I'm thinking of buying around 5 BTC and I'm wondering what the best exchange would be to buy them at. Previously I would have just gone to MtGox by default, but now with all the bad press they're getting I'm thinking of going else where. I like the looks of Bitstamp since it looks fairly low cost and easy to use. Has anyone used it before? Any good / bad things to say about them? Suggestions for alternate exchanges?

BitStamp for USD purchase. For trading, go with BTC-E.

I think the obvious choice is Mtgox given that it is the largest with highest liquidity.

The before mentioned BTC-E is probabably one of the best choices.

Obviously I have to promote out site: https://vircurex.comIf you want to buy BTC with USD, then it is as simple as buying a VouchX voucher (Aurumxchange.com) with their many funding options, instantly and free of charge redeem that voucher on our site, buy your Bitcoins and if you wish to do so, withdraw those coins anytime, no daily limits.

I will have to cancel this announcement, Aurumxchange is closing its doors for merchants and thus we wont be able to offer USD and Euro funding via Aurumxchange anymore.

I think for Europeans, Bitstamp is the best exchanger. I use their site often and never had any complaint. Besides BTC they also do Ripples.

I like coinbase and campbx. I would probably avoid Mtgox; seems everything headed downhill for them?
