10761  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Safest Wallet for BTC without Fee on: January 21, 2020, 11:54:56 AM
and most importantly the security of wallet that it should be completely in my control and 100% safe to store/send/receive BTC

By reading your post history I see you're getting ready for mining and that you have $100k to invest, but at the same time you ask for some free to use wallet? Invest $50 in a hardware wallet and sleep peacefully, and this is the best advice you can get for free. However, if you want to take the risk you can play with Electrum and similar wallets, but keep in mind that free solutions are often the most expensive at the end. One mistake and your coins are in hacker wallet.

I can invest around 100k+ on equipments or hardware which are related to mining + free electricity I have
10762  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-01-19] Peter Schiff Says Owning Bitcoin (BTC) Was 'Bad Idea' After Losing on: January 21, 2020, 11:38:25 AM
It's honestly beyond stupid. It just shows how incompetent he is, treating his investments with such negligence.

How many times should it be written that this is not an investment but a gift. Accordingly, we can apply the saying "Easy come, easy go". Much more stupid than himself are the ones who donated him BTC, and apparently they did not bother to explain to him that BTC was not the same as gold.

It's amazing the fascination of people who are involved with crypto with people like Schiff, as if everyone's future depends on him. He should be allowed to play with gold, he knows it and is successful in it.
10763  Other / Meta / Re: Policy on users like this guy? on: January 21, 2020, 11:18:03 AM
Great investigative work. It serves to remove any doubt as to this user's motivations - he is a paid shill.

It just confirms everything that has already been written about him, can anyone have any doubts about what this is when it comes to the user in question? Just look at the link he is posting in every thread, it is pay campaign with its initials at the end (Jeff Caceres).

Are the admins going to do anything about it? I mean.. I don't think we want monetized links to become the next BitcoinTalk trend after all the counter-measures the staff has done so far with the merit system and all, do we?

So far, they have taken nothing in terms of some punishment, except for the temporary ban which has nothing to do with the activity we are discussing. As I wrote before, it's not just him, it's at least 4-5 more people doing the same thing, but hiding in some less-visited parts of the forum. If they perma-ban one user, they need to ban them all.

@Lucius Exactly!, @hilariousandco agrees with us... I dunno if the guy has been warned yet or not cuz He hasn't changed his posting behaviour... Not even once he has bothered to engage in his threads, the guy is just gaming the system as you said...

I don't think he's warned, and even if this is the case I think he can just change his bad habits, he will go to the end no matter what's going to happen to that end.

I am not the person who thinks I should interfere with the merit assignment policy, but I think part of the responsibility for this kind of behavior lies in the encouragement that comes through the merits.

10764  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies, turn on the brain - it's not all true if it's in the forum! on: January 21, 2020, 10:42:00 AM
I joined this forum in one of the worst times (start of 2018) where spam was almost uncontrollable and people were posting even without knowing the intention behind what they were posting about.

From your perspective, the beginning of 2018 may have looked bad, but I have been a member of this forum since mid-2015, and before that I have been a guest for at least a year. Back then, there were signature campaigns that did not have managers but bots that counted posts (old yobit/bitmixer). I can tell you from personal experience that it was a much worse spam time than in 2018. At that time the accounts were still selling without any consequences, and it was a golden age for fraudsters who scam so many users with green trust Legendary/Hero accounts.

Much has changed for the better, but this forum is still the ideal platform for various types of fraud, of which we can only protect ourselves if we use common sense.
10765  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies, turn on the brain - it's not all true if it's in the forum! on: January 20, 2020, 02:56:43 PM
gentlemand, some think like you, but most beginners are incapable of distinguishing between a Legendary/Hero account that has some value given to it by its owner, and one that is achieved only by the time factor and airdropped merits. In this respect, we can conclude that one Legendary account with 1000 airdropped merits (0 earned) is worth no more than one newbie account, considering that 2 years have passed since the introduction of the merit system.

Yet although I believe that such threads make sense in order to raise awareness, it seems that newbies are not too interested in topics like this. Maybe the topic is too complicated, or local rule is crucial for a low interest Roll Eyes
10766  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency Shines as US Mortgage Debt Exceeds 2008 Levels on: January 20, 2020, 02:29:30 PM
OP, the title of this thread makes it seem like those two things are somehow related, but the comparison doesn't even make sense to me.  Crypto might be shining a little right now, but the market as a whole is far from its ATH, and the state of it has nothing to do with the housing market.

Of course, most of what comes from a source that OP promotes doesn't make sense, it's about clickbait titles and OP making money on all that. Also, don't expect any response from the OP - he's too busy to create as many threads as possible - the attempt to connect US Mortgage Debt with cryptocurrency just shows that these articles are written by people who have no idea about economics, let alone cryptocurrency.

10767  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: How is KYC enforced in Bitcoin ATMs worldwide? on: January 20, 2020, 02:10:09 PM
There are several types of verifications when it comes to crypto ATMs, and again they depend on the individual country and its legislation. What you describe is withdrawing money into your bank account, but most crypto ATMs are only one-way devices, which means you can only buy crypto with cash.

Some of them will only ask you your mobile phone number on which you will get confirmation code, others will ask you to show your ID on the ATM camera, or to show your face in front of the camera. Some ATM are using special software (check https://shuftipro.com/).

I think the USA has fairly strict laws in this regard (FinCEN) which requires that all clients in such transactions are identified, all of course for the purpose of preventing money laundering and terrorist financing.

Maybe Finland is one of the first EU countries that is starting to implement new EU directives (AMLD 5) which came into force on January 10 this year.
10768  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Windows 7 stopped product supports. Please upgrade your Windows and wallets ASAP on: January 20, 2020, 01:39:25 PM
I will miss the interface of windows 7 a lot.

There is no reason to miss something, there are always options to customize your new OS to get at least a visual look of your old OS. I have personally met people who find it difficult to get used to the new interface, but it actually takes very little time to get used to the new interface. If you really miss the old OS, here are some tricks which can help you.

10769  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hacker leaks passwords for more than 500,000 servers, routers, and IoT devices on: January 20, 2020, 11:59:53 AM
This hack is not about paypal password, crypto wallet, etc. It is about Telnet username and passwords if the hacker gain access with your telnet account he/she can access a device via remote access protocol over the internet, he can access your computer and copy data, but I guess it is only applicable to those devices that have static IP address an address that does not change, but if you have dynamic IP your IP will change every time you restart your router so the hacker cannot gain access.

Of course, this is not a type of hack that can be prevented with the use of 2FA or similar countermeasures when it comes to personal online security. As you wrote the solutions are simple, check if the Telnet option is enabled at all, and if it is simply turn it off. Of course, if we use Telnet it is obligatory to change the access data and to protect ourselves from future data exposures.

Dynamic IP is not solution of this problem since we also have a bad ISP factor involved - so even if IP is changing on daily basis a hacker who knows what he is doing still has a chance to exploit this kind of data.

An IoT security expert (who wanted to remain anonymous) told ZDNet that even if some entries on the list are not valid anymore because devices might have changed their IP address or passwords, the lists remain incredibly useful for a skilled attacker.Misconfigured devices are not evenly spread out across the internet, but they're usually clustered on the network of one single ISP due to the ISP's staff misconfiguring the devices when deploying them to their respective customerbases. An attacker could use the IP addresses included in the lists, determine the service provider, and then re-scan the ISP's network to update the list with the latest IP addresses.
10770  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BEST WAY TO BUY AND SELL BITCOIN IN GERMANY on: January 20, 2020, 11:33:22 AM
I don't know if Binance supports Euro deposit and withdrawal through debit card. Please, I don't want localbitcoin.

Your friend can try Binance Jersey which is supporting EUR deposits/withdraw with 0% fee until 30/06/2020. As a second option, I would single out Bitstamp in my opinion, just because it is an EU company that has been in business for many years and has a solid reputation. What may favor Binance is the allegedly very fast KYC procedure, unlike some other exchanges.
10771  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-01-19] Peter Schiff Says Owning Bitcoin (BTC) Was 'Bad Idea' After Losing on: January 20, 2020, 10:58:41 AM
So he eventually decided to buy Bitcoin after all that complaining that Bitcoin is so much worse than gold. That's interesting Smiley

I am sure that Bitcoin holders and supporters are laughing at Peter Schiff and his predicament right now. So eventually he bought some Bitcoin maybe just to show us that owning one can be more difficult than owning gold, and maybe in that aspect he can be right.

Why comment on an article you have not read?

Peter Schiff did not buy BTC, but received it as a gift (linked in the article). The fact that he lost something now (password or something else) is just proof that he has no idea what BTC really is and what it means to be your own bank.

I don't even understand the need to convince people like Schiff or Buffett/Munger that something is good or bad, they are a species in extinction that works by the old rules and so will be until the very end.
10772  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: U. S. Congress proposes to free small cryptocurrency transactions from taxes on: January 20, 2020, 10:38:47 AM
This bill if approved can be a good law that can be a big boost to the whole cryptocurrency industry.

Big boost because crypto users will not have to pay tax on transactions that do not exceed $200 in total per year? You have to be kidding me, this is not a third world country where $200 means something, and this can only help total beginners who collect coins from faucets or send each other a tips in Doge. I do not see how European laws made a big boost because they allowed anonymous cards (250 EUR) per user, or selling/buying crypto up to a certain amount without any ID even on a daily basis. Your statement that it will help "whole cryptocurrency industry" is complete nonsense.
10773  Other / Meta / Re: Policy on users like this guy? on: January 19, 2020, 02:59:14 PM
Looks like his ban period has expired, The dude is back and is on his spamming spree... Will he be getting warned for this or banned? Cuz all he does is, post in bounty threads and create these threads...

Try to report his posts and see what will happen. I can tell you that all my reports for this user stay unhandled (for reports in Bitcoin Discussion), so his post is not considered spam, or violation of forum rules by advertising in the post area.

In addition to being irritating, the articles he posts are mostly on the trail of some false sensationalism (read clickbait), with the addition of his personal comment, which is if we're going to be honest, just a way to avoid ban or threads deletion.

10774  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you record and preserve Bitcoin history? on: January 19, 2020, 02:33:32 PM
I have a pretty large collection of screenshots that I take from 2014 when I start to collect coins from faucets. It's not about something that is particularly relevant and important, but for me personally it has sentimental value. I think it's important to preserve some of your personal history, even though everything is available online today.

10775  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: BCH and BSV on: January 19, 2020, 01:44:21 PM
You might want to send your Bitcoins to another address before exporting them.

This should not be an option at all, but something that must be done before claim of any forked coin. Even though you posted the links that should lead to legitimate wallets, extra caution is certainly something that contributes to security. In this case, moving coins to new wallet and verify signature of each wallet + claim the most valuable coin first as a little insurance in case we run into a fake wallet later.

Of course, it all goes down if we put a private key/seed in a fake wallet, so many are lost their coins in an attempt to get new ones.

It does to Darkstar_ tho, it makes this task a lot easier for him (if you know what I mean)  Grin

I know, I couldn't resist asking them (though there probably won't be any answers). Maybe I'm a little naughty because of my 666 in activity Wink
10777  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X vs. Nano S on: January 19, 2020, 12:02:21 PM
With latest firmware update it looks like that capacity for Ledger Nano S is also larger now...

The latest firmware for Nano S has definitely fixed things regarding the number of coin applications that can be installed at the same time, but Nano X has (according to Ledger) "ten times more available storage" then Nano S. This gives it a great advantage not only in terms of number of applications but also in its further development because it is not limited with storage as S model.

Nano X is the best choice for those who not trust mobile wallets too much or they are scared of some malware, so you can always have coins in a safe environment and make payments on the go without using OTG cable. Although some consider Bluetooth as a potential attack vector, I don't think Ledger makes something that is very easy to hack.

Now when I have both, I have a much greater sense of security on my smartphone than before with Electrum.
10778  Economy / Economics / Re: Winklevoss-Led Gemini Exchange Now Has Its Own Insurance Company on: January 19, 2020, 11:32:41 AM
~snip~

Of course, their move certainly makes sense when it comes to institutional investors, they seek security above all, especially in something that is still pretty insecure or, better to say, very vulnerable in terms of various manipulations or exit scams/unfortunate circumstances (QuadrigaCX recently or Mt.Gox in past).

I know a few years ago that the news came out about a Japanese insurance company, but I do not know if this project succeeded in its intention. However, I think regular insurance companies are seriously analyzing the crypto market and want to get involved. Allianz spokesman says "the company was exploring product and coverage options in the space because cryptocurrencies were “becoming more relevant, important, and prevalent on the real economy.”

Therefore, it is possible that such services will be extended in the future the retail users, but maybe only when crypto becomes much more valuable than today in terms of total market capitalization (which by the way we know that doesn't make much sense). But it will be hard to ignore something worth $1 trillion (BTC at $50k), everyone will want their share of the cake.

10780  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bought this stuff with Bitcoin, great way for people to become aware of Bitcoin on: January 18, 2020, 03:31:20 PM
Today, you won't have any impact because almost everyone knows Bitcoin already. Their interest may have been already answered, and if they want to use it, they would be utilizing it or maybe supporting it.

I would disagree with your statement because to hear about BTC and to know something specific about it is a big difference. If there is any truth in research that shows that less than 1% of the world's population owns/trades with crypto, we are still far from saying that most are familiar what is actually BTC.

I personally bought a lot of things with BTC (TVs, smartphones, various gadgets), but I don't think it helped others to become aware of BTC. The only thing that might interest them in this particular case is the fact that they can buy BTC at a lower price, and then profit by buying something when the BTC price goes up. I can say to someone that I buy my new OLED tv, a state-of-the-art smartphone or something like that for $50 worth of BTC which I bought back in 2015, but 2 years later value of that money is increased x100. What I cannot tell them is whether the past will be repeated, everyone should take the risk on their own.
