101  Economy / Currency exchange / [PROOF OF CONCEPT] Testers Needed (Full Members+ ONLY) on: September 21, 2020, 03:43:39 PM
Guys,

I am willing to test one of the ideas for a worldwide Bitcoin Lightning-based micropayment system (max. $50 per transfer strictly). The idea is to send a fiat/e-money micropayment across the world as cheaply as possible end-to-end. For example, send $4 from Argentina to Russia as cheap as possible, within max. 10%.

I need some testers from different countries with the Full Member+ status (no exceptions, high trust is essential) to test the idea. The following countries regions are needed:

- Europe (two countries - one Western Europe, one - Central or Eastern Europe (TAKEN), 1 tester per country)
- USA (1 tester)
- South America (one country, 1 tester per country)
- China (1 tester)
- Russia (1 tester) (TAKEN)
- Asia (any two countries, 1 tester per country)
-  Africa (two countries, 1 tester per country)

All the necessary funds to be used in the testing will be provided by me.

Please drop me a PM or leave a note in this thread indicating your country/region and I will contact you directly.

103  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Need to deposit USD to a federal inmate, paying BTC [Full members + up only] on: September 20, 2020, 01:09:24 PM
And then your name is forever tied to fact that you sent money to a federal inmate.
Does it matter? To some people no, to others yeah a lot.
Just seems to be one of those things that could come back to be an issue years down the road when you totally forgot you did it.

-Dave

Exactly, that was my suspicion too. The guy wants to avoid for some reasons being connected to that transfer.

SERVICE #4: TAKE A DEEPER DIVE
Status: in development
Description: move funds into LN satoshis at a very cheap rate.
The cheapest I've found to convert on-chain Bitcoin to the Lightning Network:
BlueWallet (custodial!): only your own on-chain Bitcoin transaction fee.
Phoenix Wallet: 0.1% plus your own on-chain Bitcoin transaction fee.

Note: I didn't include fees for sending LN payments later on and/or withdrawing to on-chain Bitcoin.

Thanks for your post, really appreciate your opinion.

My point here is that we need to avoid btc transfer fees AT ALL by moving funds (fiat, e-money) DIRECTLY into the LN wallets. This is especially important for micropayments. It does not make sense to move $5 into LN and lose $1+ on transfer fees. It becomes feasible only at $50 and up.

Imagine the scenario: Bob from the US wants to move $10 of fiat into LN and quickly send it over to Nigeria

1) He buys btc for his $10 at an exchange (he pays around 2-10% commission)
2) Occasionally, he needs to go from onchain btc to LN (losing another %)

There is huge cost inefficiency here killing the LN benefits on the spot. Entry barriers to LN are too high for small payments.

Maybe i'm missing something here. But my idea is to find a way of sending small fiat amounts from point A to point B very very cheap using the LN as backbone.

107  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Need to deposit USD to a federal inmate, paying BTC [Full members + up only] on: September 20, 2020, 06:50:47 AM
I don’t get it. You pay btc to another person to do a cash deposit.

Why don’t you sell your btc at an exchange and transfer the funds via JPay to your friend ? Why do you neee a middleman?

Seriously?
Seriously!

But why?
I never install software I don't trust on any system that I use for other things. Actually, this is the reason I didn't install Bitcoin-qt when I first heard about it (and I still regret that decision).

Are there any Telegram related security threats I should be aware of?
I didn't look for them, I just do it as a precaution. Just like all altcoin and Forkcoin wallets. If it can't reach my host OS, it can't get compromised.

But you can use it at a separate phone and as a web app.

TG is amazing. I agree we should be more cautious regarding the desktop app.

116  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Get Your First 200 Satoshis for the Bitcoin Lightning Network! on: September 16, 2020, 01:31:14 PM
Great to see this taking off and more people are joining in, I'm already part of this and joined the Telegram group, won the prize, didn't have time to play some dice with the gang Cheesy It is secondary anyway, fun though, but more important thing is that we are all learning about using LN.

Transactions are really fast though, I was pleasantly surprised, haven't tried sending any yet, so if there is someone new who wants to receive some satoshis, you can put your address here or on TG group and I'll give it a go and send some.

I have about 50000 satoshis at the moment.

Thanks, Crypto Warrior! It's really cool to see the LN thing lifting off!

Other members are cordially invited to join our LN (and other) fun here:

120  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Get Your First 200 Satoshis for the Bitcoin Lightning Network! on: September 15, 2020, 09:51:29 AM
Thanks for your help! You think it's the same guy using different accounts?
I didn't jump to conclusions since I'm not familiar with "Wallet of Satoshi".
There's a possibility but if it's a custodial wallet as pointed above, it can be the server's node.

Anyways, I'll try to pay some active invoice to help you with this very good initiative and to increase their LN micro funds.

Thanks, really appreciate your help.

I think I have a kind of a similar problem here with my 100 sats Lightning faucet:

https://lnpay.co/t/27bad6/web

One destination node drained the faucet in a short time (node 037cc5f9f1da20ac0d60). I suspect it's just one guy doing that. I am checking with the LnPay guys if we can solve that
