10981  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What impact would Stablecoin bring to the economy? It may hinder Anti-Money Laun on: October 21, 2019, 01:37:13 PM
They think that Stablecoin do a better job on the store of value and serving as a mean of payment.
As a means of payment sure, but as a store of value? Something that's worth less and less as years go by is not a good store of value.

Anyway, there's a recent topic concerning stablecoins here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5194566
10982  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How much is an Bitcoin option trader's salary? Is an affiliate more profitable? on: October 21, 2019, 12:02:19 PM
How much do you think is reasonable when a trader earn per month?

In the negatives. It's not new information that majority of traders of various types of assets(especially short-term traders and definitely especially leverage traders) lose money. On eToro itself, they claim that "75% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider". I don't expect a different number on other platforms.
10983  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Aegis Authenticator, isang maganda alternative sa Google Authenticator/Authy on: October 21, 2019, 10:27:55 AM

Pwede mo nalang iimport from Google 2FA to Aegis.
10984  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Aegis Authenticator, isang maganda alternative sa Google Authenticator/Authy on: October 21, 2019, 09:05:00 AM

Mostly for the more security conscious. Gaya ng mga taong mas prefer gumamit ng KeePass2 password manager over LastPass, kasi mas prefer nilang sila ang may handle ng passwords nila at hindi through closed-source apps like LastPass. Almost the same thing with Authy. Though it seems secure enough, since closed source, hindi natin alam ang nagaganap sa back end, knowing na hawak nila keys mo. To some extent, pwede mo ring icompare sa custodial and non-custodial wallets; whereas definitely mas gusto nating hawak ang keys natin kesa ipahawak sa online wallet companies.
10985  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stable coin - a threat to the international monetary system and bitcoin on: October 21, 2019, 05:36:15 AM
I agree, they have different purposes. Stable coins is much needed in transactions to gain assurance and quality. But the bitcoin is much more faster and easy to use in transactions. It is unprintable and can send digitally without any conflict. So whenever you've given a chance to choose the platform in your transactions, always remember that bitcoin is much easier and faster.

I mostly agree, but bitcoin isn't necessarily faster(not taking into consideration lightning). With an equal fee in the ethereum network(in USD), ETH can be faster though it completely depends on how congested the mempools of both blockchains are. But yea, bitcoin > stablecoins for sure.
10986  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stable coin - a threat to the international monetary system and bitcoin on: October 21, 2019, 03:57:12 AM
Somehow it is annoying to see that stablecoins will be the first to be mainstreamed rather than bitcoin. If they will be successful then bitcoin will be left behind and will only be viewed as a tradable cryptocurrency and can no longer be used as a means of payment due to the presence of stablecoins.

Bitcoin and stablecoins aren't even in a competition. They have their own purposes. Sure stablecoins are "stable" in price, but it's not a non-correlated asset like bitcoin and gold are; which is one of the main advantages of bitcoin- being unprintable in mass amounts like the fed does with fiat. Stablecoins just makes sense right now because the economy is currently fine in the US.

In the end, bitcoin > stablecoins > bank fiat
10987  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Aegis Authenticator, isang maganda alternative sa Google Authenticator/Authy on: October 21, 2019, 03:49:19 AM

I like the fact na kaya netong mag-back ng lahat ng accounts, hindi pa-isa isa (using secret keys). Kaso wala pa silang version for windows?
I will try this on an android emulator for now. Hopefully gumana.
Yea wala pa silang Windows(and iOS) unfortunately. Though hindi ako fan ng gumagamit ng 2fa sa computer ko, yea pwede siguro through emu's like Bluestacks and Nox.

10988  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stable Coins are a Threat for Bitcoin? on: October 20, 2019, 04:27:45 PM
I definitely don't see them as a threat. If anything, these stablecoins are just fiat that are easily tradable through exchanges. Sure, they're stable in value. But isn't one of the reasons bitcoin was created is for us to have something that's deflationary? In contrast to fiat stablecoins that has values that are still controlled by the fed. Don't get me wrong; stablecoins are definitely useful; but I won't hold them for more than a few months.
10989  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: HELP! I want to invest but don't know which and how. is DigiByte ok? on: October 20, 2019, 07:52:12 AM
Lot of people invested and are used Bitcoin also, even if they don't understand it also,
so I don't think understanding is the issue here.

Sure a lot of people invest in bitcoin even if they don't understand it, but that doesn't make it right. Chances are that those people are in thinking it's a get-rich-quick scheme, and then they go complaining on Reddit when the prices drops in the short-mid term.
10990  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: HELP! I want to invest but don't know which and how. is DigiByte ok? on: October 20, 2019, 07:36:22 AM
am I able to buy part of a bitcoin with $100? currently 1 bitcoin is at $10,414.36 (Canadian).
Yes. You can theoretically even buy like $5 worth of bitcoin. Though buying that small of a amount might not be worth it, but it depends on what exchange and what country you're in.

is there anyway knowing which is destined to fail and which isn't?
There's no guaranteed way to know. But there's a very good chance that bitcoin isn't one of those going-to-fail coins. That's why you're taking a huge gamble when you're holding something that's not bitcoin and probably ethereum.

digibyte also fluctuates becoming valuable and then going cheap again, which is why I was keen on investing/ wanting others opinions on it.
As with most cryptocurrencies. Doesn't make that a good choice for long term.

ive been here for an hour and have already learned valuable information. thank you everyone  Grin
You're welcome. Do a lot of research before putting money in, even though it's just 100 CAD.
10991  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: HELP! I want to invest but don't know which and how. is DigiByte ok? on: October 20, 2019, 06:58:37 AM
this is my first time investing in anything, and I thought $100 could be a safe start in investing.
$100 is definitely a decent starting investment, especially knowing that you're just starting out.

and Digibyte due to how cheap it is and how it fluctuates (don't know if thats a good thing).
Digibyte is cheap because:

  • Next to no one is using it
  • It's current supply is around $12 billion, while bitcoin is currently at 18 million. Would you rather hold a ultra-rare Michael Jordan trading card that everyone wants or a very common trading card of an NBA player that barely anyone is interested in?

Now, just because it's cheap does it mean that it's a good investment? Definitely not. Dog poop is cheap too. If you think something is a good investment just because it's a cryptocurrency, definitely not. 95-99% of cryptocurrencies will fail. Think about it.

im open and curious upon learning more in the cryptocurrency realm and am a complete beginner knowing absolutely nothing. apart from bitcoin (which is known to mostly everyone).
Then why not bitcoin? Assuming you know a bit of information about it.
10992  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: HELP! I want to invest but don't know which and how. is DigiByte ok? on: October 20, 2019, 06:42:18 AM
Rule #1 of investing: Do not invest in things you do not understand.

Tell me. Why gave you interest into Digibyte in the first place? If your answer is because it's "cheap" at $0.007632, then you need to do a lot of reading.

P.S. I think DigiByte is crap.
10993  Local / Pamilihan / Aegis Authenticator, isang maganda alternative sa Google Authenticator/Authy on: October 20, 2019, 06:29:50 AM

Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with Aegis Authenticator, and I have no monetary incentive in sharing it.

  • modern interface
  • Open source
  • Pwedeng mag backup
  • AES-256 Encryption, password/fingerprint lock

Disadvantages:
  • Pang android lang sa ngayon

Website: https://beem.dev/
GitHub repo: https://github.com/beemdevelopment/Aegis
Google PlayStore: http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beemdevelopment.aegis
F-Droid: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.beemdevelopment.aegis

10994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how i can protect offline wallet ? on: October 20, 2019, 05:59:35 AM
Your friend didn't just magically lost his offline wallet funds just by chatting on Facebook messenger. Chances are, your friend did something amateurish like handing over his wallet's private keys on to someone(may it be via a scam website, via chat, etc). His offline wallet is just as safe as how he secures his wallet's keys.
10995  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Union Bank and bitcoin on: October 18, 2019, 04:58:09 PM
"Less charges", but does that necessarily mean na mas mura jan sa bitcoin ATM ng Union Bank compared sa Abra at coins.ph? I don't think so, pero correct me if I'm wrong. As far as I know hindi biro ang mga gastusin ng pagtayo ng ATMs so naturally mas mahal at mas malalaki talaga ang patong sa mga bitcoin ATMs compared sa mga exchanges. Swerte na siguro kung 5% lang patong nila pero I doubt it.

10997  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Yobit launches DDOS attacks against sites exposing it on: October 18, 2019, 03:06:26 PM
Not only that but the owner is now being threatened by Yobit in writing.
Here is what he received from security@yobit.net:
"Our response will be maximally damaging, we have all your personal data now"
Original in Russian:
"a вoт oтвeт бyдeм мaкcимaльнo жecтким, вcя инфopмaция нa вac yжe ecть"

Well done Yobit - true face surfaced!

Can you give us your source for this information? Those are definitely very big claims and that people shouldn't automatically believe 100% without a source or proof.

Also, though it would probably make sense that the DDOS was from Yobit, how did you or YobitScam.net come to the conclusion that it was indeed 100% Yobit that was doing the DDOS-ing?

If you didn't know this is how Yobit threatened some blogger previously (not related to above):

https://i.imgur.com/jneeHhm.jpg
Quite ballsy for them to post it on their official Twitter account though.

EDIT: couldn't find the direct Tweet link. Can you link it here?
10998  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CC Forum - London conference on: October 18, 2019, 02:58:53 PM
other than Lee ready to pounce Roubini, the whole thing was horrible all they're ego are preventing them to properly understand what the others are saying
thus no proper argument was made in most of 45mins of the conference.

Though it definitely started out really well and definitely really hot with Bobby Lee going all in on Roubini, it definitely was horrible in totality. Though like half the people in the panel are definitely people that people dislike(to say the least), it still had a chance to be a decent panel. If only everybody argued in a calm manner and with actual arguments(rather than personal attacks); and then we have Roubini that even refused to respond to Bobby Lee. I mean, I'm pretty sure he was paid to be there and he simply put the mic down?
10999  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Aegis Authenticator, a decent alternative to Google Authenticator and Authy on: October 18, 2019, 12:47:16 PM
now it is not that easy to root mobile phone.
3- 6 years ago I rooted every phone I own. now, I do not even bother to do so. I guess I'm getting old, brothers!  Grin
Yeah. I remember.. It was way simpler with my Samsung Galaxy S3 back in the day. Right now chances are you're going to trip the Nox thing and you wouldn't be able to use some features/apps like Samsung Pay and such. I'm sticking with unrooted for now. Probably for security sake also.

by the way, installed Authy and made backup of codes, the app seems nice and easy to use.
Glad it worked out well!
11000  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Aegis Authenticator, a decent alternative to Google Authenticator and Authy on: October 18, 2019, 08:20:46 AM
If I'm not mistaken the Google Auth app is nice in the way it doesn't store your data on servers, right?

So if you are rooted and able to back up the APK + data with Titanium Backup it is doing a fairly good job. It is what I have been doing anyway. Obviously Aegis offers more functionalities, so if this app is going to stick around, there is a pretty high chance I am going to switch over.

Yep! Hence The Google auth app was widely recommended before when there's not that much good alternatives. As with a rooted phone + Titanium backup, that's what I did in the past too. It's nice to have in-app password encryption though; just a small extra layer of security.

If you're going to switch over and you have a rooted phone, switching over is going to be A LOT easier. Aegis has an "import from app" feature if you have a rooted phone. It can grab the backup codes off Google auth. I suggest trying it out.
