razor, he is talking about conspicuous consumption where people buy expensive goods to appear or feel better about themselves.   Like that famous brand with a tick on it, most people arent requiring such trainers but just want to show off they are rich enough to afford such things.
Its especially true of the youth in society where image is everything, if young workers just put their money towards buying a house or reducing their student debt they were would be far richer later on.   Not spending money sometimes has no downside, unfortunately alot of our culture now is just importing everything and there is no locally tailored alternative but theres sometimes craft designs
10582  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic Devastation on: July 28, 2016, 10:55:43 PM
Zen Buddhism has the idea of centralised balance of the self rather it being a postcard to god like a begging plea, that makes more sense to me

Back to economics, I ran some numbers on the U.S. CPI.  Nominally 1.51% since QE, if I reweight food, fuel, housing and medical to align with medium household income shares, it comes to 3.32%.

Therefore, if anyone tells you the SPX has reached a new high, relative to May 2015, keep in mind that 15 months later a real new high would be over 2223, which has not happened yet.

Yep absolutely, the powers that be are counting on the population underestimating inflation.   The stockmarket will likely keep up with new cash created but the growth over and above is more questionable, thats the evidence of previous booms mirroring large amounts of inflation.    The lesson should be to not hold onto fixed amounts of cash returns, if that is ever realised by the marketplace it means higher rates but we live in a strange world where alot of political influence and non capitalist incentives from China mean rates are not rising.

The effective market interest rate in large parts of the world is negative even if its not outright stated like in Japan

Next set of games I sell will be similar full account over a dozen titles with the main game as Xcom multiplayer bonus pack.

I'll post the for sale link as soon wjohn confirms he is happy with this one
10584  Economy / Services / Re: Need active members for a Pokemon GO Forum on: July 28, 2016, 07:24:30 PM
its a scam..no payment.
Just so theres no confusion, still did not get paid for a simple ten posts made as requested which is kinda low but thats how people operate their business on the interwebs I guess.   Not sure how you build a forum with dishonesty but good luck with that anyhow

10587  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin replaces the money? Could happen? on: July 27, 2016, 06:20:28 PM
No it could happen far quicker then that, it can start tomorrow and be true by the end of the year.   I dont think it will but you underestimate the monetary velocity possible in modern economies.    We are talking years not decades though thats not unreasonable in theory I think this process began with Nixon back in the sixties and has matured plenty enough for transformation to occur now within our sight.

Im merely talking about US dollars not being a world reserve currency in the same way Sterling pound is no longer the world reserve like it was when united kingdom was the most widespread empire and most sucessful in its trading operations across a commonwealth of countries.   That is all ancient history to us now but only 100 year ago it was Sterling not dollars favoured as the main currency held worldwide due to all the possible trading and demand available.
So can bitcoin become that standard in a similar way, I will say I dont think this occurs.    Obviously this is not an empire, has little political influence, no army whatsoever, no territory or ability to tax productive sections of a society.
Bitcoin is a transient form of value and is most useful when facilitating global fast but secure transactions.  It might be that these will always be quite small but still this is important as almost all people are not requiring millions but perhaps it wont be a reserve as it is not going to be the backbone of a nation or have an empire like influence and inter continental transfers of wealth
10588  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Everyone looses in the long run on: July 27, 2016, 05:25:47 PM
I think games like Poker you have people who spend their lives just winning games and thats on average because obviously they just look to minimise their losses and maximise their gains.    If people could manage the risk of more random games outside of Poker then they too could also profit, the argument here is where you have the open and stated house advantage which means you are always going to be going up hill and cannot make a profit.

Im just not sure which games allow the sensible management of risk and possible skill to show through, so theres Poker obviously to me anyway I think you can win at this.   But maybe games like Blackjack its possible to win or draw even more often.  Something like roulette should be straight forward, you know its almost 50% odds but the house has its take in there so I wont argue on that one you cant win overall yet Im sure someone will mention a system!  Cheesy
10589  Economy / Economics / Re: If bitcoin price is $10.000, will fiat be worthless? on: July 27, 2016, 05:03:16 PM
Digital currency is different from fiat, like in your example USD and EURO are different because in every country we have our own currency and only by bitcoin that we are united in using only one currency and if that value will be reach by bitcoins it could be a dominant currency.
Dollars are a digital currency, it just has no fixed amount and they keep expanding the total available to suit government needs for cashflow.  If US government wanted to remove all physical notes, they could do this and just issue everyone with a debit card for the central bank.
They probably wont but I believe it costs money for them to keep replacing notes that wear out so in theory it might save them money to do so.  Otherwise dollar would be the same, all digital and just the same prices slowly rising every day

The main difference from normal national currency to bitcoin is the computerised control of major factors, such as the production of new currency.  Via block reward, this is quite different from politics involved in US dollars and bitcoin has a fixed amount known to ever exist.   If they ever change this about bitcoin it would likely mean the standard fails.

Price of fiat money wont affect bitcoin, its really not our business.   Dollars is just one nation and as said above, bitcoin represents the earths population though it just a small percentage mostly highly online based
10590  Economy / Economics / Re: If bitcoin price is $10.000, will fiat be worthless? on: July 25, 2016, 09:47:22 PM
No even for decades it can't reached that price. Faith and optimitism can't applied here because we are taking this sequence into a realistic basis.

For $10,000 to achieved it needs billions of USD value to be used and I doubt big whales will put some value like that as they love price fluctuations.

Bitcoin can be ten thousand tomorrow and it'd require no change on value, it might be the same exchangable worth as before.  Dollars have no fixed value that is the point, there is no rule to say we cant have bitcoin change from 1000 to 10,000 very quickly.
Just realise all the debt and previous QE programs have stacked up dollars ready to be used in supermarkets or for oil or for anything whenever the market stops wanting to roll over this debt and extend extra credit terms to USA continually.  Its all just waiting there like melting snow on a hillside, an avalanche is very possible

Fiat wont be worthless at 10k bitcoin, it just means a possible 10x higher price on everything you buy now.

Well, I would say that gambling is great if we can always win

No thats not the case.   The risk of loss has to be there or the challenge and adrenaline rush from succeeding would not lead to the addictive qualities.     You could compare this to driving a car at 100mph vs sitting on a train at the same speed, its the same deal same result but I expect the car to be the more appealing to a risk taker as its control is with them and also a more apparent risk of loss.

10593  Economy / Exchanges / Re: MtGox withdrawal delays [Gathering] on: July 23, 2016, 08:48:58 PM
Doesnt Japan have alot of company fraud of some type.   Like the deal with the olympus scandal and Michael Woodford who was fired after he objected to the cover up and dodgy accounting basically.  he raised it publicly but little was done immediately as he was seen as causing the problem

Some people got a few years jail eventually, sums involved, lost were something like 600m $ I think

Woodford stated his concerns that, far from learning from the scandal, Japan's response was to become even more secretive and unsupportive of change in areas highlighted by the scandal.[88]

10595  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: To Gamble or To Invest? on: July 23, 2016, 06:23:59 AM
Investing is gambling now thanks to modern day debt financed economic fiscal policy of the worlds richest nations.    Look at the spending of all the top ten gdp countries then match it to the spending to the source of funds each year, they are effectively leveraged and gambling the result of various spending programs.    If you invest you are in the same market as trillion dollar leveraged operations, no matter what you goto.
I have a infrastructure fund in asia which should be as a safe as it can be but I bet even that is influenced by how much China is prepared to overspend on commodities and building in its economy.   The two cant be separated, there is risk everywhere especially now.
Investing into bitcoin operations is a gamble on the strength of the dollar and growing demand or instability and volatility of fiat currencies such Venezuela or other troubled economies
10596  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do any people gamble under the age of 18? on: July 23, 2016, 06:17:16 AM
Tons of kids gamble, depends what you mean.   We used to gamble on marbles and coin throws, you have to get the coin closest to the wall and whoever does that will win all the coins.    I cant remember any of it being for big money though, alot of kids now are getting captured by their smart phones and companies which target them as an easy market though Im fairly sure its illegal it definitely happens
10597  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I have a huge gambling problem, any advice on overcoming? on: July 23, 2016, 06:12:05 AM

A suggestion I was given was, every time I am paid, to convert to fiat, but idk...

The creative part of your brain which allows you to be making all that money is also a curse when it comes to risk reward judgements, its like the opposite of depression I guess in that you cant turn off the sparkly lights in your head telling you to just do it!

One thing I did hear from someone kinda obsessed with spending was he used to buy precious metal coins.   Currency specials made up by reserve banks all over the world and in a way its kinda saving that value and diversifying your currency exposure, reducing risk from soverign default scenarios etc (greece or whomever) just like bitcoin is used to spread and allow value transfer away from fiat economies.
So 24 carat gold coins and similar is pretty sparkly stuff and maybe that will satisfy the itch you have and help you to save a bit of your earning potential for your retirement or buying a house or whatever
10598  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How to play gambling in a smart way? on: July 23, 2016, 06:02:25 AM
Only way to advance in gambling is to always bank your profits and start over new every day without trying to roll over the profits and putting them at risk.   I heard an interview with David Choe which sounded like that, discipline not just hoping to have continued luck
10599  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why is gambling so addicting? on: July 23, 2016, 05:56:03 AM
yes winning is what makes us addicted. although we have always suffered many defeats, and victory only a few times. yeah, they will think have a chance to win big if keep trying. most important of all is we are smart to control themselves, and all will be fine.

That makes sense, the reward system in your brain is there to reward success in tasks so that you chase rewarding actions and put the effort in to achieve that.  What happens with gambling is that you get the buzz of winning but the game is usually is set at such odds that the overall average profit is given to the business running the game.    I would relate it to hunting game or something like that, it can be a long task and meat is useful to eat so worth it but every gambler must decide if the effort put in really pays off I guess

I was also thinking the addiction could be to the flight or fight response  instinct people have.
10600  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If gambling is illegal in your country, would you still gamble? on: July 23, 2016, 05:23:34 AM
Bitcoin is not currency of any country or recognised as a reserve asset, precious metal or fixed value.    Its hard to tax something like that, sure they can make up some rules always but I think its more like people who collect classic cars and dont really pay any tax even though the price of Ferraris has been going up for years.   ie. Ferraris can held as currency tokens for the extreme rich elite
I know in UK they are specially excluded from any tax, wouldnt be surprised if alot of things were ignored.  So why would they go after cryptographic tokens especially.

Another parallel maybe as new as bitcoin is online game tokens.  I dont mean casino tokens but like the kind of exchangeable goods you find in massive online multiplayer games.   Right now some people have no clue what the heck Im talking about yet at least millions is transferred via that method.  Again not really taxed nor should it be because thats dam ridiculous when you already paid tax on having a job and so on
