Perhaps we should all switch back to mining Woodcoin on 3rd anniversary.

Was that you then bringing diff to 2539?  That's an insane jump.  What's going on?

l8nightminer pool and explorer added to OP.  Looking good nice work!!
103  Economy / Economics / Re: Money above all things, Yes or no ? on: September 28, 2017, 03:11:35 AM
I can see that people nowadays are busy searching on money and everything depends on money. People nowadays never go to church just because they would rather earn money rather than praise God. Others do not pay respect to elders  because they earn money for them or richer than them. Well for you, is money above all things ?
God won't pay our bills. God won't pay scholarship to our kids. God won't give us free food and water.
Your way of thinking is very wrong.
Try to live without money 1 month and then come back with the same question.

The things you mention are all free, that's why I claimed them all and and keep you out forcing you to pay for them.
Thanks!
104  Economy / Economics / Re: Why not just print dollars? on: September 25, 2017, 01:48:46 PM
actually you can print cash. can and must sometimes. It's OK if the country economy is growing and new printed money are supported with new goods and services. No inflation in that situation.

This is equivalent to saying "it's ok to rob people if they still have enough to eat".  Note that in the growth and improved efficiencies paradigm everyone would be GAINING purchasing power and value if the extra weren't being printed.  Instead it's just "no inflation".  Hardly OK if you ask me.

In other words, just because your funbuck is worth the same as it was last year doesn't mean you weren't robbed blind.  It could have been worth 10 times that, but instead that value was transferred to blowing people up, cutting down forests, and building dumbass mcmansions.

Hi dev .  Any new news in the coming month

Hi ducphuc01hp,

Work continues on version 0.15, android client, and a novel exchange bot including woodcoin (famex.trade).  Nothing really expected in the coming month that I know of, but I expect to be surprised at some point Smiley    Three year anniversary approaches as well as Phi Day when the reward drops below 1.618 per block.  Lets make these happen in style shall we?  Any suggestions?

Maybe you need read this threadcaptcha, this topic already discussed. And if you're face trouble with Google captcha just PM theymos, maybe he will fix it

Thanks, my apologies for repeat thread.

Give us an example of a better captcha/system that can't be abused by bots/bruteforcers, I'm sure theymos would love to hear it over you complaining.

It seems to me that any of the captcha services listed on captcha.org would be better than google's offering solely based on the fact that google's captcha immediately makes bitcointalk unusable by a billion people.  A quick search shows most people complain about reCaptcha because it is the slowest and most annoying, even if it isn't blocked.

SweetCaptcha,  Confident Captcha, areyouahuman.com,  nucaptcha, all get much more favorable reviews everywhere I looked.

1) Due to Google's predatory practices and established connection with scumbag "intelligence" agencies, google has been banned and blocked for over a billion internet residents.  Using google captcha makes this site unusable for a billion people.  Is that your goal?

2)  Google captcha is the slowest one available.  If your goal is solely to waste the time of those users who can still access the site, use google captcha.  How many thousands of hours have you wasted already with this useless nonsense?

3)  Google captcha is a good way to say "I hate my users and I'm a moron"

That'd be all.

109  Economy / Economics / Re: If You Hate Poverty, You Should Love Capitalism on: September 03, 2017, 06:59:23 AM
This is a pure sophism since capitalism will always define the concepts of poverty or wealth according to its own consumerist and destructive parameters, so that the individuals who consume the most are usually considered the richest, and not those who live happily despite their austere habits.

This is a decent youtube clip emphasizing positive aspects of capitalism.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_n6ivGgb9RY

More fuel for the discussion on capitalism fire.

The main point alleged here is: "world poverty has fallen by 80% since 1970".

They claim capitalism is the main driving force behind reduced levels of poverty over the past 5 or so decades, which in turn implies capitalism creates elevated living standards.

I also argue for capitalism, but you present here the worst argument ever.  Correlation is not causation.  Not only is it unclear that capitalism is meaningfully adopted (in a centralized fiat monetary system you hardly have market forces at work) but also the context of increased technology and infrastructure hugely important for poverty is .. .  simply ignored!!

112  Economy / Economics / Re: Money above all things, Yes or no ? on: September 03, 2017, 06:23:37 AM
Actually the opposite is true, money is BELOW all things.  BY DEFINITION!!

By definition it is that commodity which you are most willing to trade away, thus it is below all things as the least valuable thing to you.  If something else were less valuable to you, you would use that other thing for trade - and this would take over as your monetary or exchange commodity.

This is the essence of Gresham's law.

We also see this in the truism that "if you're in it for the money you're an amateur".  Indeed, if you are in something for the money it means you don't care about that thing.  Rather, you do the thing for an external goal - so you can fund another thing you care about.  \

Yes, it's true that many endeavors are made much easier with the proper tools - such as cash in hand.  But the nature of this relationship is that the endeavor in question is the desired goal.  The money is BELOW this goal, a tool or a means to an end.

Greetings Woodcutters and Log Stackers,

From Isengard, on the occasion of the Solar Eclipse of 2017.

Recent market moves have indicated a tiny bit of rational behavior, so it's a good time to repeat the design considerations that led us to a logarithmic release.  We will need to keep repeating these again and again; something worth saying is worth repeating.  Even to the choir Smiley

Why log?

The logarithmic release is a compromise between two competing forces which affect our choice of money supply curve.  These are RATIONAL market forces, and so (more on this later) we rarely see them play a dominant role in the short term.

1) FEES - Coins which require the user to at that moment pay a larger fee to make a transaction WILL LOSE MARKET SHARE to coins which are cheaper for a user to make a transaction.  We have seen this appear very slightly when BTC fees went way up and there was a small surge in other coins.

To put it simply:  rather than often pay high fees, one is tempted to purchase chunks of a lower-fee exchange commodity to use for some more regular payments.  In so much as people using the currency drives the price, we can see that the fee for the use also drives the price.  Once someone learns to use one public coin, moving to another is relatively easy.

2) INFLATION - Coins which inflate more rapidly WILL LOSE MARKET SHARE to coins with a fixed maximum supply and/or a lower rate of money supply inflation.  Hodlers don't want their hodlings to depreciate with time right?

So what's the problem you say, we need a coin with low fees and a low inflation!

The problem is: we need to pay the miners somehow, otherwise we have no coin.

LOG finds the middle ground between these two forces.  It features a continual reward, allowing TX fees to stay low as coinbase rewards continue to fund miners for a *very* long time.  Coinbase rewards decrease more slowly than any other release schedule. However it still keeps a cap on supply, meaning that your coins will not be debased.

Rational market forces will therefore favor the logarithmic release coin!!

HOWEVER

Markets are likely to remain mostly irrational in the short term.  After all, people are still trading their coins, goods, and services for fiat currency, issued in private in arbitrary amounts at no cost by some folks who appear to mostly be total morons.  While this persists, fiat issuers can pump any coin they feel like to any price - at no cost to themselves.  How could a rational market emerge under these conditions?  Things like the network effect, marketing, glossy websites, fancy logos, and general exuberance are also powerful forces in the markets in the short term.

Peace upon middle earth on the occasion of the eclipse.  Congrats on recent all time highs in our hash rate and keep up the good work all woodcutters and woodcoin contributors!!

Has anyone gotten solo mining working reliably?  I can start mining to the core wallet that was listed a page or two back, but it crashes after a couple minutes every single time I start.
solo mining is fine on windows.

Thanks Iyolyalya,
More specifically, the "Woodcore" wallet built on the bitcoin-core codebase doesn't work for solo mining at the moment (just as bitcoin-core doesn't work for solo mining).  For solo woodcutting I recommend:

In response to an article negative about bitcoin...

https://thecryptopapers.com/2017/07/14/morgan-stanley-bitcoin-a-poster-child-for-speculation/

It just ticks me off.

What bothers you?  It seems mostly on point and Gresham's law would agree that the more sound currency will be hoarded speculatively until that point that it is forced to come out.

To nitpick the article, it says "We are required, by law, to use this debt based system."  This is not exactly true, legal tender law only requires us to accept the funbuck in the case of a debtor who only wishes to pay us with the funbuck.  This doesn't mean we are forced to use them.
