1062  Other / Meta / Re: Here is why Bitcointalk is a reliable source! on: October 03, 2023, 01:13:30 PM
Bitcointalk is a great forum with many Bitcoin developers and technical experts but in this forum, there are newbies, spammers, shitposters and trollers too. Everyone who visit as a guest or use this forum as a member must verify information they read.

The Bitcointalk forum and every platform have newbies, spammers and shitposters. Now, I want to say that if you compare Bitcointalk with other available platforms, surely Bitcointalk is more reliable. On most platforms, someone posts and leaves. They rarely come back and follow their previous comment.

Not sure if "reliable" is the right word for this. You still see inaccurate information from time to time especially from those with bad activity:merit ratios. What's great is just the fact that if someone would provide inaccurate information, someone could immediately correct said inaccurate information.

Even if the "reliable" word is not a good choice, I guess you understand what I mean. Everyone loves to earn merits no matter what their rank is. So, even if a newbie makes a reply, I believe they try their best to help others. This is the only way to earn merits. I believe the merits and the DT network affects the reputation system, which is why most peoples want to earn them. If you want to earn them, you must contribute positively. If you see inaccurate information, that is not intentional.

1063  Other / Meta / Here is why Bitcointalk is a reliable source! on: October 03, 2023, 01:15:48 AM
This morning, I was replying to a topic in the Beginners & Help section, and I wanted to write that Bitcointalk is a reliable source for anything. If you ask anything about Bitcoin and crypto technology, you will likely get the most reliable/valuable/accurate answer compared to most of the internet. Then I asked myself, but why? How does it make a difference?

The answer I got from myself is;

Tech Geeks
BitcoinTalk has some tech geeks who exclusively write their posts to help people in every other way. Of course, Bitcointalk also has average users like me. Since this forum is one of the oldest on the internet, thousands of articles were written almost decades ago, and tech geeks are still writing informative articles, hoping that someone will get help from them. It's nice to feel that one day, Satoshi was part of this forum, and his posts are still there. Imagine you can say to your grandkids that you have seen many posts from Satoshi in the early days of Bitcoin (I still consider it as early days.

Why are you unlikely to be publicly scammed?
I consider Bitcointalk as one of the safest forums on the internet. The internet is full of scammers, and Bitcointalk is not without scammers. There are scammers, but you are unlikely to get scammed if you talk in public. Remember, scams are not moderated in this forum. Bitcointalk members are unlikely to scam a random person publicly because others will immediately try to save you from fraud (if they notice).

Why it's reliable?
One of the reasons is reputation. Bitcointalk has designed the reputation system very well. The users build their reputation over time by helping others, writing helpful topics/posts, and trading with others. So, if you see a member with a couple of +green feedback under their name, you can trust them (Not all of them). Always check their Trust page before you deal with anyone. Bitcointalk users want to build up their reputation in every possible way. So, most of their intention to help is genuine. Which is why the source they provide is most likely reliable. Yet I suggest you check before you click on anything.

That's what I had in my mind. Feel free to add why you think Bitcointalk is a reliable source!
1064  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do I need a mentor in my bitcoin journey. on: October 03, 2023, 12:43:33 AM
I have made a bold decision to start my bitcoin journey. But just like every a new born baby needs close care and attention to grow I really don't want to make a mistake in any thing I am doing. I have this question to ask.
''Is it advisable to to have a mentor who I can always go to as a newbie in the crypto space or I should rely all my knowledge on things I read online for my growth.

Most online mentors will work for their own profit. I know there are no services as a mentor, but what I mean is everyone will try to use you to get some commission. Start reading more and more and gather more knowledge from various sources. If you know how to search, you will likely get some good results. The first thing to do is select a reputed non-custodial software wallet.

Learn how not to get hacked or tricked. Do not rely on exchanges to keep your Bitcoin. Please do not use them as a wallet. If you have questions during your bitcoin journey, do not hesitate to ask in this community.
1065  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My First Advice To Beginner Traders on: October 03, 2023, 12:29:25 AM
Before I proceed any further it's important to know that sometimes our knowledge outside this forum may not equate our ranks here so  that doesn't mean quality information cannot be gotten from a low ranked person on this forum, some of us are good at what we do outside here.
Okay, these two lines make me interested in reading it in detail. Sometimes, I ignore it when I see tutorial-type posts from newbies. There is a reason behind it. Most of them come into this forum and post AI-generated content to get some quick merits to rank their profile. It's nice to see someone genuinely interested in writing these things from themselves.

one of which is, you get rich quick as soon as you venture in to trading. This has to be the height of falsehood in trading. It's true you can get Rich trading no doubts, but then you will have to put in some work as the wealth doesn't come suddenly or as soon as you start trading, so one should take off such mindset, have a change of such mind set if you did have such before as you may be disappointed sooner than later.

Hehe, this is one hundred percent real, bro. Not only trading but people have this idea about most of the online activities. People think it's easy to make money online, and everyone can do it. People think it's easy to make money from gambling, from Fiverr, from upwork without skills. I am one who makes some pocket money from the internet and people ask me why I don't teach them? They think it's super easy.

1067  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Post your PGP key, add an encrypted message, open for anyone. on: October 02, 2023, 01:34:45 PM
This is really an unexpected development.

If I was creating a thread asking for post review then I think a lot of people would posting their links to review the posts and award merit but when I am asking people to learn a life saving technique then very little number of members are showing interest.

How sad?

I guess you are already better than me. The forum is not like how it should be. People do not join here just because they want to learn something. The purpose of joining his forum changes over time. People usually joined here because they wanted to ask questions, they wanted to write their own thoughts, they wanted to teach people. Now it's changed to making money. It could be by writing posts to fill the post quota, doing bounty, selling services and many more.

Here is the pro tip: change the title to "Get merits by posting your PGP key and encrypted messages" and see the result. Everyone wants to earn merits, but we don't want to learn.

Have fun. You can post the encrypted message here and I will keep it secret until I was asked to decrypt it from you.

Yeah, I have a couple of stupid ideas already. I am thinking of which one will be good  Grin

I think it's beneficial as a business owner for the public to know our location so that interested people can go there easily. I know what you are thinking. You are afraid that he may get robbed or what but I don't think it will happen immediately and for sure there will also be securities and people around the area for it to occur. We are only talking about small business here, so don't worry if the area is not that crowded.

You did not get me, buddy. We are on an internet forum. We don't know each other. I wouldn't say I like to share personal information here. People can create enemies out of thin air. You will never know when you have created your enemy. I could have chosen a different username for my forum account. But I did not. Do you know why? Because I like to remain anonymous.

I don't think I have ever posted my real name here. I am not planning to write it in the future. So, there is no point of sharing my location here. All I can say is how is the are and how crowded it is.
1069  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Inspired Me To Invest In Bitcoin. on: October 02, 2023, 01:16:37 PM
Governments will always seek control, this will especially apply to Bitcoin due to its decentralized nature. Of course, they will try to convince that banks are the best place to store bitcoins, thereby taking control of it.

This is going to be Bitcoiner's 2nd mistake. The first mistake they made was trusting exchanges with their Bitcoin. Bitcoiners are supposed to use exchanges to exchange the coins, and their balance is supposed to remain after the end of the transaction. People started using exchanges as wallets and kept their BTC there even after the end of the trades.

At first, the exchanges weren't collecting users' private data. Slowly, they started asking for private information, and people didn't think twice because exchanges started offering bonuses for their KYC.

Now, if people start using banks for their crypto transactions widely (People already using banks), this is a success for them and a failure of Satoshi's goal.
1070  Economy / Economics / Re: Real estate vs cryptocurrencies vs business on: October 02, 2023, 01:07:32 PM
Which one would you choose from these and why?

I know I will not have half a million dollars for the rest of my life because I know I am not working for it. My target is to live a good life, and I don't want to chase for money. Instead, I am running for happiness, and my limit of happiness is in my family. Now, come back to the topic. Half a million dollars in my country is a good amount. I could choose two from the options you gave. Half the amount on the real estate because it will generate a specific amount of money every month, which will be good. I choose real estate because it's the safest one. I will invest the other half in Cryptocurrency. I will DCA BTC with at least $100K; the rest will be for alts to take a chance in the bull run. Even if I fail with the alts, I hope BTC will return my money in a few years.

Omg same here. Personally, I'd lean towards a diversified approach, real estate and cryptocurrency. Not really into business as it demands too much time and dedication for me that I cannot handle. Maybe invest in real estate for stability and allocate the remaining to cryptocurrencies for potential high returns. Diversification can help spread the risk and increase your chances of long-term financial security. Buying real estate can also be a business in itself. You can generate income by renting out the properties you own and it  can also appreciate its value over time. Smiley

I guess it's not only you and me. The maximum number of members will choose these two options because these are the easiest compared to the business option. A business cannot be started with the money only. A business needs a lot of plan, strategy, and dedication; the last thing you need is money. Only money cannot start a business.

Many rich kids's dad has a million dollars, and those kids can start their business with their dad's money. But this will not happen because those kids will eventually fail the business.

It's true this member might not repeat his mistake anymore and you can still forgive someone for their second offense, but it looks unfair for old member who get banned because of one old plagiarized post.

That depends on moderators! If they feel like they were much stricter back in the old days, and now they want to give chances for the first or 2nd offense, I do not see anything wrong here. The old members who were banned for their first offense should adjust themself and take it with a light heart. If they feel, "I was banned, now they should be banned too," there is no double standard.

I want to say that rules change over time. Sometimes, the same rules apply in different ways. So, old members should let the moderators decide what they should do. All you need is just report and let them do what they want.
1072  Economy / Economics / Re: What would you do in this situation? Invest or save? on: October 02, 2023, 12:55:05 PM
It exclusively depends on what business you are going to start.

Right. It depends on the type of business. Also the 5000 difference is a factor haha pike if it is just the difference, you can just start right? But if there is a huge gap in fund, I think you’ll have to save first before acutally staring the business.

Well, yes. As I said, if most investment goes to the arrangement, you need that fund early to start the business. Businesses like restaurants and similar types need the most investment in decorating and improving the environment. The cost of food is not much; honestly, they have to include many maintenance charges. These charges increase the business cost.

But if you run an e-commerce business that does not have that much cost, you have to spend your money on products and advertisements. You can increase the number of products later.

Well, will wait for next violations from Aliagha790. Usually such users or lose their interest in posting on the forum at all or continue violating. So it could probably take several times of reporting plagiarism and other violations. Okay, we'll wait and do so.

As I said, I found another plagiarism post which I have reported here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1926895.msg62928666#msg62928666
This time, I did not report the post using the report to moderator button. Let's see if any mod takes action, or they may want to give him another chance.

Look at this case, a Hero rank user plagiarized 7 posts and until now he's free from temporary or permanent ban. Nowadays the moderator become more friendly with plagiarism cases, but you don't have to try it. Tongue
I feel like this established member did this at the beginning of their forum journey. No? Did they do it when they were already established? It seems all seven posts were reported at once. Did this member repeat the same practice again after the report? I guess not, which is why he is still free. If mods give a chance for the first or 2nd offense, I won't complain about it.

Plagiarism.
User who plagiarizes

Aliagha790

Aliagha790 shows different ways of plagiarizing.

These posts were removed. According to the Bpip.org, the user is still free. So, either mods gave him another chance or he deleted the post himself. Here is another plagiarism case where he copied the whole post from Bitcoinmagazine.com,

User: Aliagha790

Post:

It all started with the Bitcoin crash in 2017. I thought, "What the hell did I get myself into?" All the money I put into Bitcoin last year was down 80%. Little by little I reduced my decision to leave and my newfound wealth before my eyes. What I thought was one of the most important investments turned my gift in an instant into one of my worst nightmares. After days of disbelief, I embarked on a journey to understand what this Bitcoin is and how I can make the most of what I have left. I'm originally from Rocket City (a.k.a. Huntsville, Alabama) – where the main stakes are whether you're an Alabama or Auburn fan and checking who you disclose that information to – but here I am. . They faced the most challenging of them. The question all new bitcoiners have: Is it time to sell? I know people reading this are probably screaming, "Absolutely not!" But in 2017, it seemed unthinkable. This is partly why I'm interested in teaching Bitcoin newbies because I've been at that stage before. Being a newbie myself, I researched and bought almost everything bitcoin so I could learn.
I am "Internet Money" written by Andreas M. I read Antonopoulos, watched a lot of YouTube videos, and listened to the Cellar Tales podcast, including things my wife still hasn't forgiven me for. However, reading "The Bitcoin Standard" by Saifedean Ammous was when I was completely clueless. My fascination and discovery turned into complete Bitcoin evangelism to family, friends, strangers at the grocery store, and anyone who would listen. To my surprise, almost everyone I spoke to listened to them and still thanks me for introducing them to the hardest money ever.
The Rocket City Bitcoin meeting was the first step, but I had to join the Twittersphere. I didn't know how to be interesting, so I decided to be interested. Interested in what others are doing, saying, selling or starting. I noticed people; If someone needed something someone else was offering, I would connect them. Engaging others and experiencing this journey together is something I am committed to and passionate about. I urge everyone to turn their families, friends and social circles orange. Start a conversation with them in a way that they can understand and not give up. They want to know why you are interested in Bitcoin. Take your commitment a step further and organize a meeting or attend in your neighboring towns. Your community support will go a long way. For those who are interested in Bitcoin but don't know where to start, I suggest reading the books mentioned earlier and attending a local Bitcoin meetup. Ask questions, gain understanding, and build community. Newbies miss out on opportunities because it seems hard to follow, but if you ask questions and seek understanding, you'll walk away empowered instead of discouraged. Interest in others is how I started this journey. I have made wonderful friendships and met incredible mentors along the way. With their guidance, I have met and developed my local network. And I'm just getting started. I want to personally thank God, the members of the Rocket City Bitcoin Meetup and my co-organizer, my closest friends and mentors, my Austin Bitcoin family – especially Pleb Lab – the organizers and members of the Nashville Meetup, and the Bitcoin Ohio family. Special thanks to Car Gonzales for pushing me out of my comfort zone and inspiring me to write this article and Texas Slim for telling me "I don't need to ask permission".

Yes, I've reported him for plagiarism for two other cases.

Both posts were deleted, but the user wasn't banned yet. BPIP did not show anything yet. So, this user's current status is he is still free to post. I have found another plagiarism of this user. This time, this guy copied and pasted a story from Bitcoinmagazine.com. The mods seem to give these users chances who have not contributed anything to the forum yet.

But we have seen somewhat established users who were banned for a single plagiarism case. Some members were temporarily banned for simple copy lines. How many chances they may get from mods?

It exclusively depends on what business you are going to start. I am not in your position. I can advise whatever I think, but it might not match your business plan. You should not consider people's plans in your business. You are the one who knows what you should do. I don't know what business you are planning for. If you can start the business with the $15K, you can go for it. If not, wait a little more.

For example, if you are planning for a restaurant business where most expenses are on buying furniture, decorations and other things, the food does not cost that much. You cannot start without a proper decoration. Otherwise, it will create a bad image of your business. So, as I said, it depends on what business you are planning.

Of course, financially, bitcoin gives us freedom from government control but I don't think that's the top priority. I think its profit is what we prioritize and care about more,  then privacy.

Indeed, we prioritize the profit. But do you think it should be the main priority over privacy? Of course, the main purpose of Bitcoin was to help people get rid of the banks and the government's slavery. But we mix it up, and we use banks with bitcoin and give them all our personal data, which they use against us. The government wants it's share from people trading earnings. The government has no role in a freelancer's life yet wants the commission from their earnings. So, the priority varies from one person to another person. Some people extremely care about their privacy. They barely care about profit.

Oh. Why does it take too long to understand that CSW is scumbag? What makes them think that CSW could be a real Satoshi? I always thought that all his employees knew he was a scumbag, but they still work for money. But the case seems different for the CEO of nChain. The hashtag he used is #Faketoshi, which also makes me laugh and happy.

Since when he was relevant ever? If there has been discussions about him on this forum is because people either shill for him or make fun of him.
I don't think Bitcointalk people ever cared about CSW. We all know he is a scammer! I don't remember correctly, but maybe Suchmoon had a thread about his scams. I could be wrong.
1080  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin be accepted as a dominant currency in the future? on: September 30, 2023, 03:36:39 PM
What is your opinion on this topic?

I don't know what will happen in the near future. But Bitcoin is much more popular today than it was back in 2015. Slowly but surely, people will understand the usage of Bitcoin. The new generations are getting interested in it. As long as it spreads worldwide, the government also minimizes its usage. But, due to it's nature, people love it.

It will continue to spread as long as people care about their privacy. Bitcoin does not have to be a dominant currency. If countries regulate Bitcoin usage, there is no point in using Bitcoin anymore.
