Best way to manage these issues: never tell the SO you have bitcoin. Second best: don't say how much, just some pocket money for the lulz.

These strategies come handy if she ever turns her back on you, too.

Another angle: My wife wants to split, she gets 50%, no regrets and I don't look back. It's all about managing expectations.

It is a good point.  if you have 2 units of what ever and count on 1 for her and 1 for you in case of a split its cool.

Or be like me.

My wife earned far more than I ever did from 1986 to 2017.

So I have no worries in a 50-50 split I make out.

Although if BTC keeps whaling away in a few years time I will pass her up in grand total earnings.

I mine my ltc and doge at viabtc.com

I use pps+ they pay some coin every day.

I have a referral code

Referral Code: 257609
https://www.viabtc.com/signup?refer=257609

or just sign up

https://www.viabtc.com/signup?

ether way you get the same money.

if you use my code I get a tiny cut of the fee you pay.  you fee is not bigger.

It is plain bad to mine with the solo pool.

of course if you sign with viabtc.com  they will want an email and a cell phone number.
10545  Economy / Speculation / Re: How far below $10k in 2021? on: March 26, 2021, 03:54:15 PM
If you're familiar with good math and science and have done the work to confirm using good sources, then you know bitcoin will be below $10k sometime in 2021 <---fact. How soon do you think it will be below $10k and by how much? Interested in your scientific opinions.

What is more likely in 2021 10k or you dying?

Me I am 64 in okay health my odds of dying this year are about 112 out of  10000. that is an 89 to 1 shot

I would think the odds of btc dropping under 10 k this year  are higher than that.
10546  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Octopus mining on a Nvidia 3060 vs Eth mining on a Nvidia 3060ti on: March 26, 2021, 03:44:14 PM
What miner are you using?  T. Rex runs on my 2060 supers at 44-47 but won't run on my 3060s in SMOS.

I turned off all gear today as it is too hot.

but the octopus was smos and nbminer

nbminer-nebutech-v36.1

-a octopus -o stratum+tcp://octopus.eu-west.nicehash.com:3389 -u 1JdC6Xg3ajT3rge3FgPNSYYFpmf53Vbtje.oct --api 127.0.0.1:22333

works great and makes about $1.75 a day

Which is okay. but not as good as eth.
10547  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: March 26, 2021, 12:55:23 PM
It is about time and as Mikey said they are ramping up for rainy season.

For price on dec 31 2020 to be 28,800.
and price on march 26 2021 is 52,300.

diff on dec 31 was 18.6 t
diff on march 26 is 21.86 t

those numbers favor miners bigly.

So if we get a 6% and a 5% next 2 jumps it is to be expected.

Also a ton of eth gear was put on line in the dec 31 to march 26 slots.

It is possible that chips for gpus have been locked down more and eth network growth will slow so builders are pushing btc gear more.

10550  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Welp! Something weird happened to my Strix 3090.. on: March 26, 2021, 12:01:44 AM
yeah the ram settings over 1050 get hot.

My ram is at  1025 .

I have evga 3987 3 eight pin jacks. It can pull 350 watts but simply gets too hot.

I will take the steady 112mh  evga has 3 year warranty and the option to extend it to 5 years for 30 bucks. 5 year warranty on a 2000 usd item is nice.

I rather it just runs.
10551  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Welp! Something weird happened to my Strix 3090.. on: March 25, 2021, 11:36:46 PM
Hey guys!

Long time lurker, first time posting. I am currently stumped as to what is going on with one of my Strix 3090 (I was lucky to get 2 of them).

So around end of last month, I started to mine again (I mined Eth last 2018 with a 1080, 1070 and a 1060 for a year and was able to mine 1.xx eth, but then I stopped since I got super busy with work and troubleshooting the miner takes some time.). I got a Strix 3070 and a Strix 3090 at first, then a couple weeks after I got those cards, I was able to snag another 3090 Strix. The first two cards (Strix 3090 and 3070), were doing great in general. Temps were okay-ish (3090 vram temps was hitting 90c, and where my miner is sitting at, I am afraid that it will go up to high heavens since it's still pretty cold outside where I live. It's still -6c to -2c outside, and the ambient temp inside the room where my miner is is around 10c) and I am pretty happy overall. My settings were:

Strix 3090:
PL = 83% >>>>>>>>   too high.          try 77%
Core = -502 >>>>>> you can do -300
Mem = +1150 >>>>> too high.            try  1025
Fan = 75%
Mhs = 119-121mhs    I get 112 on mine

Strix 3070:
PL = 60%
Core = -502
Mem = +1200
Fan = 75%
Mhs = 60-61mhs

2 weeks after I started mining again, I was able to snag another Strix 3090. So, I did what everyone would probably do once the card gets on the doorstep, I shutdown my miner, opened up the box, smelled the inside of the box before taking the card out, installed it on my rig, started mining again. Although I noticed, the second (new) Strix 3090 vram temps were hitting 102-106c after a couple minutes of mining (Im using NBminer btw). I opened up the door next to my miner and the temps went down since its still pretty cold outside (-8c when I was dealing with the vram issue on the second 3090), and the temps went down to 88c. After doing a little research, found out that the GDDR6 "x" are particularly hot and are sensitive to heat. After reading that, I decided to, like everyone else did, change the thermal pads on the card. Now, the temps of the two Strix 3090 before the thermal pad change were:

(1st strix) - max temp was 90c, with door opened, 82c
(2nd strix) - max temp was 106c with door opened, 88c

After the pad change (same original settings):

(1st strix) - max temp was 88c, with door opened, 76c
(2nd strix) - max temp was 92c with door opened, 82c

Happy ending, right? Well, I wish it was. Here's the part where I got stumped on what the hell is going on. So a week after I did the thermal pad change, I was able to snag a Tuf 3060Ti. Happy guy again! And as what I did before, shutdown the miner, opened the box, smelled the card, installed it on the miner, BUT, before I turned on the rig, I decided to move the second strix 3090 (the one that was hitting 106c) closer to the other cards. I am using one of those open-air mining frames:

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B073Q2CN14/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

When I first installed the second (hot) 3090 strix and noticed that it was hitting 106c, I decided to move it one slot away from the rest of the cards.

After moving that, I turned on the rig, and started mining. Happy boy! But, NOPE! I noticed that the second 3090 (hot) got more hotter! For some reason, when the door is closed (keep in mind, this 3090 is the CLOSEST to the open door), the vram temps is hitting 106c-108c after a few minutes! I am stumped and weirded out as to what the hell happened. Remember, all I did was move that card away from the rest of the cards and closer to the door. I tried restarting the miner, no luck, I tried re-installing HWinfo because I thought it might be a glitch on the software, nope. I tried lowering down my settings to PL = 79%, Mem = +900, Fan speed is at 85%. Temps went down to 98c but would sometimes hit 102c, and my hashrate went down to 105mhs. Now, for the thermal pads that I used, I ended up with Thermalright's Oddyssey pads. So for the back vrams, I used 2.5mm (2mm and .05mm stacked together) and for the front vrams, I used 2mm. The rest of the stock pads, I didnt bother changing. Now, please keep in mind, for a week, both of the 3090 vram temps were almost the same (2c difference). And then after installing and moving one of the 3090 cards closer to the door, that card's vram temps went to the high heavens above. And I was pretty sure I was delicate as hell when I was moving that card away from the rest. Now, I am stuck with no idea what the hell happened. I took that hot 3090 card, and replaced the pads, AGAIN, on them, thinking that I might have just screwed something up. No luck, still same, high  vram temps. I've already pulled enough hair trying to get to the culprit of those sudden hot temps. Last night, I was thinking for my options to get the temps down considering that summer is just around the corner.

1st:

Slap a god damn waterblock on the card and hope to all gods above that it will tame the vram temps down.

2nd:

Grab a thick, long, copper heatsink at amazon, and slap those using double sided thermal tape on the back plate.

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08NJYJPY7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I am leaning towards the cheaper route (2nd option).

I am on the process of printing some sort of a 120mm fan bracket that can be installed on the 20x20 aluminum extrusion where the card riser is sitting, and slap a 120mm fan on it, blowing towards the backplate. Hopefully, when the heatsinks come in, those and the 120mm fan would help with the temps.

If anyone here had a similar, weird experience, please let me know. And if anyone have some advice, please yell at me on the comments.

My mining rig specs are:

Asus B250 Mining Expert
Intel 3930 Processor
Sandisk 240gb SSD
EVGA P2 1600w power supply
16gb Corsair LP Vengeance Memory
Using NBminer on Windows 10

P.S:

2 weeks from now, I will move my rig on the basement since it's colder down there, but I am still afraid with the vram temps. If I could get the temps down to maybe 86c-88c steady, I will be a happy boi and will be able to get some proper sleep.  Grin

getting that extra 6-8mh is not worth it.
10552  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: March 25, 2021, 11:02:48 PM
So My winning shuffle  asus strix 6700 xt from the 18th of march showed up today.

Can't change any setting to it on windows 10 so it is doing 153 watts and 43mh.

I will switch it to smos in a few days.

I tried asus tweak  = fuck you phil
I tried after burner = fuck you phil

Still turns profit for now.

I will post back on it later.

Did you try using crappy old AMD Wattman?  I've been striking out with the shuffle as well.

I most likely will do smos.

make a rig with

msi          6800xt
asus strix 6700xt
asus strix 5600xt

reaching the point of no gear to be had.

I think I have
60mh and 50mh coming in then zip

I would like to hit the shuffle.

no shuffle oh well
10553  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin going down $50k soon, what's next? on: March 25, 2021, 08:04:35 PM
I think many wanted to buy the dip at $50K and got front run again when the low hit $50.2K. There would of been tons and tons of liquidity if $50K broke but instead the whales bought the dip slightly above $50K

Similar situation when we were going to go to the previous ATH where everybody wanted to buy at $42K but we never actually touched this previous ATH instead came close and rocketed away. Basically whales front run everybody buy bids.

However I would wait until daily close before entering because we might still bounce and break the $50K in the next hour or two.

nope I front ran the whales hours ago I got in at 51k
look here.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336.msg56643372#msg56643372

most here do not have the courage to buy the dip.

most here do not understand that if you buy the dip you need buy 3x the first dip buy if dip continues.

So I grabbed at 51k at 1x but was ready for 48k at 1x and 42k at 1x  and 30k at 1x
10554  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Total Power of GPU Mining Rig on: March 25, 2021, 07:53:00 PM
I will not trust that PSU, it is too small for 1800watts anyway i cant say it for sure until i take it and open. Man you got so expensive GPUs and getting cheap psu not logical. Get proper PSU for those beast, good luck

Solid advice those cards cost over 1k each.

He simply should do 3 card 1000 watt psi mobo's

and run 2 mobos.

I have six slot mobos that will do 3x 3090 at 275 watts each I use a 1000 watt seasonic focus.

He could do 3 on a six slot onda board every other slot and use a 1000 watt psu easy peasy build.

or do 4 and 4 on two of these

https://www.ebay.com/itm/BTC-37-Computer-Motherboard-8-PCI-E-16X-Slots-with-Integrated-CPU-DDR3-Memory/143982166579?

these will even use cheap bitmain apw3+ psu

The only hard requirements are PCIe and GPU drivers. A 64 bit CPU (and OS) are only required
for new cards because Nvidia doesn't build 32 bit drivers anymore. I had Maxwell cards mining
on an old Pemtium D with 32 bit Windows, as well as a Core 2.

I have some z170 boards

But nothing older.

Actually, I was thinking about who Musk might be in the WO, and surely proudhon would be a decent candidate.

The general tone is in the right place, but does account age check out?

Proudhon's been around far too long to be Musk.

I can confirm. I am not Elon Musk.

proudhon is a Llama, not a Springbok.

Perhaps proudhon will give us some details on the upcoming Llama Price Movement, which could drop at any time.  I don't want to be anywhere close to that.

What you think about an Alpaca, they look really cute Cheesy

Alpaca socks are the best socks.
Alpaca knit hats are the best hats.

Back to BTC I purchased the dip today in all 3  of my PayPal btc holdings.

To those that think my PayPal BTC holdings are not pure enough oh well.

To those that read closely my PayPal holdings are only btc and are under 10% of my btc holdings
