10021  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: block halving date on: December 03, 2015, 09:33:23 AM
don't worry about miners, they can take profit, even if the halving was going to enter tomorrow and the price was the same as it is right now

hum..
sorry...
i really don't understand this assertion.
but if you can explain me how it will be possilble, i will appreciate it.
Most miners usually have big farms with cheap electricity and space. Due to the operating cost, it doesn't take them too long to ROI. Even with the Bitcoin halving, their earnings would be halved at most. I believe that most of the miners would have already or close to reaching ROI. Most would probably not turn it off.

If the difficulty decreases by a huge percentage suddenly, the halving will come earlier and vice versa. These are nowhere accurate.

I know you say if, but the difficulty won't come down significantly. It will rather go higher than lower with the pools hoping to profit from the block halving rally that will come.

Domain.
10023  Economy / Speculation / Re: The manipulators on: December 02, 2015, 11:54:52 AM
I don't buy it because the market is a mess at the moment. I'm sorry to say it but bitcoin is a safe heaven for speculators of all sorts and as someone else said what they all care about is profit. Bitcoin for them it is just another game to pump their wallets with shorts and stop-losses. To me this is the main problem here

Do you think stock markets out there are any different?
Every market is getting manipulated. Just don't get fooled by the size of these markets.
Bigger markets have bigger manipulators. It's all rigged.

There is no difference. Each market where you can make money, is being manipulated. Indeed as you say, the bigger the markets they play in, the bigger the manipulators are. In Bitcoin a decent whale has probably $2-$3 million in total assets, which I mean as Bitcoin and fiat. Wealthy stock market traders play with hundreds of millions of Dollars, if not more.
10024  Economy / Economics / Re: Why do people keep saying BTC is dead?! on: December 02, 2015, 11:46:26 AM
I've actually never heard of people calling bitcoin dead. It's a thriving and brilliant community. Just take a look at this forum, for one. Not a question goes by unanswered.

Those people who can bitcoin dead have no idea of what they're talking about. That's like saying that dice there's a GFC, the world is dead. Things don't work that way. Prices fluctuate. They rise and fall.

People who say Bitcoin is failing and so on are newbies trying to double their money within 2 weeks, and if they don't get what they have hoped for, they blame Bitcoin and say it will fail, bla bla bla. Or they are either trolls.
10025  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-11-30] Bitstamp To Be Banned By Theymos For Supporting BIP 101 on: December 02, 2015, 11:37:46 AM
There is currently no need for a BIP 101 implementation as the 8MB blocksize is way too high and will lead to a dramatic-unnecessary increase of the blockchain size. The majority of the pools don't want the 8MB increase, isn't that enough reason to stop this nonsense?

Either way, the Core devs should come with a solution and that must be quick. This is not good for the community and the image of Bitcoin. I hope there will be a change to 2MB blocks as that is an appropriate midway solution to keep the people happy.
Blocks are not set at a given size, it is an 8MB maximum.  There will not magically be a huge number of 8MB blocks just because the maximum is raised.  Satoshi designed bitcoin without a maximum block size at all.  If it is unneeded, then blocks will remain below 1MB and it won't even matter.  When it is needed, the network will be ready for it instead of having this battle again when the 2MB boundary is getting pushed.  Making blocks 8MB as an attack would be incredibly expensive, just like most other attacks that don't happen IRL due to their cost.  Quite frankly, it seems obvious to me that the majority of anti-BIP101 users are running on fears propagated by a few people and groups who believe they can make more money if block sizes are kept lower (either by higher mining fees [vs more mining fees in bigger blocks] or by fees in their off-chain "solution" to the "problem").  IOW, the lack of 8 MB blocks and ongoing battle against them is as disgusting as the corporate politics in most "civilized" countries.

I do agree that it will have an impact on those who are trying to spam Bitcoin with massive amounts of shitty dust transactions. And it surely will make Bitcoin more future proof, but this whole discussion / keyboard fighting is splitting the community in 2 parts and will cause severe damage if there isn't a solution where both sides are happy with. Pools are maestro, and the majority of them clearly don't want BIP 101.

Why isn't it a better idea to raise the blocksize to 2MB for now, and then increase it with 1MB per year to keep up with the natural growth of Bitcoin?
10026  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New to bitcoin. What is most popular bitcoin wallet in the world? on: December 02, 2015, 11:20:14 AM
The most popular wallet ins't per se the best wallet. For me personally the best wallet is the Bitcoin Core client. I have been using the original client since the very beginning. One of the more important things of the wallet is that it allows me to run a full node.

10028  Economy / Speculation / Re: Warren Buffet advise not to buy bitcoin. Expect bitcoin price to collapse. on: December 02, 2015, 11:06:58 AM
Well, Buffet is known to be a value investor. He invest in things that have value per se, companies that sell good or services that backup the value invested. Bitcoin value is only in that people agree it has value. There are no physical things behind it. It is not strange that his opinion is this.

yeah I believe he doesn't even invest in any tech companies. So naturally something like bitcoin is far too much risk. But unfortunately he has a large following of people who respect his opinion and will never give bitcoin a second look because of his advice.

Warrent Buffet is an old fashion investor. To a certain extent he can predict what kind of growth his investments in traditional companies will realize. Bitcoin is something even the best investment guru can't predict right. It's either a wrong prediction, or a good one. 50% chance.

The current market cap of Bitcoin allows him to take a significant share in Bitcoin if he invests (for him) a relatively low amount of around $50 to $100 million in Bitcoin.

Look at him, the old man should stop worrying about investments and stuff. He needs to enjoy life and burn through his wealth by visiting hookers. What is life worth if you don't enjoy it with the wealth you have earned. These wealthy people are always looking for more. $40 billion must be $50 billion. After a while $50 billion must be $60 billion, and so on.
10029  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price rise is over on: December 02, 2015, 10:51:25 AM
Why is it a problem? It's a good moment for people to buy themself a few more coins if they haven't done it already. We have seen the price react exactly in the same way as when it was in the $2XX range. No difference.
10030  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Did you download the BTC blockchain for personal use ? on: December 01, 2015, 09:16:25 AM
I have installed the full blockchain on several devices in my house and it takes around 1 day to get the full blockchain on my HDD. I need the full blockchain as I like running a full node to support the network.

10032  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in 2015: Why did bitcoin fail? on: December 01, 2015, 08:53:35 AM
Bitcoin did great in 2015, and will perform even better in 2016! 2016 will be a more than interesting year as the block halving is drawing a lot attention from normal interested people and professional traders. Don't know why you even dare to mention the word fail in your title.
10033  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-11-30] Greece says hackers hit banks with bitcoin ransom demand on: December 01, 2015, 08:38:14 AM
Greece banks must be feeling threatened right now, right?  Cheesy Greece banks have been terrorizing their custommers for ages, and now the tide is turning, and put the banks in the position of their custommers. That's how it feels to worry constantly if your money is safe and you are not being screwed.

To a certain extent I don't care that these banks are being attacked, but it's not nice that their custommers are the ones who are actually going to pay the price for this. We'll see how this situation ends.
10034  Economy / Economics / Re: Passive Income on: December 01, 2015, 08:02:25 AM
I have bought a great domain more than a year ago where the initial purchase fee was quite high, but it gave me a great monthly return as far as advertisements goes. I managed to earn back the purchase fee after just over 8 months, and I am now earning an average of $30-$40 per month. I think I can consider this being a passive income.
10035  Economy / Speculation / Re: what is The reason behind new bubble in bitcoin price? on: December 01, 2015, 07:56:43 AM
Its annoying that even if bitcoin was used by terrorists that it would affect btc.
If a terrorist used gold to buy bombs would that matter? lets bad gold!

The terrorist used a ball point pen to send a letter omg ban them also! (a reach but you get the point)

Its just so annoying when people blame the wand and not the wizard.

Governments will grab anything to make Bitcoin look bad. It isn't the first time, and certainly won't be the last time. Terrorist can and do use anything with value to finance their bad activities. But only Bitcoin will be picked out, and threated like it's all Bitcoin's fault.
10036  Economy / Auctions / Re: [Domain] BitcoinBlockHalving.com on: December 01, 2015, 07:45:35 AM
0.02 Bid for this domain. Who would you prefer to use as an escrow? It should be someone with high trust.

You are the winner of the auction. I will be sending you a PM with information right now.

0.03 final bid.

You are just 7 minutes too late with your bid unfortunately. If the current winner Atomicat isn't completing the deal within 24 hours or backs off, I will contact you directly. Till that time I'll leave the thread open.
10037  Economy / Economics / Re: What's causing the run up in price $330-$380 right now? on: November 30, 2015, 12:35:05 PM
I think people are slowly buying up coins to benefit from the block halving rally, that they think will come soon. That plus the good sentiment are probably the reason behind this uptrend.

I know Chinese exchanges have a lot fake volumes on high volume days, but right now it's beyond insane. Huobi's 24H volume is sitting at 1.4 million and OKCoin 800K, while Bitstamp is only having a 14K volume. It's pure madness. Bitfinex is the only decent exchange that is able to somewhat keep up with their 24H volume sitting at 95K.
10038  Economy / Speculation / Re: what is The reason behind new bubble in bitcoin price? on: November 30, 2015, 12:25:34 PM
People simply don't care anymore about the shitty anti Bitcoin campaign from the media. I am happy to see that at this point people have become less impacted by news, be it good or bad news.

I think the current price is just mirroring the good sentiment at this point. All the shitty anti Bitcoin articles have had zero impact lately. Good job!
10039  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin-exchange on: November 30, 2015, 10:28:26 AM
For me the most important things to look for :

- An exchange have been operating for quite a long time in a successful manner.
- Easy and fast desposits and withdrawal of EUR, USD, BTC.
- Stable and responsive trading platform.
- Fees are quite important too.

All this makes Bitstamp my exchange of choise. As a second choice I am using BTC-E.
10040  Economy / Speculation / Re: Since you can't deposit/withdraw fiat on Bitfinex -How does it control the price on: November 30, 2015, 10:20:08 AM
I think the OP confused btc-e with bitfinex.

OP is not fully awake I guess. BTC-E allows you to deposit fiat into your account as well Smiley
