1001  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: After the halving will bitcoin mining become not viable? on: May 06, 2016, 04:27:08 AM
How would you like to have your income cut in half by a sudden announcement? If you're a masochist, you will enjoy it; if you're not, stay away from getting into mining at this time. Too much uncertainty.

How do you know the price will double? If you're sure, invest in bitcoin directly. Why take a chance at mining, with Diff rising?

Sudden announcement?  We know about having LONG before it happens so sudden announcement is not true at all.   Look at difficulty changes: https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty.  We have almost halved not to long ago due to just new gear being plugged in:

Feb 19 2016    163,491,654,909    13.44%    1,170,318,852 GH/s
Feb 07 2016    144,116,447,847    20.06%    1,031,625,717 GH/s
Jan 26 2016    120,033,340,651    5.89%    859,232,121 GH/s
Jan 13 2016    113,354,299,801    9.12%    811,421,684 GH/s

Jan 13 - Feb 19.  Look at those stats so having... we can cause losing 1/2 of mining income due to normal expansion.  And no one can be sure on what will happen on having or what pricing will be.

Ok, maybe I didn't make it clear. So, you knew about halving LONG before it happened? Well, so did I. Really. It was all over the forum. I was on the forum in late 2012 when the first halving happened.

I was responding to the original poster who wanted to know if mining will still be viable after halving. Since you fixated on the word "announcement" (which was a poor choice in words, I must admint),

let me fix it:

How would you like to have your income cut in half suddenly? If you're a masochist, you will enjoy it; if you're not, stay away from getting into mining at this time. Too much uncertainty.

How do you know the price will double? If you're sure, invest in bitcoin directly. Why take a chance at mining, with Diff rising?

If you look at bitcoin at all you should see at certain points it has having.... it is known FAR before it happens.   There is no sudden announcement it's part off Bitcoin mining.  It's not that I have some special announcement it happens and is well known.

You are changing your story from it being a sudden announcement to "How would you like to have your income cut in half suddenly?".  So to be clear you are changing your old post question to a new one.

But the anwser to "How would you like to have your income cut in half suddenly?".  Is it depends on things not known  for example what will bitcoin price do?   If value does not go up and it get's cut in have yes that would stink...... but it still is not "your income cut in half by a sudden announcement?" no matter how you re-word your post.
1002  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any tips to promote a referral link ? on: May 05, 2016, 05:32:30 PM
Just be active in the forum and create some promotion here in forum and give giveaways to people who will
join and sign up to your referral link.

You run into the problem of referrals paying so little a decent promotion/giveaway is going to be hard to do.   You are right though if your willing to back it and lose money at first maybe I see a way of it working long term.

But I think it's kinda a gamble on if your referral takes off.  I think many will not be able to gain profit this way.
1003  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Blockchain.info steals 5 BTC, ignores all communication (RESOLVED) on: May 05, 2016, 05:11:58 PM
I believe this happened to me too. I am trying to see if I can get resolution. I am a total newbie, but I believe I was not at fault. Any suggestions.

Can you go into more details of your situation?  I have a feeling this 2 year old thread is not relevant to anything current from reading it.  But tell us what happened, and how you lost your coins.

Honestly you probley would have been better off starting your own thread.
1004  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Apr 28 to May 12? picks are open!!.... prize = 0.30 btc on: May 05, 2016, 05:05:22 PM
Bitwisdom keeps going up:

Bitcoin Difficulty:    178,659,257,773
Estimated Next Difficulty:    186,994,737,738 (+4.67%)
Adjust time:    After 923 Blocks, About 5.9 days
Hashrate(?):    1,420,120,580 GH/s

Think it's going to be higher then my guess.  Price in last 24 hours we hit around 450... and dropped to around 446 right now. I think there is some sell walls making 450 slow again.. but hopefully by end of difficulty period we are above 450  is where I would like to see us.

Maybe they turn off the 150ph farm tonight.

My guess is we are going to to stay with it until the end of the diff.

Hope i'm wrong and you're right tho ! ;-)

EDIT: I just took a look at the https://blockchain.info/pools and we see that F2Pool just overpass Antpoo during the last 48 hours. I don't remember seeing this when the "150 Peta" (If it's the same) was going online in previous Diff.

That is interesting pools seem to be shifting more then I thought they would.  With it being F2 going up I think good chance hashrate is from china.  Hard to saw who really nothing big has been released.

F2 did add Ether mining... so I give them credit on staying current.  But still surprised to see antpool shrink.
1005  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: AntMiner S7 > BW 14 nm? on: May 05, 2016, 05:02:16 PM
I know I am probably missing something here, just need help with what it is.  The way I am running the numbers it still seems like the AntMiner S7 is more efficent that the upcoming BW 14 nm.  This wouldn't make any sense, so here is how I am looking at it currently:

AntMiner S7  / 4.73 TH/s = 4730000000000 Hashs/s / 1293W = 3658159319 Hashs Per Watt Efficiency
BW 14 nm / 63.0 GH/s (maximum advertised) = 63000000000 Hashs/s / 18W = 3500000000 Hashs Per Watt Efficiency

This seems to make the S7 more efficient by 158159319 Hashs

I understand there are simpler ways to break this down, but I wanted to go all the way to Hashs. Also i understand the BW 14 nm has not been released to the public and that the final stats on it may not be known.  Over all though what am I missing here?  Huh

As a backdrop:
I am new to mining and want to start into it effectively and I am trying to decide if I should wait for the BW 14 nm to release which may obsolete the S7 or if should just get some S7s.  And even still with the upcoming halving that I am hearing about should I just skip Bitcoin and start mining LiteCoin or another alternative (with different mining equipment of course).

Where are you getting your info on spec?   The B11 is here - https://www.bw.com/pool/miner .  And remember this  is early on in chips so hard to say what they will hit once they fine tune them.

They also have not been mass released on BW's.  A reseller or two got a few and tried to sell, but was not really official direct from BW.  So again hard to say on somethings like price.

I think we need more info to make better decision comparing two.  Hard part is we don't know when we will have info on BW final release.
1006  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can I benefit from btc? on: May 05, 2016, 11:48:53 AM
1) How can I benefit from btc?
2) I mean let's say I bought 2 btc, what next? how can I earn more of btc or dollars
3) Why do people rush over btc if it's just an electric currency without having benefit from it?

Ok split it into 3 parts.  How do you benefit?  We need to know more about your situation but bitcoin is a payment network that spans the world.   Easy to use and send to someone far away if needed.   Some benefit much more from it's functions then others

Ok before buying 2 you need to decide what is your goal?   Are you buying for a profit?  If so could mean holding it a decent amount of time trying to gain a profit.  There are no guarantees you could win big or lose big.  But you need to decide are you happy with 10 dollar profit? 50 dollar profit?   ETC.  No one else but you can set your goals.

You really need to read more about the beneficial nature of bitcoin and what it has to offer.  As far as "rush over btc" it is the number one crypto currency.   So it is the one with the most publicity, most acceptance, etc.    So if looking at crypto world it is the coin use most of time.
1007  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Any tips to promote a referral link ? on: May 05, 2016, 11:42:04 AM
From my experience, buying promotion and ad spaces on faucets is not a good idea. The click rate is very low and when people register for your promoted service they are usually hardly active.
It is better to promote your site / service on a more quality websites. But this usually costs more.

Much better to ask someone in the services section to promote your referral link to their faucets / websites.

But I don't have idea how much it will cost for it.

Don't forget OP mentioned referral would be for:
Faucet / PTC ...

So promoting a faucet on another faucet... makes no sense and will have horrible click rate, impressions don't count for much in my book.   Also with this being said how will he pay for a "quality" site when he's taking about so small of payments he's getting?

I think it's the ultimate dream of a referral being used by many.  But at end of day for almost all it's just that a dream.
1008  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it possible? on: May 05, 2016, 11:36:06 AM
Or create a faucet rotator then spread out that rotator in the Micro Earnings section, that way it'll be known by a lot of guys.

Faucet rotator runs into same thing as referrals, there is many others why should people use yours?  You really can't promise better faucets then other one... so it's going to be hard most likely already loyalty to the ones people already use.

And really a rotator is a fancy way to try to get referral's, some don't realize that the rotator is using only faucets they have referrals to.I see this just as hard to get as referrals.  You need some factor other rorators do not have.... and I don't see a big one just waiting there for someone to profit off of.

possible, but difficult if you only rely on income from referrals, because it is currently very difficult to find referrals.
better you focus on building your account and try to join the signature campaign if your rank reach member

I still stick with you would need to find something new or something with a "neat" factor in most cases.  If you and 20+ other people are all competing for the same site it's very hard to get any of the click though traffic.  And some it's hundreds of other people... so quite hard.

I personally would suggest someone focus on learning a skill they could sell vs time into a referral.  I just don't see a return on a lot of the referrals.
1011  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: WHICH BITCOIN WALLET IS THE MOST GOOD AND CONVINENCY on: May 05, 2016, 09:46:25 AM
Hi Legendary Member, Hero Member, Senior Member, Full Member etc. Could pls tell the most secure and also convinent to use btc wallet. thanks
beware with wallet that use vanity address,i just mention this for warn everyone after i read thread about vanity address that could stole bitcoin from your wallet. basicly almost all wallet are secure, coinbase, blockchain, multibit or another wallet have same security method, just activat your 2FA for more security. everything can happen to your wallet if you dont aware with phising or another people who try scamming you.

Ok, I have blockchain wallet but I have not activate the 2FA and if I get you right. Are you saying if I don't activate the 2FA my wallet may get hacked?
It is up to you if you are going to enable your 2fa. Even though it takes time to verify it.
But it will make your account / wallet more secure.

I would say that if you are using the blockchain wallet make full use of all the security options.

In the new blockchain wallet there is a progress bar which shows you how many security options you have set, if the progress bar is not complete it means there are more security options you could use, 2fa, second password for transactions and more.

My recommendation would be use and get comfortable with the security options before making full use of the wallet.

I still think Yubikey is great for blockchain as 2FA.  Here is me doing hands on with a few - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1353231.0 .  But it is a physical token which many are not.

Even though it is my spending money (not much) I use a yubikey.  To log in someone would have to have my yubikey with them, so physically steal it from me and press the button.  No software can press the button only human touch, which is what I like about it so much.
1012  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How earn Bitcoins fast and free?? on: May 05, 2016, 09:36:57 AM
if you think free is No need money to earn it, you can use faucet, sign campaign, or earning from ads. but you must spend more time to earn it.

I agree that faucet is free but  I really doubt that signature campaign is free too, as you need to hold high rank account to join any campaign and for that you need to buy a account.

you do not have to buy an account. secone said at the end of a sentence, you must spend more time to earn it, means to achieve the highest rank you will also spend a lot of time.

I agree with you, you don't have to buy an account / high rank account. Because it is better if you will experience your account to be in the lowest rank and you are seeing it rising every update. And base on the title of the thread, it will not become free anymore
because you need invest for buying high rank account.

or at least you have a 0.005 you can buy the account's potential. or you can get Jr.member-member and does not need high rank account to join the signature campaign. with it you do not need to spend a lot of time and you can get fast and free bitcoin.

If he needs to spend lot of time that means its not fast and if you want to earn it free then faucets is the only option left for you.

something fast and free will not be able to get good results, like a faucet.
But something slowly and free, it will get good results, such as the signature campaign, because the longer you play, the greater your income

Not necessary true most are capped after a certain number of posts on signature campaigns.  So longer you post does not mean more pay, I pretty much every week get more posts then my max paid.  It is because I enjoy the boards and am here sig pay or not.

I am not doing it as pay I consider it as bonus... so fine with me.  But there is very much a limit on signature campaigns on how much you can "play".   Day's of unlimited are gone, and not coming back sadly due to people abuse it.
1013  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Internet to SP30 via laptop on: May 05, 2016, 09:32:32 AM
I've seen a couple people experiment with adaptors and yagi antenna's, but nothing beats an old fashioned utp cable.
Are you sure you cannot connect your garage with a switch in your home trough a normal cat5e or cat6 utp cable?

There's also the option of using those ethernet over powerline adaptors, but they won't work in certain setups (it's early in my country, i cannot find the correct technical terms yet).

I personally think running your miners over a wifi connection might not be a great idear in terms of stability... But that's just my (untested) opinion.

Ethernet over power really depends on your setup, I have messed with them they worked surprisingly well as a temporary solution to get a Ethernet plug.  That being said I still was not happy overall and went straight cat cable.

But a single miner should have no problem with  a wireless to ethernet adapter (assuming range works).   If you get from amazon you can return if does not work (most big box stores are the same).     But I don't think wireless will be an issue with 1 miner assuming a good signal.
1014  Other / Meta / Re: I caught someone cheating in auction on: May 05, 2016, 09:27:20 AM
Shill bidding is bad and I would drop a negative on someone for it. There is just no justification for doing it other than being greedy.

It also looks bad for him, I think a innocent person would say that they did not do it and are innocent.  He asks how can they say he was involved.   So kinda shady on that  part.

I just came across this thread after searching the Meta section for my name. Anyway, how can you say that I'm involved in cheating an auction? I bought the account at the BIN price because that seemed pretty cheap for a Member account.

Above is just part of quote go above for full

Well, yeah, an innocent person would also file charges for false allegations. If I said that I didn't do it, what are the odds of him believing me? He'll probably raise up some other affiliation like followed comments etc. so I just asked him a straightforward question.

This is a internet forum a innocent person would not go file charges over this.  But they would deny it and say they did not do it, which you still have not did.   Not say how do you know I did it? I think and that is just my 2cents.

Are you denying doing it?  Or just denying no one has proved it?
1015  Other / Meta / Re: so.. just got phissed! on: May 05, 2016, 09:24:30 AM
Sounds good. I might sound a bit paranoia here, but could you confirm it with your daggerhashimoto account so I can delete that negative trust?

I thought the same thing.  That is awful quick to get it back were talking very very quick.  Email could have been confirmed on previous, but with no signature or normal proof I'm a little cautions.

I would treat like possible account scammer at the moment.
The thread in question was posted in both r/bitcoin and r/btc and was "promoted" in zero block (automatically), plus the high profile and high interest nature of what the thread was supposedly about implies that it would be likely that a reasonable person would get tricked into providing their login credentials to that phishing site. Looking at the timeframes that the password was changed and when the threads were posted also make it relatively easy to check if getting phished matches the times in question.

It is also very easy to verify that someone is an alt of someone else if they simply use the same computer.

I also would not be surprised if the OP is not alone in getting phished so the OP's hacked account would likely show up as alts of other hacked accounts that were likely hacked around the time the threads were posted.

And you got my post before deleted.  I deleted after seeing last active dates, it seemed to fit.  I could not find a reason good reason to doubt.  But that was why it was deleted.  And man are you fast if you caught it Smiley.

But happy all worked out well for OP in the end.
1016  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Plan on mining on: May 05, 2016, 06:55:08 AM
If you have free electricity, it is better to mine. But you should mine altcoins, they are more profitable than bitcoin.

Not necessary true with free electricity.  With free electricity the cost of the miner (or GPU's in altcoins) really is a big factor.  So don't forget that initial cost of buying the equipment.

With so much old asic gear it could be a had cheaper then say a 300 series GPU or such.  So depends all on price really on equipment.

you currently earn more with gpu, a six rig gpu can earn you 0.03 on ethereum per day, i doubt you can do the same with old asic

initial investment on gpu is less of a thing to worry about, because unlike asic, gpu don't die after 3 months, they have a high resell value

Six of what GPU?   There is a cost to acquire them so I still think it all depends.   GPU's can die when I was "big" into gpu mining I saw it happen, but now I just dabble in GPU.

One thing to keep in mind also is you mention resell value it can be pushed downed.   When GPU when down the crapper long ago a LOT of gpu's hit the market at once so it did effect the market price.

But please show more of the math behind this six rig system.  What GPU's are you using? What was cost to acquire?   GPU's can still add up in cost.   I do agree it depends though on so many factors.

i mean they do not die as a soldable value, you can easily sell them afterward, and still they have a far better warranty than any asic, this is well knowm

i was talking about six gpu in general, you can buy six 370 if you have not enough fud, they are cheap enough, i bought 4 g1 970 gaming, i'll sell them in two months, before the next gen come out at the same price on ebay, so probably i will lose zero

I think ether's value will be a factor in this though.   If it goes down quickly and lots try to unload at once it can push the market down on what people pay.  I do agree warranty are normally in years which is nice.

So there is a possibility of all selling at once.  Also add in paypal/ebay fee's they will come out of it and add up, and you have to be priced lower then newegg/amazon so I see losing there.  And possibility of scam's out there to.   Someone could use for X day's and try to do a refund.

So it would agree on saying they are better then asics on keeping value.  But I still think there are risk's associated still with them.
1017  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How earn 1BTC a year? on: May 05, 2016, 04:44:54 AM
I agree that a signature campaign could get you to 1 bitcoin but you would need to have good post quality and get on a high paying campaign.  Most of the better ones are very restrictive.

But the fact is there no active campaigns available at a moment which will allow new participant to join so we should also try to find other ways to earn bitcoin.

because so many new member at this forum, and i think more than 50% of member use signature campaign for sidejob, for extra income.

It should be thought as of a bonus not really a sidejob.  If you use forums like normal and use signature as a bonus it works out great as you spend normal amount of time you would and normal amount/quality of posts.

A lot that go with idea of sidjob tend to focus on number of posts... and quality goes down.  So I would be scared to start people with that mindset.
1018  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin doubts for an average person on: May 05, 2016, 04:42:02 AM
Well I do have 900 USD but it is the only money that I have until I get a new job so I cant just buy every bitcoin I can with my money, I dont know too much about economics, but since more businesses are accepting them, the demand is getting higher so I am pretty sure that because of that the price is gonna go up and also because of the news, they are making it more popular.

As far as buying them I am still not sure how to do it, as I said I live in Ecuador, I do have an international credit card, and a bank account. I was researching some sites but the fees are high, also some sites dont tell me I can buy them from ecuador without registering and even some sites were I register I can find any information.

So for Ecuador what will be the cheapest way to buy them? I checked on localbitcoins.com and there is just one seller and it is pretty expensive almost $600 per bitcoin.

As for thw Ledger,it really seems like a good cold storage wallet, amazon doesnt send it to ecuador and I could not find it on ebay, but I can buy it from www.ledgerwallet.com and the shipping is free, but I was thinking in a temporary solution maybe I could run a Virtual machine in like a unknow (but trusted) linux distribution, create a wallet there and then buy some bits and them to that wallet, I could check the funds online without using the linux distribution right?, and I could also transfer some bits to another wallet in my mac, what do you think?

Honestly I would not go all in if your between jobs.   Only invest what you are willing to lose, and not having a job investing all 900 if that is your nest egg is not so good of idea. LBC is never the cheapest way do to how it's anomyous to a point people pay extra.  You might see the closest local forum to you and find good exchange in there.  A good exchange will be a better price in most cases.

Yes longterm a hardware wallet is a good idea for BTC you touch frequently.   So I agree with getting one eventually.  But if you just have 900 dollars between jobs... by time you by hardware wallet and 1 btc you used up a lot of your fiat.  I might suggest starting smaller unless you have more of a nest egg then mentioned.
1019  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lost Password Help on: May 05, 2016, 04:32:46 AM
Take a look at this question similar to yours which was asked recently: Lost Electrum Wallet Password and Recovery Seed, you basically can't restore a wallet without a seed and can't access an encrypted one without the password. You can try one of the wallet recovery services as mentioned in the link but you will have to trust the service to not steal your funds.

Even if he trusts one of the services if he does not know the seed not a chance of recovering it via that, he would need an idea of it or it becomes impossible.  If he trust's them it might be possible with copy of wallet file, and you would need an idea of password.

If you used something random, or have no idea what it is chances are pretty slim of recovery.  But if you know part of password, or parts they can make custom wordists and you stand a much better chance.

I just went thourgh most of my comments and I don't see any addresses. I wasn't the tip begging type.
i do have an email address that is the same as the username but the guy changed my email address.

without a signed message from an old address your chance of getting your account back are quite low. but not impossible. you can try your luck and look for other means to prove your ownership of that account and PM theymos with your circumstances.

I know it's not a cryptographic proof, but since i never posted a bitcoin address on here, i really can't sign anything. This is all I have for proof and I really hope it's enough

Please see this thread i made a while ago:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=704304.msg7963357#msg7963357

Now, here is a picture of everything in that image, taken right now.

*Removed picture it's above

Did you trade with anyone on the forum?  Seeing you have a coin if you can get someone to say they traded with you and show address and then you sign with that address add's more for you to get back.

It just is normally crypto used to get account back.  A picture even though looks legit might be harder to get back.  Other thing I would do is prove you have ownership of email that was changed.   If you can prove old email is yours again adds to you getting it back.

I never traded with anyone on this site. I had a sfx.io profile, but that site went away a long time ago so i can't use that to prove anything.

Yes, I have control over that email address that was changed. I haven't heard anything back from Theymos.

It's normal not to hear back this quick, sadly it can be a lengthy process and that is if everything is there with signature and such.  So hard to guess how long the process will be.

I would find a way to show you have control of email it was changed from.   Someone might be of better help of what email to send to, but that at least shows something.

For others reading if you have not done it already you should stake an address- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.0 .  It is best way to prove proof of ownership.  So to late for OP, but others who have not done this should.
