Make some researches yourself. Bitcoin and crypto generally is about DYOR. Anything you do not understand, you can ask on this forum. There is nothing better than you to have the knowledge and understanding about bitcoin.

In the process of seeking for advice, some people may want to scam you, avoid people and make research yourself.

Welcome to Bitcointalk mate.

There's nothing wrong in having a mentor mate. as long as they don't impact you with wrong information. Also, there are lots of experts here on the forum you would want to learn from. I would have love to recommend some names but it won't be nice to do that. A lot of people here on Bitcointalk deserves to be a mentor. As they are good in their own way.
The best advice is for you to do proper research before taking any step. The crypto journey is fill with lot of amazing experience and also negative ones. So long you are ready to be exposed and open minded, you will be good in no time. Lastly, I would advice you to take your time to study the forum and ask questions on matter you don't understand relating to Bitcoin as there are lots of persons here to help you through your Bitcoin journey.

Probably. What happens is that you don't need a mentor to accompany you from now on and necessarily in all the steps. Use the forum, learn, and when you learn things, you will have doubts about what you have learned. Then you can ask questions in the threads or open threads yourself. In that sense you can have several mentors or if you see that one is the one who gives you the most clarifications, consider him as your mentor.

I have made a bold decision to start my bitcoin journey. But just like every a new born baby needs close care and attention to grow I really don't want to make a mistake in any thing I am doing. I have this question to ask.
''Is it advisable to to have a mentor who I can always go to as a newbie in the crypto space or I should rely all my knowledge on things I read online for my growth.
A mentor is can be referred to an adviser. I don't think it is a bad idea to admire someone who you think is knowledgeable about Bitcoin and gain some vital information from them. I have contacted some persons personally to seek clarification on several issues relating to Bitcoin and it has been very helpful. Following people on social media that you think are sound can be also helpful. But it is important to always verify the information you get from your mentor this is why you need other sources of information. There is no information that you need about bitcoin that cannot be accessed through books and the internet.

I prefer not to have close ties with any individual because people can change their ideology and mentees can be easily influenced by mentors. Some Bitcoin early adopters lost faith in the coin and began to promote FUD and altcoins. People that saw these derailed early adopters as their mentors can be easily deceived that is why it is important to do your own research in most cases.

There is absolutely nothing wrong for someone to seek a mentor or guide on things you don’t know but the problem has always been finding that right person to guide someone most especially if it is something that has to do with money. Just like others have started I would say this forum offers you with those guide you need.

There is no better teacher than your own experience, so whenever you wish to learn a thing and you’re finding it difficult you can just use the forum search engine to find out or create a thread when you can’t find answers, there are experts on bitcoin matters here.

Also just one last piece of advise do not rely totally on any financial advice here without carrying out your own research

not necessarily, but you can ask, though I'm not sure if someone will be interested. the best thing you can do is do your own research, if you have doubts and questions that need to be answered but are having trouble finding answers, you can ask the question here in the forum.

welcome to the forum by the way!

if you are curious about educational bitcoin/blockchain-related videos I suggest following Andreas Antonopoulos, he has a YouTube channel, you might find his video very helpful.

First you don't have the basic knowledge to be able to understand the characters you want your mentor to have so you made not make the best decision when you selecting a mentor, I am not saying it's not important but I don't think it's the first thing you need right now.

First as a newbie you need to understand what Bitcoin and Crypto-currency is all about, you don't need to have an expert knowledge just the basics and you can find that by doing your research and you have this forum to always ask your questions. Then after you must have gained so bit of knowledge you should be able to understand which path you want to follow and which mentor best suits you

It’s your own investor. You should be responsible on all the decision making because mentor will just confuse you when he give an advice that doesn’t fit to your preference.

It’s better to read previous discussion here and learned from the reputable users advice instead of just asking someone about something you want to know because no one here will be interested to dedicate their time on answering your questions. Bitcointalk has a rich source of info which answer almost all your questions. Just use the search function of the forum.

''Is it advisable to to have a mentor who I can always go to as a newbie in the crypto space or I should rely all my knowledge on things I read online for my growth.
If you talk about 'travel', especially when it comes to Bitcoin or some other type of crypto and includes the crypto market, the experience I have had, If possible, I suggest sticking to both, don't clap with one hand, playing crypto is a definite risk, sometimes we can be successful and sometimes we can be unlucky, The consequences depend on which part of the journey you choose and carry out, investment, transaction, trading or other things.

For me, diving into the world of Bitcoin, Mentors and your own knowledge are both the most important factors that must be adhered to, you should not be guided by just one source, If you want to be successful in your Bitcoin journey, a mentor's knowledge or experience, especially in the field of the Bitcoin market, prediction, speculation, analysis, is important to achieve your goals and the knowledge or experience you gain outside is also much more important to achieve your goals, The point is you have to use both hands, as I said above, don't clap with one hand.

And what did you have in mind for the figure of a mentor (were it to be the case)?
I mean people are not really going to perform that role on a dedicated individual basis, but rather, more collectively through Q&As on threads on the forum. You’ll then have to learn to distinguish the wheat from the chaff, which will take some time, and even so, mistakes are bound to be made on some sort or another.

I’m with _act_ on this one: the more context and content you can absorb through reading (or viewing) material, the better, thus narrowing down the uncertainty to levels you can probably get to resolve through Q&As here out in the open (and not through PMs for the most).

Don't think that you'll make a mistake upon your move although that could really happen for the first timers and there will be a valuable lesson with that mistake. But if you just stick to the plan that you'll make like holding and you won't sell anytime then just so be it.

''Is it advisable to to have a mentor who I can always go to as a newbie in the crypto space or I should rely all my knowledge on things I read online for my growth.
You can think of those reading materials and the authors of it as your mentors, so it could be both. You're in the best forum where mentors are just lowkey here and willing to give you piece of advice on what you should do. But not everyone that will give you a tip could do good for you. You make yourself a plan, DYOR and if there's something that you don't undestand then start being vocal and post those questions here and everyone is gonna welcome you with different opinions that could be good for your decision making.

Mentor will help you make your journey a little easier as you will have who to ask question about things that get you confused if it’s a good one they will have to help you iron things down to the level of your understanding then from their base on your acquired knowledge you can do your own learning, do some search online both in this forum and develop your own self to establish that knowledge that you need to excel in the industry.

The best mentor that one need is one self you can only bring out the best version of your self towards what you want to achieve if you can train your self to reach that heights.

I think you have to read a lot to increase your knowledge about cryptocurrencies, getting guidance from seniors is good but you can't keep bothering them, I was a beginner too but I didn't have a mentor to increase my knowledge, I read a lot and I just asked a few trusted members a little, believe me as long as you read well and painstakingly your insight into Bitcoin will develop.

BIG WINNER!

In the process of seeking for advice, some people may want to scam you, avoid people and make research yourself.

Appreciate the thought here but, just like me, as a student, I really am seeking for help just like the author as I intend to learn how crypto works on backend as I saw the history its kinda mindblowing and I'm really too late for it...
So as a headstart, hmmm maybe a few can help, ...
And btw I also don't understand how people will try scam anyone if they're just seeking for an advice or an idea to have? Will they be asking for payment, if that's what you mean?

Just to add...

<…>
...
I’m with _act_ on this one: the more context and content you can absorb through reading (or viewing) material, the better, thus narrowing down the uncertainty to levels you can probably get to resolve through Q&As here out in the open (and not through PMs for the most).

I sometimes or maybe some, most of the times rather, or just me being lazy, IDK. But reading ain't be enough for me to understand the whole thing especially when it comes to loops 'n hoops

You are asking a very dumb question, Your question must be like which mentor should I follow in my Bitcoin journey. And you are in doubt, that whether you should have a mentor or not. I mean, in all fields of the universe, a mentor (a loyal and good one) is like a BTC to early adopters. You should find one and when you will find a good one try to refer it to other newbies too.

It is not like, that hard to find a good mentor, but in the BTC sphere, you will come to face many fake mentors who will pretend like they are better than anyone else and you only need them. And in the end, they will be the first to scam you with your money in the form of huge fees.

It is better to not rely on mentors fully, try to educate yourself by making your own efforts. Because spoon feeding is not going to work in the BTC era. You have to make efforts on your own. And you do have to leave your comfort zone.

There are many ways to scam you most especially a total newbie, yes the first scam can be from request by the scammer to have you pay for services that are actually free but that isn’t the biggest threat. The threat is when the person or probably scammer guiding you set u up to give them things like seed phrases or keys which automatically make them co-owner of your wallet. Someone without knowledge would gladly do that even though it seems a trick that can be dictated by a pro.

Better do not underestimate anything about scamming even the most knowledgeable ended getting In involved in one or two. Because as the technology advances so do they. Just like the advice at top, do your research and ask questions but stay away from people willing to help you in your PM. A genuine help would come publicly except other wise

You should first get knowledge from different mentors and do not rely all on your knowledge because sometimes, you are taking one thing for another and get into confusion and the doubts and queries in your mind during your own research will be there and will become a problem for you. So to overcome them you do need a mentor

But mentors are not free, you might get answers to your 1 or 2 queries on YT or any Fb Channel in the comments but if you have more than 1 or 2 queries then you do have to buy a paid membership of some good mentor. But be careful in cryptocurrency, not every mentor is the one who they are telling you they are.

You have to be smart enough to judge a good one, try to do some research on google on how to find a good mentor, and then try to search differently on Social media.

I see, PMs...
Yeah, put a thought on that as I think here in this forum things should be publicly posted as to give hints on the others too. Still wondering whether there are still people getting fooled by the basics? Ain't that a common knowledge before you enter the internet? LoL

I have done some reading and checked other stuff here, but it seems more people are quite addictive on casinos so maybe, I might get a hang of making an app based on what I'm seeing. A long way for me to go before these happens  Grin
