101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] [MEC] Megacoin has arrived. Scrypt & Core 0.8.2+ Updates: CPU Fix & Ports on: June 15, 2013, 12:42:57 AM
From Dr Kimoto:

Well a short summary: Have a coin that isn't backed by a incredibly stale development "team" (LTC) that asks for donations. I've been mirroring BTC every step along the way but using scrypt.  The coin distribution may sound weird, but it was highly calculated as well to provide benefits to all who wish to join and long term potential.  Not have an insane block time and a block re-target calculation that works for most situations (without making people re download their clients weeks later) and survive the initial surges. This is definitely not a pump in dump.  I recoded in a very short time what several people couldn't in over a year.

He is also developing a website for this coin that is going to be quote "kick ass" whatever that means....
Developing the back end tools to easily add payment gateway stuff to your website.
As mentioned before, it uses the most recent Bitcoin code using scrypt. Something that the litecoin "team" has been unable to do.

The coin is basically the only Unique coin to come out since litecoin just under the software tree its using. All the other coins (and there are many) are essentially copy and paste with nothing more added except changes in the coins/re-targets.

The skills of this Dev are certainly par above many of the other coin dev's and we should expect to see some great things.

We need a website, a new logo, and some more attention.

It seems like a decent coin with good potential but has only a small buzz going on about it.

The dev is not looking to make a Pump and dump coin.  Confidence in this coin will grow as services are developed along the way. The statement that there will be no wine before its time should exemplify this coin.
So, any Immediate profiteering should be overlooked for greater profitability down the road.

Current Network Hash: 188.68 Mh/s

seems this coin is more and more popular by the minute. Im really curious what happens when it hits one of the mining profitability sites.

How can it go on a profitability website without a current market value for the coin?...

Where can it currently be sold and tracked to determine profitability?

ehh, its on cryptsy?

The worse part about being involved in crypto is the amount of children running around with their hair on fire. So dramatic, so disheartening, zero patience for anything that goes awry for a few hours. Everyone has their favorite coin and poster child dev. Its like watching lemmings sometimes.
All that drama aside.
Megacoin is something pretty exciting. Its new software and lots of new things to figure out along the way. Relax, steal one of Dads beers and chill.

your pool seems to be a scam more like it

Either that or the code used in megacoin is so fresh and new that p2pool doesnt work properly with it. Perhaps the good DR. could chime in here and explain.

Looks like Cryptsy listed MEC, Megacoin. perhaps you could add to the profit charts? see if were overpaying for it?

Thanks!

ASIC's are surely possible for scrypt mining - because ASIC means that you build circuit for specific think - and when you have specific needs there is no problem to put memory scrypt needs. Memory these days is very cheap so ASIC could be designed + build for reasonable price

I might further add, that the first ones you see will not be ASIC, they will be FPGA's with some external ram to hash the 128K block. The theory is that cgminer is being ported to VHDL to burn into some FPGA's. Once thats done it becomes quite easy to contract a chip designer to make it in stone (asics). In fact. there is NO encryption hash that cannot be done in an ASIC.

FPGA's might be the wave of future miners. they may take a bit more power and might be a little more expensive than ASIC's, but they are reconfigurable and can be changed to hash anything at a later date.

I don't know... my reaction was: 'Why don't you just join the Free State Project and make New Hampshire a Bitcoin economy?'

Because the free state in NH is back to the constitution, this sounds like something else, perhaps an oligarchy?

whats the average temperature there in the winter? how about the summer.. I dont like the idea of living in the permafrost.. anything above the 35th parallel is gonna suck 50%+ of the year.

There are thousands of acres of in BC Canada that are owned by the Queen of England....If we squat there drill some wells and plant some trees. Do you really think the Queen is going to bring us an eviction notice or force us off the land with military force? The biggest threat would be the oil and gas industry. ITCCS has already issued an arrest warrant for the Queen of England and the previous Pope Benedict seeking to absolve the Canadian Government and bring them all to trial under Common Law for crimes against humanity. The issue is that people don't have the balls to stand up to these tyrannical institutions or at least the wherewithal to hold them accountable for their actions. The are plenty of resources in Canada and plenty of water and plenty of land. The perfect place for sustainable communities.

In reality no one owns land. You simply settle and develop land. And people with the means and/or force are the ones who usually take advantage of the lands abundance. Fuck bureaucracy, fuck governments, fuck industry. Just go make a healthy living for yourself while you still can.

At the bottom i posted just a couple of links. But my wife and I have researched squatters rights, Common Law, ITCCS and Crown Land. Its as real as BTC. Why take out a loan from a bank that doesn't own the land? Why allow all that precious land to go to waste on drilling and industrial development?
