1  Economy / Services / Re: Recovery your MultiBit Wallets -v0.5.17 and old versions on: Today at 01:22:38 PM
What's holding you back from not taking 100% of the balance after recovering it?

Literally nothing if we're going to be honest. Especially when the one who offers this kind of service has no reputation on the forum and his account is worth nothing.

In addition, if someone has a wallet that is protected with a strong password, the chances of unlocking such a wallet are practically zero, unless the owner cannot remember some details of his password. However, it is possible that someone has found a way to "extract" such passwords in some other way than through the brute force method.
2  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Hong Kong Bitcoin ETF Responsible for Recent Bear on: Today at 01:10:55 PM

Nah, for experience investors, they might see this a normal movement. And we have seen this in the past that after the halving, their is no immediate effect and seems that the price will go down and then it will settle down in a straight line for quite sometime before the prices or investors started to pour their money to cause the price to go on a parabolic rise later before the end of the year.

I would not even use the word "normal" but rather "extremely profitable development of events" because the volatility that Bitcoin has is something that attracts investors (at least serious ones who know how to trade). Those investors were obviously very satisfied with their profits and estimated that it was time to exit, and there should be no doubt that they will use the current dip to invest part of their profits in cheap BTC.

I also hope that a new bull run will follow in a few months, but that should be taken with a grain of salt considering that we live in a world that is completely unpredictable. However, if the announcements of central banks about lowering interest rates come true, there should be no doubt that this will be an additional incentive for most investors.

Good riddance, hopefully he will get the maximum sentence and who knows, maybe him and SBF will be in the same jail,  Smiley

It doesn't seem logical to me that this scammer receives approximately the same sentence as the Bankman who caused financial damage in the billions of $. I don't mean that he doesn't deserve at least 10 years in prison, but I think that people like him should get an additional sentence that would include a ban on internet access for a certain period - or at least that he must have special software on his computer/smartphone with which would be monitored when it comes to his online activities.

Maybe it sounds strange or as a threat to human rights, but someone who has done something like this once is very likely to do it again if he has the chance. Deterrence in the form of restrictive measures is by far the best measure when it comes to such people.
4  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Hong Kong Bitcoin ETF Responsible for Recent Bear on: Today at 10:29:44 AM
Hong Kong's total ETFs market is worth about $50 billion, which is very small compared to the US ETFs market, which is estimated at slightly less than $9 trillion. The amount of money and the number of investors in HK therefore could not have any significant impact on the price of BTC, with the fact that mainland Chinese cannot invest in that ETF.

The story was sold for weeks as "the next big thing", and realistically few mentioned that Hong Kong and China are not the same thing when it comes to investing really large amounts of money in anything. Maybe that's why China allowed such an ETF to be approved, because interest in it will probably be quite low, and money control will still be at a high level.

Wish I had an answer to that, but I'm not a staff member and have no clue what goes on behind the scenes.  You'd think it'd be a simple fix like the one you described, but I suspect Theymos has his reasons for not acknowledging reporters publicly.  I couldn't even hazard a guess what those reasons are, though.

The only reason that I have already mentioned several times is the one that stems from the fact that some members were unhappy that such data were published publicly. Even if this is the reason, there is always a solution in the way of marking them with "x" or "anonymous" instead of their name - of course such a way of posting would require the admin to send a PM to everyone on that list so that it could be partially "censored" if it is really a problem for someone.

And what is the real lesson of this story? If you owe money to the IRS don't go to Spain because they have become specialized in US citizens on the run from the law Roll Eyes

~snip~
Hopefully he won't pull a McAfee on himself.

That possibility always exists, they say that Spanish prisons have a very bad effect on US citizens when they think about returning to their homeland.

Besides, why does anyone call Roger Bitcoin Jesus when he got a new nickname a long time ago?

I didn't suspect it at first, but checking the detectors mentioned above, it seems that the OP is one of those who completely rely on AI - of course, this is about the fact that most of his post is just c/p of what he got as a response.
9  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: In Your Country Who Gamble More? Young Ones or Elderly Ones on: May 01, 2024, 02:18:45 PM
From my observations I have seen a lot of middle age people gambling more than the younger ones because the middle age gamblers are the ones who find more money then the younger people. The reasons why the older people are not more than the middle age gambler is because most of the older gamblers are wealthy and they have a lot of money, so those older men that gambles are gambling to be entertained by the games.
~snip~

That's why I say that the tendency to gamble has its roots in culture, education and social norms in each country. In some countries there are very young people who have extremely rich parents who let them flaunt their wealth, and such young people are very frequent visitors to casinos. The only difference between young and old gamblers is that the former don't spend their money, and if you didn't earn something yourself, then it's even easier to spend it since you know you'll get more money very easily.

Aside from that, it'd sure be nice if Theymos did another stat dump.  People who report bad posts are the unsung heroes of this forum, who basically get almost no recognition whatsoever, and yet they serve an incredibly important function.  I won't hold my breath for any data from Theymos, but the top reporters deserve it IMO.

I agree that the publication of these statistics would be a kind of thank you to all those who work in the background to make the forum a better and more pleasant place for all who visit it as members and as guests. I don't know the real reason why the admin doesn't do it anymore, but if it's just a lack of time, can that task be transferred to the global moderator @hilariousandco who is active in the posting Monthly Report Statistics?
11  Economy / Reputation / Re: Is this an obvious misuse of merit? on: May 01, 2024, 01:46:42 PM
~snip~
I don't think that this is an enough reason for a tag. Being able to guess the price of bitcoin is a good job already, it must not be some walls of text to be quality. Secondly, the user being tagged is a full member and also not a merit source.

I agree that it makes no sense to give someone such feedback (even if it is neutral), because as far as I understand, @krishnaverma did not ask that someone give him merits, but he suggested that he would reward others with his sMerits. In addition, merits are not exclusively related to the quality of the post, but everyone gives them based on their own preferences - and I remember posts with only one word that received merits.

Note: I don't know if there are other ill behaviours of that user, I just created this thread to get clarified if there was an obvious merit abuse incase of subsequent scenarios.

I can say that I know the history of that user, considering that he has been trying to sell his signature/avatar for a long time and that I wrote a comment in his topic. From my perspective, it seems to me that he is trying to do something by trying to copy the moves of other members, but it seems that he only irritates others with these moves.
12  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: In Your Country Who Gamble More? Young Ones or Elderly Ones on: April 30, 2024, 11:15:51 AM
~snip~
Do you see such elderly people in your country? Or is it only in Africa? Is the younger ones play gamble more than the elders?

I think that everything depends on the country and has to do with the level of education and general culture towards such things. When we talk about typical physical casinos, I can say that I see mostly middle-aged people there, I would say 30+, and when it comes to sports betting, there are still younger people.

However, now that gambling and sports betting are happening more and more online, it is difficult (without data) to estimate who uses such services more. What seems to me is that a lot of people who didn't have such activities before because they didn't want to be seen in physical branches have now taken advantage of the opportunity to gamble in the online world.

At the end of the day, gambling evokes the same emotion in people of any age, and there's nothing wrong with it as long as it's fun and doesn't become much more than that.
13  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk features I've wondered about on: April 30, 2024, 11:01:12 AM
I remember I suggested modifying these icons in 2020, a long time without getting anything.
Does anyone know what BTT development roadmap is for this year? Or what updates can we expect, or will the situation remain as it is?

I think that such things are at the bottom of the list of priorities for the admin, so even though it would be logical to remove what no longer makes sense, on the other hand, there is no harm in them still being present. I think many are interested in the situation with the new forum that was announced a long time ago, but it is something that can happen in a few months, but also in a few years.
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Suddenly I'm curious, do I need to pay taxes on Bitcoin income? on: April 30, 2024, 10:38:19 AM
Do not ask chatgpt about your tax form, consult an accountant or tax professional as tax laws vary depending on your country, state and federal laws.
~snip~

That would be a logical step considering that the laws are not the same for everyone, and in some countries cryptocurrencies are not recognized at all, therefore you cannot pay tax on something that practically does not exist in your country. I think people like the OP have doubts about such things, but they don't want to consult with their tax offices for the reason that they could suggest that they own cryptocurrencies at all - which can certainly be risky in some countries.

I would describe the whole tax thing in the following way - if you don't trade through CEXs and it's mostly about smaller amounts that pass under the radar, why bother with all that paperwork. If you are a slightly bigger player, have KYC on CEXs, make bigger profits and buy houses, apartments, cars from that, then it would be logical to pay taxes - unless you want someone to take it all away from you one day.

I don't understand why they gave you information that actually can't help you
It would make more sense if they'd send an email to the account owner, asking him to contact OP. Sharing half an email address it's not helping at all.

The matter should be so simple, but instead of helping people they make incomprehensible moves - because they really could have sent an e-mail to that client and explained the situation to him, or perhaps used one of the internal forms of communication if it exists within the platform. I'm just wondering if it's just bad customer support, or are there some rules that prevent them from contacting their customers in these situations?
16  Other / Meta / Re: *Ended* Post history review offer on: April 29, 2024, 04:14:03 PM
To be honest, I think that it is a good decision, I don't like the idea of sending your posts to someone to get merits, it just looks very fake and unnatural. It's okay to not receive merit on every good post. I think that giving away merits should be a more natural thing, i.e. you visit threads, read posts and then merit the one that you think deserves to be merited.
I think that sending your posts to someone via PM and asking them to check if they are eligible for merits, to me, looks like an attempt to rank up just for the sake of signature campaign. That's why I try to not post in local board, locals are always a little biased, no offence but this is just the way I think.

I have already expressed a similar opinion in some of the previous discussions that took place in another topic, but also before when I also expressed my opinion that this way of "distributing" merits is not what it should be. Personally, it never occurred to me to ask that someone "review" my posts, but then again, everyone is free to share their sMerits as they wish, as long as it does not enter the sphere of abuse.

@The Sceptical Chymist, I think I already suggested it to you, but if you want to distribute most or all of your sMerits, simply raise the scale and give 5 or 10 merits for each post you consider valuable (even max 50 merits). That way, you can still be a useful merits source, and if you also reward people who know how to distribute your merits to other quality posts, you've done a great job.

There are two nations where Bitcoin is legal tender and El Salvador is one of them. Another country is Central African Republic.
~snip~

It seems that a lot of people think that Bitcoin is legal tender in the CAR, but that idea has long ceased to be a reality, which is not surprising considering the economic/financial state of that country.

In April 2022, the mineral-rich African country became the first on the continent and second in the world to adopt bitcoin as legal tender, following in the footsteps of El Salvador... But this spring, the Central African Republic decided to repeal its law enabling Bitcoin adoption altogether, arguably ending its experiment before it even began.
Although there are plenty of reasons why bitcoin adoption never got off the ground in the country, it’s not only tied to poor infrastructure, low internet penetration, and a population that is still learning what bitcoin or satoshis are – much less where they can be used for in the country.

Op, don't forget to get knowledge first before embarking on Bitcoin investments or any other investment else you will end up gambling with your funds...

This is certainly one of the best pieces of advice that can be given to any beginner. First, you need to familiarize yourself with what you are going to invest in, only then start with small amounts, and of course never invest more than you can afford to lose.

And sure they can be on holiday, but do you leave a billion dollar bussiness unattended?
also i sended them several mails since 27th of march even they went on holiday from april 11th what have they done this 14 days that they still were active with my mails or those other people with the same problems. This is already ongoing for 1 month atleast.

According to what we know from this forum, this whole operation is under the control of only two people, and therefore it is not even realistic to expect someone to answer your e-mails. The only option is to send a PM to @TheQuin (the link to his profile is already posted) and hope he sees the message and does something about it.

We get some help from a PR consultancy for the marketing, social media etc. and a friend of wetsuit's who helps out with the HTML coding and page design. Other than that it's just the 2 of us.

how to upload pics here?

You can do it because you don't have the appropriate rank yet, but you can post links and someone will quote the post and the pictures will be visible. In the meantime, read (if you haven't already) just enough to get an insight into how problems are solved.

19  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will the real bull run begin? on: April 29, 2024, 02:59:58 PM
Yes the price of Bitcoin at the END of 2022 was $15k but i started investing almost 12 months before that when it was $42k , big difference.

I just gave you an example, but you invested in altcoins that you claim have already achieved up to 3000% and you are still not satisfied? Of course, everyone always wants more, but sometimes you have to be realistic in life and not ask for too much. Anyway, I would give you the title of the most impatient member of the forum, considering that you have started dozens of topics like this one.

In the last 6 months, Bitcoin has increased around 150%. Some altcoins I hold have seen 1000% increase and some over 3000%.
This is why I buy altcoins , to make a lot more money then I would if I had only invested in Bitcoin.
I can then put profits I make from my altcoins this bull run into Bitcoin in the next bear market.

kuCoin only gave a partial email (credited account)
mikec*******n8330@gmail.com , knowing the full email address, I could try to contact him...

I don't understand why they gave you information that actually can't help you contact the owner of that account? Maybe it's about someone named Mike, which means you can narrow down the choice to a few million people in the US - but also "mikec" can be a nickname used in some countries in the Balkans, and also as a surname.
