1) Spot lockup deadline

3 weeks is good!

If we go with Sunday (September 3rd), then the deadline should be August 13th. 3 weeks is decent since we need to determine the draft order and give everyone time to mock draft.

2) date of draft day

Sunday, September 3rd

3) Any Veto's on Yahoo and Seek3r joining the league?

No. Allow both to join the league.

4) Keep me as Commish?

Yes.

5) Keep DW as treasurer?

Yes.

6) should we go into debating and voting for rule changes before the player list is set and dues are collected?

League rules don't need much changing, my only issue is with the waiver order. I believe that the default setting "reverse standing" is a better option since "continual rolling" can be in a way exploited, with higher seeds receiving top priority as long as they play the waiver passively. Reverse standing will also improve league competitiveness by providing a much-needed boost to teams with bad records mid-through the season.

I could argue that someone not "playing the waivers" is using less of it up, so they are more deserving of getting that next spot in the order.  Why should someone be rewarded for playing poorly? They could be picking up and dropping players like crazy AND get preferential treatment on the waiver wire...I'm not a fan of this personally.

That Hall of Fame game sure was boring, can't wait for the real season to kick off!
1082  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Appropriate percentage of income for gambling on: August 05, 2023, 12:09:25 AM
As I'm reading through so many of these responses, I can't help but wonder how many of you are actually investing the right percentages of your weekly pay to necessities such as your retirement plan and healthcare, and which of you are using money that would go to those important things are going to your gambling habits.

I don't have a % set of any sort. I bet when I want to make bets. If I had a percentage I'd be an out of control gamblers, which thankfully I've never been.
1083  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation overpowers the value of money on: August 04, 2023, 12:27:03 AM
Nice write up here.  This is something that I'm often discussing for work.  Here in the United States inflation rose to 40 year highs, somewhere around the level of 9-10% (on average).  Some stuff inflated 60-7-80%...crazy stuff. Like seafood for example exploded.  Thankfully we've managed to get it to come back down to earth..where they say it's around 4% or so, but I still feel like it's much higher.

FINANCE TIP:  Never keep your cash savings at a regular type bank accounts such as Chase/Wells Fargo/etc. Make sure you use online banks (or some credit unions) which offer much higher interest rates.  Bannkrate.com does a good job of showing who's currently got the best rates.  Just for example Chase banks and Bank of America (the worlds two largest banks)savings accounts have an annual interest rate of .01%.  Ally Bank has an annual interest rate of 4%.  One is keeping up with inflation and one isn't even close..ie you're losing money in it!  INSANITY
1084  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Is Not Crypto, The SEC Confirms on: August 04, 2023, 12:01:40 AM
I have to deal with the SEC on a regular basis working in finance, and they are a bunch of fucks let me tell ya (not nearly as bad as FINRA however).  Anyways, finally they get something right.  It's true, bitcoin is very different from most coins.  Most coins (shitcoins) realize that they can't compete with bitcoin on any level when it comes to being a coin that has it's same features just better, so they have to do something to attract customers, and that's when they turn their coins in to securities.  Honestly regulation was well over-needed in this space.
1085  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Buying food with BTC on: August 03, 2023, 11:52:53 PM
I mean you can always get a credit/debit card which pays back rewards points in the form of satoshis.  I know some of my buddies use those.  I have to say while living in Chicago, I never saw too many stores, let alone grocery stores that accept bitcoin as payment. I did see a few places like food stands and a family owned convenience store that did, but never any major grocery stores.  I think we will see this more commonly...eventually, though.
1086  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: August 03, 2023, 11:43:11 PM
Get rid of the kicker? The kicker is a fantasy football institution since time immemorial. Getting rid of the kicker is like asking Catholics to give up rosary beads.

I'm in agreement with all this. A couple other things we'll also need to decide on is what the payout structure will be for the winner(s) and how many teams we have advancing to the playoffs. If hhampuz is out we'll need to find another player or cut one and go back down to 10... 11 teams is too weird. Personally I hope he stays in.

lol.  I'm in a league where they force us to have 2 kickers.  It's the dumbest league ever but I play in it because my best friend from HS asked me to co-manage it with him years ago, and it's a way for us to stay in touch and what not. Anyways I keep trying to get them to change the rules but they won't budge. I named my team "2 kickers 1 league" ..they weren't amused Smiley  (hopefully you get the joke there)

EDIT:  Everyone enjoy the Hall of Fame game tonight...first game of the season, even if it's preseason it's still NFL football!
1087  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ADVICE]Boy Wins $46k from Sports Bet but Can't Tell Strict Religious Parents... on: August 03, 2023, 11:28:21 PM
lol...dude move the fuck out of the house.  Okay to be fair, I've got close friends in India who I know live with their families their entire lives as part of their culture/religion...and this is actually something they like to do as well (As an American, this is very hard for most of us to understand, as growing up and becoming adult and moving out of the house is all kids want as they grow up..that's what we look forward to) and maybe this is the case with your friend?  If so, if he chooses to live with them as an adult because of cultural reasons..than I would say be honest.  I'd also say sorry but I'm a damn adult, I can bet if I want to.

Sounds like he's got enough money to leave the house now if he wants.
1088  Economy / Collectibles / Re: I'm Selling My Huge Coin Collection on: August 03, 2023, 05:02:11 AM
Some interesting stuff here. You mention you have thousands of coins in your collection ? I would suggest making files with multiple photos using sites like Imgur, that way everyone doesn’t have to click each individual photo. Will just make it so much easier to go through. Kinda hard to keep tracking what you’ve clicked one by one.

Look forward to seeing what else you have.
1089  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: August 02, 2023, 10:19:19 PM
I'm good with pretty much everything laid out in those questions.  I think we should draft on a Sunday. I can make most Saturdays work, but Sundays I think are the best days for most people.

I also think we should start with making any league changes before we get all 12 players locked up, no big deal not having that.  I say we start with getting rid of the kicker position.  I can't remember what else I though we should consider changing besides that, will have to review the leagues rules from last year. thx

@Hueristic. I recently read your email. I am certainly joining this season!

On the other details mentioned in this thread, I would like to vote for the same donation amount to the pot of .0025 similar to last season and also vote to use the same website Yahoo Fantasy. All of the other changes being discussed within the fantasy league, I will vote yes of most of the participants agrees and will also vote yes.

Also, welcome to @yahoo62278 and @SouthPark's victi, I mean recruit hehehe.

I agree with you that sticking with Yahoo makes the most sense (though Sleeper is really growing on me and I believe is either the best or will be the best fantasy app before long).  I also agree with .0025BTC being a good amount as the buy in.
I'm super curious to see how this Jets team does this season. Adding Aaron Rodgers, probably picking up Dalvin Cook, and a top 5 defense I can see them winning 10-11 games this season.

When are we planning on doing the draft?
The Jets should bet quite good and fun to watch.  Still not sure if they are adding Dalvin Cook.  If they don't, they obviously think that Breece Hall is good to go, which would be great news for them as he's better than Cook and of course much younger.
1090  Economy / Economics / Re: What's the effect of having plenty children to the national economy of a country on: August 02, 2023, 10:11:49 PM
I don't give a shit what anyone says, this world is overpopulated and is only going to get worse and worse as time goes on.  Just look at home much land we destroy each and every single day, to make way for the needs of human beings.  We are destroying are oceans on top of that.  During Covid during the harshest of times, we saw a lot of magnificent things in nature due to the fact of humans not being out and about and interrupting nature as we generally do.

IMO there should be limits to how many children people have.  But this will never happen on a global scale until it's too late. People mostly aren't willing to make "sacrifices" that won't benefit them directly.
1091  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What are your reasons for adopting cryptocurrency? on: August 02, 2023, 10:07:57 PM
If I had a penny for every time I've heard someone say "bitcoin" and "profits" around here I'd be a billionaire. I get so annoyed with people who just care about making money in this space.  I mean I get it, but when you're conversing with others on a regular basis on a forum like this, there's more to bitcoin than making money.

I "adopted" bitcoin because I work in finance and understand how corrupt banks are, as well as our money system.  The decentralized currency could change much of this, and I became enamored with it's possibilities.
1092  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It's safe to say - gambling is a guy thing. on: August 02, 2023, 10:03:39 PM
What does "and ya'll end" mean?  Yeah I would say there's no question that there's more men than women who gamble.  I think a large part of that might simply be history.  Woman through the ages were taught to do a lot of stuff differently than men, and it all stems from times where men went and drank, cursed and gambled while women were home makers.  So I think that gap has shortened now that women (at least in progressive nations) aren't viewed as just the "homemaker" anymore and are now more independent and judged as much for doing "manly" type things.

I also think women are typically more financially conservative/smart when it comes to saving money.  I've gathered this from years of working in finance.
1093  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: August 02, 2023, 09:59:09 PM
One on one is way different than team ball.  This kid would look absolutely lost on an nba court right now.  Beal will be fine, he is going to get a lot of spacing with book and Durant on the court as well.  I wouldn't worry if I was the suns.

Yeah that's what I was going to say, one on one is an entirely different animal and crazy shit happens.  I've seen some great players lose to players who aren't nearly as good or talented simply because of a few bad shots and odd things that happen that normally wouldn't.  But also this Flagg kid is one of the top prospects and the #2 prospect for the 2025 class.  He'll be going to any school he want's and may not stay long in college, so it's not like Beal was playing just some dude.

https://fadeawayworld.net/16-year-old-nba-prospect-cooper-flagg-reportedly-destroyed-bradley-beal-in-1-on-1-game-who-got-mad-at-him-and-started-cussing-him-out
1094  Economy / Economics / Re: These are the top 100 brands by value in 2023 on: August 01, 2023, 09:39:05 PM
I am shocked to see ICBC as high as it is.  I work in finance and have never even heard of this company.  What shocks me ever more is that TikTok is at number 10!!!  I mean this can't be true is it?!

To add on to your point that it looks like people love to watch lip syncing to stupid dance videos by teenage girls half naked, what's worse is all the data that CHINESE owned TikTok steals from it's customers.  I fucking hate TikTok with a passion.  If you're smart, you'll stay of that shithole.

No surprise with the top 5 though, those were certainly expected.
1095  Other / Archival / Re: How to manage bitcoin correctly? on: August 01, 2023, 09:34:42 PM
When BTC reached $69000. I didn't choose to sell it. but the current price of Bitcoin dropped to less than $30000. Is it the most reasonable choice to sell BTC now and turn your attention to other investments? I hope to get some good suggestions. Although I have held BTC for many years. I am not good at management.

My first suggestion is to NOT take any advice from anyone here, or to take all "advice" with a grain of salt.  There's likely not any financial advisors in this thread beside myself.  Now I'm not saying there aren't others in this thread who could help give great financial advice, but how are you going to know it's legitimate advice if they aren't a licensed advisor?

My suggestion is to meet with a financial advisor and have a well mapped out plan for retirement.  Bitcoin is inherently NOT an investment. It's a decentralized money transacting system.  Sure it's become an investment, but that's not it's main use case. Maybe selling doesn't make sense based on your full financial portfolio.  Maybe it does.  You need to meet with a financial professional or do a shit ton of educational research to find out.

Two days away from the very first preseason game!  They call it the "Hall of Fame Game".  Thursday at 7pm Chicago time.  Jets versus the Browns which would be a REALLY good game if all the starters actually played.  Since the pre-season is now only 3 games instead of 4, they may actually play starters in this game.  We sha'll see.

@Hueristic. I recently read your email. I am certainly joining this season!

1097  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Collective bets in local lotteries on: August 01, 2023, 09:26:04 PM
This is a very common practice here in the United States.  Often times when people work in a group setting (which has been decreasing ever since Covid reared it's ugly head) they will all throw say 5 or 10 bucks and buy as many lotto tickets that can be bought with the pot of money that was put together.  As you mentioned it's still going to be difficult to win, but it does in fact increase your odds...so do you want to be that one co-worker who didn't chip in when they hit the lotto and all retire while you get stuck working for the rest of your life??  Cheesy
1098  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Olympic Games, but doping is allowed?! on: August 01, 2023, 09:23:38 PM
I don't think that anyone would ever take this seriously, like this could never replace the traditional Olympics.  If you're American ( or better stated if you live in the United States) then you're likely familiar with the MLB (major league baseball) "steroid era".  This is where many players such as Barry Bonds, Mark MacGuire, Sammy Sosa etc are all known "cheaters" who took steroids.  Barry Bonds broke the single season homerun record during this time frame and it's highly disputed now as if it's really the record or not.  Many of us joke that MLB should bring back steroids because it did in fact make the game more exciting!  That said, they are a health risk and I don't see any serious professional sports outlet taking this seriously, it's also against the law in most places.
1099  Economy / Collectibles / Casascius “store front” bitcoin sign on: July 30, 2023, 07:23:37 PM
This is something I feel like I’ve never seen come up for sale here or even being mentioned at all.   Way back when I found this video while doing a search on YouTube. This is how I learned how to properly pronounce “Casascius”. It cracks me up when I see people mispronouncing it as I think most of us have been in that same boat at one point in time lol.

Anyways, just curious if anyone around here has one? Certainly a rare Casascius piece, would be a nice addition to a Casascius collection.

1100  Economy / Economics / Re: Can Twitter Stock Experience the same Rise? on: July 28, 2023, 07:04:55 PM
I've been told by friends that "Thread" is just a facebook version of Twitter, which I hate both Facebook and Twitter almost equally, so I sure as hell won't be using Thread ever.

I think Twitter is a massive pile of steaming shit.  I just saw where SnapChat's shares have been down for 5 or 6 quarters in a row now, and I think that the same can and will eventually happen to Twitter.  Elon is not nearly as intelligent as everyone thinks, and he's already started making a ton of stupid mistakes on the site.  It's a warzone shit hole more so than it's ever been..with him leading the way with petty teenage kid childish like behavior. What a joke.

I expect it to fail eventually. Long down the road, but eventually ..it'll become MySpace.
