10401  Other / Meta / Re: Revamping the rank system. Again on: October 04, 2016, 07:59:35 PM
Apropos duration, what about login time? Maybe some sort of endurance rank?
That won't work either since it can be easily cheated with an auto-refresh plugin.
10402  Other / Meta / Re: Revamping the rank system. Again on: October 04, 2016, 07:33:11 PM
I also like that idea to create another category which will be the most higher of the members and that category will be only for those members who will the most trusted members of this forum so that people will easily recognize the most trusted members of the members and we will not need any guarantee from a third party while dealing with them.
The reputation system, specifically a users trust rating is there for this very reason. It helps distinguish users that have *proven* to be at least somewhat trustworthy from the random people on the forum. Adding specific ranks for *trusted* members may end up being problematic. If such a member scams someone in any way or form, they're likely going to blame the forum (staff) for giving them that rank. In addition to that, it creates a lot more stressful workload for the forum staff (deciding who is really trustworthy isn't as easy as some think).
10403  Other / Meta / Re: Revamping the rank system. Again on: October 04, 2016, 07:12:01 PM
I think this is a decent idea (considering that the forum is aging and it's based on duration) that should be coupled with more changes before being labeled as a'revamp'.

I propose a different approach which consists in gradual increase in the activity level required for every rank, so that some users wouldn't end up stripped off of their current rank. For example, Hero member right now requires activity of 480. After implementing the change, it would first require 494, then 508, and up to, say, 960...
I'd like to combine that with either with changing the names of the ranks, and/or adding some newer ones. The system does feel a little dull to me, especially after one reaches 'Legendary'.
10404  Other / Meta / Re: Shouldn't non productive topics be moved from Bitcoin Discussion to Off-Topic? on: October 04, 2016, 05:41:34 PM
I have shown time and again how they spam, not noticed anything happen, no one has communicated with me. That is the first I have heard that my list is of any interest to any admin/global mod, after 5 weeks.
I've had no help. No communication. No encouragement. Nothing.
Well, it is a very extensive list. Even if some of the senior staff members only decide to ban individuals, they'd still have go through the post history of each of those. Now, when you factor in investigating for potential alt accounts on each, it ends up taking even longer.

Probably 1 or 2 (certainly very few) people/groups own many hundreds of farmed accounts.
That's a possibility that I will not deny.

You are welcome to the report above. It is obvious. Had you seen it already?
I did report it as soon as I've read your post. No, I'm actually how I missed them in the Speculation section.

You did not ask for further information about the other obvious accounts that I mentioned emezh10 is spamming from, just as obviously, but untroubled by mods?
What further information? Isn't everything in your thread?

Any chance of banned accounts being marked so all can see?  Smiley
I'm not sure about that; you'd have to suggest it to theymos.

We are side-tracking from OP here, although what we are talking about has relevance. Maybe we should cross back into your thread?
10405  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Many Full Nodes Does Bitcoin Need? on: October 04, 2016, 05:00:00 PM
lesson three if there was 100% guarantee of 3 people not colluding, having 3 nodes is better than 5000 nodes created by one group
Not if we are talking about Sybil attacks, DDoS and other potentially dangerous vectors. Most of the rest which was written by you is either wrong, off-topic or not worth addressing.

There was an (albeit currently old) interesting article regarding this. Now, I have no idea why some people are voting for such a low number (1-1000).
10406  Other / Meta / Re: where is my topic ( what, if I give you 1000 btc, will you do )? on: October 04, 2016, 12:01:44 PM
Wink Huh I was not notified.
You don't get notified if:
1) The thread that you've created gets trashed.
2) You've posted in a thread that got trashed.

Moderators can optionally leave 'moved' threads to inform users of the 'new' location of said thread.
10407  Other / Archival / Re: . on: October 04, 2016, 06:00:41 AM
Agreed... Would like to try but its like 3x more expensive than best Italian coffee Smiley
It is also 3 times as strong as that Italian coffee.

Give it to hipsters - they defo gonna love it! Smiley
This has nothing to do with hipsters.

Overall, it was good and I would def. buy again... I would want to try the whole beans to get the full experience...
My experience after drinking DW the first time:
10408  Economy / Speculation / Re: mempool exploding on: October 04, 2016, 05:41:33 AM
PS: For noobs like kwuk who don't run nodes, there is no "the mempool", it's different for every node.
It's probably just a bad FUD attempt.

there must be some kind of rule on this forum against False information.
As several members besides me have verified and concluded that this information is false, I'm locking this thread.
10409  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Cryptocoin Liability Analyzer on: October 04, 2016, 05:33:25 AM
I like this idea. I've already talked about something similar within the coin collectors chat room. This will help with risk analysis, as I'm generally anti-funded coins since they are counter-intuitive to Bitcoin as they include trust. Generally I concur with:

The more transparency the better.
That said, any ETA on front-end/general project?
10410  Other / Meta / Re: paying to post in threads on: October 04, 2016, 04:57:10 AM
It's a very thin 'line'. As the user above me has pointed out, it is technically allowed but may very well backfire easily. Just please make sure that:
1) Those people aren't posting just for the sake of being paid, which will result in most posts being useless/nonconstructive.
2) Use self-moderated threads if you're creating threads and moderate it semi-strictly (filter out bad responses).
3) Make sure you and those posters follow the full list of rules found here.
Otherwise you may end up incentivizing spam.

Sure? That's pretty much the idea of a signature campaign.
There's a difference. With a signature campaign you are being incentivized to post on the forum, not in a particular thread.
10411  Other / Archival / Re: . on: October 03, 2016, 10:58:34 PM
Please specify all needed information when ordering so that I can keep this manifest properly updated.

mhh looks good but a bit pricey. Someone tried DW Coffee before? Wonder you whether you just get super flurry instead of awake with those coffein rates.
I readed the revieuws on there site, the therm 'bold taste' is repeating.
Mj or Lauda good give us a opion for the taste. Anyone else maybe ?
To be honest, I don't have much experience with whole bean coffee as DW was my first pick when I bought a filter machine. That said, for this kind of strength I expected the coffee to be very bitter since I don't add any milk, sugar or anything similar. I would say it tastes rather 'smooth'; should taste much better depending on your additives.
10412  Other / Archival / Re: . on: October 03, 2016, 10:33:38 PM
Latest analysis still show a fair amount of coins as missing. I wonder who may have the remaining unopened boxes (besides the two that we are aware of).

I swear i will hold a "vote", then regardless of the participants im dialing it back to june 1st.
Genesis chain dictatorship Huh
10413  Economy / Collectibles / Re: The Rather Large [FUND RAISING] Auction.... on: October 03, 2016, 10:22:46 PM
I'll kick it off at 0.12 BTC

I'd welcome those pictures.

10415  Other / Meta / Re: Shouldn't non productive topics be moved from Bitcoin Discussion to Off-Topic? on: October 03, 2016, 09:36:07 PM
I'd quite like the feeling of logging on after a few days and seeing I've got 100 new messages.
I'd hate to see 100 messages of the same type cluttering up my box.

So it would be great if other users could take a proactive part and think "that threads too full, lets just tell them and see if they do anything" before they clog the moderator's inboxs (moderators won't delete or lock it anyway as it is not techincally against any rules of the forum).
Not that many users are rational people, and a fair number are involved in the spam so I doubt that this would work. Those that are aware of it and want to fight it in a way, already do (e.g. I don't open non self-moderated threads anymore).

Thing is, there is little point closing/moving threads, but allowing farmed accounts. They gotta post somewhere.
Nobody is allowing farmed accounts that are used for spam. Your list is being looked into among.

Locking threads in the beginner and help is ok, but these accounts are still lurking.
As I've already told you this before, the moderation *hierarchy* doesn't give us a lot of options (unless one is global moderator, or admin).

Thanks for the report. This one is obvious and will be dealt with swiftly.
10416  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Unknown] Attack on the Network in Progress on: October 03, 2016, 09:12:30 PM
The question is. Is that node malicious or are they simple nodes from android or mobile devices?
No, they are definitely not genuine nodes. Why would someone set up, so many nodes that act suspiciously all at once? They just keep connecting and disconnecting for no particular reason. In addition to that, this is the secondary time that this happened in this very year (the first time was at the date of creation of this thread).

It's probably only a coincidence, but the source code for the “Mirai” botnet was released over the weekend at the same time these strange connections to the Bitcoin network started.
I don't think Botnet source code is responsible for this, especially since AWS is involved. As stated above, this isn't the first time that we're dealing with this (check the creation date of the thread).
10417  Other / Archival / Re: . on: October 03, 2016, 01:05:50 PM
I'll take a bag of original + a bag of seasoned blend. Shall the blend become unavailable due to limited quantity, then I'll take 2 bags of original.

10419  Economy / Speculation / Re: mempool exploding on: October 03, 2016, 08:48:02 AM
So mempool backlog has been exploding again.
No, it has not been exploding. It's been actually lower than it used to be (at least for my node).

With almost 100k btc awaiting confirmation and people waiting hours/days for their transaction to be included in a block, how do you guys think this will affect the price and adoption of bitcoin?
What do you mean with "100k BTC", as in the number of Bitcoin? That amount could be a in singular transaction and does not necessarily have to correlate to the mempool size. This won't affect the price nor the adoption.
