101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: VGA/USB Mass Splitter or similar system? on: September 18, 2016, 02:19:20 PM
Many thanks qaaq.

Oh dear, when you start going over 4 port, these things are horribly expensive.  Can anyone think of an alternative way of achieving this?  Some kind of virtual control system?
102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / VGA/USB Mass Splitter or similar system? on: September 18, 2016, 12:04:09 PM
I have a growing fleet of ubuntu boxes I use for mining, currently around 20.  The only annoying thing is constantly having to unplug then replug the keyboard/mouse/monitor into each to reboot or amend.

Is there a mass vga/usb splitter available?  Or is there an easier way of doing this?  Haven't been able to find one Sad

Thanks

Hello,

What are the safest methods to store Monero coin offline?

Also, safest online storage methods?

Thanks

Oh crap you're right..  I wonder what he means?  multiple AMD 8350-FX?  Doesn't specify  Sad

I'm using minergate-cli on Ubuntu.

Thanks

106  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Monero Mining on a AMD 8350-FX on: September 13, 2016, 10:27:33 PM
Hello,

I saw on this spreadsheet the AMD 8350-FX is capable of achieving 839 h/s:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MI-ic0Os25hgGUImW54sUIjZY_pUNQNa_W8Se5pRGBs/edit?pli=1#gid=0

However, on my Ubuntu box, using a console miner, I can only get speeds of around 350h/s.  I haven't yet attempted to overclock, and would prefer not to risk damaging the CPU.  Do you all think I just need to start over clocking to improve the h/s, or are there other things I can try first?

Thanks

Hello,

AMD 8350-FX Black Edition is an excellent CPU for mining with, and relatively inexpensive.

Is it possible to buy a motherboard with as many CPU sockets as possible to fit AMD 8350-FX Black Editions?  Any suggestions how to achieve this?

Thanks

1) that's far too hot for any CPU - you need to improve your cooling. Check the brand of your CPU, confirm which socket it uses then buy a new heatsink/fan combo (also check the height of your case)

2) You can use a device like this: https://www.amazon.com/P3-International-P4460-Electricity-Monitor/dp/B000RGF29Q (which will tell you how much the whole system is using)

3) if cellular is your only option, I would do this: https://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-MR3020-Wireless-Portable-Router/dp/B00634PLTW. get a new sim card or add a data sim card to your existing plan

thank you very much superking123.  I cant seem to find the info about how many connections the tp link allows at the same time?

Hello,

I am CPU mining at around 100H/s on my home computer.  I have three questions please:

1) CPU temperature is getting to around 90°c.  Am I damaging the CPU and hugely reducing its life expectancy doing this?

2) Could someone please give me a rough estimation as to how much power this is using?  I always left my PC on anyway..

3) I also have a little fleet of PCs.  Is there any device which connects to my mobile phones 4G, then can act as a access point for many PCs and use my mobile phones 4G for internet access?  my phone only allows 3 connections Sad

Thanks
111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Monero Mining - Buying new CPUs for Old PCs on: August 30, 2016, 02:03:43 AM
Hello,

I have access to a lot of old PCs - small form factor Lenovo ThinkCentre M91p's specifically.

Heres the model in question: http://microdream.co.uk/lenovo-thinkcentre-m91p-sff-quad-core-i5-2400-8gb-ram-250gb-windows-10-professional-64bit-desktop-pc-computer.html?gclid=COrb8NuC6M4CFe0y0wodqPIB4w#.V8Tl0FsrLIU

Is it possible to buy powerful CPUs for these older PCs, install them and start mining monero coins this way?  If so, whats the most powerful CPU that will fit in these older PCs?

Heres a list I found of the most powerful CPUs for monero mining: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MI-ic0Os25hgGUImW54sUIjZY_pUNQNa_W8Se5pRGBs/edit?pli=1#gid=0

If this is not possible, is there any way of putting these older PCs to use for monero mining?

Thanks
