1081  Local / India / Re: RBI going to introduce semi-closed pre-paid payment instruments on: July 26, 2015, 03:15:42 AM
I think these would only be INR based. So no immediate effect on bitcoin.
The positive bit is that RBI seems to be moving forward on regulation. It is no longer clamping down hard on anything to do with money transfer.
1082  Local / India / Re: Non-exchange BTC startups / companies in India on: July 24, 2015, 04:37:58 PM
Actually a lot of other things would be cool too . Exchanges are plenty , and for within India only 2-3 will do . I am also interested in starting up or working in a start up specially bitcoin related in the future. I really think something along the lines of startups in Philipines would probably get a lot of interest here in India.

Anything to do with money transfer, you have to be very careful. Too many regulations for NBFCs.

Arrests in stocks, Bitcoin fraud tied to JPMorgan hack

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/business/arrests-in-stocks-bitcoin-fraud-tied-to-jpmorgan-hack-report/articleshow/48167190.cms

US and Israeli authorities arrested four men in two separate fraud schemes on Tuesday that media said were linked to last year's hack of computers at JPMorgan Chase.

The court documents in each of the cases, one an Israel-based ring running a pump and dump scheme for US-traded penny stocks, and the other an illicit US Bitcoin transfer operation, did not tie them to the theft of confidential details on millions of clients at the giant US bank.
1084  Local / India / Re: Lack of payment processing provider for Indian merchants on: July 21, 2015, 05:09:06 PM
I never have to pay anything extra when paying online, and sometimes even get discounts. In addition the points I get on my CC allows me to get some useful vouchers from time to time.

I don't see why I will try to pay in Bitcoins.

I guess it will take some time before merchants start passing on cost savings to customers.
Until then, there is nothing in it for bitcoin users.

1086  Local / Press & News from India / Re: [2015-07-18] ING Bank: Customers Not Blocked From Buying Bitcoin on: July 18, 2015, 04:27:06 PM
I don't think this article is talking about ING in India.
Bitcoin isn't big enough in India for banks to be worried about customers using their accounts to buy bitcoins.

polynesia, a significant number of your posts were Copy-Pasted news articles which are disqualified by the rules. However, they're being posted in a very relevant location with quality traffic. Therefore, I have removed the restriction on Copy-Paste content and will instead evaluate Copy-Pasted posts on a case-by-case manner. 1088  Local / Press & News from India / Re: [2015-07-12] BS: Indian startup sets up crypto-currency platform for Greeks on: July 16, 2015, 01:15:19 AM
Leaving trestor aside, Indian media understands shit about cryptocurrencies.
Before 2015, for past 5 years they were busy talking about drugs (silk road) & money lost (mtgox) everytime bitcoin's name came up and I am yet to see something that talks about blockchains, let alone bitcoin 2.0.

You forget the ponzi scheme stories. Smiley
I think we need some success stories in the Indian space for the media to get really interested and then take some effort in putting together a story.

Surfing the dark net for drugs

http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/bangalore/surfing-the-dark-net-for-drugs/article7414381.ece

Usage of TOR Browser – originally developed to subvert government surveillance – as well as the proliferation of bitcoin – a virtual currency – allows for easier, anonymous access to contraband.

 Players in the dark net
TOR (The Onion Router) browser delivers untraceable access to the Internet by linking all the computers onto a network. By routing connections through a chain of users, the IP address of the user is kept hidden. India is estimated to have between 500,000 to 1 million daily users of this browser (Oxford Internet Institute)

Bitcoin
This cryptocurrency has no centralised authority. Encryption makes online transactions between two parties anonymous. Creation and sale of bitcoins has become a big market. One bitcoin is worth around $265 (around Rs. 16,000).

It seems to be impossible to talk about the dark net without talking about Bitcoin...

Indian startup sets up crypto-currency platform for Greeks

http://www.business-standard.com/article/pti-stories/indian-startup-sets-up-crypto-currency-platform-for-greeks-115071200536_1.html

An Indian startup, claiming to be a non-profit organisation, today said Greek citizens can get 2,000 euro each in form of a virtual currency in lieu of promissory notes signed by them.

The company, named Trestor Foundation, also claims it is the only global organisation that can help people in Greece to get the money despite the capital control on bank withdrawls imposed by the government there.

And Trestor continues to remain in the news.  Smiley
1091  Local / India / Re: Lack of payment processing provider for Indian merchants on: July 14, 2015, 06:16:16 PM
he doesnt pay any fees to his card processing merchant as well as they give so much volume to them.

I am surprised at this. Is the fee waiver temporary or permanent? Is it for debit cards or credit cards as well?
It would be tough to imagine credit card companies not charging fees.
1092  Local / India / Re: Bitcoin INDIA on: July 14, 2015, 06:13:32 PM
Tough one.

The Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act specifies the following
The disrespect to the Indian National flag means and includes —
(f) putting any kind of inscription upon the Indian National Flag;

But what do people say about this?
1093  Local / India / Re: Concerned about Tainted/STOLEN coins on: July 14, 2015, 06:00:24 PM
Are tainted coins really an issue?
Use a good mixer, to obfuscate linkages. That would solve all your problems (for a small fee, of course).
1094  Local / India / Re: Can a bitcoin Company advertise on Radio/TV in India? on: July 12, 2015, 01:51:13 PM
Actually yes those kind of ads will increase awareness about bitcoins and not a particular company , but if the people listening in think of buying bitcoin then they will likely go to the trading sites that are in India , and it will likely be the big companies, so only they should consider doing it.

But if it has already been done and wasn't successful , then its hard to comment if it will work.

You do have industry-wide campaigns (I can think of milk, eggs, etc), where companies pool resources and the focus is on promoting the industry, rather than a particular company. Once there are enough companies, this can be attempted.
Some kind of foundation or alliance can do this in an effective way.

Yes, but does any foundation exist in India currently?

Do you have an escrow in mind for this deal?

Is this the product you have in mind?

1096  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Is it possible to launch a Bitcoin ETF in NSE/BSE ? on: July 11, 2015, 04:38:31 AM
How the people, who will lock their bitcoins in creating the ETF fund, will be benefited ?

No one knows the answer to my question ? How come the promoters of an ETF get benefited ? Please note that, I am not asking about the traders who'll trade that ETF. I am asking about the people, who lock their Gold/bitcoin in creating a Gold/bitcoin ETF.

There are fund management charges (although very low).
So if a lot of people invest in the fund, the people who run the fund benefit.
1097  Local / India / Re: Any Bitcoin users from Tamilnadu? on: July 10, 2015, 01:09:39 AM
Hello,

I am a Bitcoin enthusiast from the city of Coimbatore, although my native is Tirunelveli. I've known about bitcoins for 3 years, still haven't had the chance of getting some decent amount of coins. I would like to hear from fellow Tamil Bitcoin users. Smiley

Tamizhandaa!!

Depends on your definition of decent. Wink

Greece's cash crisis paves way for bitcoin's boost

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/business/greeces-cash-crisis-paves-way-for-bitcoins-boost/articleshow/47998136.cms

Demand has never been stronger, he says, up by 500 per cent in four weeks. When starting from zero though, even 500 per cent doesn't go far. Greece is a country of more than 10 million and an average age of 43.5. A quick and un-scientific survey of 10 people on the street showed just two people had heard of bitcoin.

Greece seems to have caught everybody's fancy. Lot of articles linking Bitcoin to Greece.

My name is still in the badass cool down list on the OP.
