1061  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bad Day for Bitcoin. Cryptsy finally admitted theft and Mike Hearn tells truth on: January 15, 2016, 03:01:12 PM
we knew this would happen.  Come on!  There are major players who do NOT want Bitcoin to succeed and 2015 was a little too good.

Bitcoin had a banner year in 2015
-RECORD money invested in startups
-lots of press and more mainstream press
-low on scandals
-record volume
-healthy price
-anticipation of the 2016 halving
-banks SCRAMBLING to get in with their fabulous blockchains

Then we see tons of articles in the last month that 2016 will be the year and here comes the halving!

So Hearn wants to abandon AND discredit something he has worked so hard on and been invaluable to??  Why not keep on truckin and work to find a solution.  I was raised NEVER to give up.

True believers in the technology and what it can do for the world with be here after all the weak hands have left.

If you are touting that you are selling all your coins, you didn't believe in the first place or you are invested over your head or budget.

What we need right now is that guy that shows up and says "Welcome to Bitcoin Motherfuc$er"

1062  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bad Day for Bitcoin. Cryptsy finally admitted theft and Mike Hearn tells truth on: January 15, 2016, 02:08:16 PM
For everyone who holds bitcoin well done I take my hat off to you. But I am afraid the same will happen as when all the other major exchanges were hacked. Its not exactly in the news yet. Probably the big boys are getting rid of their stash until they start with the big announcement. Cryptsy was one of the main exchanges whether you like it or not and they do not even know how they were hacked. Its scary for everyone. I will come back on this thread to tomorrow and I can bet you any money it has gone down at least by 20%.. Hopefully it will recover as people say but it wont be unaffected by such a big exchange going down. Sorry ANOTHER big exchange going down.

Anyway its all speculation but when this has happened time and time again that's just the way it goes.

It IS all over the news as we speak.  This is just another bump in the road and all I see are cheap coins - it will work itself out.  The technology cannot be controlled by one person.  I try to avoid telling people when to buy or sell because it is volatile and I am not an expert.
1063  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mike Hearns Bitcoin statements amount to price manipulation, on: January 15, 2016, 02:03:32 PM
Really not seeing what he means, and to have it as part of a Newyork Times article

Bitcoin is to restore faith in Humanity so wow his Shaken humanity is shaking even more,

these kinds of statements in the article are those of someone who has heavily

vested interests and its even proven by his employment which remains in the

Bitcoin industry,

FUD RATING 10/10

totally interesting how he gets a NYTimes story for his rant.  This morning mainstream media is all over it.  Also interesting that this all comes within 48 hours of Paypal brining aboard the Xapo guy.  Someone, something, some organization, wanted this to happen.  Doesn't matter, Bitcoin has been through worse.
1064  Economy / Exchanges / Re: cryptsy hacked - bigvern on cryptsy blog on: January 15, 2016, 04:43:34 AM
boy is this a busy night for Bitcoin - Cryptsy officially announcing some crazy Trojan stuff and Hearn being so passionate about Bitcoin that he sold his coins  Huh Roll Eyes
1065  Economy / Services / Re: YoBit.Net - Signature Campaign - Realtime Payouts (daily) on: January 15, 2016, 04:41:12 AM
Withdraw button on yobit does not seem to be working.

If you look above there are several posts about the button not working.  This happens from time to time and always gets resolved.
1066  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hearn's "Faith in Humanity Shaken" after People Awaken to His EVIL Plan! on: January 15, 2016, 04:32:47 AM
Love to hear the old-timers' opinions.  It's only been like 6 years, but 2009 seems so long ago in bitcoin-time.

My faith in humanity has already been shaken and that's why I don't leave my abode much.  I shall make this my reading for tonight--I didn't know who Mike Hearn was and why all these threads had been created based on what he's been spouting.  Oh well, people come and go.

count me in on wanting to hear from old school bitcoiners.  I do not know enough technically about some of the issues he brings up to understand 100% of it.

[Non-technical explanation]

Fixing the blocksize does not require check-pointing and circumventing traditional means of consensus. Mike Hearn intended to force a change in bitcoin's behavior (hard fork) using a term he called the "economic consensus." This term can be used interchangeably with the word "banks."

Mike thought all he needed was banker-owned Coinbase (any perhaps Bitpay) to support his "bitcoin frankenstein" and the fork would proceed. His attitude was - screw mining consensus - and screw the miners in China. There is even a video on YouTube of him saying that, "if the Chinese miners don't like it, they should start their own Altcoin."

These types of statements, intentions, and beliefs are dangerous, and certainly not in the spirit of Satoshi's bitcoin.

Great! thanks,  I get it.  Given that China holds the most Bitcoin and does the most mining he had to have been crazy to say those things - or else this is some kind of plan to give BTC bad press.

1068  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Bitcoin is Dead" - Mike Hearn on: January 15, 2016, 02:35:48 AM
Bitcoin Classic rolls out, and days later there is no word about it in the News Media.

Mike Hearn declares Bitcoin dead and within hours it is in the New York Times.....
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/17/business/dealbook/the-bitcoin-believer-who-gave-up.html

Mark my words: Bitcoin is getting ready to be in a fight for it's life.

On one side are the Blockstream/Core players.  Liars, manipulators, shill, not afraid to destroy the fabric of Bitcoin with every bit of FUD they can dredge up - even if it kills bitcoin, but if they can't have total control, no one can.

On the other side you have Mike Hearn w/R3CEV/Hyperledger/Banks (AND Mainstream Media & Govt backing - don't forget that!)

We are at the start of a foot race to see who gets ready forst for the upcoming global financial meltdown.

It's pretty clear that Bitcoin Classic will prevail in the upcoming March Fork given the huge amount of support / concensus for it.  But Blockstream seems to wat to make this a do or die fight, and they appear to be willing to destroy the good name of bitcoin if they don't get their way.  The looming battle may be the perfect backdrop of confusion and chaos for a Fiat Coin to rise from the shadows, and with the help of Gov't & Media nods - be introduced to the masses.

Fasten your seatbelts kiddies.... this is going to be a wild ride.  Right now I am betting 50% on Classic / 50% on Fiat Coin.  Current 1mb Blockstream/Core Coin not even worth mentioning in my opinion.  I see 0.001%.

Wow how quickly the New York Times gets on this.  Where were they for positive news. I believe that you are right that it is time to buckle up. He does have some valid points but this is a little nuts.  Is it true that after walking out of a store you can reverse a bitcoin transaction from the seller??
1069  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: which altcoins have ruined your life? on: January 14, 2016, 07:08:20 PM
What exactly do you mean "ruined your life"? If you play this game smart, no coin can ruin your life. Do not spend what you cannot afford to lose.

Exactly!

I as well would like to know what the scale is for "ruined your life"?  I know it can be both time and money, just asking.
1070  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Warren Buffet buying bitcoin? on: January 14, 2016, 07:05:12 PM
I bet he is buying bitcoin.
The price is really low at the moment (and he know that), so why not investing a few 100k in bitcoins?

He can make huge Profits in the future.

Now that I think of it you have to wonder why he WOULDN'T just grab a few 100k like you said.  Even though he has publicly dissed Bitcoin it may not be the case anymore.
1071  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: OpenBazaar Opening ? on: January 14, 2016, 05:14:50 PM
There is an ongoing section on Reddit regarding this where the developers are reporting in. This project is so exciting and has TREMENDOUS game changing possibilities in the way people buy and sell goods online.  I am waiting with pure hope and excitement!  Go OpenBazaar development team Go!
1072  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoins Survive Without Bank Or Any Financial Institution? on: January 14, 2016, 04:52:30 PM
Of course.  The purpose of the creator/creators was for Bitcoin to be independent. There are many good sources out there to read about the original intentions of Bitcoin and the possibilities - all are without banks.
1073  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russians Can Pay Internet and Phone Bills with Bitcoin without Fees on: January 14, 2016, 04:50:20 PM
Russian citizens can now pay their bills for internet and mobile phones with Bitcoin. Megafon, Beeline and other popular operators now accept Bitcoins through such services as Cryptonator and 7pay.in. Such services can make BitcoinCT r:  10 more attractive for ordinary Russian users.

Article : http://cointelegraph.com/news/116026/russians-can-pay-internet-and-phone-bills-with-bitcoin-without-fees

It's good news even if I don't understand anymore what the hell is going on on Russia , I thought they banned bitcoin  Huh

This is a very good news!! Banned?ultimately they get a lot of false information on Russia by the media (especially the American media)

Yes great news!  Anytime Bitcoin becomes an option as payment, especially for utilities, it is a win!  I too thought I heard about Russia banning it but thought it was just a press statement and not anything that actually had legs.
1074  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do people use so many Bitcoin wallets? on: January 14, 2016, 04:45:00 PM
You know its been discussed in some threads but seriously still confused. Well this quote always posted here:

'Don't put all your eggs in one basket'

Hope you got it.

This is my standpoint with wallets. I am that kind of person that does not like anything all in one basket. I currently have 4 but the reason for that is some wallets do not support other altcoins like litecoin and dogecoin.  I also feel it is just a bit safer - if something is going wrong with one wallet - which we have seen - then I can quickly transfer to an already established one.  Coinbase is my main man for Bitcoin, feel safest with them.
1075  Economy / Economics / Re: Do You Think Bitcoin Will Replace Dollar Soon? on: January 14, 2016, 04:50:25 AM
Yes true.  15 years from now there will be some digital currency that replaces paper money and USD, more than likely that currency will be Bitcoin.  I cannot see it replacing dollar within the next 5 years, it is going to need some more time.
1076  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Why do you need PayPal ? on: January 14, 2016, 04:17:11 AM
I agree with above posts that it is so widely accepted and really the only mainstream option.  It is simple to set up on your site for ecommerce payments but the fees are too much.  The protection on purchases is robust.
1077  Economy / Economics / Re: Should I believe in Bitcoin ? on: January 14, 2016, 02:57:40 AM
Never a good idea to couple "fear" with investing.  Maybe investing is too much for you and more conservative approaches would work.  You are asking this question in a forum where most people are hear because they already believe in the technology.
1078  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Warren Buffet buying bitcoin? on: January 14, 2016, 02:51:59 AM
That is highly unlikely as he has publicly separated himself to have anything to do with it and said it will not last so do not invest or put anything towards it's growth.
He does not see it as a viable currency or have a future.
Narrow minded thinking.

This. There was some press back in December of 2014 that he was quoted as saying "stay away from bitcoin".  Would definitely be interesting if he is changing his tune. Where are you getting your latest information on Warren Buffet?  Do you have a link?
1079  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Casualty List on: January 14, 2016, 01:54:05 AM
Wait, what am I missing here about Xapo?  That article is about a fundraising round, which is the exact opposite of becoming a casualty.  Also, Cryptsy still hasn't officially bit the dust yet.  Soon, though.
That $40 million was raised 18 months ago in 2014 - spent now, xapo is in ruins - and their head man just took a new job.  I guess that pretty much means: dead.  They will pretend to be 'just fine' for awhile longer to try to shake out some value somewhere - but you can believe me - they are dead.

Cryptsy has been dead a long time.  You might not like to believe it, but they are very dead.  Dead, dead, dead.  Maybe you need to actually see a funeral before you believe it, but they are actually dead once the heart stops beating.

Xapo - I have not heard anything about it being in troulble, quite the opposite in that they got a record amount of funding.. He is still CEO of Xapo, just becoming a board member of Paypal.  If anything Paypal will buy Xapo.
1080  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin & Paypal on: January 13, 2016, 08:57:48 PM
These are amazing news and I've no doubts it will have a MAJOR impact more than anything else in the upcoming months. The goal it's clearly Bitcoin & Paypal integration since Wences Casares has been running Xapo with the intention to make it more user friendly and get mainstream adoption for some time now. If Paypal and Bitcoin could have a more fluid integration, buying and selling Bitcoin with the click of a button just imagine the potential.

What does Paypal gain in this?  Remaining relevant in a future with only Bitcoin?
