101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Vircurex: Which of these coins would you like to see on Vircurex on: June 05, 2013, 06:05:08 PM
We put up DGC and WDC for a shareholder vote. Depending on the vote outcome we will decide whether or not to list the coins, check out https://cryptostocks.com for details.

If other coins are interested to get listed then we will purse such request only if it either the Vircurex management is convinced of the benefits or is made from a shareholder who has at least 1% of the VCX shares.

Obviously I have to promote out site: https://vircurex.com

If you want to buy BTC with USD, then it is as simple as buying a VouchX voucher (Aurumxchange.com) with their many funding options, instantly and free of charge redeem that voucher on our site, buy your Bitcoins and if you wish to do so, withdraw those coins anytime, no daily limits.

I will have to cancel this announcement, Aurumxchange is closing its doors for merchants and thus we wont be able to offer USD and Euro funding via Aurumxchange anymore.

Will be there any May dividends for VCX?

None of them. I think vircurex became a trash can for all cryptocurrencies. You remove some of them and make a better layout for the homepage

The objective of Vircurex was always to promote the alt-chains, and as such it was a natural development to list as many of them as feasible. Unfortunately the recent increase in number of alts has made it difficult to support every single one of them. Going forward we will focus more on what difference the alt makes to the community, only changing reward, speed, etc won't be sufficient. Further listings of coins will require some act of innovation, something new, something that the community is looking for.

Having said that, obviously we reserve the right to delist any currency as and when we see it in the interest of our shareholders.

What's the downside of adding more?  It just "looks bad?"  Might as well add them and let the market sort them out, then take down the losers.
Adding a currency does take quite a bit of work, technically adding a currency takes less than 30 Minutes, but then what needs to be considered:
 - risk of double spend attacks
 - hard forks
 - "tiny" temporary forks
 - lack of block chain explorers
 - extra efforts when delisting a "hardly ever traded currency",  we are still geting inquiries about SC which we delisted weeks ago
 - constant upgrades when the developers throw new versions on the market
 - cluttered screen that puts off the users
 - additional server resources  (running a 16GB PC at home costs hardly anything, but check out what running a 16GB server in a datacenter costs you)
 - risk of DDOS and other malicious activites because parts of the community are not happy with the choice of listing a coin
 - trojan horses and other backdoors that migth be build in
 - and so on and on and on.
106  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Vircurex: Which of these coins would you like to see on Vircurex on: May 24, 2013, 05:38:02 PM
We are receiving quite a number of inquiries to list additional coins. There are already 12 coins traded on Vircurex in addition to USD and Euro, thus we'ld like to better gauge the community's interest to list additional coins.

This vote is NOT a commitment to list the winner, it is purely a market research action. If the vote turns out a promising candidate we will most likely put it up for vote to the Vircurex shareholders.

107  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Vircurex to remove all non-BTC trading pairs on: May 24, 2013, 10:02:33 AM
Considering the mixed feedback, we will postpone the any-2-any trading for the time being and focus on the redesign on of the site layout.
108  Other / Archival / Re: closed on: May 24, 2013, 10:00:39 AM
Due to the mixed feedback on canceling the any-2-any trading, we will postpone this action until further notice.
109  Other / Archival / Re: closed on: May 22, 2013, 03:44:56 PM
Announcement on various changes we will be releasing in the coming days:

1. Phase out of Options
All existing options will remain to exist, although we will contact the options underwriter for unsold options if they would be willing to cancel their existing options (with refund of the fees).

Implementation timeframe: Now.

2. Remove any-2-any trading
Due to the lack of volume and the need to restructure our screen layout we have decided to remove all trading pairs that do not include BTC. I.e. we will be offering only trading to and from BTC in the future. All other trading pairs will be discontinued and all open order deleted.

Implementation timeframe: 25th or 26th May.

110  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Vircurex Functioning... any news on Cryptostocks? on: May 18, 2013, 09:27:22 AM
Dear all,  our apologies, although we had brought up the site last weekend and updated the DNS resolution.   What we had overlooked is that we had a very old DNS service still running (dnsever.com) and forgot to update that DNS resolution service. Hence some people were able to login while others not, even worse sometimes it worked, other times it did not.

We have now deleted this "old" DNS service and all should be well.

If you cant access the site via the domain name then feel free to access it via the IP address for the time being until the DNS service has propagated the latest changes.

https://198.211.105.133

111  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptostocks - BTC,DVC,LTC denominated Stock Exchange/Crowdfunding Platform on: May 18, 2013, 09:18:25 AM
you are absolutely right, the dnsever.com DNS service is an "ancient" one, totally forgot that one still existed. I deleted it hopefully the resolution now works.
112  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CryptoStocks is gone? on: May 18, 2013, 08:12:42 AM
The site is online, we do notice that some people's DNS entries are not resolving properly, we had an IP address change last weekend.

the site should be accessible via:

https://cryptostocks.com

the Domain should resolve to the IP 198.211.105.133

113  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptostocks - BTC,DVC,LTC denominated Stock Exchange/Crowdfunding Platform on: May 16, 2013, 01:45:16 PM
The site is up and running but it looks like not everyone is resolving the domain name properly.  We had to change the IP address last weekend. Our new IP address is 198.211.105.133.  If you can't access it then either
 - your DNS provider is not synched
 - you might have mapped the old IP in your hosts file
114  Other / Archival / Re: closed on: May 13, 2013, 03:34:39 PM
The recent events over the weekend have generated a massive amount of customer inquiries. We are processing all of them, one by one but the amount of emails will take some time to process. We'ld like to emphasize that all "missing" or "lost" transactions will of course be credited back.
115  Other / Archival / Re: closed on: May 11, 2013, 05:54:08 PM
Service is back online. Please read the announcements.
116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PPC Not loading the chain on: May 11, 2013, 03:54:29 PM
Some of PPC nodes currently online:

85.248.69.189
66.45.250.234
98.198.182.212
124.187.45.251
194.100.58.206
108.35.94.226
122.174.225.90

awesome, that did the trick.
117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / PPC Not loading the chain on: May 11, 2013, 12:57:32 PM
I have a newly setup server, copie the PPCoind over from another server and started it.  1 our later, still 0 connections and 0 blocks downloaded.  Any ideas?

I also compiled it locally on the new server, same result. I add addnode and pointed it to the old server still running, also to no avail.

Why is the ppcoind not connecting?
118  Other / Archival / Re: closed on: May 11, 2013, 05:33:42 AM
Update:

 - new set of servers have been deployed
 - application has been installed
 - database is setup

We are now in the process of downloading the block chains of the 13 coins we support, this might take some time. Thus after some more testing we will activate trading but deposits and withdrawals will not be possible until the blockchains have been fully downloaded.

If all goes well we should be completed with all activities by last 18:00 GMT

As for the resetting of the wallet addresses. This is absolutely necessary. Should you have existing funds with other service providers which do not allow you to change the deposit address then please contact us, we will work out a onetime transfer process for you.
119  Other / Archival / Re: closed on: May 10, 2013, 08:36:39 PM
After investigating the security breach we have to come to the conclusion that the attacker has been able to get root access to the systems.

Therefore we need to assume that the wallets might have been copied, thus DO NOT deposit funds. Everyone will be getting a new set of addresses.

Next course of action:
 - we will setup a complete set of servers
 - setup a fresh set of wallets for the coins
 - recover the funds from our cold wallets to ensure ongoing service.

If all goes well the system should be up and running in less than 24 hours.
120  Other / Archival / Re: closed on: May 10, 2013, 05:45:58 PM
Please do not further deposit any coins with to Vircurex or Cryptostocks. At this point in time we need to assume a compromise of the wallet.

We will update this post once we have finished our investigation.

PS: As to the coins: All fiat currency accounts are accounted for, the vast majority of the coins are stored in cold wallets and thus are safe.
