The one problem I have with all electric vehicles is their limited range or more specifically, how long it takes to recharge them. I'm a field service engineer and that means traveling to a customers site. For time and economy reasons, if they are less than 500-750 miles away I drive there vs flying because when flying, going through the airports adds around 2 hrs to the stated flight times so travel time (which is billed to the customer) is about the same.

Then there is vacations. My GF and I routinely travel all over the state and will typically put several hundred miles on my Jeep each day. In both cases the 1/2hr to several hours it takes to recharge makes any EV a no-go for us.

Don't lecture me please, just tell me if you can help me I already know that bitcoin mining is not extremely profitable but even if I can barely pay back the price of the card in 2 years and make a little profit I don't care because I plan to invest a lot.<snip>
You cannot use a GPU for mining Bitcoin because difficulty is far far too high for them to be even remotely usefull. Bitcoin mining has been an ASIC-based hardware world since 2014. ref https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2415854.0 mainly point-3.

You CAN use a GPU to mine the plethora of other coins aka altcoins aka crapcoins.

Perhaps you think that the word 'Bitcoin' is a generic term for any crypto coin? It is NOT. It is 1 specific coin with its own tags, BTC and BTC, just as the USD and Yen or Euro are specific forms of fiat with their own tags/symbols.

Isn't speculation and volatility a problem for Bitcoin?
Is it a problem for FOREX or stocks traders? No and yet both have the same traits. Why should the crypto scene be any different?

So basically some "attention whore" decided to attract some attention and get in the newspapers by turning a hamster into a cryptocurrency trader.Great job, that guy received his 15 minutes of fame.
A hamster(or any animal) doesn't know what he's going and can't make any rational decisions.<snip>
Hmm, sounds like someone is miffed that the hamster is possibly a better trader than they are? Wink

The first month was rough. Mr Goxx started on 12 June with €326 (£278), placing an order for Stellar (XLM). One month and 95 orders later, Goxx Capital was down 7.3%.

But as of 27 September, the intrepid trader's career performance is up 19.41%
Wonder what it knows/picks up that us Humans don't. It's doing better than my interpreting the spots on goat innards....

Accidents like that are why as a responsible Engineer who is well versed in high power distribution I always MUST say that running heavy electric power IS NOT A DIY THING! If you are not a licensed electrician with experience in doing commercial/industrial power then hire one! This safety video on on arc flash was using a 230v 200a panel and very graphically shows what can happen. FF to the 2 min mark for the horrendous fireworks. At 4 min into the vid they test what happens if your PPE is not fireproof... That test was ran with SCC (Short Circuit Current) limited to 10kA - the same level most homes are limited to.

Commercial/industrial panels are usually rated for SCC 100kA or more. Another vid is here where they are using 480V industrial panels.
1093  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Google censored my review of the Wuhan Institute of Virology. on: September 28, 2021, 01:11:23 AM
Ah.
Um, Google Maps is not a place for social commentary. Ja 3rd parties are allowed to provide commentary about locations but there are limits to what it can cover. More to the point is that places that are shown by GMaps - in this case a foreign governments research facility -  are encouraged to monitor commentary and if they deem fit - request it be removed.

Google did just that and safe bet they did not do it without them being requested to do so by the Chinese gov. Google operates coverage of China - and all other countries - by permission of the countries governments. Said governments can also restrict designated areas to only be displayed as blanks, case in point strategic military areas such as Area-51 (search it yourself) though considering just how damn useful a geographic database like GMaps can be, most countries are pretty much open-door about coverage.

Somebody please tell me what happened to the seasonal flu, the last two years. Miraculously gone from the face of the Earth?
<snip>
Nope. The incidence of people getting a cold has also plummeted. They didn't go away, there are just far fewer cases simply because most folks are social distancing, washing hands more often and wearing masks. Ya know -- aside from the social distancing part, all the things you were supposed to be doing to reduce cold & flu transmission in the first place.

Since Google has censored my review of the Wuhan Institute of Virology, I am going to post this review right here and spread the message as far and wide as possible:
<snip>
For the purpose of discussion you should let us know how/where Google censored you: In their chat area? Google Spaces? Blocking you from their search engine? Or worst case - deleted a Google Doc?

With most coin wallets you can always CPU solo mine but you can’t do it with Bitcoin core because the developers removed that option years and years ago when people have long stopped CPU or GPU mining with the Bitcoin core wallet. So this is why it doesn’t work.

Please ,make this elaborate
Is it the reason why i can't reconnect to a pool?
Even with a LINUX system and the gethashespecsec optimisation...
How then do MINERS mine succefully?
As n0nce said, read the pinned topic at top of this area, mainly point-3.  Because BTC difficulty is so high using CPU/GPU to mine it is virtually impossible. Because of that fact CPU/GPU mining code was removed from Core long ago. Without the mining code you cannot connect to any BTC pool.

Oh damn that BM1397 code I delivered the other day was no good I guess Wink
(certainly a first for anyone on the planet Smiley )
So, when BM1398? Are you still working for them or is this for a third party? Or is kanominer coming out so people can replace their cgminer?
The S17 chip driver code was written for Sidehacks new stick and is in Kano's git for all to see. A little out of touch regarding the hardware area are ya?  Wink

Hello, please, I'm trying to start mining with newpac, I've been trying to connect to a swimming pool for 5 days, but unsuccessfully. Can someone write me detailed instructions on how to do this. Thank you
What pool are you trying to use? Did you see my above reply? Other than that, 1st page of this thread should have all the information you need.

Um, what web translator are you using? 1st it thinks 'mining' is 'tow' or 'towing', now it suggests using 'swimming pool' instead of 'mining pool'... Cheesy
1100  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: September 24, 2021, 07:21:21 PM
An interesting thing to consider is how this will affect miner production in China. Bitmain, Inosilicon and MicroBt are not only Chinese-owned but also do all their assembly of miners in China (ja BM also assembles some in Malaysia but that's moot for this) which raises the question: How do they do burn-in testing?

Burn-in requires mining and there are good odds are that during testing at least *some* of the miners will hit a block. If they hit a block they get paid or they might be in a PPS pool where they always get paid. Um, either way that is now illegal in China...

Canaan I'm not sure about. While their headquarters is in Beijing I *think* their assembly operations is in Hong Kong. If so then due to HK's 'Special Administration' status they might still be ok. Canaan still currently has 958.80THs pointed at KanoPool.

My guess is that BM, Inno, & Canaan et al may end up having to divest themselves of all direct production of miners, startup new independent companies headquartered outside of China and then license their designs to said companies for the miners to be produced and sold from outside of China.
