10741  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: March 08, 2021, 12:09:10 PM
I think the reason why the hashrate is so high up is not the amount of GPUs or ASICs being produced being added to the network but its the old GPUs which were never mining start to mine for the first time.

People either are seeing crazy profits and decide to mine themselves with Nicehash or they see the crazy amounts of money people are selling their GPUs for on Craigslist and eBay so they decide to sell their GPU at a great price and either wait a few months to buy some newer and better GPU or just stop gaming all together. Or game with some old GPU they had laying around. Then that GPU which was never mined before, finally starts mining and adds to the hashrate.

There is truth to this.  Eth is back to 1720 today.  I still think it can top 3k in the next 3-6 months.

10744  Economy / Economics / Re: How do you define rich? on: March 08, 2021, 01:15:28 AM
How would you define what is to be "rich"? Is it about having enough for living or is there something else that you would be looking to accomplish to be rich?
Is it 1 million USD? Is it 1000 bitcoin? what are your thoughts?

1) Rich in money ? 100,000,000 million works for me.
2) Rich in BTC ? 4000 BTC works for me.

3)Rich in health ? I am 64 I need to be 32 again with zero heath issues and a guarantee to live at least back to 64 > Not sure this is possible for me or anyone else.Grin

4)Rich in love life? My wife needs to be 30 again with zero health issues and a guarantee to live at least back to 62 > Not sure this is possible for me or my wife. Grin

5)Rich in friends?  I am as I have my wife.

So I am 1 for 5.

1 and 2 are not likely

3 and 4 are not possible as far as I know.

But having number 5)  One really good close friend is very nice.

10745  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer 3.2A fan upgrade or fan controller on: March 08, 2021, 12:59:36 AM
Hello,

Will a 3.2A fan fry the Antminer (in this case, S9) control board?
I was specifically looking at this: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Sanyo-Denki/9LG1212P1G001?qs=ihlaDWZG8x483pqEdXadZw==

Also, if there is a dedicated fan controller for 40W+ fans (40W each rail), I wouldn't mind getting one of those but I can't find anything. All I can find are PC fan controllers and those units max out at 48W, as in the whole units maxes out at 48W, not each individual fan.

I have that fan and it does not work well as I would like it to with s9 controllers.

get a delta they are better in general. if you can not find one

here is an okay fan it works for s9 controllers.  seller is usa based.

https://www.parallelminer.com/product/parallel-tvn6100-fan-6100-rpm-pwm-variable-speed-260cfm-2-8a-12v-120mm-x-38mm/

it is 2.8 and delta are 2.7 amps I have six of these fans all work well with s9 and or l3+ miners.

At op at best it is a novelty item.
If this was my website I would insist you mention that it may or may not be a worthless item and that most likely it is worthless.

But it is not my website and my opinion is pretty much worthless as to the true worth of your deed.

10748  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 07, 2021, 11:11:08 PM
Meanwhile a nice lil pump takes us back into $50k+ territory...  Cool

These sideways movements are really good for BTC .

I would take 60 more days from 48k to 58k  then the huge jump close to or maybe breaking 100k level.
10749  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 07, 2021, 08:16:43 PM

Well it's quite simple, with every new bull run they need a new "scam-straction" to distract the pleebs away from Bitcoin.

With this new NFT garbage, it's like the mother of all frauds: selling outrageously over-priced digital tulips on the biggest scam blockchain of them all, ETH.

They will be *really* hard pressed to top that one in 2024.

Eth has to be the king of shit coins.

What happens if mr V wakes up dead tomorrow Eth tanks 75% and they go to war over who controls it.  All depends on him mr v.  just what a person needs.

BTC does not need mr S. to thrive does it?

https://etherscan.io/chart/hashrate

March 6   437,000 gh or 4.37 million nvidia 3080's
March 1   421,000 gh or 4.21 million nvidia 3080's

Jan.     1  293,000 gh or 2.93 million Nvidia 3080's

Steady upwards move but eth rallied back in price a bit to 1,651 usd

It was around 730 on jan 1 2021

so. 1651/730 = 2.26 to 1

and

437/293 =  1.49 to 1

fees are still pretty high 1.61%

and it is $0.0852 per mh
so a 3080 makes $8.52 a day with 50 cent to 1.52 for power
or 7-8 a day after power.

Does it mean go buy 50x 2000 dollar 3080 units no it does not .

But I am content to get one or two at a time for 1200 or less. They do become available at that price here and there/.

BTW Phil I remember you posted links to sound proofing blankets somewhere but I have searched and searched trying to find them.  Can you share a link.

Thinking I am going to have to do something about the rigs in the bedrooms.  I have them near windows, with window fan set to exhaust all their hot air out.  Temps have been fine but its the noise.  Thinking about getting one of those grow tents and throwing a sound proofing blanket over it.

Yeah do these two

this is fire proof 78 by 78

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N1F737R/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

these muffle sound

https://www.amazon.com/Sure-Max-Moving-Packing-Blankets-Furniture/dp/B073V5CRQ7/ref=sxin_9?

put the fire proof near the gear then the moving blanket

here is 1 more item

https://www.homedepot.com/p/UltraTouch-48-in-x-24-ft-Radiant-Barrier-with-Recycled-Cotton-30000-11424/100661257

setup would be

[gear] [fire blanket ][radiant barrier][moving blanket] is best
[gear] [fire blanket][moving blanket] is second best
{Gear}{radiant barrier}{moving blanket}  is third best

if you skip fireblanket make sure to point the silver part of the radiant barrier at the gear. as it is heat resistant.

the only bad setup is moving blanket alone as they may not be fire resistant.
10752  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: March 07, 2021, 03:28:00 PM
My rigs are completely full.  Now I have to decide to a try and get more cards and build another one at this point.

Also - I am using some old cards already paid for - 1060's at 25mh a pop that I could replace in the rigs at this point.

But I don't understand this July thing - although ROI would probably be a few months for whatever cards I can find.

Is it a good idea  at this point to build another rig?

Same thing I keep asking myself.  Figure if I am able to get some at MSRP in bulk, may sell half of them to pay for the ones I use, at least that way I am basically break even from the start.  Not so risky.  Not going to wimp out like I did back in 2015/2016 and stop mining.  I am also buying ETH/BTC every chance I get also.

Tough call for build out vs cash out.

I have tons of cheap power and could add 50-75 cards.
I have 60+ cards
I have L3+
I have sha 256 miners.

If I had no partners I would sell all the gear. Go on a holiday from mining. But with partners it is more complex.
When I look at this mining setup and look at the market I would say mining for 5 years makes more sense.

Also I am 64 years old while my mind is young and my body is still okay working every day has less appeal then it did 20 years ago.
With the covid-19 scare with myself and especially my wife. I know making money is not everything.

I would like spending some money and doing nothing but sight seeing for a while. I am going on a 7 hour roundtrip drive to look at a site to set up a farm. I do not want to support this farm once it is setup as 7 hour round trip drive means a sleep over if I am to do decent work.
10753  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New RTX 3060 Work Around? on: March 07, 2021, 02:40:29 PM
Nvidia : Selling gpus direct to big miners in batches
Also Nvidia : Retail person NO YOU CANT MINE GAMING ONLY PLS

roll eyes

My single Nvidia 3060 mining at nicehash

https://www.nicehash.com/my/miner/1JdC6Xg3ajT3rge3FgPNSYYFpmf53Vbtje

So yeah it does not make a fortune but it will pay for itself in well under a year if I get it at retail price.

So with 3060 I look to get it at retail price.

I got one from the Newegg Shuffle for msrp. $428 after tax and shipping it burns 5 kwatts on a 1 card rig. my winter power cost is 10 cents my summer cost is 18 cents.  so 50-90 cents make it 70 cents on average it earns 2.50-3.00 a day make it 2.70 a day - .70 is 2 bucks a day.  or 428/2 = 214 days for a free card.
I have a 3 year warranty.  I have zero issue buying these and mining octopus. I would add 3 more today if I got them at $428 each. So effectively to a guy like me 50+ plus cards running this is not a problem.

But to a guy with a 2 card rig that wants to game in the day and mine at night this is a fuckover.

I think bitcoin will drop to another Support in the next 24 hours, The volume is lower than the last weeks.

what do you think guys ?

I think you waited too long to open the thread. Feb 21 or Feb 20  would have been the two days to write this post/thread.

You should lock it..

as the time now is to buy it cheap before it hits 70k

I have not had any luck with their shuffle but I did score a 5700xt from them this week just using the Auto-Notify feature.  Also got a 3070 from B&H but it was an email offer, they didn't list on their site.  Had to call in and give a code to order.

What 5700xt was it?  I got a Power Cooler Red Devil for an outrageous price from Newegg.  Didn't last long even at $679.  I saw a MSI for the same price but missed it.

On B&H how did you sign up for the email offer?  I watch them and have been wondering why I haven't seen any drops all week from them.

Thats the same 5700 I got also, the Red Devil.

On B&H, they just pulled my info from where I had it on Auto Notify at random from what I understood.  Was able to order a MSI 3070 Gaming X Trio by calling in.

Just now getting back into mining after a 4 year or so break and trying to get enough cards to put at least 1 rig together.  I currently have 4 3060ti systems mining but still have stuff minus the GPU's to build 2 open air rigs from where I used to mine.  I even signed up for wholesale accounts with several the largest computer parts wholesalers in the country to increase the chances of getting in bulk but no luck yet.

Yeah every source I know is dry. The chip shortage is real.

Eth payouts are still very good and rallied a bit from 7.7 cents an mh to 8.4 cents an mh

A 3080 doing 100 mh is making $8.40 a day - 7kwatts of power lets say $1.40 at 20 cents a kwatt for a garage miner. Thus it is $7 a day for  a 3080 makes a 3080 worth 200 x 7 = 1400

they are going for more. But I simply think they are not going to be available.

Some prices for the 3080 Evga's I have

2100
https://www.ebay.com/itm/EVGA-GeForce-RTX-3080-XC3-ULTRA-10GB-GDDR6X-Graphics-Card-Ships-Same-Next-Day/143970690287?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/EVGA-GeForce-RTX-3080-XC3-ULTRA-10GB-GDDR6X-Graphics-Card/124616514319?

It is tempting to list my 3 cards for 1600 each here on Bitcointalk. As no one is selling them under 2100 on ebay.

I have a 4th one on the way. The three above have been mining since  November. They have earn about 20 average a day for about 120 days = 2400 on a free power setup.

I paid about 2400 for them.  So they are with roi or +-100 from roi.  I wonder if anyone would pay me 1600 each They are registered in my name at evga and have 2 years and 8 months on the warranty.

I still feel strong rally on the way.  Maybe 3000 a coin for eth by July leading up to the EIP-1559
Yeah I don't know how long I will live to , but I know when I look back on 2021 I am going to like to remember the bull run.
I hit the 2013 run weakly
I hit the 2017 run better
I hit the 2021 run even better.

The title of this thread was so spot on.

now trying

c=1050
m=1950
mv=800
hash = 60mh.

these cards are not a big deal

Not at all which is why I'm surprised that these are all sold out everywhere also.  I got one a few weeks after launch and never really tried looking for another one.  I can see why Nvidia has a shortage but I'm not sure why AMD also has a shortage.

I am guessing the chip shortage is the worst ever. It could mean not much in the way of gear until Nov-Feb .

meanwhile price went up 🆙 on eth closer to 1650.

Yeah this could killed them bigly amd may say buy us we can mine eth

Also I get over 4 a day on my 3060 doing octopus.  So I simply say 100 x 4 = 400 = just about roi buy it anyway.
