101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 23, 2013, 05:33:44 PM
Block time seems to be roughly around or above 1 minute now.

Are all the botnets priming away? Or  is that why the block times are so normal?

EDIT: nvm seems it was only for a few blocks.

It's not just for a few blocks.  The difficulty is decreasing.  Seems we are stable around 9.24, for now.
That would explain the difficulty decreasing by .001 over the last 3 hours.

Now that CPU mining has hit it's limit, what will GPU mining bring?
102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: So many alt coins, so little hashing power...what to mine? on: July 23, 2013, 05:27:29 PM
Primecoin because it has the potential to be useful.

It is not an attack. It's an issue in the miner that doesn't handle large block efficiently. A fix is being tested. Both the stock miner and mikaelh's miner are impacted.
I tried taking the creation of a new block template outside of the loop, and it still seems to be affecting me.

Some weird stuff going on, weird block delays. What if we've hit the boundry between what the network can handle, and what the difficulty expects us to handle, and that's why we are flip flopping between mining and waiting.
106  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 22, 2013, 08:34:16 PM
So the transactions aren't being included into the block even though they are degrading the performance of the miners.

Okay seriously wtf, there are 12 tx in the 200kb block.

Why are people consolidating all their coinbases at the same time?
108  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 22, 2013, 08:30:15 PM
Why is the block 202kb?
We're kind of stuck on it, transactions are adding up quickly  Shocked

39 minute block.

78415 -- Mon Jul 22 16:25:42 EDT 2013

Any idea what happened?
Miners pulled out?

We need GPU miners quickly don't we?

Could you release the python script?
112  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [QRK] Quark | Super secure hashing | CPU mining | Start is now! on: July 21, 2013, 10:05:43 PM
This could have been a good GPU resistant coin if the block interval was longer.
113  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What is stopping pruning from being added to the qt client? on: July 21, 2013, 05:38:43 AM
I am starting to think the only way to prune effectively is to create an archive node, and such a rule for lightnodes that they always keep a connection or route to an archive node.

Transactions' Inputs would only be pruned after the coinbase in their block was spendable, that would be the rule so that all lightnodes have the same pruned chain.

When a new node connected they would either find an archive node and start the whole process, or query lightnodes to determine a consensus of the legitimacy of a pruned block. Using the archival node would be preferred due to it being verifiable. To ensure archival nodes exist in sufficient quantities, perhaps there could be a system to buy access to them? Thus making them an avenue for profit.
114  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: NETWORK FREEZE bitcoin difficulty stuck high with a large hashrate drop on: July 20, 2013, 03:27:13 PM
Why would somebody spend the money to develop, then deploy the miners just to pull them offline? They'd make more money by continuing to mine...

Even if they were to just do this out of hatred, the network would adapt rather quickly.
115  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Have ASICS really ruined all GPU mining? And damaged the future of crypto? on: July 20, 2013, 01:32:38 PM
ASICs ensure the survival of cryptocoins.

The amount of energy that goes into the network has to be minimized for it to be viable.
116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Primecoin Price? on: July 19, 2013, 05:43:52 PM
Isn't it more a proof of concept, than potential valuable commodity?

Bitcoin was a proof of concept.  Wink

Fair enough....but crypto currency isn't a new concept anymore....just seems to be little/no movement to do anything with the coin outside of mining it and listing found primes.  Maybe I'm just missing it somewhere.

It's not even a month old. Give it time, people who see the value in it will create a market for it. Imagine people who will offer discounts for using Primecoin as payment?
117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] CUDA enabled qt client miner for primecoins. Source code inside. WIP on: July 19, 2013, 02:04:09 PM
Using GPU for primality testing is the logical first step.
118  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 19, 2013, 01:07:10 PM
GPU mining won't bring it above 20 me thinks. Still 2.5 reward per block.
119  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 19, 2013, 02:17:18 AM
I don't really understand. with the xpm difficulty and reward like it is, it doesn't seem like it will be worth mining soon.
If all you care about is profit, then yeah.

Well, that is why the vast majority of people are mining.
I keep forgetting how rare altruistic ideals are.

PPS dropped by 500% and blocksize went up from 1000 to 90506?

Spam transactions.

What are the consequences of this?

Blockchain bloat. I looked at the transactions and they are not even to the same address so idk what it's for.
