-snip-
The amount of bandwidth it is using is increasing over time, maybe it takes the network some time to trust a new node and give its IP out?
-snip-

Either that or the nodes are allready up to date. Since the connections are fine, Id let it run for a day or two and see how the traffic is.

Edit: if you want, send me the IP via PM or post it here. Im currently at work, but when Im home and start bitcoin core it will need to update at least 10 hours worth of blocks. I can set it up so that its only using your IP, which would result in a traffic spike on your end and I can leave you a msg if the dl worked.

I have not purchased a router but ofc there is a router somewhere between me and the internet, do you think the hosting provider might throttle the traffic or something?

There is nothing to NAT that I have purchased, again I'm sure there is some-ware between my VM and the internet. It is uploading constantly at roughly 20 kbit/s but that might be my SSH sessions, there is nothing else on this server apart from bitcoind

Ok, just checking. ~2,5kb/s sounds indeed like ssh. I assume you tested the port with nmap or something like that.

Code:
netstat -anp
or
Code:
ss -atp

shows the 21 connections?

10185  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: New Server Node not uploading (max 23 connections) on: May 10, 2014, 01:39:44 PM

There is no firewall infront of the server, only iptables.

No router or NAT device just "pure" internet?

10187  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How lucky Is my brother on: May 10, 2014, 10:31:34 AM
-snip-
You can find the target on blockexplorer.
https://blockexplorer.com/q/hextarget

Thats great! Thanks.

The following contains several errors, see the hint from Flashman and my correction below.

So the current target in hex is 0x0000000000000000896C00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
which is 1.00010010110112×2191 according to wolframalpha

Since the hash has to be lower than the target, the first 256-192* = 64 bits must be 0

So the basic chance to get a valid hash is 264/2256 = 1/2192 if we consider all hashes the be equal likely and equally distributed.

Next step is to get the number of tries OPs brother (OPB) had with the given hardware and time.

-snip-nividia 660M geforce gtx-snip-
-snip-1 day

It was posted that this would be 90MH/s

At around 90MH/s -snip-

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison
Does not list a GTX 660 M, but it lists an overclocked GT650M with 27.4 MHash/s
According to NVidia the GTX660M has the same amount of cores as the GT650M and slightly less clock speed, so I think 27.4 MH/s is more likely than 90MH/s. To be honest 27.4 is probably to high, but we will go with that.

So 27.4 MH/s * 24*60*60 = 2,367,360 Hashes total in 24 hours

The rest is basic binomial distribution. So we have an experiment with a 1/2192 chance of success and repeat that ~ 2.3 million times, while 1 is successfull. Since these numbers are considered small (chance) and large (number of times repeated) we can use a poisson approximation and dont have to do all the annoying binoms.

L (Lambda) = 1/2192 * 3,367,360 ~ 3.77*10-52
k = 1 (1 Block)

Thus the chance for OPB to hash a block with the given hardware and time is:

((3.77*10-52)1 * e-3.77*10-52)/1!
= ((3.77*10-52) * e-3.77*10-52)
= approx 3.77 * 10-52

Thats (if we round a lot) 1 in 1053 or 1 in 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

-snip-your luck (chances) is about 1 in 4.4 Million.

Not even close

-snip-
something more in the range of 600 million to one
-snip-

Nope

How does it compare to the odds of winning the powerball lottery?

(1 in 175 million)

Winning the powerball lottery is 100 Tredecillion more likely.

Yeah, I have no comparisson for that either.

Disclaimer, even though I was very carefull with every caluclation and my sources I might have made mistakes.

* Added another bit since its an estimate anyway and target > 12*2191

tl;dr math magic reveals OP's brother had a chance of

1 in 1053 or 1 in 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
or 1 in 100 Sexdecillion

Cant argue with that numbername Cheesy

Consider to include www.CoinLearn.org, if u have not yet.

So you are still active...

Where are the payments?
Why dont you respond to posts in your forums?

@OP Do not add coinlearn currently. He didnt pay the last payment and is at least a week overdue
10189  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the easiest way to get Bitcoin in Spain? on: May 09, 2014, 07:04:49 PM
Hello World  Cheesy

welcome Smiley

-snip-
First what is the easiest way to get bitcoins in Spain without linking your bank accounts etc.

Meet in person, pay cash. If you are in madrid or another major city this should be no problem. You can either find people on this board or via localbitcoins (use their escrow service!).

I was thinking of buying ukash vouchers and exchanging it online for bitcoin.

Ukash has been used in the past for ransomware so it should provide reasonable anonymity, but someone will have to go first. So this would require escrow to be safe, which adds complexity.

Is this safe and if so what sites are trusted for the exchange. There are a ot of sale points selling ukash vouchers here at any amount you want so this makes it easier for me.

I dont know of any exchanges that accept ukash. The big ones usually only accept traditional payment after a time and money consuming verificationproccess. This proccess however is usually a one time deal, so if you plan to buy more in the future this might give you the security you want. If I understand you correctly you also want anonymity though, which no exchange I know of provides. They are usually bound by money laundry laws.

Second, I made an account at blockchain.info and got everything setup to receive my bitcoins if I buy then eventually is this the best place to enable sending and receiving at low charges?

Thanks

Receiving is allways free of charge. When sending bitcoin you should include a little payment (currently 0.0001 per 1kb) called miners fee. With some wallets or accounts you can reduce this fee or skip it entirely, but there are many people complaining about their transactions taking several days. These people usually paid a very low or no miners fee. So if you want to send fast, tip the miners Wink

Blockchain.info is a reasonable wallet for beginners since it is realitvly easy to handle, does not require you to download the whole blockchain, but still leaves you in charge of your private keys (they allow you to spend your coins). Make sure you have a strong password and use 2fa.

10190  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What's an 'offline' transaction? on: May 09, 2014, 03:55:32 PM
Dont know, but they are all confirmed at least once according to blockchain.info

https://blockchain.info/address/1MK3mrp4sNdspJno4recr4cVh12YrJ1AEN

Edit: found it in the source

Code:
Offline,            /**< Not sent to any other nodes **/

here

https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/97f2bbd7530aeaf661bd19a18039cc29c2ab6aec/src/qt/transactionrecord.h#L31

which makes no sense, since you can see it on blockchain.info (which basically is just a node). Mabye try a restart.

I dont people have countlessly said league, so I`m going to agree with them.

Its a fun gun game to play.

league of legends
guns

what

Thats the only thing you find strange about that post?

What about "I dont people have ..."?

Anyway btt:

Currently doing my ranking in CS:GO and I noticed that the gold star ranks* play more with AWP when they have money, while the Master ranks barely play AWP. I think its because of the higher aiming skill of the masker ranks and their ability to 1 shot people with "normal weapons" (AK, DEagle, M4, etc.) as good as with AWP. I also notice that master ranks are less abusive regarding "noobs".

Anyone else got the feeling that the higher skill levels are nicer and more willing to help you?

10192  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How lucky Is my brother on: May 09, 2014, 11:57:27 AM
At around 90MH/s, your luck (chances) is about 1 in 4.4 Million.

Really?  I would think it to be a lot more... like 1 in 100 million or something.

Guess the brother was just lucky... or this whole topic is just a lie and has no use whatsoever.

1 in 4.4 Million sounds indeed wrong. I would like to do a proper calculation to see the chances.
Looks like binomial distribution with a x/2256 chance and MH repetitions per second * time in seconds mining with 1 success, which is easy to calculate if you know X. The problem I have is that X depends on the number of bits that have to be 0 and I dont know how to get them from the difficulty, since the difficulty value is usually given as an integer (e.g. 8,000,872,136)

I could buy 50 of those USB Devices that give 2000mh/s, 50x2000mh/s makes 100gh/s or am i wrong ?

If you are serious about mining, use a calculator befor you invest. Not only do you have to think about the price of the hardware and the cost of electricity, but also about the price of bitcoin and the changing difficulty.

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator

This can help you and you will probably figure out very fast, that there is no way to make profit unless you invest a lot of money and have very cheap electricity.

hey so i posted a link to a site i found that gives free bitcoins in the gambling subreddit and the mod there decided that i was scamming people $1million ?? this was completely disproportionate, at most i was posting in the wrong forum.

Mod? Who are you talking about?
Also, I don't see any trust feedback on you at all. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=98896

Btw, the trust system is unmoderated AFAIK.

This would probably best handled via reddit. Not sure how you can expect help concerning a reddit ban here.

10196  Other / Meta / Re: Locked out of my account... Please help! on: May 09, 2014, 09:32:38 AM
You need to provide proof of ownership* and contact theymos (with proof only!) in order to get back into your account.

If you can provide no proof, dont even bother contacting theymos.

Edit:
* e.g. take the address in your profile 14ZmoAKQaZZcZtBTmYbr4nEhatrA4ozvA3
and sign a message with the private key belongig to it.

Edit2: this one might be even better, since its on of the oldest you posted

Howdy all,

Welcome Smiley

-snip-
Holy... SHIT. I can't believe how hard it is to put AUD money into Bitcoins. I saw an Aussie exchange, and they happily take my money, the love that part. But they can't convert them into Bitcoins... what the fuck? What the hell was the point? At least they gave it back when I withdrew it (and I knew he lived 1/2 hr from me so I would've gone over with a bat if he didn't).

So - here I am the last couple of days in my long fruitful adventure, and looked to btc-e.com as the exchange of choice, and seen what providers it accepts for payment. Checked them all out but bloody hell... You go to their site, they're like 'we're awesome, we take money from you and put it over there, like a baws'. Then you go to sign up, OH NAH MATE, CAN'T TAKE IT UNLESS YOU SEND IT FROM THESE OTHER FUCKERS FIRST.

You might skip exchanges in generall and use localbitcoins (meet in person/use wire transfer they provide escrow) or meet with someone you meet here.

What the hell.. Since when was it so hard to give people my money?
So I found Payeer because they actually accept CC directly, that site's written in fucking Russian. Their error messages, email correspondence they send you, half Russian half English. Google translate is my friend. So here I am translating what the fuck these support guys are saying to me regarding 'verification' and I guess I've come this far so I'll go through with the process soon enough. At some spots you can translate it but their emails are fun to translate when they're in Russian.

I dont know, that doesnt sound good to me.

So about 20-30 hours of reading and thus far I only have 4 Dogecoins to my name thanks to a faucet I found... other than that, not worth shit!

So you can poke fun if you like, or if you know of any recent ways AUD can be converted into Bitcoin let me know. I saw a few posts regarding that already but some seemed aged or the sites in question no longer operate.
Any recent info welcome! If you read this far, you must be very bored.

Exchanges are usually a bit of a pain and wont tons of materials (proof of residency, etc.). So as I wrote above, meet in person, exchange directly. You might not get the best rates, but you can get your coins fast and secure (use escrow).

I am trying to find the answer to this:

How can I find the private and public keys associated with the addresses on my Bitcoin Core Wallet?

To get the private key to a known address open the console and enter dumpprivkey <bitcoinaddress>
You need to unlock it first, full list of commands is here:

there are also more lengthy answers here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=598078.0

I found an old wallet.dat file which I believe to contain between 2-4 btc from a couple of years ago. lost password. I cant remember for the life of me what the pw is. can anyone help?

If you had a reasonable strong password and remember nothing about it, your chances are almost 0.
If you however have some idea what the password might look like you might get the wallet unlocked with some tools.

For more info see this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=85495.0

It is discussed there and there are links to scripts and tools that might help you.

I am absolutely new to bitcoin maybe 24 hrs old lol, I've joined a Pool and created a Worker, and have also installed the Bitcoin core software. Apon creating an account for the worker i need to put in a Bitcoin Address, i know its a long set of digits but where do i get it from? any help wouild be appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome young one Wink

WIthin Bitcoin core there is menu item that is called "receiving addresses" there is a list of your addresses and you can make a new one any time. But you should not mine bitcoins directly unless you have powerfull ASICs. Mining with CPU / GPU is a waste of time / electricty nowadays.
