stopping to think where all that cheap meat was coming from.

That's a little different, though. With that scandal it was the abattoirs & meat processing plants that were cutting corners by using cheaper horsemeat to replace the beef or whatever and thought they could get away with it. Everyone was duped by their coin from the supermarkets to the customers. Nobody really knows what's in any of their food so that's why tighter regulations are needed in my opinion.

I personally bought Beats headphones. The new Mixr ones, all black. Here's what I have to say:

They're shit. They have little support, and they make my ears hurt. I own around 5 other headphones (music fan Tongue), and none else have any problems. The sound quality is decent, and the bass is good, which I like. If I didn't get these cheap on eBay, I would've been pissed.

Don't buy them. Go with Sony, etc.

Are you sure they're not fake? These sound like complaints of the cheaper knock-off versions, though Beats headphones are notoriously bass-heavy.

Personally I never understood the beats craze.  But at university there are some people that use them as a fashion statement more then headphones.

I personally like quality at a cheaper price, and not wearing a banner across my head for a company.

Doesn't really count as "fashion" either.

Why not? It's just like a fashion accessory, but useable. No different to wearing a hat or headband or something. People quite clearly do only wear them for the fashion / brand even if they wont admit it.
105  Economy / Services / Re: Up to 0.035 BTC weekly for YOUR SIGNATURE *New rules on: March 25, 2015, 07:52:03 AM
Considering registrations are closed and considering BTC is stuck at this low price, has a raise of payment been considered?
People are asking this every time bitcoin price goes down. Funny they are not asking about downgrading their payment when bitcoin price goes higher.
And it is not like BTC is 'stuck' it will rise again, just earn coins now, wait for pump and you will be good. The best part of bitmixer's campaign is its stability.

People are greedy. It has always been like this.

There is no reason for Bitmixer to increase payments. 0.035BTC is 0.035BTC no matter what the exchange rate is showing.
Bullshit. If the exchange rate was 1 BTC = 1 USD you wouldn't bother.
Right now 0.035 BTC is 8 dollars. This is Low specially for those Sr Member and above, most of the other campaings are paying way better. Whats attractive from this campaing is definitely the fact that it's automated and you don't have to deal with the campaing owners, having to re-enroll every month and have luck that no one takes your spot again etc... thats fucking annoying. The sense of stability is crucial, knowing that month after month you'll get paid is HUGE, it feels more serious, it feels even more as a real job than for a lot of people living in shitty countries were their jobs are temporal and then they get kicked, sometimes after days.
The problem is when BTC price goes down it starts being a bit not worth the time and effort.
The next step to make this the ultimate campaing is automating the payment depending on the Bitcoin price. Stablishing a decent amount in USD which is non volatile, then get paid these USD monthly in BTC. This solves the problem

Campaign rates don't seem to have changed much over the past half a year. Even when the bitcoin price fell from £400 to what it is now and bitcoin has fallen from £200 to £160 over a day or two but it'll probably go back up at some point. I think changing the rates would be a bit of a faff, though maybe if they fell significantly they would think about it, but like I said before the rest of the campaigns rates are offering have remained pretty stable despite bitcoin losing significant value. It's still decent money merely for posting but if you hold it you'll likely see big gains eventually any way.
106  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How did Mt. Gox become so successful? on: March 25, 2015, 07:25:51 AM
It seems that even before Mt. Gox collapsed with 850,000 BTC missing, it had a very negative reputation in the community. Other than the fact that they were one of the first exchanges, how was Mt. Gox able to gain such a large market share with such a bad reputation, history of hacks, glitches, lack of support, withdrawal delays, and poor security practices?

Anyone care to explain why this is so? Do market principles no longer apply if you happen to be one of the earliest players in your industry?

I think they just had the brand name. I remember even before I signed up here and lurked for a few months I never heard any good things about gox and just bad with people complaining how lousy their service was and 99% of users advising others to stay away, but it was the only exchange that ever got mentioned in the media so I think people naturally flocked to it because it seemed the most popular and trusted source to get coins. People were still using it though even when the trouble started.
107  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Satoshi's coins will never hit the market on: March 25, 2015, 06:55:36 AM

No I'm not. You two just don't know what you're talking about nor what effect dumping a shit tonne of coins on the exchanges has on the price. It's you who doesn't understand how simple supply and demand works because you wouldn't be saying this and it has absolutely nothing to do with the 'robustness' of the system. Bitcoin will continue working fine but the price you pay for them will be significantly less.

I didn't say it wouldn't have an effect, I said using words like "catastrophic" and "disastrous" are an exaggeration and FUD.

And your reasoning and logic behind this is what exactly? You just sound ignorant when you call an opinion you disagree with 'fud'. How would dumping half a billion dollars worth of bitcoins on the market (or how ever many satoshi has) not have an effect? Do you think the price of bitcoin will still the same? No.
108  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: OpenBazaar - decentralized eBay on: March 24, 2015, 06:48:23 PM
this bazaar? open?

No. It's still in development.

Is ducky an alt of notlambchop? Smiley

The FBI will see this as a threat.  ------ Just got  a call back and hes glad I reported it.  Good news for us who worry about security.

What sort of security is that?

Terrorist can use it to send messages

WOW! Terrorists will never use platforms like twitter, gmail, and crappy copies of SMF to communicate. You may save us all from death and destruction yet.

And unfortunately that's why the NSA sees fit to spy on everyones communications under those platforms because the excuse they use is trying to stop 'terrorism' but what it's really about is just controlling the populace.
109  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Satoshi's coins will never hit the market on: March 24, 2015, 06:44:24 PM

Disastrous? How so?  They were meant to be spent, spending them supports bitcoin.  Satoshi didn't design this all and mean for people to not use millions of bitcoins.

Yes, but that's irrelevant. It would be catastrophic if someone dumped that amount of coins on an exchange. Look what happens when people dump relatively small amounts in comparison. The price falls drastically. Its basic supply and demand.
You clearly did not read the posts you're quoting.

How do you work that out? You're saying bitcoin were meant to be spent so it's ok and wouldn't be disastrous if all his coins were dumped but that is completely irrelevant to the point here so I don't think you are reading the posts you're quoting or if you are you're certainly not understanding them or articulating your point properly.

You're overreacting again.  "Catastrophic", really?  I think you underestimate the robustness of the system and how supply and demand work.  FUD

110  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best BTC News site? on: March 24, 2015, 06:26:05 PM
It's not coindesk's decision to not accept bitcoin, it's the stores from which they're getting it from as far as I know.

What do you mean stores? What stores? It's entirely their decision. All they need to do is accept it. Simple as. It's completely their choice not to do so but the fact that they don't is scandalous. I like coindesk just to clarify but my opinion really changed about them with this fact.
111  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: OpenBazaar - decentralized eBay on: March 24, 2015, 06:05:46 PM
Some folks sure do jump to conclusions... drugs?... sex?... silk road?... I'm sure they know what it takes to stay in business and it ain't supporting illegal activity.
Sheesh... Take a pill (oops here comes the FBI)  Roll Eyes

What business is that? It's a decentralized libertarian market ie you can sell whatever you want on there. Naturally people are going to want to sell drugs. I think it's naive to assume otherwise.

The FBI will see this as a threat.  ------ Just got  a call back and hes glad I reported it.  Good news for us who worry about security.

Which I couldn't help but translate as:

I think this duckydonald guy is just trolling now actually.
112  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is there any good news upcoming? on: March 24, 2015, 05:59:12 PM
If you turn your attention away towards making a short term gain, and instead change it towards long term goals, probably that would help. Else it will get you so desperate. As long as the fundamentals are set right, there shouldn't be anything to worry about. Yeah, price will dip but with continued growth in adoption rate, it should overall be positive.
Very wise words. Instead of watching daily price ticks and getting excited or depressed by the daily price action, try to use these dips to your advantage if you are Bitcoin-positive long-term. Same applies for short play, start at the top of the current horizontal channel ($285-290) and play from there. Now, in both cases mind your stops and invest only what you can afford to lose.

Agreed. If you're waiting on some good news merely to push the price up then you might be waiting a while. I'd relax and have some patience and see the long term potential from bitcoin. Rather than wait for news lets just wait for some actual adoption and use by a huge industry then the little price rises will look like small fry in comparison.
113  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Satoshi's coins will never hit the market on: March 24, 2015, 05:30:42 PM
I don't get that mentality. Why would the price crash because satoshi is using his bitcoins?

He was the first miner and it's estimated he must have mined between half a million to one and a half million bitcoins. If he chose to dump them he could clear out all the buy orders on every exchange in an instant. Look at the damage the bear whale did by dumping a tiny fraction of the coins Satoshi mined.

yeah, if he dumps ALL of his coins, that wouldn't be good.

But if he sells 10 bitcoins, it really shouldn't be any different than you selling 10 bitcoins or me selling 10 bitcoins.

If satoshi was going to spend any coins he would of by now. I think people would panic if he did spend even ten because spending the rest could be quite disastrous.

Disastrous?

The markets themselves wern't the weak links. I think most of the people that get caught were caught from making silly errors like Ross was. It's not that hard to track the sellers down when you have to go and post the items. You can find fingerprints on packages and narrow down where they're sent from. Then you just stake out the places and wait. Eventually you'll get a catch.

Yes, good old fashion police work will still catch "criminals" , but what happens when you have a market of thousands of small time dealers competing in a thriving market with little assets each to seize? They can make a few examples at a loss but will eventually run out of money and have to focus their attention on the larger criminals.

Police can never take down all the crime even in the real world. The majority of crimes or drug dealers go unpunished because they just dont have the resources or intel to cope with it. They usually just work with what info they have and take down what they can when someone slips up. It's hard work but they won't stop doing it.

Some small time dealers who make mistakes will indeed be caught as well, many small dealers that follow a few precautions will be able to thrive and good for them. I will only be selling legal items on openbazzar as I would have to be a complete idiot to be so outspoken and try and sell illegal items.

Depends how good at keeping yourself anonymous is, but I wouldn't like the stress and paranoia or attempting to do so that's for sure.

But if he sells 10 bitcoins, it really shouldn't be any different than you selling 10 bitcoins or me selling 10 bitcoins.

If only.

If there's anything the last year or more has taught us, it's that BTC holders relish a good panic sell.

Can you imagine if even 1 satoshi moves from his address? The entire bitcoin community would go into meltdown and panic mode. Part of me thinks its probably wise those coins never move but satoshi could do some good with them in the future and I'm sure he'd be wise about how he used or moved them. He wouldn't be stupid enough to just dump them.
116  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: OpenBazaar - decentralized eBay on: March 24, 2015, 04:58:38 PM
You can't arrest or put people in jail when no crime has been committed or even before one has. They don't have some sort of Minority Report Pre-Crime Internet Unit. They'll just have to learn to deal with it when it comes and go after the individual dealers which is what will happen.

It will be interesting to see how tracking down individual drug dealers will be effective with a decentralized marketplace with strong privacy protections built in. It took the combined efforts of multiple departments and millions to catch Ross Ulbrict. They may find that they have a limited budget and need to focus on investigating murders for hire and child porn instead of victimless crimes like drug dealing.

open bazzar will become another dark market site, and will be destroyed by govs, this is a waste of time and money.  This site shouldnt be released, cause its to much of a political statment.  The can make this site illegal, and you will def not have privacy.  This site might get traffic but from the dark side.  People are not geeks will not trust a system like, this as people like to have a place or someone to contact, we are in a world where social is everything.  Not a good idea for legitimate people.
This is what will happen if you sell or buy at another Dark Market site, do you think legit sellers are gonna sell here?

What are you talking about? How can govs destroy it when there's no central authority to take down? You might as wells ay the gov will take down bitcoin because they're based on the same principals and are both great political statements. If people want drugs let them have it. If people want decentralized digital money let them have that too.
They can arrest the or stop the creators, or put them all in jail before it can happen

Quote
but the most intriguing detail of that whole sorry saga was that the real Satoshi did apparently come forwards and make a terse statement on his P2P Foundation account, which had been unused in 5 years: ‘I am not Dorian Nakamoto’. Otherwise, Satoshi Nakamoto seems to have stepped back from bitcoin, handing it over to others entirely.

I thought this wasn't satoshi but several of his accounts had been compromised and thus it was an imposter. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Article looks like bullshit based off nothing but speculation to me. There's nothing that offers proof or backs up their claims at all. Nobody knows what happened to satoshi, his coins, or even if he is one or more people.

I think he should have made something obvious like an address that consists of a string or something. That way people could be pretty sure he doesn't have control about the coins anymore. If those coins move, I bet they move into a black-hole address.

I think the most likely scenario is he's either dead or purposely lost access to them, but something tells me he wouldn't just waste the coins like this.
