hope i'm not messing up your thread, but it's weird what you were saying about masking profits, and now they seem to be skyrocketing after the IPO announcement

I can't think of any way that it would be possible for anyone to prove either way whether the profits are real or fake.  The owners of the site can place winning or losing bets of their own at any time to skew the profit/loss graph as they wish, and any such bets are indistinguishable from 'real' bets.

So yeah, all we can say is "it's weird". Smiley

Back and better then ever!! Give it a spin and try your luck, better odds then if pirate a ponzi!

More importantly, how do your odds compare with those at https://bitzino.com/ ?

Are you able to compete with their quite attractive set of rules?
10424  Economy / Gambling / Re: 100BTC bet on pirate default against RoloTonyBrownTown on: August 24, 2012, 10:05:37 PM
Seems to me this isn't really even money (in dollars), in that if Pirate pays out, there will be a flood of people selling their proceeds, pushing the price of BTC down.  So dust either wins a lot or loses a little?

No one long on BTC thinks that way.

Indeed.  Everyone seems to think that as soon as people get their Pirate money back (assuming they do), they'll immediately sell.   Well, why?    The only reason I see for doing that is because you think everyone else is going to sell, which is obviously daft Cheesy

Anyway, I won't be selling mine if they're returned.  I'm long BTC.

I'm thinking some people only bought bitcoins to invest with Pirate.  So if they get their coins back they'll likely want their "real money" (as they see it) back.

This looks like the major contributor to the most recent SD profits - another martingale disaster:

Why do you think Pirate would keep BTCs for longer than his creditors? If he's on the run he will need fiat. Anything else other than the previous lock will push prices down, but difficulty is way up and block reward halving is closer.

I don't.  I think that if it's a scam then pirate will have been selling excess bitcoins all along rather than dumping them all at the end.  His lenders didn't have that option.

I was playing today (and loosing some coins) and i noticed that my lucky number was always bigger than the last one, and when it reached some number near 64000 it started again. So i suppose that the timestamp has a lot to do with the "secret".... or maybe coincidence.

Yeah, the timestamp has nothing to do with the magic number.  All that is used to make the magic number is the daily secret (which changes only once per day) and the transaction id of your bet (which doesn't contain a timestamp).  So it's just coincidence.

Although it is true that your lucky number will keep going up until it goes down.  Unless it stays the same.

Is it a bug or (privacy) 'feature'?

It's a bug.  It was introduced accidentally when code was added to avoid sub-cent change from being created, since any sub-cent output automatically incurs a transaction fee.  The code makes sure the change is always at least 1 bitcent if possible, but forgot about the case where no change is necessary.  It works if the entire payment can be made using a single output, but not if more than one output is required.
10432  Economy / Speculation / Re: 1DkyBEKt5S2GDtv7aQw6rQepAvnsRyHoYM on: August 23, 2012, 06:32:08 PM
Still. He has ten 10,000 BTC inputs. Why was it necessary to add the two small sub-0.01 BTC inputs and send the sum of that to a separate address?

It's a bug in the satoshi client.

In an attempt to avoid sending change less than 0.01 BTC, it sends change even when it isn't necessary.

I submitted a fix for the bug a long time ago, but it never got included in the master branch.  See https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/898

Here's a good example.  MtGox is trying to consolidate 10 50k outputs into a single 500k output, but an 11th 50k gets pulled in and spat out as change due to the same bug:

A nice 2k BTC profit for SD in the last 24 hours.

Looks like most of it came from a single address.  Here are the biggest losers over the period:

So they give a min and max bet, but still allow bets that can not be profitable. Seems wrong, since I did not payed any fees to place the bet. Where is the Satoshi limit for fees?

They always pay a fee when returning your winnings to you (win or lose, they return something to you, and always pay a fee).

I don't understand your "where is the limit?" question, but maybe this answers it:

http://www.satoshidice.com/bits.php says:

Quote
On a win or a lose a transaction fee of 0.0005 is subtracted from the payment amount. If this makes the payment amount zero or less the payment is set to 0.00000001. In the event that the transaction costs us more to send back to you, we pay the fee over 0.0005.

i.e. you pay only the first 0.0005 BTC of the fee, and they pay the rest (if any).
10435  Economy / Gambling / Re: 100BTC bet on pirate default against RoloTonyBrownTown on: August 23, 2012, 04:54:51 PM
Seems to me this isn't really even money (in dollars), in that if Pirate pays out, there will be a flood of people selling their proceeds, pushing the price of BTC down.  So dust either wins a lot or loses a little?

bet = 0.01
multiplier = 1.004
winnings = 1.004 * 0.01
fee = 0.0005
payout = 1.004 * 0.01 - 0.0005 = 0.00954

You got a little more than you should.  Probably the true multipler is a little more than 1.004.
10438  Economy / Gambling / Re: SatoshiDICE.com - The World's Most Popular Bitcoin Game on: August 23, 2012, 04:10:29 PM
I believe that a transaction with multiple outputs to the same address would be creating two duplicate payments as far as Bitcoin is concerned. Both transaction outputs would be contained in a transaction with the same hash, and one could be spent, but not the other (much the same as the duplicate coinbase bug). You can multisend to all the different bet addresses at once though, and if you hit 0 on max bets you might even bust the house.

The code to comment out is at lines 950-952 of bitcoinrpc.cpp if you want to try to send some invalid transactions at satoshidice for shits and giggles.

You can bet that it's below 50% and bet that it's above 50% at the same time by just keeping your money and send me 1.9% of what you wanted to bet for the advice.

There's nothing in the protocol to stop you sending two outputs to the same address.  What you say about only one of the two being spendable is completely wrong, since when you spend an output you refer to the transaction ID and the output number.  That uniquely identifies the output you're spending.

The satoshi client doesn't allow you to send 2 outputs to the same address, but presumably other clients do, since we see such bets all the time being sent to satoshidice.

You can't bet "above 50%" at satoshidice.  All bets are "lessthan X".

Here's an example transaction:
http://blockexplorer.com/t/3RmgrQ7WPK

Notice how all 4 outputs have since been spent.

And here it is at satoshidice:
http://www.satoshidice.com/lookup.php?tx=400bea64815ce2035310f7caebdf5c3ce0ddd36bff11aece85ab20baa8b47496

Only 2 of the 3 bets were accepted, since the 3rd would have put it over the max bet allowed (0.05 BTC).  So there's (now) no benefit to sending multiple bets to the same address.  It used to be a way to avoid the maximum bet limit, but that has since been fixed, as shown in the previous link.
10439  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BitcoinMax.com] Closing down on: August 23, 2012, 03:40:06 PM
I agree with the coins that had it the account. I don't know how long it takes you to pass it thru, but if someone invested 100 coins an hour before the announcement and you still had them in your account before you knew about the closing, wouldnt it be the most ethical thing to send them right back?

No.  It was made very clear that as soon as your coins are received by payb.tc they are earning interest, whether he actually passed them through or not.  Since they're earning interest, you can't expect to get them back in the event of a default.  payb.tc was reducing his own investment by however much you sent until he transferred your coins to BS&T to make up the difference.

You can't go changing the rules now.

You should add Clipse to this list. He took the money from bonus pool and invested it with pirate without telling anyone or increasing payouts. At least people who invested with pirate knew the risks and got paid for it. He owes me about 90 btc, which was a good chunk of change when I requested payment. To me, this kind of behavior is far worse then selling pirate bonds.

Is that what Clipse was doing all along to make his pool pay?

After all his rudeness on his thread about how we just didn't understand his business plan he was investing his miners' funds in a probable ponzi?
