Factor in perceptions of rarity. It's rare that it's this low. Hence a lot will buy the further it goes down. Add into that more people jumping on the train. Smiley

It's rare that the price is this low? When you did start looking at bitcoin, less than 2 months ago? Low is 500, we are still above average at 900..... for now.

I wish these companies accepting bitcoin would give customers a percentage off when using bitcoin. They are saving fees from their regular payment processors and paypal etc, so why not pass some savings to the customer. Then there would not be this talk of these companies not having a positive impact on bitcoin. I know they are essentially spreading the word, but has anyone bought bitcoin for the first time just to buy from these companies that accept bitcoin?

This is a key reason to buy the rumor, sell the news. You never know how short the peak will be once news like this is out, as we have seen.

Want to bet for a box of cigars that it won't go below $500 this year? ( edit: Mt.Gox price )

Do you get cigars for free? Or do you just like wasting money? lol

Funny how all these chinese news always come at a critical point for the market.

Great observation.  And who made this news?
+1. The Chinese seem to be playing puppet master over everyone now not just their own sheep (I mean people)! I kinda wish they would just get out of btc as they're screwing up a good thing!

BTC price should be heading north on the current good news overstock, newegg, new atm's etc.......

what the newegg news?

A friend of mine that frequents overclock.net forums told me he read Newegg was thinking of accepting BTC. They are even selling mining kits now, so this would not surprise me. Let me text him and see if he can link me to any news.

Newegg mentioned that they might accept Bitcoin in a tweet a few months ago.  That's the only peep I've heard about it.

1025  Economy / Speculation / Re: China might be a bigger issue than I thought on: January 13, 2014, 03:00:58 AM
Did China ban the USE of bitcoin? Why would you not be able to pay your suppliers in bitcoin?

Would the use of a system like Bitpay not be allowed in China, even if they ban bitcoin altogether?  Since the person on the China side only receives fiat from Bitpay, they would never even see the bitcoin.

Bizarre story of a penny stock gold company switching to bitcoin mining and to develop an exchange; claim to have 550k bitcoins already!!  Huh

http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-1074434?ref=feeds/latest

Pump and Dump?  Wink

Another bitcoin related pennystock having a good day:
http://www.bloomberg.com/quote/MYRY:US

1) Create Bitcoin-related company and issue penny stocks.
2) ?
3) Profit.

And that actually works! Smiley

I would like to see them sign a message saying they own 550K coins from an address that has 550K BTC in it.

Which will not happen.

I skimmed through the last few pages but couldn't find anything new. We're going down because people still panic about that huobi account thing?

There is no buying pressure. So after our new "Weekend Buyer(s)" is done, we go back down.

Unless you can move the market yourself...... then good luck!

I'm sure some people have profited, but I'm sure more people have lost.

I lost. I would learn to trade alt coins if I tried it all over again. Buying and selling bitcoin for profit is not easy.

What do squares smell of?

I see whales, trains and too the moon.

Well, mb300sd does. I sure do not.
1032  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The official MacMiner thread [BTC/LTC-CPU/GPU/FPGA/ASIC] on: January 12, 2014, 11:58:41 PM
Just switched over to MacMiner and loving it. Using MobileMiner as well and everything is working like a charm. Just wanted to thank you!
Awesome, thanks for letting me know! Now I need to figure out what's going wrong for other people Smiley

I don't want to give you any false information here, so what I mean by working is that MobileMiner shows all my devices, and the speeds they are running at correctly. I had it already set up from when I was using Asteroid, so I just put in my key in MacMiner. BUT, I cannot use the start, stop and restart buttons in MobileMiner.

Is that the problem others are having, or worse?
1033  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 12, 2014, 11:51:58 PM

3. I can't sleep at night when all my money is in BTC, but I can when it's in fiat.

Stop loss orders work for me.

Doesn't work for me. I'd rather let the market run rather then not making an informed decision while I'm asleep. I think there in lies the problem. I just care too much when my money is in BTC and have to check charts, price, FUD, every minute. I'm not 100% fiat obviously. Just enough that I'm not forced to check 24/7.

Hodling until the days of an extremely high price, or a time when volatility is extremely low, will be well worth the stress involved.

If you are a day trader, then the stress is part of the job with this market.

I might be the first person to go bald due to stress caused by bitcoin lol. I had 95% of my savings in bitcoin by the end of February, so I've been on a hell of a ride since then (currently dissolved).
1034  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is having 1 bitcoin like having a lottery ticket? on: January 12, 2014, 11:46:51 PM
The difference with BTC and the lottery.

The lottery has a date at which a winner will be anounced. Bitcoin allows you to cash out at any time.
The lottery gives NO insite into your winning state. Bitcoin shows the value of your investment at any time.
In a lottery you either win or loose. With bitcoin you can get richer or poorer. Losing all or winning all are the only two possibilities that are nearly impossible.
etc.

What the OP might be trying to ask is if bitcoin can go both ways (to da moon or into the earths core).
The simple answer is YES bitcoin can go up or down just as easily. Statisically chances are higher that it will go to $0 but due to market adoption belief is that it will go much higher.

Bitcoin is more like religion than the lottery.
You read everything there is to know and still there is no certainty. It's all down to faith and personal investment Smiley

Set a win at ( > $100k/coin) and a loss at ( < $1000/coin).  Pick at arbitrary date between 5 and 50 years out.  Check for win/loss on this date.  In this case however, if one of your tickets wins, they all win, and if one loses, they all lose.  I think the primary objection people have to the lottery analogy is they believe the chances of winning are much better than the lottery.  I actually think the chances of implosion are higher than the chances of stratospheric gains within our lifetimes, but maybe only by 2:1 odds or so (obviously just a gut feeling - bitcoin methods of success are clear, methods of failure are not).  In any event, this makes the expected value of one of these lottery tickets quite high ..

In what price USD to you declare "stratospheric gains"?  Is 15,000% in 2 years not enough?
1035  Economy / Speculation / Re: Confirmed Bad News Sources Thread - No FUD, Just Facts!!!1 on: January 12, 2014, 11:09:22 PM
Bitcoin will never go to 0. I can guarantee that.

I'll buy every coin for .0001 USD each, put them back on the order book and wait for a resurrection.

In other news, I do see cheap coins coming before the 31st.
1036  Economy / Speculation / Re: Warning: Huobi has closed their personal bank accounts system on: January 12, 2014, 11:04:50 PM
Bears scream bad news, bulls scream that bears are spreading FUD and the news is actually good news.

The fact that accounts have to opened and closed, is BAD NEWS no matter which way you think about it.

China gov't will have their way with this soon.

1038  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ghash.io has voluntary to suspend parts of service! on: January 12, 2014, 10:17:04 PM

Buying time is what they are doing. Nothing more. Until on the 4th of february every private miner gives up on them because they ask valid IDs and who wants to give up on his privacy and trust them with their IDs?

I read the TOS and nothing was mentioned about ghash.io, only cex.io. I also saw nothing about mining, or valid IDs. Do you have a link to your info?
1039  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fork The Blockchain And Block The Seized FBI Coins. on: January 12, 2014, 10:05:52 PM
Horrible idea. Millions of coins would be sold due too not trusting the "most trusted system"... This would do more harm than good.

Would you sell in person? If so, where are you located?
