Please dont be down on CI. This was well intentioned.
Asking an absurd premium ($450 for 2 oz), and making only a single coin available to the collectors is "well intention"?

But I know there are many not seeing it that way. This was just a misjudgement, nothing more.
Update: Okay, I'm out of this thread completely. There have been so many fallacies, such as classic ad hominem (to specialized forms such as poisoning the well), false assumptions, hasty generalizations, straw man arguments and so on (not to mention the false knowledge regarding the trust system). This is really intelligence damaging. That said, I'm looking forward to see how CI will make up for this *misjudgment*.
10202  Other / Meta / Re: Account farming. Allowed? on: October 24, 2016, 12:25:24 PM
Thanks Lauda,
You're welcome.

You'd have to take that up to Cyrus and Theymos.
Do I really have to do that? it is pretty clear they dont give a crap, or they have me on ignore.
Seem's a bit daft creating another thread, just to be ignored again.
Theymos is usually too busy and overwhelmed by PMs to respond. You should try discussing the situation and options with Cyrus.

User search disabled...
Search for members work, just the 'display all members page' isn't.

No input from admin/global's..
There's only 1 active global moderator at this time (hilariousandco) and they did respond here I think? They are also helping tackle spam elsewhere. I respond here often as I'm very strict regarding spam and as a patroller, there's only so much to do during the day.
10203  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [ANN]Crypto Imperator "Anniversary" coin 2 Troy Oz. .999 Fine silver on: October 24, 2016, 11:11:26 AM
Where is the list of the 9 people that *got* offered and *bought* these coins? I'm pretty sure that not all of them want to remain private, so might as well let us know (otherwise the story can't be verified at all).
10204  Other / Meta / Re: Account farming. Allowed? on: October 24, 2016, 11:00:05 AM
So am I assured "they are all banned"? No, they clearly weren't/aren't.
The bot is based on account creation patterns and posting patterns. Obviously there are going to be patterns that haven't been discovered/added to the bot.

Can we have a serious explanation on "nuking" being different to banning?
Again, nuking (only applies to newbies or brand new): Permanent ban + IP ban + deletion of all posts + clearing of profile. Ban: Permanent ban + clearing of profile.

We (researchers) really need to be able to see who is/is not banned.
You'd have to take that up to Cyrus and Theymos.

Heavy account farmers are by default sig spammers. I am not interested in non farmed sig spammers - different issue.
Which is a bigger issue IMO and that's why the other reports should be moved onto another thread, as they tackle a different issue. Dormant backlink bots aren't causing any *real harm*.
10205  Other / Meta / Re: Account farming. Allowed? on: October 24, 2016, 10:22:10 AM
down to
Code:
fiza

Code:
Tampa
Handled both of these. I think that you should create your own thread as this is different than the intended accounts being reported. These are usually spambots (backlink spam and whatnot), while OP started reporting sig. spammers and heavy account farmers.

This thread is too big as it is.
10206  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [CONTEST UPDATE] Send us a photo of ANY collectible to win a 1BTC coin on: October 24, 2016, 09:33:09 AM
B.     2 BTC off the purchase of a 2015 or 2016 25 BTC ("pre-halvening")...
The second link ('2016') is dead.

Only a week left before the photo contest ends! Submit a photo of *ANY* bitcoin collectible to get the chance to win a One Bitcoin Mint collectible!
Concerns from your T&S:
Quote
6.    By submitting a photo in this contest, you grant BTCC a royalty-free nonexclusive right, in perpetuity, to share the photograph on the BTCC website and the following social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
10.  By submitting a photo in this contest, you agree to BTCC's use of your first name and city and country of residence for promotional purposes.
This is too much IMO, and I'm pretty sure that quite a number of people have not read this.
10207  Other / Meta / Re: Account farming. Allowed? on: October 24, 2016, 09:16:57 AM
Almost all have email details in the MSN section that fit into the same pattern as above, so they haven't been "Nuked" - I'd prefer it if they were all deleted which is an option in "Simple Machines Forum"
This option is not available to any kind of moderator I believe. The administrators are likely the only one with access to it (if it exists). The best that moderators can do is 'nuke' and that seems pretty adequate.
10208  Other / Meta / Re: Account farming. Allowed? on: October 24, 2016, 06:18:17 AM
Ah ok, so they just show up as "brand new", so now we can find them and someone may have already done something?
This is usually used just to combat spam that does get reported. Obviously moderators don't have time to keep track of each and every registered member. If the profile page is not clean, that still may not mean that they are not banned (this change happened sometime in 2016 IIRC). I'd tackle that MMM spam, but 30k accounts is overkill for a single patroller. I've looked into this a bit, there are some people with higher ranks still posting with that.

If you find some other patterns with reasonable quantities (maybe under 1k accounts) you can PM me directly.
10209  Other / Meta / Re: Account farming. Allowed? on: October 24, 2016, 06:12:35 AM
What exactly does Nuked mean?
Permanent ban + IP ban + removal of all profile information. Patrollers are able to nuke newbies, administrators and some global moderators are able to apply temporary and permanent bans to all members.

She killed them with nuclear weapons. (or warmed them up in the microwave)
Or it could mean this. I may be a cat wielding nuclear weapons.
10210  Other / Off-topic / Re: AGD's ignore list extreme on: October 24, 2016, 06:12:00 AM
Haha fuck you, I am on ignore list because I am giving a FREE tutorial for newbies?
It happens. I was also on DannyHamiltons list for a while in 2015 until they've read some quoted input from me.

Maybe I thought you were spamming and I was wrong or maybe you caught Dannies attention with your wording?
This is why it's hard to keep a track of big lists. It would be much better to ban the blatant spammers in the first place.
10211  Other / Meta / Re: Account farming. Allowed? on: October 24, 2016, 06:07:54 AM
Code:
%title%
in the "website" nets us three pages of Zombie Alts TM
I've just nuked all of them. They seem to be linking to weird websites, although I've found no malware on them (Example - click on your own risk). A fair number of them were proxybanned as well. A few were banned, but bans didn't remove profile information in the past.

Not one of the sixty five %title% UID's has been active since registering...
That's usually how standard bots operate on this forum, the difference is that these do not post but spam via profile information.
10212  Other / Meta / Re: Account farming. Allowed? on: October 24, 2016, 05:05:33 AM
There are one thousand, one hundred and seventy-three pages of members with the "website"

Code:
MMM Global

in their profile...

((1,172 X 30) + 22 = 35,182 )
Those were (or are) spam and were usually nuked on sight (after they posted). After realizing that, some probably kept registering without posting. If you can compile a list of links, we could nuke them relatively easy[1] (even though they aren't/won't cause harm).

Update: [1] Re-read the post and realized it's 35 thousand.
10213  Economy / Services / Re: [OPEN] | Bitmixer.io Signature Campaign | Earn up to 0.035 BTC/week on: October 23, 2016, 08:25:48 PM
^ Self contradictory? If there are no minimum, then I'm OK to make just 1 post/week. How do I divide one post over multiple section and avoid being classed as 'short burst'?
No, it is not self contradictory. The meaning behind this statement is that you should post all around the forum, e.g. do not make that 1 post constantly in the same section. Short bursting would be classified as posting almost all the 'to-be-counted' posts within a day or two.
Update: Adjusted it slightly.

Is there any unofficial, expected number of posts/week?
No. You're fine to not post for some periods. You're not likely going to get banned if you have made constructive posts, but have been inactive for a while.

1. How will you determine quality of non-English posts (other than disallowed Indonesian board)?
Google translate and length of posts is adequate to rule out the first line of obvious spammers. A step above that is getting help from acquaintances from the respective local section.

2. What about somewhat controversial 'Press' board, which generally is for sharing press hits. Every new topic is just copy/paste content - these are constructive (that's what that board is for) but don't require any personal input. Is it counted?
All posts are counted automatically upon the rule set mentioned above. That said, if I see someone abusing the Press section (constantly posting articles to get paid), they're likely going to get banned.

Will you be looking for a reasons to ban any posters who openly criticise Core/Blockstream/BTCtalk censorship (constructive criticism, no name-calling)?
I don't care about the nature of the post as long as it is constructive. 'Name-calling', 'FUD spreading (e.g. "Segwit is an altcoin")' is likely not going to be acceptable. Any kind of constructive criticism with at least some truthfulness is *welcome* (this goes for any kind of topic being discussed).

Maybe it's just me, but I find snipping post's content (and deleting said post) and then publicly replying to it in rather strong tone as a bit rude (not to say power-abusing).
It was just a huge pile of AD hominem, due to them getting banned.
10214  Other / Meta / Re: Proactive fighting with spammers. Doing it the right way on: October 22, 2016, 06:10:31 PM
It is trivial for moderators to check whether someone is banned or not. I just have to take a look at their profile.
But a real pain in the butt for us.
I'm very well aware of that.

I would suggest a Rank: "Banned". One word, right under the username. It can even be a warning for other people.
Excellent.
This may actually be a good idea. I'll check with theymos to see what he thinks.

I was particularly wondering if us members would have ways of detecting sold accounts.
My example way seems good. Any other ways?
That example is really an obvious one if you look at the second page of last posts. I'm not aware of other methods, maybe someone else has a suggestion or two.
10215  Other / Meta / Re: Proactive fighting with spammers. Doing it the right way on: October 22, 2016, 05:55:18 PM
Can you see how it would be helpful to us members? If so, could you try to find out if possible please.
It is trivial for moderators to check whether someone is banned or not. I just have to take a look at their profile. I'm not sure if we should do it though, but in this clear case the member is not banned.

Look at RealMalatesta's account. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=321061

RealMalatesta has been a good member here for years. Now sold or hacked, and spam posting.
(his last real post June 20, his first spam post under new ownership October 20)
Yes, I think I've reported this one in the cleanup yesterday.

Would this be a ban? Is this 1 way that sold accounts would be recognised?
Are there other ways sold accounts could be recognised?
I would permanently ban this one as it likely correlates with many other 1 line spammers that used to be in Bitmixer. I do not have the tools/access to recognize sold accounts.
10216  Other / Meta / Re: Proactive fighting with spammers. Doing it the right way on: October 22, 2016, 05:33:40 PM
I all for it Lauda.

I think members should also be able to see who is and is not banned, past, present and future.
There is really almost no valid reason for one to sell their account here. Even if they were desperate for money, then the best thing to do would be to put it in as collateral for a loan.

It is hard, or a waste of time, to investigate/report/watch when we do not know if an account is already banned.
Maybe mark their profile page? This should be easy to achieve?
I'm not sure about that, nor what other moderators/administrators think. Currently, banned users get stripped of their signature and other profile information (implemented sometime in 2016 IIRC).
10217  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [RAFFLE] - Cat's Mysterious 32 Spot Raffle on: October 22, 2016, 01:44:57 PM
0.01btc is a good ticket price so stick at that but the 1st prize is the only one people want I think, even just something special for 2nd prize would up the sales, tempt people in so they can't not want to buy a ticket.
The other prizes are more like consolidation prizes, and I think they're pretty decent considering the ticket price. Regarding the first prize: The Green Raven-bit is worth 10-15x of the raffle ticket alone.

I'll take 3 & 0 please.
3 from first lot, and 0 from second, right?

Confirmed. Thank you.

11 tickets to go!
10218  Other / Meta / Re: Proactive fighting with spammers. Doing it the right way on: October 22, 2016, 07:22:19 AM
That lead to worst situation like someone can scam with main account and leave the account after negative feedback. just create an alt to do the same or otherwise
No. I'm telling you what the situation is now, and what may be acceptable. Having an alt account just to discuss something is fine in my view (obviously if you don't abuse it for any other purposes).

But the forum works that way in general higher activity rank members are more reputable and newbies are least. don't you agree this is the mindset of most forum members and visitors
No, that's not how the forum works. You don't get to blame the forum because the crowd isn't properly acquainted with how it works.

Shouldn't be disallowing account sales to happen in this forum something where all staff members directly would agree on? As it didn't happen yet, is that because of the fact that there is some sort of resistance within the staff, or are you guys still looking for a way to incorporate it in the right way? I might be wrong of course, but enforcing such policy shouldn't be that much of a difficulty.
Well, some argue that you can't halt account sales completely (which is a straw-man) and I'm sure that the staff is well aware of this. Others argue that the prices of accounts will go up which would encourage more farming, and so on. Generally speaking, I do believe that it would take a decent hit on the spammers market. Keep in mind that: If you get busted for trading even once, you'd get permanently banned (along with any accounts that you own). If that isn't considered a high risk/low profit trade, then I don't know what is.
10219  Other / Meta / Re: Proactive fighting with spammers. Doing it the right way on: October 22, 2016, 06:40:50 AM
I don't think banning account selling would have decent effect since we are not able to detect many sales which are done inside this forum. If sales are encouraged outside this forum, our chances of finding sold accounts becomes slim.
We can actually. We're aware of plenty of public sales, and there's a fair amount of accounts that have been tagged for this very reason. In addition to that, the administration has more tools to detect these. As I said, the primary thing about the idea is the added risk of a permanent ban (both sides).

But i would like to see banning alt accounts, which is main cause for selling accounts and spamming. Single person creating multi accounts and posting shit for few months and sell them with high forum rank to some newbie scammer. And also lending with bitcointalk account as collateral adds up to this queue for spamming, But happens mostly when the lender try to sell that account for defaulting and this encourages newbies to create multi account just for lending.
I think that having one or two alts is fine, and kind-of-encouraged in a free speech environment (e.g. a case where stating something may receive 'negative feedback' on your main account). The problem is the people account farming (we're talking about tens to hundreds of accounts).

I don't like the reputation is based on the number of days and posts rather we need the ranking to be based on some other factors which could actually determine the their reputation.
That's not reputation, that's activity.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1378965.0
A ton of posters who can be removed straight away.
Update: All of those have been banned yesterday already.
10220  Other / Meta / Re: Proactive fighting with spammers. Doing it the right way on: October 22, 2016, 06:17:42 AM
Account sales can't  be banned because they can be facilitated off this forum and you may never know what deal has gone through and where. How can you control something that doesn't happen within the reach of the forum??
No, you are wrong. Account sales can't be stopped, but they can be made bannable. If we make this a punishable offense, this introduces a huge risk to both parties involved in such trades. I'm pretty sure that this would have a decent effect on this though.
