1041  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to sign a message?! on: February 23, 2018, 05:54:36 PM
If it starts with a "1" and you have the private keys you can definitely sign a message using that address... it is probably just that Bitpay and CoPay don't provide the functionality within their wallets.

You would need to use another wallet like Electrum (https://electrum.org/#download) and import your private key and use the inbuilt tool for signing messages... Apparently b.info also offers this for imported keys, but I don't like b.info Tongue

Or you'd need to use an external tool like "brainwalletx" (http://brainwalletx.github.io/#sign)... NOTE: I DON'T vouch for the safety of using "brainwalletx" and I certainly wouldn't use their website to input a private key... At the very least you should create an "offline copy" of it (download .ZIP and run locally while OFFLINE etc).

Importing private keys to latest version of electrum is safe tho but i wouldn't recommend doing the same for brainwalletx nor for B.info even if it is proven to be safe for the last one.
Avoid online sites when you are dealing with sensitive informations.

1043  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: February 23, 2018, 04:00:09 PM
It's hard to understand where to get merits. I'm not after with the merits though. Maybe doing efforts to help people make money here in bitcointalk could consider be a merit

It is hard to understand how can someone read the first post and don't understand after that how to get merit.
A simple answer : make useful and good quality posts.
More info https://m.imgur.com/a/jWrTB, you could get more informations from the infographics in the OP.

Team America: World Police
silly sanctions
two dictatorships[/size]

Well that is a good summary of the situation tho Wink
I do not recommend also buying it for non resident persons at least due to the high risks, i can imagine people will be jailed in some democratic countries if they will be caught trading this token. I expect also that it will not be put in any exchanges outside of Venezuela...
1045  Other / Meta / Re: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ on: February 22, 2018, 06:58:32 PM
Tell me, pls,can I buy the rank above (Ful member,St member)? You can in PM.

Quoted for posterity...

I bet you try passing cops on the interstate, too, dontcha?

I can not understand your message! What do you want to say?

Buying accounts although isn't prohibited in the forums but you will risk getting negative trust for your actual account and the other one that you are willing to buy. Then, you will lose your money and your accounts (become useless).
1046  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My Account "jtnichol" was hacked and stolen last August on: February 22, 2018, 06:54:16 PM
All right I will try to get ahold of admins.

I used the wayback machine and got my Hyper Crypto address from my signature but that chain has forked away and now that address is useless I'm sure.  Damn...what a shit deal LOL.

I'll see if I can plead my case to one of the admins. Cyrus I guess?  or Theymos?  Anyone else you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Well as the topic, that I referred you to, said, try to contact Cyrus and give him valid proofs, if you didn't get an answer from him then contact theymos with evidence. Only these two can help you. Good luck.

Well, this start to look like a similar thing that we experienced over here lol.
Next few months, i think we will see petro diamond, petro cash, petro pro, petro water, petro O2...
They should wait to see and evaluate the benefits of the first token first but launching a new token could be read as a negative message because simply they are afraid from negative results...
1048  Bitcoin / Press / [2018-02-22] Venezuela aims for crypto alchemy with new 'petro gold' token on: February 22, 2018, 03:54:22 PM
CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuela is preparing a new cryptocurrency called “petro gold” that will be backed by precious metals, President Nicolas Maduro said on Wednesday, a day after launching an oil-backed token that has been panned as a pipe dream by blockchain experts.
Maduro is hoping cryptocurrencies will help Venezuela skirt U.S. financial sanctions as it struggles under hyperinflation and a collapsing socialist economy...

1049  Economy / Speculation / Re: What's going on with the dump? on: February 22, 2018, 03:39:21 PM
Hey,

Can anyone explain to me why there is a such a dump just now? I don't see any big reasons why this is happening. I thought we were on the up. I bought in very recently, so i'm starting to get a bit nervous. Trying to hold fast!

Buy and hold, you will get a nice profit in the future, everyone is winning apart from the ones that sold their coins when the price goes down.
And yes I don't see why we should have reasons to see the price fluctuating, it is all about bump and dump and maybe this too
Manipulation is what’s happening
1050  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My Account "jtnichol" was hacked and stolen last August on: February 22, 2018, 03:23:18 PM
There is a proper way to recover the account (and the only one tho)
1- Read this topic https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0
2- Send the appropriate form to the admin
Good luck.

Thanks for this.  Apparently this "signing" thing has already been done on my account. In fact, it was the first post from the hacked account. here's the link.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.msg21199413#msg21199413

In fact the very next message after that was the ANN page by Open Platform...but I digress.

So now what?  Does that Bitcoin signed message effectively "lock" this account for good?

Even though my face can be seen in earlier posts via video?

EDIT:  By the way I really want to thank you for chiming in here.

If you used an address in one of your posts before the staked one even if that post was deleted, you can refer to its location and sign a message with it, normally even non Bitcoin addresses are accepted.
If the only proof that you have is your identity then try to contact the admins, they are the only ones that can help you here.
1051  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: i can't get a consice answer maybe you can help? on: February 21, 2018, 05:36:45 PM
i  get so many youtubers that do bitcoin minning,  some just do gpu only and have racks and racks, but then some keep saying only use assic and the super 4k ones why can't we come to a consince?

Cpu/gpu mining was profitable in the past, now it is the era of asics when we talk about Bitcoin.
For altcoins, you still can mine some of them with gpu.
You only need to know how much hash you can generate
Take a look here, it can helps you calculating how profitable the operation could be with Bitcoin or altcoins

-snip-

I read this information yesterday in the BBC website but they stated that there isn't yet a public official link to visit so how could they sell $735 million at first day? I think it is just a propaganda.
Searching today for a link, i find this http://www.elpetro.gob.ve/index-en.html

The PETRO (PTR) will be backed by the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the wealth of its large crude oil reserves. More importantly, the Petro has been created in an innovative manner, using the highest standards in block chain technology and information security, thinking of a future where electronic asset-representations will enable more direct trade as well as government work within the framework of true financial and economic independence.

Quote
If you wish to exchange your PTRs for another type of cryptoasset or fiduciary currency, you only need to access any of the electronic trading sites authorized by the Republic (for Bs/PTR operations) or any of the international exchanges that accept PETRO.
I think it is all related to exchanges accepting the new token, the more they are the more successful will be, but i don't think the USA et al. will let it succeed, they will impose democratic sanctions in these exchanges and will try to shut it.

What's the '~' for in that list? Trusted or untrusted? If so then what's up with jonald and shorena?

Code:
Prefix a user's name with a tilde (~) if you want to exclude them from your trust network.
Read Lauda or shorena/jonald trust comments and/or references for more details.

1056  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-02-20] Bitcoin Users Hunted by Police in Bangladesh on: February 20, 2018, 04:17:38 PM
Law enforcement in Bangladesh is actively hunting down users of Bitcoin as the use and trading of the cryptocurrency is still illegal in that particular country.
Full article on Bitcoinist
Pathetic country, one of the worst economy, too much poverty, politicians = scammers, poor people trying to find alternatives by joining & trading  cryptocurrencies and the result is jail. Epic fail.

They just declare bitcoin as illegal so it makes sense that they will hunt them down. But the question is, can they find all the bitcoin users in their country. I'm sure that those bitcoin enthusiast knows how to hide their bitcoin and the only way they can tracked them is that if they change it to FIAT.

And it will took a lot of efforts from the authorities. Is it worth though? Really sad to see them suddenly banned bitcoin but if they think that they can stop it, they are 100% wrong.
Hunting crypto users isn't that easy, users should give the traded amount in fiat to their relatives abroad in order to get them in.
1057  Other / Meta / Re: Activity & new membergroup limits on: February 20, 2018, 12:28:51 PM
hey my activity is 29 ,and im going to Jr.member ?so when is 30 im in Jr.member right ? Huh Huh Huh

Yes and you are already a junior member since it requires 0 merit to pass from newbie to junior member, however think to improve the quality of your posts in order to get some merit points. (you need at least 10 merit to be a member after reaching 60 activity)
1058  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 19, 2018, 05:27:44 PM
Welp, just sold a bit. Price is sure to go up now.

When you wash your car and it rains the day after and when you sell few coins and the price goes up, well you should know that this isn't your era! Tongue

Can I be upgraded to a legendary member for charity sake

Ok, since it's for charity sake then consider it done!

(someone delete this post and the previous one. Thx)
You people are simply lazy and egoistic, you have to follow the path that every bitcoiner spent years walking in it.
