@smartgerman Not sure what your source was or where you got the "stored bitcoin only for 10 days" from but guess you have read it somewhere and copy pasted that from that article. Problem is that that article was most likely copy/pasted too and the author never bothered to contact the subjects either so chances of errors are very real. Because of this, it is always a good idea to double check your facts with the persons involved before publishing as it reduces errors and improves the quality of the article in question.
I have been using my implants for cryptocurrency payments since November 2014 non-stop and because the Mycelium Bitcoin wallet is now compatible (I used a special dev version before), there is really no need to fear security problems. Scanning range from the chips is very small because of the tiny antenna and body tissue surrounding it, making remote scanning from a distance practically impossible too.
It is also relatively easy to break the key in pieces using Shamir's Shared Secret or by using a standard multi-signature addresses to split the keys over several implants / subjects making it even harder to steal your coins.
You can also protect your keys with standard BIP38 encryption so that you will need a password for accessing your crypto dough, in that case Mycelium will prompt you to enter a password after scanning your implant.
The team at Mycelium was very willing to modify the Mycelium wallet so that it allows for an NFC Bitcoin URI with a BIP38 encrypted key for this specific purpose. The security is pretty tough now and no longer easy to break as it was the case with the 40-bit security typically offered by NFC chips themselves. Mycelium is in my opinion still one of the best mobile wallets out there.
The title of this article is incorrect IMO and should have been "Sub-dermal chip for cryptographic keys available everywhere since 2014" instead.
My suggestion to everyone is to stop reading about the implants and just download the mycelium app while you visit your local bodymod artist for an NTAG216 implant upgrade and you'll be able to try it yourself, you will not regret!
