1001  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining question about conflicting transactions on: May 10, 2020, 09:38:01 PM
To abstract, if you could make 1 transaction spending 5BTC and 1 other spending 3BTC while having only 6BTC would be possible if you could make both transactions at the same time. [...] How 2 conflicting transactions look like?

Your example would require someone to use the same inputs in both of these transactions. Transactions are conflicted if they attempt to spend the same inputs.

Some nodes will get the first transaction first, and some others the second [...] Now what I'm trying to understand here is the removal of any conflicting transactions. How exactly do computers remove the conflicting transactions?

Most nodes should reject the second transaction if they have the first one in their mempool even if it offers a lower fee. That is why using RBF is recommended in case the fee is set too low. Still, this does not make 0-conf transactions completely safe because of the race attack.
1002  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor web wallet leak ip / data ? on: May 10, 2020, 08:32:03 PM
Trezor claims not to log any user data in their Trezor Wallet. If you use the beta version, it sends some usage data and error logs due to experimental features. If you are really concerned about your privacy then you can use Trezor Wallet once - to initialize your device. For receiving and sending transactions you can pair your wallet with Electrum. It even supports more features (coin control and generating native SegWit addresses).

I tried clicking on it to see what it will ask it's already asking me to download something.

Trezor Bridge is required to use Electrum and Trezor Wallet if your browser doesn't support WebUSB.

let me know how to set that up that would be awesome !

Here is a tutorial for Electrum. You can skip the first part with the commands; follow the pictures step by step. Don't forget to download the latest Trezor Bridge.

It is even not possible to enter this page if you use Antivirus! Bitdefender blocks it

It depends on the anti-virus software you use. I use Malwarebytes Premium and it doesn't block the website.

2'nd computer and the 2'nd usb port on that computer did the trick...

Great! One more thing before you update. Make sure to uninstall all the apps before updating to the latest version. It is a one time thing and you won't have to do it for the future updates.
1005  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Help upgrading Nano Ledger S on: May 10, 2020, 06:06:35 PM
New USB-cable got me a bit futher. Now when I check if the Ledger is Genuine - I power it up, enter PIN. The PC (win10) now gives i pip (like when installing a new usb device). Now the error message in Ledger Live is - "Oops, couldn't connect to device" I have saved the json error file if needed.

Try connecting it to a different USB port. You can also try other steps from Ledger support website.

BTW - I can not check the version of Ledger Live, but I downloaded the latest version from ledger.com (2.3.2) - there is no "settings" menu in the program. [...] Could the Ledger Live software be fishy?. I downloaded it from ledger.com, and checked the ssl cert on the site.

There is a gear icon in the top-right corner which will show you the settings when you click on it. The software itself should be fine.

Could this have to do with the old software (1.3.1)? - That the Ledger Live does not support that old software on the Ledger S?

As far as I know, Ledger Live does not support firmware versions under 1.3.
1006  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Help upgrading Nano Ledger S on: May 10, 2020, 05:49:21 PM
When I try to run the "Genuine check" - I unlock the Ledger, but nothing happens. The Ledger Live asks if I have a hard time connecting, and there is a button for "Repair". When I try to follow the "Repair your Ledger device" procedure. It all stops when I try to load the bootloader. The Ledger displays "Bootloader" in the display, but then nothing more happens.

There could be several things causing such a behaviour. Try using a different USB cable or a different PC if it still doesn't work. Also, what version of Ledger Live do you have? You can check it the Settings -> About.
1007  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Help upgrading Nano Ledger S on: May 10, 2020, 05:25:01 PM
I have tried to use the Ledger Live software without success. Should I buy a new Nano Ledger, or try to upgrade the old?

There is no need for you to buy a new device. What kind of error do you get when you try to connect your device? Does anything happen at all?
1008  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.3.8 Not Connected on: May 10, 2020, 01:53:49 PM
If you have your own seed (12 words), have you perhaps tried a clean installation that involves deleting the Electrum folder with all files?

This might actually help. Instead of recovering you wallet, you can copy the wallet file. Press WIN + R and enter %appdata% . You should see 'Electrum' folder inside which there should be 'wallets' folder. Copy it to your desktop, uninstall Electrum and make sure that 'Electrum' folder in %appdata% is gone. If not, delete it as long as you have copied your wallet. Don't forget to put 'wallets' folder back there once you reinstall Electrum.
1009  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.3.8 Not Connected on: May 10, 2020, 11:53:52 AM
I think something is blocking my connection to electrum, maybe? What do you think?

Try disabling your firewall and any anti-virus software you have. You can also try connecting to some server manually (although Electrum should change servers on each startup). Click on the red dot in the bottom-right corner, select 'Server' tab, untick 'Select server automatically', right-click on any server on the list and select 'Use as server'.
1010  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Questions about node, digital sig and HD wallet on: May 10, 2020, 09:28:27 AM
If an HD wallet improves the privacy of the user by not reusing the same address overtime why is it that this person has been caught in using hundreds of bitcointalk account even though he is using an HD wallet?

HD wallet does not protect from mixing coins from other addresses in the same wallet. Most wallets don't support coin control which helps not to use coins from specific addresses as inputs in a new transaction.

However, Is there any option in running a bitcoin node without consuming a large amount of storage?

Yes, you can run a node in pruned mode. It will take significantly less space. Note that you will still have to download and verify all the blocks.

1012  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help with Coin control, importing private key from Trezor to Electrum on: May 09, 2020, 11:18:39 AM
lol i wasn't saying the thread is pointless. i'm saying consolidating inputs is pointless like i said above in my first post in this thread.

So, you don't mind paying more for a ~90 sat/byte transaction with multiple inputs when the fees spike instead of consolidating them at 1 sat/byte and making a small ~90/byte transaction? Here is an example. Let's say you have 20 inputs and need to send all of your coins to a single address (assume all addresses are legacy).

Without consolidation (90 sat/byte): 0.0027036 BTC
With consolidation: 0.00003004‬ BTC (at 1 sat/byte) + 0.0001728‬ BTC (at 90 sat/byte) = 0.00020284 BTC

The savings are quite clear to me.

If a) you've never spent  and b) you've received multiple transactions to the same address then doing a max send from that address in electrum should not lead to a transaction with just one input. So not sure what's going on here.
I've got an address with a single transaction with 11 inputs and 142 outputs.
I have never spent from this wallet but I have generated multiple inputs (from a single source) for certain addresses.

Apparently, OP sent a large transaction with 11 inputs and 142 outputs. One of those outputs, was his address from Electrum.
1013  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help with Coin control, importing private key from Trezor to Electrum on: May 06, 2020, 06:23:53 PM
One input and output to both the receiver and the change address of my wallet.

Not really but you are close. The number of inputs is related to the amount of coins you want to spend; not to the number of recipients. If you had two UTXOs - 0.1 BTC each and wanted to sent 0.15 BTC, you would use up 2 inputs and have 2 outputs. However, If you sent 0.05 BTC, you would use up 1 input and still have 2 outputs because of 0.05 BTC (minus the transaction fee) change .
1014  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help with Coin control, importing private key from Trezor to Electrum on: May 06, 2020, 05:25:31 PM
I've got an address with a single transaction with 11 inputs and 142 outputs. Is this something worth consolidating?

It looks like you are a bit confused. There is nothing to consolidate here. Your address was one of the 142 outputs in that transaction. The number of its inputs is irrelevant. Since that output has been included in a transaction, it is now an Unspent Transaction Output (UTXO).

In electrum preview spending from that address with max selected, it shows 1 input 1 output. Will this be the new input/output values of the address if I send max?

That UTXO can now be used as an input in a new transaction. Since you received only one transaction to your address, you will only have one input. If there is any change left from an input then another output is created. That output points to one of the addresses from the same wallet (either a change address or the address from which the coins were sent). If you received 10 transactions and wanted to spend all of your coins then you would have 10 inputs.

What are optimal input/output values for an address as it would relate to fees in the future when it's spent?

The more inputs and outputs you have in a transaction, the more fees you have to pay. Note that if you had to send the same amount of coins in separate transactions, you would pay more. As for the optimal values, let me quote LoyceV.

Example
18 days ago, someone made this 4909 bytes transaction with 33 inputs and 510 Satoshis/byte fee. After paying fees, his 0.033BTC turned into only 0.0079539BTC. If he would make the same transaction now with 20 Satoshis/byte fee, he would have saved 0.024BTC. Instead of just 0.0079539BTC, he would have ended up with 4 times more!
1015  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How fast is the bitcoin network's spread? on: May 04, 2020, 08:45:20 AM
So if I want to mine right now, I can't get 300 or 400 satoshi. I get 0BTC or 12,5BTC + fee. These are my only choices, right?

No, you can join a mining pool and try mining a block with other miners instead of solo mining. Every mining pool distributes rewards for contribution in a different way. Here you can find a detailed explanation of each type of reward.
1016  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help with Coin control, importing private key from Trezor to Electrum on: May 03, 2020, 05:43:49 PM
Trezor does not provide coin control, I understand the trezor private key will need to be imported to a different wallet which supports this.  I'm unsure how to do this, the risks, and the steps to controlling the specific UTXO's.

You don't have to expose your private keys in order to be able to use coin control in Electrum. Open Electrum, create a new standard wallet and select 'Use a hardware device'. Once your device is detected, you will be prompted to select the type of address you used - legacy (1...), nested SegWit (3...) or native SegWit (bc1...). You might need to modify the derivation path during this step. Which type of address did you use? Are you trying to access the address from the first account or some other one? Your derivation path should look like this:

Legacy: m/44'/0'/account'
Nested SegWit: m/49'/0'/account'
Native SegWit: m/84'/0'/account'

'account' is the number of the account you are trying to access. The first account is 0, the second is 1 and so on.
1017  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Question about coinbase.com - I have confirmation problem! on: May 03, 2020, 03:56:16 PM
How will I now know that my transaction was confirmed? Through electrum?

You can check it using Electrum or you can copy the transaction ID you posted before and paste it into any block explorer (e.g. blockstream). I guess you should also get an e-mail from Coinbase since you paid for something.
1018  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Question about coinbase.com - I have confirmation problem! on: May 03, 2020, 03:50:43 PM
Do I have to keep the coinbase.com window opened?

No, of course not. You can log in to your coinbase account on a different device and see that your transaction listed as unconfirmed somewhere.
1019  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Question about coinbase.com - I have confirmation problem! on: May 03, 2020, 03:46:47 PM
So there is no way to stop the transaction. Only if it will stuck in the mempool... Will I take my money back if it stucks?

You will be able to spend those coins again once your transaction is dropped from other node's mempools. You can't reverse that transaction. You have to either wait for it to be dropped or use RBF to bump the fee.
1020  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Question about coinbase.com - I have confirmation problem! on: May 03, 2020, 03:21:23 PM
What would happen if I had set the fewest fee? like 1 satoshi. Would I lose my money? But they would go where? Nowhere?

Your transaction would take even longer time to confirm. You wouldn't lose your money. If a transaction is stuck in the mempool for 2 weeks (default value), the transaction is dropped and you can broadcast another one from your wallet. You could try removing your transaction manually from your wallet, but I am quite sure that most nodes would reject your new transaction.
