10661  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger's Valentine's Offer on: February 04, 2020, 11:29:48 AM
Another Ledger Nano X & Ledger Nano S bundle? They seriously want people to choose/use Ledger Nano X as their main hardware wallet rather than Ledger Nano S

Nano X is being promoted as a mobile HW (on the go) because it has Bluetooth, which is combined with Ledger Live mobile app. Definitely a far safer option than any mobile wallet, especially for those who like to spend some coins in physical stores. On the other hand, the Nano S is being promoted as an HW that never leaves home/apartment security and where most of the assets are stored. This definitely makes sense to me, but while the price of the Nano X is still quite high for most, the older model won't be so easy to forget.

Does anyone know about the upcoming occasions when new discounts that could occur?

Probably on the occasion of Easter, and maybe halving. For those who are considering buying an HW, any opportunity like this is a good thing. €59 savings it's not something that looks bad.

As far as I can see the situation with the volcano has not calmed down yet, it may be the people who are already affected by these or those who may have problems in the future due to new eruptions and earthquakes may be the ones who will most need help. Given that it is only the beginning of the year, I agree that you should consider where it would be best to direct donations.

No matter what children were in focus last year, they are always an option, as are the homeless. What about those who may need medical help but can't afford it, do people in your country have free health insurance?

It may be something that is not directly related to your charity work, but I wonder if you would be interested in looking at what this organization is doing and maybe your country can become one of those who will join this global movement. 1.6 million children are provided 1 meal each day, and Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow is truly a man with a great vision.

10663  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Shanghai Stock Market down 8% - Bitcoin’s On-chain Transaction Volume up by 45% on: February 04, 2020, 10:10:05 AM
~snip~

I think there is a big misconception that money is flowing from one market to another when it comes to Bitcoin. Stock traders or traders in any other markets still do not see Bitcoin as a safe haven, and still generally turn to gold, silver or bonds. Take, for example, bonds with negative interest, the value of that market was around $15 trillion last year, and it is go up 3 times in only 1 year.

Why didn't some of that money go to Bitcoin, and we are talking about $10 trillion (more than the value of all gold)? Because bonds even with a negative interest rate is a far safer investment than Bitcoin (for most investors).
10664  Other / Meta / Re: Send shady merits on: February 04, 2020, 09:45:13 AM
I was surprised at the price of a merit, it was terrible  Roll Eyes as I said above, maybe his account was hacked, he didn't work for a long time.

Maybe someone will dig up something relevant about his account and the possible connection with the accounts he sent merits. I think it's somewhere in 2015 or 2016 buying/selling accounts on forum become something that has become negative and DT members start to tag such accounts. Before that it was quite normal, selling and buying accounts was a legitimate business, and some members have a dozen of them, which is not against forum rules.

Problems arise when these accounts are used to abuse signature campaigns or for merit abuse. Airdropped merits on these accounts have become something that can be sold for a decent price. For example, Legendary accounts get 200 merits (in my case), and if you sell them for only $5 each it is easy $1000.
10665  Other / Meta / Re: Send shady merits on: February 03, 2020, 02:50:13 PM
So my question, what is their relationship? It seems that Merit is being abused without any punishment for such things  Huh Any other comments, let me know what you think  Roll Eyes

Very likely this is about XinXan is sending merits to his alt accounts, or he is selling merits. I read somewhere that the average price of 1 merit on black market is around $5 or more, so it doesn't surprise me that there are such suspicious transactions.

I think there is very little that can be done, everyone is almost completely free to give his merits to any post, no matter what the post is about. I think this kind of thing primarily discourages some users who have a very good post/s but no one rewards them with even 1 merit.
10666  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Shanghai Stock Market down 8% - Bitcoin’s On-chain Transaction Volume up by 45% on: February 03, 2020, 02:20:06 PM
Even if the data from the OP is correct, the volume up and number of new wallets so far have no effect on the price. The whole virus situation is exaggerated, of course, thanks to the media who want the whole thing to look as dramatic as possible. This winter, tens of thousands of people will die from the effects of the common flu and this will not create any panic. This virus is actually doing the same thing, weakening the immunity of mostly elderly people (average age of dead is about 70).

But this virus seems to be spreading around the world, it is unfortunate but expect a bit of an uptrend due to this unforeseen event (which might add to the halving expectancy).

The reason the virus spreads around the world is quarantine, which is not really a real quarantine. Foreign nationals are evacuated daily, and there are many illegal crossings at the Chinese border. By that, I mean illegal migration and human trafficking that doesn't care about people's well-being or health - the West constantly needs cheap labor, and China has a problem with the population surplus.

10667  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ Coinmama ] is this a legitimate exchange where I can entrust my credit card? on: February 03, 2020, 01:53:31 PM
That's not accurate if you use a well developed platform like BISQ.

I have nothing against BISQ, but from what I read and what they post on their site it seems that the platform is not used by a large number of people, which can be seen by the number of the last 100 transactions, which implies a problem with liquidity. I also do not see any trade in Singapore dollar, which may be relevant to the OP.
10668  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcointalk Charity Program - Give Hope To Everyone $1 Is A Big Thing For Them on: February 03, 2020, 11:54:34 AM
My Greatest Thank to All Donators & Supporters of this Charity. It was a Great Experience for me to be part of this.

As one of the donors, I can only say that I am pleased that another charity event has been successfully done, and I would also like to thank those who deserve credit for putting every idea into action. Sometimes it may be easiest to donate money, but the hard part is organizing what will be done with the money. Big thanks to cabalism13&crwth for their time and to take care of those who need it most.

Are there any new plans, maybe something similar for Easter?

SORRY FOR THE CAT... DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS PART OF IT Smiley

Maybe the cat could be used as a mascot, in any case, for anyone who loves animals, a cat is just a nice addition to all the other pictures Wink
10669  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: How to protect yourself from fake giveaways. on: February 03, 2020, 11:31:44 AM
How to protect yourself from fake giveaways: Don't join giveaways.

It's easy to say, but hard to put into practice when it comes to human nature that one can hardly refuse something for free. Because of that fact scams are so successful, and unfortunately, no one can prevent inexperienced internet users from being cheated. The key to all is education, but not the one they will get in this forum, but the one they need to get from their parents and in primary school before they become Internet users.

Using social networks is dangerous for those who are unaware of how dangerous this tool is, and I personally don't see what people are looking for in all this connection with others. I actually understand that this is a trend, you have to have Telegram, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, and all possible communication apps, but I can live only with Viber and a few e-mails.

I can agree that in some cases it is better to avoid giveaways and even social networks, sometimes the damage is much greater than the benefit.
10670  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ Coinmama ] is this a legitimate exchange where I can entrust my credit card? on: February 03, 2020, 11:11:54 AM
KYC is something that becomes almost inevitable if you want to buy BTC completely legally and at low fees. Everything else comes down to p2p and crypto ATMs, where in the first case there is a high possibility of fraud - and ATMs have fairly high fees ranging from 5% to 10% which is certainly not negligible if someone is buying larger quantities of BTC.

Considering that OP is asking for opportunities for buying BTC in Singapore/Malaysia my advice is to try to find some local exchange. Some of the options can be seen at the following links.

10671  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Popularize Bitcoin with another way : lasers and technology danceshow on: February 03, 2020, 10:45:30 AM
Do you have a link I could put in the description for people who wants to know more about bitcoin? (Something basic and interesting)

You probably know that there are also so-called BTC forks (copies of original BTC), pay attention to this when adding links. There are many who promote BTC, but not the original ones, but some of their own versions.

For a start you can add a link to Bitcoin.org, which contains all the essential information for beginners, but as well for those who already have some experience. For those who want to know a little more about the history of Bitcoin and the creator Satoshi Nakamoto Institute.
10672  Economy / Economics / Re: A glimpse at Japan's economic relationship with China. on: February 02, 2020, 03:25:33 PM
Good observation, but I think not only Japan is affected by the situation in China regarding the coronavirus (and the bird flu epidemic should not be forgotten). Also, although many see Japan as a thriving country, they have no idea that Japan has the largest debt in the world (who would have thought that?)

Japan, with its population of 127,185,332, has the highest national debt in the world at 234.18% of its GDP, followed by Greece at 181.78%. Japan's national debt currently sits at ¥1,028 trillion ($9.087 trillion USD). After the stock market crashed in Japan, the government bailed out banks and insurance companies and provided them with low-interest credit. Banking institutions had to be consolidated and nationalized after a period of time and other fiscal stimulus initiatives were used to help reboot the struggling economy. Unfortunately, these actions caused Japan’s debt level to skyrocket.

This situation is something that can only aggravate Japan's economic situation, especially if we look at the fact that many countries are actually in a technical recession. Interestingly, Japanese exports fall throughout 2019 (every month) and wages are also going down in seven months (from 10). This only means that things have gone downhill long before, Japan is feeling the effects of the US-China trade war.
10673  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum - Privacy issue (Windows) on: February 02, 2020, 02:44:49 PM
the fix is simple, the following lines should be edited to exclude the balance from the tooltip:

So fix is simple, but can only be done by Electrum developers in next version/s?

Pmalek, in my case it is still there after 4 days, but for anyone who does not share his PC or sent it for repair, there is no real danger. In some cases, it may be better to live in blissful ignorance than to burden yourself with little things Wink
10674  Bitcoin / Press / Swiss municipality (Zermatt) tax office now accepts-bitcoin! on: February 02, 2020, 02:32:02 PM
Switzerland has been crypto and blockchain-friendly country for years now, and it still continues to improve its levels of adoption. The most recent example of this comes from its municipality of Zermatt, which just announced that its locals will now be able to pay for taxes and other official transactions with Bitcoin... While the move is still rather significant for the growing crypto adoption in Switzerland — and everywhere else — it is also worth noting that Zermatt is not the first, nor the second municipality to start accepting tax payments in Bitcoin...

Swiss municipality (Zermatt) tax office now accepts-bitcoin!

Good news for Bitcoin from Switzerland again, after Zug and Chiasso, another small town (6000 inhabitants) Zermatt gives its residents the ability to pay taxes with Bitcoin. I personally find this very good news, given the constant attacks by certain media on Bitcoin that portray it as being used only by criminals or as consuming enormous amounts of electricity and destroying the environment.

If we look at economically and technologically advanced countries like Switzerland, Germany or Japan where Bitcoin is welcomed with open arms, one does not need to be too intelligent to conclude who is smart in this story and who is stupid.

10675  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Popularize Bitcoin with another way : lasers and technology danceshow on: February 02, 2020, 02:04:32 PM
Definitely something that can attract a younger population, and I have to admit it looks pretty good. However, I think the video might be a little longer and a bit more relevant information could be presented. The only thing I don't like (and probably won't like most who will watch the video), is the quote you used in the end, not because of the quote itself, but because of the fact that that person is actually betrayed Bitcoin.

Fortunately, there is enough material that can be used in your presentation - you can definitely use the most famous sayings of Satoshi Nakamoto.

Something interesting, for extra inspiration Wink

10676  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Invest Crypto on: February 02, 2020, 12:09:02 PM
smith morgan, there is no right answer to the question you are asking because there are people who strongly support Bitcoin and also those who will very clearly tell you that such an investment is a bad idea. I think this forum definitely has a lot more of those first, which is quite logical considering this is a Bitcoin forum.

Why you want to invest your savings in BTC, have you studied your country's rules regarding cryptocurrency, are you aware of the risk involved in price and all the security measures you need to take to protect your investment? These are just some of the questions you need to ask yourself, otherwise, you enter a completely unknown territory where there is no right to error.

BTC is very far from a stable and secure investment, but every investment has its risks. There is a saying, "who does not risk, does not profit".
10677  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are the best Bitcoin hardware wallets? (Merits for help) on: February 02, 2020, 11:46:30 AM
I do not say that it is fully safe because there are past issues about ledger nano S where the sellers and retailers are able to get the fund of the users. That is why for those who want to buy ledger nano s make sure that you will buy at the legit sellers.

What you talk about applies to every hardware wallet which is being purchased from unauthorized sellers, or if it is a used device. The problem is not that such devices come with an already generated seed, but the fact that those who buy them do not reset the device and make new seed. This is a very simple attempt of fraud, that can easily be avoided.

I saw Ledger and Trezor compared and there were some small issues with how ledger is build. Trezor was found to be more secure because it's completely offline and there's no way hos your keys can be compromised. It's not that simple with ledger but it still offers a very high level of security.
You could also use a computer which can have its internet card disconnected. Any device that stores your kyeys offline is 100% secure.

Ledger and Trezor need to be connected to the internet to be able to send transactions, how would you use wallets like this if they were completely offline? But such devices are designed to never expose private keys, process of sign transaction is always inside hardware wallet.

Nothing is 100% safe, so neither devices that are offline - they are all subject to psychic attacks where an attacker can attempt to extract a private key or seed using some security vulnerability, which is for some time possible with Trezor models if users did not set very strong paraphrase.
10678  Other / Meta / Re: Report to moderators - A more efficient way on: February 02, 2020, 11:25:58 AM
Thanks to everyone for the answers, my idea could generally be declared as bad or unnecessary, although the intention was to make it easier for the moderators in handling reports. Things don't look as bad as they seem in terms of too many reports or too much work that moderators have (based on what was written in this topic).
10679  Economy / Services / Re: [? SLOTS OPEN] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ | Up to 0.0375 BTC/w on: February 01, 2020, 02:57:06 PM
safar1980, I do not doubt that there are members who definitely stands out from the average forum members, but only 4 of them satisfy one of the criteria of this campaign, rank of Senior Member and above. Unless the rules change, any lower rank cannot be accepted regardless of the quality of posts and merits they get.
10680  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: If I want to explain to a 10 years boy.what is blockchain?How should I explain? on: February 01, 2020, 02:44:30 PM
Let no one get me wrong, but a 10-year-old child should have other priorities in life than learning about blockchain. Childhood is a very important period of every human being, a time of carelessness, playing with friends, freedom from the burdens of life. Personally, I would not take that away from any child, I think everything has its time and place.

Therefore, my advice would be to protect your children from unnecessary information until the time is right. Knowing about blockchain will not help them enjoy their childhood, exactly the opposite.
