I just transferred my BTCs to there - then it went down. They probably took the money and ran off(!)

I have deep respect for Bill Still. His documentary was one of the things that led me to bitcoin. And I noted that in his report on youtube he says "You can make a lot of money by trading in bitcoins...."  |

The price is pointing towards 100 usd, but sales orders are limited. Seems to me that bitcoins owners (like myself) are sitting on their coins, waiting for the price to become much much higher. But this is not gonna drive the market. What will happen in such a situation?

I made a few small transaction before I encrypted my wallet.
Is it still safe to use it?

It says 'reindexing blocks on disk'. So i believe it is just copying the alredy downloaded blockchain..?

I downloaded the new version, copied the filed to a new dir and started it. Then it immediately seems to have copied all my old transactions, showing all my btc's from old wallet are on their way in. Whats going on?

In fact, if you know your privkeys (and you really should), you can import them directly even without the wallet on the flashdrive.

But do you see the unconfirmed amount? If so, it will come, at least I experience >2 hrs to get confirms.

Yes to both of your questions. Your wallet.dat file contains private keys that authorize you to spend money that is associated with those keys.
Thanks for a clearyfying answer. It was like I presumed/hoped. However, is the .dat file produced by the backup encrypted with the same phrase as the wallet is? |

Say I experience following scenario:
1. I have made an address in my Bitcoin wallet and received some btc on it.
2. I make a backup and save it on a usb-stick.
3. I receive a new amount of btc - same address.
4. My computer falls out of window, 6th floor, into a fire (of worthless $ bills by the way..)
5. I get a new computer, install a new wallet.
Then what? Do I replace the .dat file that came with the new wallet with the one on my stick? Will I still have the btc's i received in the last transaction, before the mishap with the computer???

I use Bitcoin qt wallet v6.beta. I have encrypted with a word phrase i cosider safe. But what abot the backup? Is that .dat file also encrypted with the same phrase? And if so, can i keep this at a less safe place, like dropbox. How hard is it to crack a 9 word phrase?

I did'nt even think of adding fee - cause I sent some amounts before with zero fee, and it took just minutes. Anyway, I went to bed knowing that either the money would be there next day - or Bitcoin would have a serious problem. Guess what?  |

I made 50 BTC transfer, and after 2 hrs my wallet is saying 0 confirms. Makes me worry  I just have the unconfirmed [50]. Is this safe? |
