I think OP wants to know when bitcoin will replace USD as the international means of exchange.

Top banks of the world are coming up with their own coin, they will rather use their coin as an international means of exchange than use bitcoin.

Transaction fees is another setback that should be looked into, you don't pay to spend fiat but you have to pay to spend bitcoins.

Mycelium is going to have a large influx of new users with the introduction of this feature.

I suppose the next step would be to issue debit cards to its users so they can easily switch between crypto and fiat.

Now that Central banks are accepting blockchain, it's just a matter of time before they replace fiat with crypto altogether!

The idea would be better off as an external service, not part of the bitcoin core.

And we have done that. We are gradually moving from a centralized monetary system into a decentralized one.

It will take a while for other sectors to adopt blockchain fully. It's hard getting accepted in the financial world as it is now.

We all know that the profitability of bitcoin mining has reduced, so what do you do to maintain operating costs if you don't sell some of the coins you mine?

In that case, coinbase seems to be a better option. I checked their website and they have rates as low as 1% to 3.75%. It's the lowest I have seen so far.

Of course, it is okay to earn and hold bitcoins till the price goes higher, then you can sell.

I don't see any reason why they would in the first instance; the price of bitcoin has gone up in recent times.
