101  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Does auto trading bot make good profit ? on: June 16, 2016, 11:04:32 PM
I did a test with an automated trading bot a while back and even with highly customizable options, I was never able to "dial it in" where it would trade profitably, consistently.  It'd make a little here and there then turn around and make 10 losing trades in a row for no apparent reason.  The cons definitely outweighed the pro of being lazy and overall my test ended in the red.

It's possible for a good trading bot to be profitable over time, but it isn't easy and most likely requires some degree of babysitting in order to ensure the code used continues to be profitable with more trades than not.

In my case it was obvious that some settings worked some of the time and some worked others... sometimes nothing worked.  The trick would be figuring out what works and when and then adjusting the trade options on the fly.

MHO - Don't use a bot, you'll do better learning the what and when and trading yourself.

I agree.  Trade without a bot for a long time to understand all of the moving parts.
Then you can better understand if a bot is good and what it is doing well or poorly.

And if you get adventurous you can develop your own and then you will have 100% control over what it does
102  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Halving is a profitable??? on: June 15, 2016, 07:22:32 PM
Since the large mining companies will make less money if the halving happens and the BTC prices stays the same, I think the current rise we are seeing is somewhat related to them manipulating the price.
It also benefits all people holding BTC as we see our value goes up.  Grin
I don't think we have seen this top of the current rise, If had to guess I would say somewhere in the $700-$800 range which I think is where the mining companies would consider a minimum after the halving.
Let's all hope it goes higher!!!
103  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: newbie question - buy/sell diff on: June 15, 2016, 03:23:05 PM
The fee is the same in all cases - 2%. It doesn't make up the difference between some coins. Coin A buy is .000035, sell is .000033; Coin B buy is .0000035, sell is .000012

I can see that this may be because Coin B is almost dead - supply and demand. I'm just trying to learn.

On Yobit, most fees are 0.2%, not 2%, but they do set them by currency.  Some exchanges have the same fees across all currencies.

I agree a large spread could indicate a dead coin or at least dead on that exchange.  Other exchanges the spread might be small with lots of volume.
And if the coin isn't currently dead, a large spread will certainly not help, since it means orders are not getting satisfied, which means volume will be low.

https://coinmarketcap.com is a good site to get an idea as to where a coin is being traded.

105  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: newbie question - buy/sell diff on: June 15, 2016, 01:40:53 PM
stupid question, probably. On YoBit, sometimes there is a small difference between the 'buy' and the 'sell' price, and sometimes there is a huge diff between them.

I don't understand what drives the difference between the 'buy' and the 'sell' price.  I can see the sell orders, and when one of them is used up, the price increases a little bit. Why don't the buy orders match? ie if the buy price goes up by 2 sats, why doesn't the sell price goes up 2 sats?

trading for dummies 101?

A part of that difference is a fee that the exchange platform gets.

In every currency market there is a difference between "buy" and "sell" price.

Usually the "Sell" price is higher because of that fee.

I am pretty sure the fee is not factored into the price.
It gets deducted from the amount you are willing to trade, so if you commit .01 BTC to a trade and the fee is .2%, then you actually buy .00998 worth.
Now that is not to say when people set their buy or sell price they do not consider the fee and set a slightly different price.
I agree with the premise of the comment and that is "Pay attention to the fees"

How can I get paid out in VRC instead of BTC? It's not really clear on the website as it says a BTC address is mandatory but also mentions that you can be paid out in POS coins, one of which is VRC.

Thanks

From the pools home page I included the info below and be aware if you set your payout to VRC you have to wait until VRC is mined by the pool, which I also see is grayed out due to no more POW blocks so there will be no more VRC mined by the pool.  So do not select it.

Non-BTC payouts depend on that coin being mined as your BTC balance is traded internally by our system to your currency of choice. If we have not or are not mining that currency your payouts will be delayed until the pool has mined the blocks for you to get paid. If you notice in the pools status that the currency is red, it means there is not sufficient amount of the currency to pay miner(s). It's recommended to use BTC as any other coin could be removed at anytime and payouts will not occur.

Please always set your currency in your password field: c=<SYMBOL>

I was wrong, see below, sorry.   Sad

One comment on Cloud Mining that I saw mentioned early in this thread.
I agree that a vast majority of "Give us your money and make x% per day" offers are nothing but scams, more of which seem to be popping up recently, I have been able to make profit by buying hashing power and pointing it at mining pools.  But be aware the margins can be very small and it takes some effort to make anything.
108  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: newbie question - buy/sell diff on: June 15, 2016, 04:21:51 AM
This is not a simple question.

I tend to find, This is about demand and volume.

In the very liquid markets like BTC->LTC the buy(bid) and sell(ask) prices are very close and orders tend to get satisfied quickly.
When you have a fringe altcoin, lets say BTC->CUBE, that has little volume and the difference between bid and ask, Spread, tends to be higher.

I think demand has more to do with it because bid and ask are set by people so it is what they are willing to trade for.
If you really want something you will pay more and potentially meet someone asking price.

Not really a good/complete answer but it is a start.

109  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Does auto trading bot make good profit ? on: June 15, 2016, 03:59:45 AM
Most of the comments are about buying or using someone else's bot.
And I agree that you have to be very careful with that approach.

Discipline is the key to being successful in any investment strategy.
Develop a strategy, execute the strategy, evaluate the results, adjust the strategy, and begin again.

When developing strategies I end up creating a spreadsheet, Excel or Google Doc, and test in that.
If things go well then I build a bot to do the analysis part of the strategy and trade on what it says, checking it as I go.
If that goes well I modify the bot to do the trading itself.

So I like bots alot, but only the one's I create.

I have used free bots to get ideas for strategies but I have never run one with actual coin.

111  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Does auto trading bot make good profit ? on: June 14, 2016, 03:27:31 AM

You are right about the second line, bots are maybe acting fast but you can not rely n them because they can not think like yourself.
I once tried it out and it did a wrong investment that I did not like at all...

Yes, you should not run a bot unless you know, and I mean really know, what it is going to do.
I like to manual trade a strategy for a while before automating it, then I really know.

112  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Does auto trading bot make good profit ? on: June 14, 2016, 01:26:57 AM
No do not try this, as no one knows that what will be the strategy of bitcoin at which time, so how a bot will do a trade for you in this situation, try to give some time to your business/trade in that you will be able to earn a good amount of bitcoins, as trading is the more attractive and beneficial business of the world.

Indeed you should not try this because the fact is that trading will never be good with a bot, a bot can really fuck it up in my eyes.

I like bots because they can react faster to market conditions and take advantage of short term situations.
To each his own I suppose.

However I fully agree...A bad bot, with bad instructions, with volatile markets can suck you dry in no time.
Be careful and start slow
113  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: HOW MUCH YOU EARN/LOSE FROM TRADING on: June 13, 2016, 05:59:35 PM
i already lost 0.03 at trading and profit 0.005 still trading even its maybe not for me Undecided
Same here. I tried forex and now BTC and lost in both. I lost over $100 in forex and now $35 in BTC. I guess I am not able to make a proper decision as to when it's the right time to buy or sell coins and hence end up losing. Those who are experienced may have a better knowledge.

Discipline is the key to being successful.
Develop a strategy, execute the strategy, evaluate the results, adjust the strategy, and begin again.

When developing strategies I end up creating a spreadsheet, Excel or Google Doc, and test trading in that.
That helps me define the strategy and understand the mechanics, though it is a PITA.

I can say, of the strategies I test, I only use 25% and of those only 25% make anything.

JaredKaragen I'm going to try your conf file as soon as possible. Thx  for that.

But, do you know, or does anyone know how I can monitor any app running ccminer in a separate window that looks just like you opened up ccminer to mine a coin with standard cmd?  Thx

I believe the start command does that if you don't specify /MIN.

/Min only starts the window in a minimized state, It should not effect the contents of window itself.
115  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: HOW MUCH YOU EARN/LOSE FROM TRADING on: June 13, 2016, 02:01:33 PM
Unfortunately for you anyone who makes alot will probably not want to show themselves or tell you how they do it.
116  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Does auto trading bot make good profit ? on: June 13, 2016, 01:55:13 PM
If you use a bot, it needs to be very flexible because the situation changes frequently.
And as has been said if the bots code is not good then you will probably loose money.

I agree, even if you plan to use a bot you should do manual trades until you understand what the bot should be doing.
That way you can protect yourself by knowing how the bot is doing.

Whatever bot you get...be prepared to dive in, understand how it works and be comfortable enough to make changes to it.

118  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][POOL] Mining Pool Hub - Auto profit switching / Auto exchange to alt coins on: June 12, 2016, 04:29:02 AM
Now you can set starting difficulty value by typing like "d=0.01" at worker's password.

This would help big hash miners to catch up to its own hardware limit faster than ever.

1. Run your miner program and check your difficulty value.
Keep in mind that difficulty value must be stabilized.
We recommend you to get difficulty value at least after 10 minutes of mining.

2. Set this difficulty value to worker's password as "d=XXXX"
   ex) d=0.0312
Do not write this value to miningpoolhub's worker page, just write it at miner configuration file.

3. Now run your miner program again.
You will see your miner running at the difficulty value you typed.

4. Difficulty value can go up and down again. It's not a bug.
d=XXX just gives us hint at start and it doesn't enforce diff value to be fixed.

Far wrong diff value may corrected automatically, but you'd better write optimized value.

Big hash miners who are using rentals, multi-algo, ASIC would get better result with difficulty hint.

I think I found my answer.
I this still valid? (I am testing it now)

I don't use this method but I looked at the script to see how it works. I believe it is more complicated than necessary.

You have a two stage loop that appears to be used to support two executables. Each miner has a different taskname
so you had to handle them seperately hence the two stage loop. That algorithm doesn't scale well if you need more
diffrerent miners for different algos.

I suggest you rename all the executables with the same name but in different directories. That way when you start the
miners you specify the path to the miner for a given algo but when it's time to monitor the tasks they all have the same
name.

As long as the taskname is the same as the executable this should work.

Here's a snippet of code to illustrate:

Code:
set CCMINER=ccminer.exe
set CCMINER_DEFAULT=\path\to\default\%CCMINER%
set CCMINER_EVO=\path\to\evo\%CCMINER%
...
start "SIB" /min %CCMINER_DEFAULT% -r 0 -a sib -i 15 -o %POOL%:5033 -u %ADDY% -p %PASS%
start "X11EVO" /min %CCMINER_EVO% -r 0 -a x11evo -o %POOL%:3553 -u %ADDY% -p c=BTC,neoscrypt=0.378,x14=7.0,x15=5.6,x17=5.2,nist5=8.0,x11evo=8.2,blake2s=1.2,skein=293.0,sib=1.1,c11=8.8,stats
echo Waiting for %CCMINER% to close...
:wait1
FOR /F %%x IN ('tasklist /NH /FI "IMAGENAME eq %CCMINER%"')  goto wait1
goto start

Do the miners allow their executable to be renamed?
