The selection of Prasidh Krishna doesn't make any sense. He was not that impressive during last year's IPL. Went for plenty of runs, although he had a couple of good outings. Also I believed that Ishan Kishan deserved a chance in the ODI squad as well, as he was dropped from the T20 playing XI after just two matches. One of the positives is the return of T Natarajan, who will add more variety to the otherwise monotonous bowling attack.
11042  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 20, 2021, 03:01:34 AM
Let's just hope that ICC take any steps against this "Umpires call" on such scenario before the T-20 world cup kicks in. Just imagine India vs Any team in the Finals and umpire call deciding the outcome (India losing the game). Riots Riots !!!  Grin Grin

I am in favor of the status quo, especially related to the LBW appeals. If the "Umpire's call" and "soft signal" are eliminated, then it will result in complete chaos and the decision of the field umpire would be overturned several times in the same match. And this will also result in the fielding team going for more reviews and the match can get delayed due to it. We have seen this during the 4th match as well, when the third umpire took almost 15 minutes to decide whether a catch was cleanly taken or not.
11043  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: March 19, 2021, 04:44:55 AM
I am yet to see a strong performance from New Zealand outside their home ground advantage and India does have a strong team but they are not playing with their strongest team in recent times, they might be experimenting to get the right combination or whatever but i said what i said with the established team they will be playing during the World cup.

India do have a very strong lineup, but they are struggling against England in the ongoing T20 series, although they are having the home advantage. Everything else is working for India - spin/pace bowling, middle order batting.etc. But the openers are not in good form. KL Rahul had yet another pathetic outing yesterday, and Kohli wants to stick with him instead of giving opportunity to some of the younger players such as Shubman, Devdutt, Ishan Kishan or Prithvi Shaw.
11044  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The higher BTC goes, the bigger the risk/reward ratio and the less buyers enter on: March 19, 2021, 04:33:12 AM
I am tired of these ridiculous arguments from noobs. If BTC goes up, then the risk/reward ratio doesn't get larger. On the other hand, the future prospects will get better as more and more investors enter the market. Investment always picks up pace when an asset is moving up. No one want to invest in an asset when it is crashing. Things would be different if the asset is overpriced. But that is not the case with BTC. Even at current levels, Bitcoin is underpriced.
11045  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin hit 1 trillion dollars marketcap on: March 19, 2021, 04:20:48 AM
Obviously $1 trillion is a very important milestone. But this should not be our final target. If gold can have a market cap of $11 trillion, then I believe that Bitcoin deserves a market capitalization of much more than $1 trillion. Forget about gold. Even silver is currently having a market cap of $1.45 trillion, which is around 40% higher than that of Bitcoin. So our immediate target should be to overtake silver in terms of market cap.

They need to hire a few experts to guide throughout the knowledge path that can allow them to avoid being left behind by the rest of world. What truly amazes me is the fact they speak their mind without double-checking what they are saying.
Boomerang communication.

The government doesn't really care if they get left behind. Back in the 1980s, the Indian government initially prohibited computers, saying that manual jobs will be lost if computers are used widely. Then in the 1990s, they didn't allow internet for civilians for a very long time, arguing that internet is something that is exclusively used by criminals and hackers. Now once again, they are arguing that cryptocurrency is something that is exclusively used for criminal purposes. Nothing has changed, even after four decades. These people still have the stone age mentality and it will remain like that for the next 1,000 years.
11047  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Another insane win!! $ 1B mega million jackpot on: March 19, 2021, 03:58:29 AM
Sometimes, those people are confused to manage their money, especially for the win money, and they tend to buy the things that they do not need exactly.
Maybe they really need a financial adviser to help them manage their money, but maybe they need to learn how to manage their money if they cannot get it.
It will not be hard to do if they want to allocate the money to save money for their children.
That will need more efforts to manage it, but that is worth it for them, as they will not want to see their win money will not last in the short term.

This is exactly why previously the winnings used to be given as annual payments for a period of 30 years, rather than as lumpsum payment. Most of the lottery winners belong to the poor or middle class and in some cases they don't have the experience in managing such large amounts of money. This makes them vulnerable to wasting their money in various scams and Ponzi schemes. It will be better for such people to hire a financial manager, who could take care of their investments.
11048  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla Bought 1.5 B in Bitcoins on: March 19, 2021, 03:48:07 AM
There has been another sharp drop in the TSLA prices. The share price went down by 7%, from $702 to $653. I am wondering why the Bitcoin skeptics are not arguing that this is due to the BTC purchase in January (as they have argued earlier). On a serious note, there is a lot of hype surrounding the entry of Volkswagen in to the EV sector. Tesla has got a serious competitor for the first time in this sector, and that is being reflected in the share prices.
11049  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: March 19, 2021, 03:38:09 AM
If we remember this it really hurts. The effects of this pandemic have been tremendous. even for most it feels very heavy. Many have lost their jobs, have reduced income, and even have difficulty making money just to eat. lucky that crypto has really helped some of us to stay afloat. Moreover, during this pandemic, crypto conditions are actually getting better and continue to develop towards the bullish time.

According to the Pew Research Center, the number of poor people have increased by almost 130 million as a result of this pandemic. Those who have the skills to get meaningful employment through various online means have managed to stay afloat. On the other hand, a lot of the people who don't have such skills lost their jobs and were pushed to poverty. And cryptocurrency have indirectly benefitted from the pandemic. The inflation created as a result of various stimulus measures have propelled the prices of BTC.
11050  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19 effect on your country's economy!!! on: March 19, 2021, 03:28:24 AM
It seems that the absolute majority of vaccines present on the market should still cope with coronavirus mutations, and it is not for nothing that many vaccines use two-component compatibility. According to the vaccine developers themselves, if the vaccine is already developed, then it is much easier to make adjustments to it due to mutations. The most important thing is the scale and timing of vaccination of the population, and without this it will be difficult to improve the standard of living of the population that has fallen due to the pandemic.

It may be possible to make adjustments to the vaccine to make it effective against the mutations. But if they do that, then the clinical trials need to be repeated once again, and that is going to take many months. And by the time the new version of the vaccine is ready, the population may be dealing with newer and more fatal mutations and strains of the Coronavirus. For now, the concentration should be on vaccinating the population with the existing formulations.
11051  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 19, 2021, 03:18:07 AM
Yeah, vaccination rate in Russia is low, but according to official data, situation isn't bad there, they have just 46 cases per 100k people, while there is just few countries in Europe with below 100 cases per 100k peoppe.
Well, IMO some lockdown restrictions doesn't makes much sense or it's overkill. But these things goes out of this topic.

That is wrong. Russia is having one of the worst COVID 19 pandemics in all of Europe. Check this:

https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2021/03/05/russias-excess-death-toll-approaches-400k-a73168

There are unofficial reports claiming that up to 400,000 may have died from the virus in Russia. On top of that, the vaccination program is progressing at snail's pace. So far less than 8 million doses have been administered, because the Russians are not very enthusiastic to get themselves vaccinated. Russia is perhaps the only country right now with an oversupply of the vaccine.
11052  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 19, 2021, 03:08:03 AM
Pandya bowled well, but the best bowler was Bhuvi all the way just like in recent matches. After Bumrah, I regard him as the best death bowler in Indian cricket currently.

I guess the England batsmen came prepared to face spin, but they were undone by the medium pace of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya. On the other hand, the spinners were disappointing yesterday, perhaps with the exception of Rahul Chahar. It was a close match though and if England managed to restrict India to under 180, then they could have easily won the match.
11053  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-03-16][ET]What’s India’s beef with Bitcoin, really? on: March 18, 2021, 06:37:28 AM
"From our side, we are very clear that we are not shutting all options off. We will allow a certain amount of window for people..."[1] These are the exact words of Nirmala Sitharaman, India's current finance minister. This statement is issued in relation to the RBI and India supreme court's comments on cryptocurrency.

What she means is that:

1. Cryptocurrencies will be banned, but Blockchain technology will not be prohibited (which is ridiculous because Blockchain is essentially a part of Bitcoin algorithm)
2. A "certain window" of around 6 months will be given to existing cryptocurrency users, so that they can sell their holdings. Obviously they need to pay the GST (18% or 28%) and penalty (30% to 60%) on top of the income tax (42% for the topmost slab).

There are no positives coming out from India for the last few weeks, related to cryptocurrency. Things will get tough for the Bitcoin users.
11054  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19, Lockdown and repercussions on: March 18, 2021, 05:54:28 AM
We're going through a similar phase, some response measures were eased in late December/January, which included the full reopening of all retail shops and even the allowance of churches during Christmas. Along with the overcrowded classrooms of schools, it led to a backfire of the pandemic in the country.

All of this happened because the government was pursuing to cut down on Covid-19 benefits for employees/shops etc and have now resulted in a third wave of the epidemic, with the country being in the worst position it has ever been.

I don't understand the point in reopening churches and schools when the services can be conducted online. I am in favor of reopening the essential services such as retail shops, but there is no need to permit churches to reopen. But I can understand the situation in developing nations, where churches make most of the policy decisions and retain a disproportionate influence on the government.
11055  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla Bought 1.5 B in Bitcoins on: March 18, 2021, 05:29:55 AM
Bitcoin was already hyped before Tesla's $1.5 Billion investment and Elon was totally an influencer to Bitcoin because he bullish more on Dogecoin than Bitcoin. Besides, he won't have invested the Billion dollar in Bitcoin if Microstrategy CEO doesn't convince him about the possible profit the company will make if accumulate Bitcoin.
Having said that, I believe Elon will thank Bitcoin for saving his ass because his CEO position is already on probation before he invested in Bitcoin and after the Bitcoin investment he retained his position and was also giving a new nickname "Tecnoking of Tesla"

I think Bitcoin should be call a life-changing currency.

The investment in cryptocurrency is proving to be very beneficial for Tesla. Their $1.5 billion investment has so far returned close to 100% in unrealized profits. If it was the other way around, then Elon would have been in big trouble. Even now some people are complaining that the decision to invest in BTC was taken without a wider consultation. So you can imagine what could have happened in case it flopped.

Virat Kohli is once again back in the T20 rankings, supported by good performances with the bat during the India-England series. Kohli is ranked #5, while it is Jos Buttler who is at #1 position. KL Rahul is ranked #4, but he is going through a rough patch right now. Among the Indian bowlers, none of them rank in the top-10 list. Among the all rounders also, no one from India is in the top 10 list.
11057  Economy / Economics / Re: Covid-19 effect on your country's economy!!! on: March 18, 2021, 04:27:38 AM
germany had a stabil economy. It did not effect any big companys. the main problem is on the small buisness owner. so many people loose their small buisness and the thing they love doing... in overview its not that bad, but when you take a look on individuals, it could be heartbreaking

It has been one year since the lockdowns were first imposed. That means that the owners of small businesses are now without normal revenue for 12 months. Developed nations have announced all sort of stimulus measures to compensate these people. But if you are living in a developing nation, any sort of compensation from the government is likely to be inadequate (in case you manage to receive it). Here in India, I have seen some of my friends plunging in to huge losses as a result of inability to open their businesses.
11058  Economy / Economics / Re: Biden planning first tax hike(major) since 1993 on: March 18, 2021, 04:14:53 AM
If the Biden administration removes various loopholes that enable the super-rich to avoid taxes, then it will bring them more tax revenue than any of these proposals. But we all know that those loopholes will not be removed, as they enable the super-rich to evade taxes in a 100% legal way. A lot of the billionaires set up charity trusts, just to reduce the tax burden. First and foremost, the amount that they are donating to these trusts must be taxed like any other income.
11059  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Thailand government seeks measures to tackle the problems of illegal gambling. on: March 18, 2021, 03:51:27 AM
Leaving is never an easy choice, after all most people have family and jobs they cannot leave and may have even real estate they cannot get rid off that easily, also you need money for that and not everyone can just move at the first sign of something wrong in the country, so for the most part people have to put with whatever the government is doing regardless of how bad it could be, however while a banning of cryptocurrencies could be inevitable in some countries there will always be countries where it is legal and you could open an account there and deposit your fiat in case you want to sell.

Times have changed now. Countries are moving towards a more restrictive immigration regimen, perhaps with the exception of a very few such as Canada. Nowadays only the super-rich are able to migrate to other countries and change their nationality. For the others, if they want to migrate to another nation then it takes long waits of 10 years or more and huge expenses irrespective of their skills. The days of open-border policies are over.
11060  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 18, 2021, 03:40:11 AM
The pattern continues, Virat Kohli will be praying to win the toss so that he will be able to chase and level the series. The toss is a major part and the pitch might be easier to chase at night. During the IPL it will be interesting to see whether the pattern continues and most probably if matches are played here i will pick the team chasing  Grin.

During last year's IPL (2020 edition), at least during the initial phases, there was a clear bias towards teams batting first (unlike the case in this series). Out of the 14 matches in the first two phases, 9 were won by the teams batting first and 2 were tied. Teams batting second managed to win only 3 times out of 14. It is really strange. Sometimes we see a bias towards teams batting first and sometimes it is the other way around.
