101  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CoinMap - Map showing places where Bitcoin is accepted on: August 12, 2014, 04:51:00 PM
Editing failed - make sure JOSM or Merkaartor is loaded and the remote control option is enabled

Yes, I moved. I guess it would be easier for me to just delete my old node and copy and paste all the information from it onto my new node location?
JOSM is a java program you download to your computer(or run directly). You can get it here http://josm.openstreetmap.de/ though your solution also works Smiley
102  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CoinMap - Map showing places where Bitcoin is accepted on: August 11, 2014, 10:29:22 AM
Has it not worked in JOSM? I just tested and put in the coordinates. Now it shows your business is on the Marlborough Avenue. Are you sure that is your business location? Smiley

I've just added payment:offline:bitcoin=no.

I don't like very much the online/offline subtag: probably we should choose a better one (actually all bitcoin transactions are online, if they are registered into the blockchain).
Ok, if you want the tags can be added to http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Bitcoin
emacsen has also proposed at the talk page that we can discuss the tags as part of the OSM community at the tagging Mailing list.

Here's from November 2013("Bitcoin and Online shops") https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/tagging/2013-November/date.html
January 2014("Bitcoin and Online shops") https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/tagging/2014-January/date.html
June 2014("Bitcoin ATM (amenity=atm | currency:XBT=yes)") https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/tagging/2014-June/date.html

Not anything more recent, but I've now added some tags now to http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Bitcoin
103  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CoinMap - Map showing places where Bitcoin is accepted on: August 11, 2014, 06:45:22 AM
I've fixed the tag that said that Bitcoin is not accepted to Bitcoin is accepted, because it simply is. The edits before were probably in good faith and I put a forum post in the Swedish language at the Swedish osm forum, linking to it from my edit of the node. Here is the new edit http://www.openstreetmap.org/node/1752418067
I let the other tag that they added be there. It is payment:online:bitcoin=yes and I think it means that you can pay online at their site but not at the cash registers with Bitcoin.
104  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CoinMap - Map showing places where Bitcoin is accepted on: August 10, 2014, 07:08:41 PM
payment:bitcoin=yes is a de facto tag for businesses accepting Bitcoin. They had an issue on how and in what way Bitcoin is accepted. So I think they could come up with a new tag for that.

If the local OSM community suggested it like that, I think you should honour their opinion.
I'm in a discussion with them right now. We are discussing this. It is not set in stone. One of them says they are agreeing with what you say. Though he/she didn't make clear on exactly what so I have asked for citations. Still waiting for an answer. Asked 4 minutes ago.(now the time is 21.10 here)

I do not know if they are as interested as they say they are. I would receive much more input if they were genuinely interested I believe. I mean somebody invented their own tag and removed the de facto tag. In good faith they tried to help but instead deleted data.
105  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CoinMap - Map showing places where Bitcoin is accepted on: August 10, 2014, 06:24:02 PM
Webhallen is a Swedish electronics/computer/gaming company that accepts Bitcoin, but not at the cash registers.(purchase online at their site, then get the goods at any of their store locations)

In the Swedish OpenStreetMap community at #OSM.se oftc.net we talk about how to tag a business like Webhallen who accepts the payment only online and not at the cash registers. Webhallen uses BitPay. Some of the osm members want to use a new tag payment:online:bitcoin=yes to tell the world that purchases can be done online, but not at the cash registers.

The time to make a purchase took me 1 and a half hour. 1 hour for BitPay to confirm for Webhallen that I paid my Bitcoins and half an hour for their storage system to calculate if they had the product I wanted.
Any ideas? Should I stick with payment:bitcoin=yes or do we start using this new tag payment:online:bitcoin=yes?

107  Local / Skandinavisk / Re: Sweets of Sweden - Liljeholmstorgets galleria, Stockholm on: August 09, 2014, 04:53:12 PM

Cheesy
108  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Anita Sarkeesian - Feminist Frequency - Donating in Bitcoin on: August 07, 2014, 04:24:03 PM
Anybody else seen Anita Sarkeesian's work in Feminist Frequency and liked it? (or disliked it)
109  Local / Skandinavisk / Re: Sweets of Sweden - Liljeholmstorgets galleria, Stockholm on: August 05, 2014, 08:55:56 AM

110  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Anita Sarkeesian - Feminist Frequency - Donating in Bitcoin on: August 05, 2014, 08:48:08 AM
This thread has escalated quickly!   Tongue

But in all seriousness, I see no need to donate my money whatsoever  Lips sealed
It's not about donating your money, but if you see a need, or a wish to be interested in the project. If you think it is worthwhile or just a wasted effort. Like do you agree like CoinMode that Anita is evil, or you think she is good, or maybe you are neutral about this or don't care?

Obviously lots of people have donated lots in kickstarter(the money donations escalated after the hate campaign she received). Kickstarter is not a Bitcoin friendly platform, but I wanted to see if there's an interest from this community, except me in donating to Anita Sarkeesian or her Feminist Frequency project. There are some people who think she has made everything up or they don't care to listen to her arguments because they already disagreed with one and it was too much for them.

Like
A "I think this project is worthwhile but I wouldn't like the project to accept Bitcoin because I think there are other projects much more worth my attention"
B "I think she has made the industry a worse place. I'm glad she does not accept Bitcoin and I hope she never does"
C "I don't care" but then why did you post in the thread?
111  Local / Skandinavisk / Re: Sweets of Sweden - Liljeholmstorgets galleria, Stockholm on: August 04, 2014, 01:37:26 PM

Wink
112  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Anita Sarkeesian - Feminist Frequency - Donating in Bitcoin on: August 04, 2014, 11:18:17 AM
You seem to have fallen for the neo-liberal fallacy, in that, because there exist 50% women in the population, that all jobs, hobbies, and sports should consist of 50% women. By your logic, 50% of Alaskan crab fishing should be female, 50% of bodybuilders should be female, and 50% of preschool teachers should be male. What you fail to understand is that men and women are measurably different. Men are physically stronger, taller, and cannot give birth. There are a multitude of factors that go into the gender imbalance throughout all jobs, hobbies, and sports. If you cannot acknowledge basic reality, then please don't go around spreading your illogical nonsense.
It is obvious you are speaking out of rage and not reason.

Enligt deras Facebook-sida <snip>
https://www.facebook.com/sweetsofsweden

Every human being takes part in how it is treated by other human beings.
turvarya, are you saying that if the same harassment happened to a woman in a new meeting that all men should stay silent, totally neutral and do nothing?

Online discussion of sexism or misogyny quickly results in disproportionate displays of sexism and misogyny

This thread is about Arianna Simpson's experience at a Bitcoin meetup.
117  Bitcoin / Project Development / Anita Sarkeesian - Feminist Frequency - Donating in Bitcoin on: July 28, 2014, 10:28:24 AM
I would like to be able to donate in Bitcoin to Anita Sarkeesian or one of her projects that's called Feminist Frequency(which succeeded splendingly on kickstarter.com) which she is very famous for. Feminist Frequency is currently only accepting PayPay which is a shame.
Through Feminist Frequency she is making an analysis of gender stereotypes in video games. Today there's hardly a person who doesn't know about her which is a person who also cares about the internet in a genuine sort of way. Her videos are free to download on youtube and she has only done the work through donations.

To my knowledge she has never received money in any way through Bitcoin, and finding references on Bitcoin and Anita Sarkeesian has ended up on Bitcoin talk on a thread with a topic not even about her nor about Feminist Frequency or any other of her projects.

This thread is dedicated to if it's possible to give donations to Feminist Frequency to support the cause, what the community here feels about it, if it's just 'ok', indifference or if it would be great. Maybe there will be much interest or little.
The world needs a little more love and Bitcoin certainly needs it too. I may ask her if she would like to start accepting it, maybe or maybe not depending on how the thread goes what the community thinks of her work.

Flattr has written a few things about Anita(before they started accepting Bitcoin 5 months afterwards) in light of "Gender, Technology, Diversity and Creativity" http://blog.flattr.net/2013/02/gender-technology-diversity-and-creativity/ writing about her in a very positive light.

------------------------
I have a hard time finding any arguments backed by sources. Anita Sarkeesian, among others, has/have transcripts of what she says in her videos. If you wanna back your argumentation and not just spam with stuff you think she might have said, then quote stuff she has said in the transcripts(example transcript) of a specific video.

UPDATE: I had a summary here, but after seeing the evolution of the thread I think we are on a more creative and productive path as the first pages may be an indication of how to approach the subject. But...
If you came here to spread hate and misinformation you are not welcome.

UPDATE 2: This new summary is on the progress of whether Feminist Frequency will accept Bitcoin as a donation option:
Page1-Page7 From constructive, neutral and hostile(including Ad Hominems) interaction with the Bitcoin community.

Page8 post #160 with a tweet asking @femfreq if she knows how Bitcoin works and if she likes Cryptography.
Page9 post #168 with a tweet to @femfreq about How Bitcoin Works, Cryptographic checksums(she has talked about Bittorrent before), briefly mentioning Digital Signatures and Public-key Cryptography.

Page11 post #217 generally about Women in Bitcoin. Transcript of "Q&A with Andreas Antonopoulos - Bitcoin in 2015 and beyond" but only translated the part related to Women and Bitcoin.

Flattr has stopped accepting Bitcoin so we can no longer fill our accounts using Bitcoin. Sad

I messaged Flattr support the following message:
Quote

Approximate translation to English:
There are 15 payment alternatives to add money at https://flattr.com/payments but I miss the alternative for Bitcoin.
http://blog.flattr.net/2013/07/adding-bitcoin-support/
Is the testperiod over and have you decided to no longer accept Bitcoin?

And got the following reply:
Quote
Linus Olsson at 2014-07-26 12:31

Hi

Regards Linus

Approximate translation to English:
Hi

We had to close it down because it did not at all work like it should have done Sad

Regards Linus

Has anybody received a message from them where they say that they are working on it, to start accepting Bitcoin again?
