10121  Other / Meta / Re: what is the sense of Moderating this forum? on: May 18, 2014, 05:11:05 AM
Step 1 for the new forum should be BAN Totally BAN all known Scammers! Ip Ban

No, IPs change, youd have half the internet banned but still spammers.

Step 2 Either eliminate the signature or accept it No in BETWEEN because it's then left up to a Mod as to "Perceive" what is spam or not....if a MOD labels it spam and it causes a ban then the user bitches to the ADMIN who Doesn't answer.  If the mod overlooks it as spam people bitch about spam. this is a NO WIN situation remove the sig or keep it.

The sigs are accepted currently. But 50 "+1" posts are still spam, no matter the signature. I dont see your point here.

Step 3 The Admin should answer Questions or if he is too busy he should hire someone who can....simple as that

Mods are basically hired people who enforce the rules of the admin(s). I dont see your point here either. What better is an answer from theymos than it is from the people he trusts?

Step 4 Mods need to give reason to a ban when they ban or mute this would eliminate many many uneeded threads asking for answers.
just a few simple things could make it easier on the site and those who have to look after it.

They do, people just try to wiggle out of a ban.

P.S. my keyboard sucks and it types or omits letters as it sees fit.

You need a new keyboard.
10122  Other / Meta / Re: Activity & Post Count on: May 17, 2014, 03:41:32 PM
Sir, I see 112 posts but only 84 activity count. I think it has not been updated yet cause all my posts are simply spam-free. So hopefully my activity count should be updated.

Hence, I request the appropriate authority to take the correct decision.

#1 its not a technical issue, move it to meta
#2 activity is calculated only partly by post count see here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=177133.msg5106206#msg5106206
#3 activity and/or post count have nothing to do with the relevance of your posts. The server is unable to judge that anyway.
10123  Other / Meta / Re: Neg rep. Trust abuse. on: May 17, 2014, 11:43:16 AM
Yes, I would have liked to sell this account in a future, with some positive trust from the loans. I bought it "cheap" trying to flip it soon for more. You made it hard sincerely. It seems you don't like others make some BTC in the way they can. Buying and selling accounts is a honest way to earn BTC even if you don't agree.

Buying and selling accounts is not the problem here. As it was allready mentioned: you are trying to buy trust. Which Vod prevented to his abilities. If you are trading with someone that has an account labeled "Hero Member" - registered sometime 2010, would you trust that person more or less than a "Newbie" that registered last week?
Trust can not be bought, but only earned, can not be proven but only disproven.
10124  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Like to know about BTC mining on: May 17, 2014, 09:33:44 AM
less that 1$/Ghz

That makes no sense. Even if you are talking about 1$/GHASH/s. 1$ for what? Electricity? Hardwarecosts? Shipping?
10125  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Gridseed Blade Help on: May 17, 2014, 08:44:25 AM
Before you do all this, just hearing this.

Have you tried to contact them 1st? They seem to have a good record of keeping to deliver products.

Its also possible that DHL had someone open up packages or whichever they hand it to..cause that stuff happens as well and repackaged it.
Yeah, I have contacted them. That was the first thing I did when I found out. It's been 6 days so far and they seem to just keep saying "This has never happened." and "Please wait."
DHL states that the weight of the package that they measured is 2.5lbs and the weight I measured on a bathroom scale of the box was 2.0lbs. I am starting to think they stiffed me, unless an employee of DHL stole it and changed the weight in the system.

I dont understand why the weight matters here. They said they send you the miner, but it is not in the package when you received it.
You are btw allowed to check this the moment the package arrives. Just for the future. Even though the deliveryperson will sometimes tell you otherwise. It is your right to check the content of the package in front of the person who delivers it before you sign for it.
It is also not your responsibilty to track down the miner. It is allways the responsibilty of the person that has the contract with the deliverycompany (in this case DHL). Since you did not order DHL to deliver the package to you, it is the duty of zoomhash to take care of this. This can take several weeks, sometimes month. So a good partner will just send you a replacement and get the rest sorted out with DHL. Refund by weight will be 1 SDR per Kg, which currently is 1.54 USD ( http://www.imf.org/external/np/fin/data/rms_sdrv.aspx ). This will probably not happen since you should have a proof of value a bill or an order or similar. However DHL will not clear the loss with you as they have no contract with you.
10126  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Like to know about BTC mining on: May 17, 2014, 06:32:39 AM
I am new to BTC. I have heard that BTC mining is not profitable. I like to know more about BTC mining from experienced member.

It's almost not worth mining btc anymore unless you have terrahashing equipment. You should buy in to BTC hold some of it, wait for it to rise, and buy whatever you desire. Without transactions and sales bitcoin would just sit and possibly loose value, but you don't have to spend all that you buy.
Does a 12-Terrahash prototype count?

Lets say developing that thing cost you only 10,000 USD, you pay 0.1 USD per kW/H and your 12 TH/s prototype eats 6KW
Youd break even after ~51 days assuming 20% rise in difficulty.

Regarding OP. If you want to know whether mining is profiltable or not, do the calculation with one of the many calculators (e.g. https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator )
It greatly depends on your electricity cost. Some people claim they get free electricity (which I doubt is true), so any hardware can be profitable if you buy it cheap enough.

I can't get into my main account and the reset password doesn't work for some reason, who do I need to contact or what do I need to do to get my account back.

Regards

You have to contact theymos https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=35
and provide proof that it is your account. This usually works by signing a message with a private key to an address you posted with your locked account.

10129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Windows Defender detects DOS/Stoned in chainstate files on: May 16, 2014, 02:38:13 PM
So this is a false positive detection and the only work around is to exclude the \chainstate folder from virus scan?

Doesn't this seem like it creates a vulnerability?

I doubt it would as the data there should not get executet. Also the data just matches the signature of a virus thats not the same as the actual virus.
10130  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Upgrading to newer wallet? Anxious. on: May 16, 2014, 10:25:20 AM
I'm in no hurry. It's already Friday morning so anything I order won't ship untill after the weekend anyways. It sounds like the safest/sure thing is to just let my new QT client on my new windows profile finish syncing and then copying over the .dat file. I really appreciate the information quickly at this hour that you guys have given. And then once the blocks are synced, I would just close the program, paste the old .dat file over, restart Qt, and would be good to then send coins are payment?

Yep thats how it should work. I guess every other question has allready been answered by Light Smiley
10131  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Upgrading to newer wallet? Anxious. on: May 16, 2014, 09:45:58 AM
If he's on Qt I'm not sure whether he can actually send the coins until he's downloaded the blockchain and that might take a while since he's on the old version. Another option would be to export the private keys into a light client (ie Electrum) and use it instead - it's basically the same for most users except you don't have to download the whole blockchain (you aren't a full node). Or you could use it to send it to one of your deterministic addresses and not have to worry about having to backup as long as you have your seed.

QT will need a full blockchain to send coins, true. The way I understood OP is that he allready has a fully updated QT and just wants to migrate from there. This corruption part has me worried though, not sure if just changing your user profil is doing any good.
10132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Windows Defender detects DOS/Stoned in chainstate files on: May 16, 2014, 09:43:10 AM
I think somebody introduced a virus code in the blockchain ..

But I'm not sure if it is possible ?

Its possible and it has been done. In fact it allready has been done a long time ago in the testnet.
See here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=554738.0
where on of the devs talks about it. This also links to a swedish board where this is discussed.

Also getting a positive for Virus:DOS/Stoned, but in Bitcoin\chainstate\285512.sst, from Microsoft Security Essentials.

Running Windows 7.

I believe I've also seen threads about this before, trying to dig up the relevant information...

10133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Upgrading to newer wallet? Anxious. on: May 16, 2014, 09:35:39 AM
Thanks for the quick reply - I do still have access to the old windows user and can start up the old wallet. I already backed up to wallet.dat onto a USB drive. I am not familiar with copying the private keys, and I will learn how to do that now. You say I would be fine just copying the old .dat file into the new %appdata%bitcoin on my current windows profile? Also, do I have to wait untill the new clients blocks sync up before I can paste the older .dat file?

You can close bitcoin core at any time and replace the existing wallet.dat. You can make a backup first, just in case, but it should be empty as it was just created.

To shorena - Both windows profiles are on the same computer, I do not plan on using a new computer any time soon. However I really do not trust my old windows profile as it went corrupt at one point.

So its just a different user profile? Not sure I understand the benefit of changing your profile.
What kind of corruption are you talking about? Trojan? Defected data?
10134  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Upgrading to newer wallet? Anxious. on: May 16, 2014, 09:30:39 AM
If this is going on on two seperate computers Id just setup the new one and transfer all coins from the old wallet into the new one. This might cost you a little bit of fees, but the chances of a slip up are minimal.

If this however has to happen on the same machine do as Light suggested or do both. You can dump the keys, write them down somewhere safe (encrypted file on a usb stick) and still copy the wallet.dat. Better safe than sorry Wink

10136  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I am not really a newbie , but I have a few newbie questions :P on: May 15, 2014, 02:54:48 PM
OK I was wondering about Encryption, multiple offline wallet apps but same BTC wallet address and access...

So basically I have Multibit & Bitcoin CORE as my main wallets, I also have electrum which I hardly use anymore and I also have a laminated card I made with the wallet and the Private key and a USB with my keys , wallet.dats etc.....

Questions -

1. Is Multibit as safe as Bitcoin-Core? if not why not.... I heard electrum has its own servers so if they are down your money is locked in there unless you have another wallet to access this wallet right???

I doubt that there is a significant difference between Multibit and Bitcoin core regarding security. But to answer this question properly one would have to study the source of both clients, which I did not.
With Electrum you still have your wallet and thus your private keys on your machine, so you can still access your coins if they go south (or north or anywhere for that matter). This would require another programm where you can import your private keys to, yes.

2. I am guessing the private key for a certain address is exactly the same no matter where you retrieve it, whether, electrum, Multibit or bitcoin-CORE?? I also have an Electrum Seed, what is this and why is this needed if I have a passphrase.

Correct. The Electrum seed is a way to reduce the chance of you messing up. Randomness is a difficult thing to implement, so this seed will make sure that you will generate the exact same private keys. Electrum basically assumes that the initial seed is enough randomness to ensure that the private keys you get will not be the private keys of someone else. Since their seed is 128 bit the chances of a collision are indeed very slim.

3. If I have 2 wallets open on my computer using the same wallet address , is there any upside or downside to this? I personally find it easier and less confusing having one main wallet.

Downside: it costs CPU time and memoryspace
Upside: I dont know why you would need two different wallets at the same time, esp. if they are controlling the same addresses.

4.  This is how I have protected my wallet address>>>>>>>>>> I have Both wallet apps encrypted with a passphrase I also have a paper wallet and A backup on my USB. Anything else?

You probably have the wallet files encrypted. Encrypting the "apps" does nothing.
Paper wallet sounds good depending on the way of creation (e.g. brainwallets are bad).
Backup on USB is fine, but those drives might fail as well. You maybe want to make more than 1 backup, just in case and depending on the amount of coins you have.
You could engrave a private key somewhere Wink

I also like n of m paperwallets. Where you need e.g. any 3 of 5 paperwallets to restore the private key. This allows for several secure places without a single point of failure.

5. If I forgot my walletphrase from one walletAPP , BUT I rememeber the passphrase in my OTHER wallet app, Both these apps are the SAME exact btc wallet address, does this mean I can access my coins from the app that I remember the passphrase for and I can just delete the wallet app which I forgotten, possibly re-install the app then import the private key and make a new password which should then give me back access to that same wallet??

Yes. You have the same private keys stored twice, as long as you access one you can spend your coins asoiated with the private key.

I dont get how this works. Eg; Multibit wallet address 1122 = forgot passphrase cannot access coins ------Bitcoin core wallet address 1122 = Remember passphrase means I can access the coins that were stuck in the multibit wallet. Does this mean I can NEVER use multibit ever again for this wallet? or by re-installing I can create a new pass?

I assume its the same address and thus the same private key. If you forgot the password you can export the private key from bitcoin core into a new multibit wallet and be fine. Just make sure there are no other addresses. You need the private key for each address in order for this to work.

ONE LAST QUESTION -

I would like to have my bitcoin wallet on my phone, Is there a way to link my wallet to my phone for example if I am out somewhere and I decide to spend some bitcoin but I forgot to transfer some funds to my phone wallet, how do I access my main wallet?

Same as with other wallets as long as the phone has access to the same private keys your computer has you can spend the same coins. Id rather not do this though, since phones are easily lost/stolen etc.

I think its just easier to use your main wallet everywhere Just like having 1 bank account ##, You access this account from an ATM, Computer, Phone app, Telephone Etc etc.... All links to the same bank account... I want to try do this with my BTC address, For now I will use my Computers and my Phone Smiley

To each unique address there is a unique private key that can be copied as ofter as you want. See e.g. this famous address:
https://blockchain.info/de/address/1JwSSubhmg6iPtRjtyqhUYYH7bZg3Lfy1T
the private key is derived from the phrase "correct horse battery staple" and thus 1000s of people have the private key. Everyone of them can spend the coins that go to that address. If you have some spare and are in a fun mood, send some there and watch how fast they try to get it elsewhere Smiley

I hope I could answer your questions. If you have more feel free to ask.
10137  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin faucets on: May 15, 2014, 02:15:17 PM
Primedice is your best bet.

https://www.primedice.com

There is a free bet link on there to claim 250 satoshi's every few minutes

Well I like primedice -not just because they pay for my posts Wink - but thats not true. I personally get 1000 satoshi, not sure why. Maybe because I lost enough money there Smiley

But the big mistake here is that you give the impression that you can "earn" money from PD. You can only claim the free satoshi if you have no coins left. And in order to get a payout you need over 0.0001 BTC or 10,000 Satoshi because they substract the minersfee of 0.0001 from your winnings.

Nope, you don't need to worry about me, but it's nice knowing you care that much that you're counting. I always find it ironic and hypocritical when people complain about this, especially comparing my recent posts to yours you'll see mime are either roughly the same length or longer than yours, so you obviously just have a problem with the number I do for whatever petty reasons, but well done for taking this off topic.

Not sure if this is off topic or not, since it fits somehow. In the past I saw several of these now banned people and thought: wow they post a lot but its so ...slim. Its mostly just a sentence or even worse: an answer that -while sometimes correct- was allready given. With you however I think you honestly try to help people and I dont think how this can be considered spam.
My rule of thumb is: write first and when done, read again and think: is this necessary? Sometimes I write a long post and dont even post it, because its enough that I wrote it, but it wont help anyone if I post it.

http://eligius.st/~gateway/faq-page

"Transactions without a fee will be processed based on confidential anti-spam testing."

Ja, die prüfen ob das Spam ist und dann akzeptieren sie auch Überweisungen ohne Gebühren.
