11041  Other / Off-topic / Unknown Mathematician Proves Elusive Property of Prime Numbers on: June 02, 2013, 01:56:26 PM
hopefully no impact on Bitcoin?  (I suck at math)  Wink

http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2013/05/twin-primes/all/

"... In particular, “twin” primes often crop up — pairs such as 3 and 5, or 11 and 13, that differ by only 2. And while such pairs get rarer among larger numbers, twin primes never seem to disappear completely (the largest pair discovered so far is 3,756,801,695,685 x 2666,669 – 1 and 3,756,801,695,685 x 2666,669 + 1).
For hundreds of years, mathematicians have speculated that there are infinitely many twin prime pairs. In 1849, French mathematician Alphonse de Polignac extended this conjecture to the idea that there should be infinitely many prime pairs for any possible finite gap, not just 2.

Since that time, the intrinsic appeal of these conjectures has given them the status of a mathematical holy grail, even though they have no known applications. But despite many efforts at proving them, mathematicians weren’t able to rule out the possibility that the gaps between primes grow and grow, eventually exceeding any particular bound.

Now Zhang has broken through this barrier. His paper shows that there is some number N smaller than 70 million such that there are infinitely many pairs of primes that differ by N. No matter how far you go into the deserts of the truly gargantuan prime numbers — no matter how sparse the primes become — you will keep finding prime pairs that differ by less than 70 million.

The result is “astounding,” said Daniel Goldston, a number theorist at San Jose State University. “It’s one of those problems you weren’t sure people would ever be able to solve.”

Before posting I did a couple of search and could not find much about this subject.

https://www.proofofexistence.com/ could be a small project. I do not know enough about the developer.

Having so much new investment pouring into bitcoin I was wondering if anyone is working on a serious tool using the ledger power of the bitcoin network.

If not why not?

I guess not...  Grin

I love how everybody keeps posting their address here expecting something. They just jump on the thought of free coins lol. Some don;t even say anything just an address and you would never hear anything from them again if you did give them anything.

I know they started the giveaway 3.5 weeks ago but upon opening a wallet and posting your address in the giveaway thread how long was it?

Your question seems pretty clear to me.

I got their email. Clicked on the link to create the ripple wallet. A new tab on my browser with that wallet page opened. I went back to my email to click on the link to claim those free 1000 XRP. That created a new tab of course (that's the way I like it with my browser). I pasted my ripple wallet address then click to confirm. Less that 1 second later I clicked back on my ripple tab page to see when those would show up in my wallet.

There were already there.

I am bitcoin all the way and believe it to be truly open and decentralized BUT I am not attached to any dogma as the free market with the free minds behind it will decide as usual.

Created a new wallet. Got 1000 XRP.

Now what?

Paypal, western union and others can simply adopt Ripple. Buy off the company and hold on those 50% of all Ripples ever made. The network is not open source.
11048  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people in USA fear socialism so much? on: May 28, 2013, 08:30:32 PM
I don't understand, maybe I'm just too young with whole cold-war mentality born just around collapse. Sure communism didn't work out very well.

But, I do prefer some socialism to pure capitalism. So I don't realy get this whole fear of it in USA, it can't be all bad or is it? Can someone explain it to me?

maybe the consciousness works on a quantum level where and when space and time does not matter much. "Information" is not lost, just "recycled"?
11052  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Should We Print a Bitcoin Bible? on: May 28, 2013, 08:02:22 PM
What if we printed Bibles and replaced all mentioned of "God" with "The Economy", and all mentions of "Jesus" with "Bitcoin"? I think there might be some Christians that latch onto it as a financial aid book. There are Christians embracing "Satanist" ideas all the time and "switching sides", when really they are just Changing Philosophy but actually remaining within the same basic faith.

Like we can make "The Economy" tell "Bitcoin" to build a boat before the flood and save all the animals.

And "The Economy" can tell "Bitcoin" to lead god's people out of Egypt and to the land of Cannon.

Then the rightful bloodline of "The Economy", "Bitcoin", kills the giant "Debt" with a single stone and sling.

Then "The Economy" sends its only begotten son "Bitcoin" to die for our spendful ways, then on the 3rd day he rises again Smiley

Why would you want to "switch "sides" when you know who's gonna lose at the end of the book?

I am not for a Bible bitcoin. We should try a Q'ran bitcoin instead and watch what would happen on Betsofbitco.in...
11053  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could bitcoin be used to stop trolling by monetize the trolls? BitTroll? on: May 24, 2013, 03:26:39 PM
Interesting idea, but I don't think most trolls care enough whether or not they are financially harming or helping the websites they are trolling on - it's more about the reaction they get from other posters. If anything, it might encourage them as they would enjoy seeing other people spend their own money because of the trolling.

I believe the adage holds true: DON'T FEED THE TROLLS. Internet trolls are unpredictable and any sort of reaction, especially one involving money, is likely to encourage them.

I know what you mean, but that is why they will make money to the website they are trolling and not to themselves. You are not in this case feeding the troll as the troll becomes a mule for the website. I am sure it will be fun for the troll to be trolling MORE when learning about the bitTroll deal at the very start. By definition the troll is an annoyance and won't go away. You don't feed the troll. You don't have to answer back to him/her. When you reply to the troll, you enter the keyword that would trigger a troll donation directly to the webmaster.

By the way this is not a concept but a proven technology. On reddit when someone makes a comment you like you can reply with keywords that will send a x amount of bitcoins directly to that person's wallet by replying. My twist would be that the keyword linked to trolling would send a donation to the webmaster's wallet and not the person commenting like right now.
11054  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Could bitcoin be used to stop trolling by monetize the trolls? BitTroll? on: May 24, 2013, 01:36:54 AM
Ok, on Reddit/bitcoin you can send some bitcoin to pay somebody by typing. No need for a wallet address, etc. Sorry I do not have a link for a direct example, but those who know what I am talking about could post it here and who is behind it.

I was thinking the same people behind this cool coding could help a website/blog from all those trolls and have the tipping go to the website wallet.

Banning a troll is useless as he will come back, create a new ID and so forth. Trolls are working hard everyday. Why not make them work for the website they are trolling anyway? Instead of voting down a troll, you send a bitTroll to help the site. The bittroll value will be fixed and small. The bitTroll ONLY goes to the website wallet. The website, next to a tipping jar would have the keyword you would use if you want to help out getting the trolls away. Of course, there will be no guaranty the troll will vanish but he will be making money to the site and the troll will know about it by tracking how much of a good bitTroll mule he is.

By posting often the trolls help the site make money.

Simple idea based on the other idea on tipping someone on reddit using bitcoin, but I have no coding skills.

Any takers?

UPDATE: (May 21, 2013)

Top IRS official will invoke the Fifth Amendment in congressional hearing about tea party targeting program

The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday afternoon that Lois Lerner, who heads up the Internal Revenue Service's tax-exempt division, plans to invoke the Fifth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in a hearing Wednesday before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Affairs.
The Fifth Amendment provides that U.S. citizens may not be compelled to offer testimony if telling the truth would incriminate them.
Lerner's defense lawyer, William W. Taylor III, wrote to the committee on Tuesday that his client would refuse to answer questions related to what she knew about the extra levels of scrutiny appled to conservative nonprofit organizations that applied for tax-exempt status beginning in 2010.
She also will decline to say why she didn’t disclose what she knew to Congress, according to the LA Times.
Lerner 'has not committed any crime or made any misrepresentation,' Taylor's letter read, 'but under the circumstances she has no choice but to take this course.'

UPDATE: (May 18 2013)

The woman whose question prompted a top Internal Revenue Service official to admit the agency was inappropriately targeting conservative groups says she was contacted prior to the event that elicited the admission and was directed to ask the question.
Celia Roady, a prominent tax lawyer in the firm of Morgan Lewis, said she was called personally by Lois Lerner, the IRS head of the tax exempt division, on May 9.

"I received a call from Lois Lerner, who told me that she wanted to address an issue after her prepared remarks at the [American Bar Association] Tax Section's Exempt Organizations Committee Meeting, and asked if I would pose a question to her after her remarks," Roady said in a statement to U.S. News and World Report. "I agreed to do so, and she then gave me the question that I asked at the meeting the next day. We had no discussion thereafter on the topic of the question, nor had we spoken about any of this before I received her call. She did not tell me, and I did not know, how she would answer the question."

It's not that I'm a miser that likes papers with heads of dead presidents, I would gladly pay if I knew that the funds were flowing towards education, health care systems, bettering the infrastructure for the future generations or even supporting the weaker demographic, but it's not, all of that money goes to killing people, killing babies, making peoples lives miserable and generally supporting an Orwellian-totalitarian state while waging war across the globe to support the corporations, the greedy military industrial complex selling weapons to both sides through it's freelancers etc.

Do you think Bitcoin will change that? Will it put the governments on a diet?

Make sure there is no one called Lois Lerner on the Bitcoin Tax Agency first.

Gays will be fine as long as they live in the USA. Lets ask our first gay president what he thinks of the situations of openly gays in.. Pakistan?

I believe he made a video about that very subject. For once he was an honest guy.
