101  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official Avalon Technical Support Thread on: March 24, 2013, 04:49:12 PM
I am getting ready to set up multiple units.  I am having issues with the power in that room now so I need some new lines run anyway.  My question is should I get 220V lines run?  I thought I saw somewhere someone was doing that but I can't find it.  I assume it is just a matter of switching the power supply from 110V to 220V and getting cords?

As for connecting to the Internet I assume the optimal is to run Ethernet from my gateway and set up a switch near the machines.  I don't want to worry about the wireless router.

I saw the post on stacking.  I assume they sit on their side.  Is it OK to put them directly on the floor or should they be elevated?

thanks

you dont need 220v - that is for instance a clothes dryer

these things wouldent even plug into a 220v plug.

I stand mine up like a computer tower - im a little weary about stacking them with the metal on metal contact and electricity and all that, but its possible im just paranoid.

I dont know how many units you are going to be setting up but the wifi works just fine and will allow you to a lot more freedom where you set them up, I don't see any benefit to using cat5e cables and a network switch/hub

Hello

I have a couple of questions:

What is the general consensus about setting your own minimum difficulty? What are the benefits of that?
in what scenarios would this be ideal?

Also Just out of curiosity what is more widely used PPS or PPLNS?

thank you for your time to answer my questions.

One of my TP-Link routers is dead, is there anything I can or do I need to buy a new TP-Link router?

Usually reset WR703N could save it. You could try it in this way:

1, Power off Avalon.

2, Press reset button of WR703N and hold on it.

3, Power on Avalon.

4, After 5 seconds release that reset button.

If you are lucky enough your WR703N will be alive again Smiley

Note: No guarantee this will work for your WR703N.

have you tried this yet?

Naaa the TP-Link is completely dead - I went to plug in the lan cable and the connector broke right off

106  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: should i spend money for VGA right now on: March 22, 2013, 05:23:27 AM
now would be a horrible time to invest in GPU.

If you want to actually gain on your investment I recommend you either BUY BITCOINS!!!!!

which everyone is kicking themselves for not doing so about a month ago

Or if you do not want to want for ASIC vendors - go buy a FPGA miner

FPGA mining is still very profitable at this current value - even with the current difficulty.

I am happy to report I have received two DHL tracking numbers

they are for only a partial amount of my order - but its better than nothing, and yufi stated my entire order has shipped he just does not have tracking numbers for them yet

I am guessing they are using some kind of courier service or perhaps this has something to do with customs, everyone seems to be getting tracking numbers from different carriers and it appears yufi does not receive tracking until after its been shipped a day or so.

Just speculation based on my experience

Looks like one of the packages left hong kong today and the other one has not been picked up yet

cant wait to plug them in and show them off Tongue

these guy are legit - it just takes time to build and ship all these units.

I called DHL again today and they said their system for looking up packages without tracking numbers was down today.

BitSynCom, can you please confirm that my order has shipped?  Given the order number relative to others that have been shipped, it should have already been shipped, but because the issue with the canceled status was never resolved, it is reasonable to assume there is a possibility that nothing has been sent.

I wouldn't be hassling you about tracking if the order was displayed correctly in the store, in which case I would be reasonable to just wait for it to arrive.

Bitsyncom, any update on this issue?  You said you would be able to address it when you returned to NYC.

Ticket #25, created 1 month ago, remains untouched.

are you a batch 1 customer?

because I am too and I cannot log into my account anymore...

Just called DHL they said they have a new policy where they will not look for inbound shipment without a tracking number Sad

so much for that idea...

hehehe you dont have to believe me, I'm half expecting not to even receive the damn thing.

to be honest the thing that worries me is the pictures on the website look like radio shack project boxes with stickers on them.

I ordered it with my credit card and I will instantly charge it back if it does not arrive or is fake once it does... I figure with the protection from my CC company I mine as well try - im way too late in the game to order from BFL.

lol Maybe I will just say it didnt arrive and order more for myself. I decided since I was making the plunge and ordering an actual miner I mine as well make an account and join this seemingly incredibly sarcastic and hostile community. Ive been lurking without an account for about a year - I dont really have time to be a full time member so it was never a big deal for me.

Just forget I said anything at all. jeeesh
