1081  Economy / Exchanges / Re: I know who has your coins at Crytpsy... (Update) on: January 13, 2016, 07:54:37 PM

Taking almost 2 weeks to respond to complaints via twitter would have been a huge red flag, and that was way back in November.  Many people still had coins in here and it astonishes me.  Both Reddit and this board properly warned people.

This is the latest about Cryptsy and it's based on what sources inside the exchange told cryptocoinsnews. A Cryptsy employee admits "Our site is [messed] up at the moment", and cryptocoinsnews gives the same information as the other news sites that Bitcoin withdrawals are impossible, but some altcoin withdrawals work.

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/cryptsy-site-messed-moment/

Look at the comment section of the article about the timeline.  Someone has highlighted his recent divorce with a timeline and the wife seems to be creating issues with Cryptsy and the investors.

The best thing that could come from this would the ability to convert fiat money into bitcoins directly from their website.

Yes, that would be great but IMO the only good thing to come from this.  I would love to convert ebay and etsy sales into Bitcoin and this could be a way.  I was really hoping for OpenBazaar to open before paypal tries to play the game. eh.

Good news/Bad news.  It is clear that paypal knows that it has to get on board with Bitcoin or get left behind.  Great news in that it is great press for Bitcoin and may get Paypal users to get some Bitcoin.  Bad news in that Paypal is..well Paypal.  Isn't this what Bitcoin is trying to separate from?  Xapo is cool, why does Paypal need to buy it?

1085  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [SXC][NSFW] Sexcoin - Crypto for the Adult Entertainment Industry on: January 13, 2016, 02:11:18 AM
Get your altcoins out of Cryptsy, now! Withdrawals are already not working for 10+ biggest altcoins trade-volume-wise. Nor Bitcoin. If you fail to react to current situation you might lose double because not only you might lose your altcoins but Cryptsy demise might result in altcoin available total supply dropping massively hence price increase due to all lost coins.

Interesting what you said about Cryptsy demise resulting in altcoin supply drop...do you have any idea how significant it could be.  Any particular alt coins it would happen to most?  I am seriously surprised people still have coins in there.  There have been countless warnings on this forum.

Cryptsy was the major or even the only one exchange for many altcoins.

Has anything like this happened before?  A large exchange going down taking coins with it?  Sorry I am relatively new to bit and altcoins.
1086  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 13, 2016, 01:55:52 AM
China is trading and where are they going with this?  It seems to have stabilized in the 420s which is good.

Why not spend the money you would put into powerball into Bitcoin?  I read an article about the mentality of the wealthy and they do not play the lottery nor put a lot of stake into higher education. Too many articles out now about powerball being rigged.
1089  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Augur - a decentralized prediction market platform on: January 12, 2016, 11:43:23 PM
Great project!  Looks like you have a great team and the concept is fantastic - I like that it is like crowdsourcing the market and that decentralized predictions remove the possibility of manipulation and corruption.  The website looks nice and clean.  I will keep an eye on this project.

Anyone else traded much on this yobit.com?   The cryptsy situation is saddening Sad.
Is this available on Yobit.com? because I am listening first time Cryptsy is big shock for me so never recommend to any one for this

It is on yobit.  Cryptsy isn't dead yet, but I'd becareful.

I have used yobit a bit and have not had any issues.  Make sure to read some of the numerous posts on what is going on with Cryptsy and definitely be careful.
1091  Economy / Economics / Re: Sell Everything? on: January 12, 2016, 09:50:10 PM
Bitcoin could look like a safehaven in circumstances like this.  I agree that more and more jobs are going to be automated.  You can see that happening everywhere - more self checkout (cashier jobs at risk), banking through mobile app (bank teller jobs at risk), and I have read articles of increased AI in many areas of production.  This will happen, just how long who knows.
1092  Economy / Economics / Re: Netflix Exec Suggests Streaming Video on: January 12, 2016, 09:46:41 PM
This would be fantastic if Netflix uses Bitcoin.  This is the kind of press we need.  Every demographic uses Netflix and I think it might get more Boomers on board.
1093  Other / Off-topic / Re: Breaking News Amazon bans authors Crypto Books and Bitcoin Books on: January 12, 2016, 05:16:38 PM
This image says it all

Amazon notice they banned 3 books on Crytpo and Bitcoin all by Dr. Adoni

LOL

Obviously, someone is trying to keep his books from the world, come on since when does Amazon BAN books on crypto and bitcoin?

It validates his claims, IMO.

So above you see people saying 'no proof' or 'no substance' and the article has that image.

IT PROVES AMAZON BANNED 3 CRYPTO/BITCOIN books

That's a huge story.

What's in the books that Amazon has banned?

Well the author is famous for saying certain math professors are NSA Spies and the NSA has backdoored modern crypto.

Seems Snowden said the same thing but he didn't have the high level info that explains HOW THEY DID IT.

These books have that info, the PRIME ALGORITHM creates relationships amongst large primes released by groups controlled by the NSA like NiST.

Now some like to see their names high on popular threads so they piss all over threads they don't like.

HUGE STORY

It's a big deal.

Banned authors get major press the story will have legs.

I agree, definitely interesting.  If the books were not a threat or have valuable information why ban them?  Is it about this particular person or simply the subject?
1094  Economy / Economics / Re: Passive Income on: January 12, 2016, 05:13:42 PM
Passive income is just that, passive - you do nothing or very little for it.  I think of gathering rent from a rental property and massive investments as passive income. If you work hard enough with online ventures you can get passive income by building an audience or referral base.  Having referrals for faucets and signature campaigns could be considered passive income.  I have old blog posts from another subject that is still collecting ad money, yet I am not posting anymore.
1095  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto found and is homeless? on: January 12, 2016, 04:06:48 PM
This seems more like a homeless awareness article than about Satoshi.  Actually a clever way to call out to techies in SF to look around and be aware of the homeless, it might be Satoshi. It is true that only a small fraction of people in San Francisco notice the homeless - same goes for Seattle and Portland.  I don't see the article as trolling rather it is satire addressing the homeless mess.
1096  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bitcoin community votes on creation of more bitcoin on: January 12, 2016, 04:01:37 PM
this is a great thread and a good question.

Hopefully more people can weigh in on their thoughts. I really would like to know exactly how that would happen
or how it would be decided

I agree, very good question and topic.  I have the same question, can it ever go past 21 million coins and who and how is it decided?

If someone changed their code from the 21 million limit to a higher inflating limit, it becomes an alt-coin and bitcoin itself goes on with the 21 million coin limit.

There would be a fork between the two block chains, one fork would be bitcoin, the other inflate-a-coin or something like that.  Everyone who had coins pre-fork would have coins on both forks.

In all likelihood, the fork with the inflation built in would lose value quickly since it would not hold value over the long term.  Smart people would sell their inflate-a-coin coins and buy the real non-inflated bitcoin.

thanks for the response.  What does this mean that "smart people would sell their inflate-a-coins..."  How will these coins differ from Bitcoin?  So if I have 2 bitcoin in a wallet online are they still bitcoin?

Let's look at what happens:
1. You have bitcoin as it is now.
2. Someone decides to fork bitcoin to create a new coin that includes some inflationary provisions.
3. At this point you have the original bitcoin and the inflate-a-coin fork.
4. Every person who had coins on the original fork has coins on both forks right after the hard fork.
5. Bitcoin continues along with the 21 million limit.  Inflate-a-coin also runs in parallel - assuming you got people to switch to this new fork.

So you have the smart people who are saying, "inflate-a-coin is not a good store of value, so I'll sell my inflate-a-coins and buy bitcoin with them.  Then I can buy back more of the inflate-a-coins later if I want to for some reason and get more of them since they are losing value due to the programmed inflation."

OK, that makes sense thank you for a great explanation. Who are the potential people or groups that would be interested in a fork to create a new coin?
1097  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When will Bitcoin become obsolete? on: January 12, 2016, 01:40:36 AM
I don't think bitcoin will ever become obsolete. Seems impossible, the reasons why people are holding off on using bitcoin, even the ones that know about it,
is because of what the media feeds them. A lot of people think that the news that they watch or hear is accurate.

exactly.  The media is a big factor on how people perceive and then proceed with a decision. The price is healthy right now and has remained that way for several months through some not so good press.  Bitcoin is holding its own but more mainstream press will certainly make people trust it more and perhaps buy in.  It will not become obsolete anytime soon - it is just getting started.

The one thing you can count on with Bitcoin is that it will definitely go up...then definitely go down...then go up...then..well you know the rest.
