Stay focused ngzhang - unlike your competitors.

Well, if you're a little suicidal, you could try Dank's Hookah Bar.

Very interesting link, thanks.

It sounds like the operators weren't ready to scale up their pool operation, that's the only reason I can think of for why it'd be regularly unavailable. Incidentally google-updaete.com is now an NXDOMAIN.

Scaling a mining pool isn't easy, let alone to millions of nodes. They may have found the amount of effort it took to keep the pool running and performant made it not worth doing. Especially given the complexity of cashing out large quantities of coins.

Interestingly, they only make use of the CPU and not the GPU, as the report states. That is a huge loss of potential over a million computers. I was actually wondering why the hackers wouldn't implement a system whereby the GPU would be used an arbitrary number of hours per day (one, two, three)...
104  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Re: Butterfly Labs CEO 25 Million USD Mail Fraud — A Concise Summary of Evidence on: September 23, 2012, 03:49:17 AM
...

You're right, when I see a company that's taken millions of dollars in pre-orders for a product whilst providing incredibly little information on that product, and the CEO turns out to have a conviction for a 25 million dollar wire fraud that involved taking payment up front for products that weren't legit, and then someone representing the company goes on a pissy little rant about how "entitled" the customers who've given them millions of dollars are, I think; "Shit, those people are so crazy and entitled, they should trust the convicted multi-million dollar fraudster and his company despite their total lack of transparency".

If it's anything, I was considering ordering an SC single, a bASIC and an Avalon.
Now I'm ordering 2 bASIC's and an Avalon.

It really says something about the bitcoin community when China has the most transparent hardware companies

It says less about the bitcoin community than it says about business practices in these countries.

On yet another note, don't forget about taxes. On top of the 1300 dollars I will have to pay another 19% on 1359 dollars because customs adds shipping to the overall price to be taxed. So the actual price for ordering one unit from Germany will be about 1617,21 USD.

I am actually in Beijing and will be returning to Belgium early January. If you want to save on shipping costs [pm me].

I have a feeling that will be a continuous theme with BFL: unwarranted paranoia that all of their competitors are trying to copy them, and revealing even the slightest technical detail would ruin their business.

That'd be nice, a proper competitor to stir things up. Do we have a contender?
107  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Re: Butterfly Labs CEO 25 Million USD Mail Fraud — A Concise Summary of Evidence on: September 22, 2012, 04:15:51 AM
God damn, I love you idiots sometimes.  You give me hope that if I ever have a child and they are so retarded as to be a veritable vegetable, I can still point at the cute little veggie and say "Well, at least your smarter than most of the people on Bitcointalk."  And it will give me comfort.

Josh. Have you ever heard of PR management? Even if this is not your official BFL account, you still do represent that company regardless of what profile you're posting from...  Embarrassed

BUMP. Just finished reading this.

The ZeroAccess botnet could be the third largest mining pool in terms of total hash rate. (page 44)

Bump! Links over there are not working. http://freenation.org/a/f63k1.html

I like the advert more than the eventual 'results' of the initiative (see John Kingman's report)  Undecided

I think BFL is taking awfully long in responding to this mess.
113  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: President of BFL is a photographer by trade ? on: September 20, 2012, 10:25:05 AM
FYI, Chris Vleisides the photographer says on his LinkedIn page that he's been a commercial photographer since the early 1970's - Sonny Vleisides the convicted felon was born in 1971. Unlikely to be the same guy. Unfortunate coincidence.

However, some of the proceeds of the scam were apparently sent to Connie and Gabriel Vleisides of KC, MO on or about 7/26/2003.

There's also a Gregory Vleisides in the KC area who's an attorney and not apparently connected to Sonny's scam.

FYI, we're not arguing that they're the same. Some evidence (not convincingly much) indicates that they are related.

Ik denk dat Progresso daar de rates voor één bitcoin heeft gerekend.

Voor 10 bitcoins is er ongeveer een 6% verschil tussen de twee diensten.

Although this may be cause for concern to some, the fact is that we're a robust company SCAM with 22 employees.  One of them has a colorful background in offshore libertarianism IS A CONVICTED EX CONMAN.  If I thought there was even the possibility of something unsavory going on within BFL, you can rest assured I would a) not be part of it and b) would let everyone know it I AM A SHILL, I AM A SHILL, I AM A SHILL.

The reality is, we are legitimate WE HIDE ALL INFORMATION, ABUSE COMPETITION AND CUSTOMERS AND BLATANTLY LIE AND EVEN DEFEND OUR LIES., we have released revolutionary products RECYCLED PARTS SOLD AS NEW and we are going to release more revolutionary products PRE-ORDERS.  I was made aware of this back story prior to my employment SHILLING and I evaluated it and concluded that it was immaterial to the business at hand and thus joined BFL THIS IS A CON I WANT TO BE A PART OF.  There was nothing hidden from me  and Sonny has always answered questions and been completely open about his past, but I think we can all agree that it's not something you just announce to the world IF YOU WANT TO RUN ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL CON.

Well Inaba, do you have team that helps you shovel the truck load of bullshit you deliver ?

Too good not to lol.

Legit Level based on current material: meh.

Wait, are you implying that there might be something strange about a company that requires preorders to be paid in full, will not issue any refunds until a mythical shipping date, does not have a real adress, has both company and domain registration done through proxy registrars and has a phone # assigned to a single mobile phone?

Guess so. Still, the fact that they have delivar'd other products in the past bugs me.

[recap]

1. Chris Vleisides registers a company called BF Labs Inc. in Wyoming (2011).

2. Chris Vleisides is related to Sonny Chris Vleisides (how, exactly?)
http://www.whitepages.com/name/Gabriel-C-Vleisides/Kansas-City-MO/5s3qaqb (not a very good source... needs something more legit)

3. Sonny C. Vleisides was convicted for an elaborate multi-million scam in 2007.

Notes:
...claims "BF Labs Inc." is in the healthcare industry...
- People on this forum claim they've heard the president of BFL is called Sonny, or there's an employee with that name.
- Both Vleisideses' are linked to Kansas City.
- The official Butterfly Labs was also established in 2011.
