10221  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: (SOLVED) downloaded virus(es) by Bitcoin Core 0.9.0 on: May 05, 2014, 07:27:01 PM
I think maybe it's just random coincidence that the transaction signatures end up containing the same signatures that some virus detection programs use. There are gigabytes of essentially random data in the blockchain, and so there is a good chance of a random match.

Is that correct?

Yes but there have also been transactions specifically designed to trigger this. It basically was an attemt to DoS Bitcoin
read more about that here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=554738.0
10222  Other / Off-topic / Re: What video games do you play? on: May 05, 2014, 06:13:29 PM
I fail to see the benefit of pre-ordering a game. Why not just buy it when it comes out? You can download instantly on steam or whatever; it's not like back in the day when you had to go to the STORE and they could RUN OUT lol.

Companies are trying to lure in pre-orders by offering crappy "special content" for people who pre-order but I'm still not biting.

Exactly, some try to lure you with "early access" and "bonus this and that", but all in all Id rather buy a finished game than a promisse of a game that might be different. On the other hand: some indy devs might need the money to finish the game. Its a difficult decission sometimes.

I am not against the concept of crowd-sourcing development costs, which has been done and is being experimented with by some smaller developers. But to me that's different than some multi-million dollar company saying "give me your $60 now, we will release the game 3 months later than expected with a shitload of bugs, and um.... give you a special horse that no one else can get!"

Unfortunately gamers are the only ones that cane change this (just don't buy the game thats not finished).
Similarly with the DLC. A small part of the game is being cut  out (a character or some quests), and then being sold as the DLC (Some DLCs are coming out at the same date as the actual game!).

Yep, vote with your money, dont buy unfinished games and 0-day DLC. Its hard sometimes, If you are hyped about a game and want to play it right now.
10223  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Total Noob: Gaming And Mining, Possible? on: May 05, 2014, 04:58:55 PM
Thanks For All That Info So Far -- Really Appreciate It

4) Is it possible to mine multiple currencies at the same time?

There are so called multi pools for alt coins: list here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=424541.msg4623156#msg4623156

5) Can I mine with both CPU n GPU at the same time? (While Not Gaming)

Yes

6) What would be the most profitable currency using that setup:
6.1 - while gaming?

Makes no difference you will just get lower hash/s.

6.2 - while not gaming?

Its highly debatable which coin is the most profitable. There are many lists and charts (e.g. http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency ), but in the end you can never be sure.

**Note I'm Not Paying For Power Usage, It Is Free Where I Stay**

This is good since that means you basically get free coins. You have the hardware anyway and it has use for you anyway, so the coins while you dont use it are just on top. As well as the free heat.  Wink

7) If my pc 'melts' should I have made enough coins to replace the parts and still have some profit? (I have heard that some places accept BTC's)

**Also 1 month for a full BTC is not too bad I think**

You will need longer.

Edit (missed that part of the question): It is highly unlikely that you will mine enought to afford a new GPU, but this depends on several factors including
- how long does your GPU live
- how do the coins you mine develop in price (if you mine alt coins directly)
- how does the price of bitcoin develop

Cool Does the ASRock H81 Pro BTC effect the rate of mining? (I probably won't get another GPU until I have built up a secondary PC for just gaming)

No, the board has no or very little effect on the hash/s.

9) Does the CPU count toward GPU mining? (EG will an i5 with HD7950 mine faster than an i3)

No, the CPU only makes sure your GPU has enough to work, which any reasonable CPU can do without a problem. You might get a problem with an old Pentium 133 MHz Wink

Thanks In Advance

Im sure some traders are making a lot of profit from the price swings

thus to the average saver - it's bad... i bought some bitcoins when the price was around 500UDS - I'm loosing money these days.

No you only loose money if you sell now.
10225  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Klick and Earn - Free BTC -without captcha - without reload on: May 05, 2014, 02:20:47 PM
Still waiting for my payout. This is slowly startingto smell like scam.

How much have you got on the site?

0.025BTC

What? The average click gave you 1 satoshi. You want to tell us you clicked 2.5 Million times in the few days that it was running? I dont think this is even possible, with the limitations the site had.
10226  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitcoin rate/price on: May 05, 2014, 02:18:53 PM
is it good that the bitcoin's rate is falling these days? It's now about 427 USD... Was much higher a few weeks/months ago... Will the glory days return?

Depends if you want to buy the low price is good for you. If you want to cashout the price might be bad for you.

Noone will be able to tell you what the future will bring.

Looking for stuff like this?

"Famously known as the navigator who "Discovered" America while trying to find a back door into the lucrative spicy goodness of Asia. Only he didn't discover it, as there were already people there, and it had already been visited by several other groups of varying nationalities. He's also hailed as the man who proved the earth was round, only this fact had been known for hundreds of years already.

So what was Columbus? He was a slave trader, a tyrant, an incompetent moron with a penchant for putting hundreds of sailor's lives at risk, and most of all, a collosal ass."

10228  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: new backup of wallet.dat every transaction? on: May 05, 2014, 12:33:14 PM
If I understand correctly, the bitcoin-qt wallet always keeps 100 unused addresses with their public and private keys in the wallet.dat file, so you can perform up to 100 transactions without backing up the wallet.dat file in between and you will still be able to access the funds in the wallet when you recovered it from the last backup.

This is correct. As the private keys are non-deterministic it is necessary to back them up at least every 100 txs as new ones are generated which have no correlation with the past.
-snip-

I cant quite follow this in the code, can you point me in the right direction?

Here is what happens when I send coins. https://dev.visucore.com/bitcoin/doxygen/class_send_coins_dialog.html#a2cab7cf9ea5040b9e2189297f7d3c764
There is "::newPossibleKeyChange", but it newer calls "GenerateNewKey()" https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/search?q=GenerateNewKey%28%29

Which as far as I understand the code, is what makes a new key.
10229  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Antminer S1 mit Raspberry Pi ? on: May 05, 2014, 11:44:23 AM

10230  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: new backup of wallet.dat every transaction? on: May 05, 2014, 11:23:19 AM
do i need to make a new backup of a wallet.dat file after every transaction?

for example, lets say i have saved my wallet.dat on a usb, the next day i make a few deposits as well a withdrawl and then the hard drive crashes erases all files... will i be able to retrieve my account from the wallet.dat file that was saved prior to my transactions?

Assuming this is about bitcoin core wallets:

Your initial wallet comes with 100 addresses. As long as you dont generate the 101st you dont have to make another backup, you can still access all your funds, even if the old wallet did not "create" the address #42 yet. The incomming transaction will look a bit funny (grey) in the front end, but you can still spend the coins. On the other hand more than one backup can help because you will "survive" several failing backups. E.g. usb stick broken, flash card burned, hard disk crashed, but you still have an encrypted file on the old laptop of your good friend X.
10231  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Antminer S1 mit Raspberry Pi ? on: May 05, 2014, 11:13:29 AM

10232  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How lucky Is my brother on: May 05, 2014, 11:08:17 AM
At around 90MH/s, your luck (chances) is about 1 in 4.4 Million.

"So your telling me there a chance"

Sure, mining a block is basically a guessing game. Might get lucky, chances are slim though. Not sure if the numbers above are correct, but the chance is very low.
10233  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Antminer S1 mit Raspberry Pi ? on: May 05, 2014, 11:05:01 AM

             |Antminer s1

10234  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What happens to bitcoins that are abandoned on exchanges and pools on: May 05, 2014, 08:09:25 AM
No laws related to bitcoin? Taxes or otherwise? Free reign over what you do with all the coins you get.

Just because bitcoin is new does not imply that there are no rules. In germany bitcoin is considered a unit of account and thus there are laws. I imagine other countries have similar laws. Its not like bitcoin is the first kind of currency besides the official currency of a country. There are several other examples.

On the other hand the exchange can just declare bankrupcy like Gox.
10235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Wallet.dat File Extension on: May 05, 2014, 08:03:57 AM
I agree.  This is just me thinking long term.  I am in far enough to where I need to make sure I have secured what I have because it would sting quite a bit to have to start all over.  I have only used what I know I can lose, but it gets to a certain point where you see something with a lot of potential, and I don't want to lose it over a simple mistake.

wallet.dat is just a name and changes no content. You can name that file virus.exe and it would not make a difference. On the other hand it will not offer any kind of protection. Just a little obscurity. Lets say someone gets your harddrive and scans for the kinky stuff, if they're smart they will not scan for *.dat *.asc *.TrueCrypt, but for fileheaders. So renaming does nothing either way. Afaik windows is the only OS that cares about the 3 letters after the dot anyway. Yep -just tested it- Linux does not care, and finds the correct programm even without an ending.
10236  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: windows/linux blockchain data on: May 04, 2014, 08:35:19 PM
HI. I have ssd drive (with win7) and there is not enought data to store btc/armory blockchain data. So I have moved blockchain data to other drive (second drive), change shotcuts and everything is workin five with my win7 system.

But I also want to install linux system. So I have add third drive with linux and now: there is a question - if I instal btc and armory in linux and point to the same blockchain data that windows use (second drive) it will be ok ? Thanks.

If you use a filesystem that both Windows7 and Linux understand you should have no problems. Typically this would be fat 32.

10240  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitcoin is not p2p on: May 04, 2014, 12:11:39 PM
It is a system with fair share of coins. You have 1 share online and you have zero money offline. It is a real p2p coin system. It is like you have 1 share of a corporation. What exactly you don't understand? I cant put my ideas to your brain. I have not magic powers.

Give me an example how a trade with your currency would work.
