If it is related to the problem of vaccines, the US government should be able to provide a different policy, this will make the Indian people
disadvantaged. Even though the COVID-19 problem can be handled properly if all countries can help each other. But if we look at the fact
that rich countries act unethically, then the problem of COVID-19 may be a prolonged problem, especially for poor countries. I and those of
you who are just ordinary people are really annoyed to see this situation, but there is nothing we can do.

It is not just the raw materials. The US government had stockpiled 10 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which they don't intend to use. They have refused to export this stockpile to other countries, saying that they need it for their own country as "reserves". I don't understand the logic, as the United States is mostly using vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna. They may never use the vaccine from AstraZeneca, as the efficacy is low.
10722  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: May 02, 2021, 02:29:54 AM
The inefficiency and the lack of foresight of the bureaucrats are exposed by this wave. They never took precautions even with repeated warnings from health experts about the possibility of further waves creating havoc if they are not prepared and the PM office was busy chest pumping about being the vaccine capital of the world while they are not even giving proper does of their own citizens and now everyone works together when people are dying in streets. Roll Eyes

No point in indulging blame game. Actually no one expected this wave at this point of time, and the neighboring countries are also in similar situation. Vaccination was the key, but it was delayed due to the embargo on the export of raw materials imposed by the United States. On top of that, red tape and bureaucracy is making matters worse in many parts of India. But everyone needs to appreciate the step from Sachin. And not to forget the contributions from Brett Lee and Pat Cummins, as they have donated at a time of extreme need.
10723  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: May 02, 2021, 02:24:31 AM
I thought the same, it was looking like a draw but the SL bowlers found something in the pitch and were able to bowl Bangladesh out for 251 runs. If there is going to be a result in this match, SL will need to score as many runs as they can within 2 session which will give them 4 sessions to try and bowl Bangladesh out. I think 350+ is enough so it will be interesting to see if SL will go for the win.

These scenarios are applicable only if Sri Lanka wants to win. From the first test, it looked as if they are playing just for formality and have no interest in getting a result other than draw. If they were really aiming for a win, then they would have asked Bangladesh to follow on. And it was not like the bowlers had 150-200 overs of work. Bangladesh in the first innings was bowled out in just 83 overs, and most of these overs were bowled by spinners (Ramesh Mendis and Praveen Jayawickrama bowling 63 overs in total).
10724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: RUMOUR: Facebook will announce they hold #Bitcoin on: May 01, 2021, 05:01:05 AM
Just another baseless rumor and these sort of stories really make Bitcoiners look like buffoons in front of others and make them a laughing stock. If mainstream investors are still hostile to Bitcoin and the other cryptocurrencies, then you don't need to look too far for the reason. Rumor mongering such as this one is the primary reason. From what I have found the proportion of fake news being spread in the cryptocurrency sector far exceeds those which contain at least some amount of truth.
10725  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2021-03-22 yahoo! - 'Bitcoin Winter' Could Last For Years After Price Hits $300k on: May 01, 2021, 04:50:20 AM
Bitcoin is growing 7% today. This means that if its growth continues, then within the next month it will be able to fully return all the losses that it suffered due to the negative news background and the correction will remain in the past. The bullish trend will again dominate the market. However, I do not think that this year we will see some kind of rapid growth that can reach such high rates. I think the growth will be gradual and periodic correction is inevitable.

Bitcoin prices are going up. But a worrying sign for me is that the altcoin prices are going up at a faster rate. And when useless shitcoins can have tens of billions of USD in market capitalization, that is a massive red flag, and the first indication that the bubble is going to burst sometime soon. XRP is back to the previous levels despite no final decision on their lawsuit with SEC, while Doge has gone up by almost 100x in the last 6 months.
10726  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla still an unprofitable automaker on: May 01, 2021, 04:35:03 AM
It is entirely possible that Tesla will become profitable not because of their car sales business but as holders of bitcoin, also we must understand that even if Tesla is not profitable now the value of something not only depends on its past and present it also depends on its future, and stockholders are looking at the future of Tesla and they think there is a lot of potential there and they do not want to miss it, in the worst case scenario they earn some money and drop the stock in the future, but in the best case scenario they are holding the next Microsoft or Apple and they become insanely rich because of it.

Just because Bitcoin added $100 million plus to the Tesla balance sheet for this quarter, I don't expect this to happen every time. Right now Bitcoin is going through a bullish phase and Tesla is also benefitting from it. But my question is what will happen once the bullish phase ends and a correction occurs. Instead of a net gain from Bitcoin sales, Tesla will be showing a net loss. And this may be unpalatable for many Tesla investors.
10727  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Pacquiao offered $10 million to fight Terence Crawford on: May 01, 2021, 04:23:56 AM
^^^ If you remember how long Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao were teasing about fighting each other even when they were supposed to fight when they were in their prime but they avoided to fight each other and tested the patience of the fans for years and finally they faced each other when they both crossed their prime career and in during the event Manny Pacquiao was injured going into the fight and i think as a fan we need better and if they are willing to fight again the fans will pay to watch the fight as it is more interesting than any other fight.

I find the injury excuse really strange. Pacquiao spoke about the injury issue only after losing the match. Why he didn't asked for a postponement if he was injured? Also, I watched the match, and it didn't looked as if he was injured. Floyd Mayweather won the fight fair and square, and Pacquiao should stop giving stupid excuses. And this may be one of the reasons why Floyd rejected Pacquiao's request for a rematch. But Manny was rewarded handsomely for that fight, earning more than $100 million.
10728  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: May 01, 2021, 04:09:46 AM
It is difficult to reach 600 runs because Pakistan have already lost 6 wickets at 374. Their lead is not about 200 runs and i think a lead of 200 will be enough to bowl out the Zimbabwe batsmen. Though the match is one sided one, there is still an interest for us for being the home side.

The intention should be to win the match without caring much about the personal milestones. Pakistan is already leading by around 200 runs and I guess another 100 runs should be enough for them to secure an innings victory (i.e a total of 480-500). There is no point in wasting another day to get the total past 600. Anyway, they have already lost 6 wickets so far, and it looks as if getting to a lead of even 300 is going to be difficult.
10729  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla Bought 1.5 B in Bitcoins on: May 01, 2021, 03:57:56 AM
I am not that familiar with corporate tax law in California, but are you sure there is a different tax rate for different hodling periods?
For sure this applies to personal investors in Europe (Germany, for example), but it would be the first time I hear something similar also for corporations.

I enquired about it, and looks like you are right. I was wrong. For capital gains of corporations, the gains are simply added to the "other income" category and taxed as per the prevailing corporate tax rate (rather than using long term/short term capital gains tax in the case of individuals). So the corporations usually pay a higher/lower tax when compared to the individuals on their capital gains (lower tax, in case their overall profit is negative).
10730  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla's Q1 SEC Reveale holding $2.48 Billion Bitcoin on: May 01, 2021, 03:47:27 AM
Elon Musk is a businessman so by now, he knows how to play with the market.
Even if we say, he is new to crypto market, but he knew bitcoin a long time ago.
Remember, he said before a friend sent him 0.25 bitcoin.
So watching the market and all, he already knows how to take advantage on this industry.
But with his activity from social media towards crypto, a lot of his followers got curious one way or another.
And some of them, may turn into crypto users, which is actually good for the crypto community.

I don't have anything to say against the role being played by Elon, although I have to admit that his tweets on Dogecoin gave them underserved publicity and caused a pump with some of the shitcoins. His original intention was to use Bitcoin along with US Dollar as one of the reserve currencies for Tesla. And on this aspect, he has been successful. The recent transaction should also keep some of the critics quite, especially those who criticized the Tesla Bitcoin purchase.
10731  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid virus 2021 on: May 01, 2021, 03:37:19 AM
I agree with the unfair distribution of vaccines to all countries, this is one of the reasons why until now the spread of COVID-19 has been so difficult
to stop. Even rich countries do get more vaccines, poor countries really can't do much, considering that vaccines are now a promising business for
the pharmaceutical industry. Because the demand is very high, then the pharmaceutical companies that make vaccines definitely prefer to distribute
them to rich countries, who do have the money to buy vaccines at a high price.

It is not just the distribution of vaccines. Here in India, the topmost manufacturer of the vaccines faced enormous difficulty in production because the Joe Biden administration placed an embargo on the export of raw materials that are needed to produce the AstraZeneca vaccine. The rich countries acted very unethically. On one hand they refused to supply the vaccines to poorer nations, and on the other hand they sabotaged the vaccine production in these countries.
10732  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: May 01, 2021, 03:27:13 AM
RCB back to their form? I mean their poor form! Grin

LOL.. I just hope that this defeat doesn't start a new trend for them. The captaincy was very poor. Harshal Patel had proved very expensive during the end overs in the previous matches and still Kohli asked him to bowl two out of the last three overs. And he conceded an eye-watering 40 runs from those two overs. And this was despite Kyle Jamieson having one over left. Even Mohammed Siraj bowled only 3 overs, and had one over left. I don't know what was going on in Kohli's mind at this point. Else Punjab Kings would have got restricted to somewhere around 150.
10733  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: May 01, 2021, 03:17:19 AM
The pitch doesn't offer any support to the bowlers and even if they extend the duration to 10 days instead of 5 days, it will still end up as a draw. These matches are a reason why test format is dying. You waste 5 days consecutively to watch them playing and the match still end with no result.
If you looks at the matches in the past 6 to 8 years we have results in Test matches most of the time and the matches that ended up in a draw was really competitive where the team was fighting to defend from the brink of a defeat, so things have changed and rarely we see matches like this that are played in dead pitches that do not help the bowlers and hopefully the ICC gives out warning to make pitches better the next time around.

I am not saying that most of the test matches are like this one. But this series has been disappointing so far. Let's not forget the fact that these two teams rank among the bottom half of the World Test Championship. So in order to improve their ranking, they needed a few wins. I am especially disappointed with Sri Lanka, who are the hosts. If they are so defensive against a team such as Bangladesh, then how they can compete against the big three teams?
10734  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla's Q1 SEC Reveale holding $2.48 Billion Bitcoin on: April 30, 2021, 03:49:09 AM
OK.. so here is the summary - Tesla purchased around $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin in January 2021, which increased in value to around $2.75 billion. They sold $290 million worth of coins a few weeks back and now they are left with $2.48 billion in BTC. So in short, Tesla has a realized profit of somewhere around $125 million (before taxes) and an unrealized profit of more than $1 billion from their investment in cryptocurrency. They should be happy about the numbers, I guess.
10735  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tesla now accepts Bitcoin on: April 30, 2021, 03:37:58 AM
If tesla does not convert BTC to fiat, That means tesla buying more bitcoin. Tesla still investing in bitcoin. Why not, The price of BTC still increases,s and demand also increasing. Tesla also created a new demand for BTC by accepting bitcoin. Buy Bitcoin At Shiftal.

They don't need to purchase any BTC from the market. They are already accepting Bitcoin as a payment for their EVs, so there is a net inflow of coins. But these are initial days and we don't know what percentage of the sales are using BTC. In their Q1 statement, they have already made it clear that the value of BTC they are holding is around $2.48 billion. Let's wait until the next statement to see how much their holdings increase during the 3-month period.
10736  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2021-03-22 yahoo! - 'Bitcoin Winter' Could Last For Years After Price Hits $300k on: April 30, 2021, 03:26:19 AM
I think these articles in the media have only one purpose. Their goal is to ensure that faith in bitcoin does not grow stronger, but rather diminishes. The United States is a country where the Federal Reserve, disguised as a central bank (but in fact a private bank) issues the US dollar. And the people who control this emission are not at all interested in the development of bitcoin and the cryptocurrency market in general. They need, ideally, to discredit the very sphere of cryptocurrency in order for people to continue to trust ordinary money.

Well.. if that was the intention, then I have to say that they terribly failed in it. On one hand, they are saying that Bitcoin can go up to $300,000, when the current exchange rates are fluctuating at $50,000-$55,000 levels. So according to them, very soon there will be a 5x-6x increase in the exchange rates. The correction is going to occur after that. Intelligent investors will concentrate on the initial part of their statement, because that is going to occur first.
10737  Economy / Economics / Re: Biden's IRS Plans Could Boost Crypto Adoption on: April 30, 2021, 03:16:09 AM
Overall, this is another component of the $6 trillion spending plan by Biden. Nowhere in the world, socialist policies have been implemented on this scale. In short, he will be taking $6 trillion from successful people and profitable corporations, and then distributing it to the unproductive population in the form of childcare benefits and other handouts. Being a non-American, I am happy about this. The American economy needs to be destroyed and China needs to emerge as the no.1 economic power. These stupid plans will just accelerate it. The suburban voters who dumped the GOP to vote for Biden/Kamala will be really excited right now.  Grin
10738  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Eth Berlin Upgrade and Gambling on: April 30, 2021, 03:06:09 AM
A couple of years back, the average fee for an Ethereum transaction was around $0.05. Even if the Berlin hard fork manages to reduce the transaction fee, I am not expecting a very big reduction. At the most, it may come down to $5. Even at this point, making deposits in fiat is far more profitable than doing the same using Ethereum, especially for smaller amounts. So IMO, the Ethereum Berlin update will have only a minimal impact on the gambling sector.
10739  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dubai's Government and Gambling on: April 30, 2021, 02:56:42 AM
Almost 100 replies so far and almost every one claims that Dubai doesn't permit gambling because they are under Islamic law. If that was the case, then why gambling is not allowed in most of the non-Muslim countries? Also, some of the nations that are 100% Islamic permit gambling, and examples are Morocco and Azerbaijan. The UAE is considered as one of the more liberal Islamic nations and should not be compared on par with conservative nations such as Afghanistan and Somalia.
10740  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla still an unprofitable automaker on: April 30, 2021, 02:46:08 AM
everyone wants Tesla, but not everyone can buy Tesla. it's just a display for billionaires to show off their collection. If I were to choose between Tesla and Bitcoin, I would definitely choose Bitcoin. apart from the Tesla company business to adopt Bitcoin and so on, what makes Tesla that special in the eyes of bitcoiners?
we can see that Tesla is for the upper class. Of course, for myself, I prefer bitcoin over Tesla, and I don't think the production is too booming to be accepted by the general public. and currently Tesla is looking for money from bitcoin, after yesterday recording a profit on its investment

Tesla cars are very expensive, but that alone won't make them upper class. The quality and specs are not as good as the luxury brands, such as BMW or Mercedes Benz. Tesla vehicles have become some sort of a status symbol among the young, especially who want to show that they are environmentally sensitive. But you will never get the feeling of driving a Lamborghini or Audi with Tesla. And perhaps that is the reason why the EVs still have a very small market share among the overall automobile market.
