11101  Other / Off-topic / Re: In the future... on: January 31, 2013, 11:33:00 PM
In the future, NPOs/NGOs will no longer pay a processing fee for all donations. That would mean an extra ~$6B (with a B) available for all non-profits combined in the US alone.

Also, the same US non-profits will save no less than $20B (with a B) a year in purchasing power for items they already need, let alone the ones they have a hard time sourcing, of which will be sourced for them.

And, it would cost them nothing! Not even time, for the time they've done it the old way, would no more than equal the time spent to it the new way.

And, the entity that will act as the liaison to make sure all goes smoothly, will be self-supported, not relying upon any direct donations, endowments, VC funding, etc.

Though I used the US as an example above, there are ~200 other countries that also have hurting charitable organizations within their borders. And they'll all be able to benefit equally--in the future! (10 years max is the goal!)

11102  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC arrives with Chinese power chord, No paperwork or instructions. Fun! on: January 31, 2013, 07:26:16 PM
I was delivered sans instructions as to how to use a certain part of my body. Anybody want to give me a hand to get this thing a workin'?
11103  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The AVALON Apology Thread on: January 31, 2013, 07:22:43 PM
I was wrong, Avalon is not a scam.  I think they are the first large Bitcoin investment that was not a scam, congratulations Smiley  Good luck on filling all the orders!

Looks like we currently have two official apologies. Any more?

I'll answer that--right after desert.

I noticed the word albino was tossed around in this thread. I heard an NPR segment a couple weeks ago I thought I'd share with you folks: Albinos Find Voice in Tanzania.

Did I mention that the end buyer could recognize a better ROI than all previous buyers or, for that matter, the vig the site collects? Matter-in-fact, it can be programmed it to somewhat guarantee it.

Is it due to the fact that tier based physical rewards exist? E.G: if the pot gets above 60 BTC the holder is guaranteed an ASIC, if 1000 BTC a good car etc?

I guess you'll have to wait till it's available to find out, John, for it's currently in development.

We will not be accepting any pre-orders until Batch #1 has been tested. (humor at Avalon's expense)

  • Guesses can be entered no later than January 30, 00:00:01AM UTC.

Bruno got himself an acceptable exception by providing a formula in time (and I would check if he calculated correctly if I were his neighbor when loosing to him). All after that are post the deadline aka dead Wink

To be fair, I did not meet the deadline, and my submission was not based on any calculations. I had every intent to make the deadline, but got sidetracked and missed the UTC conversion.

I'm pretty sure I won't be off by more than BTC1 though.
11114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Real estate and bitcoins on: January 31, 2013, 05:51:46 AM
I want to buy a house one day with bitcoins. Do you think it will ever be possible? Would one need to have the entire amount in bitcoins before they could buy it you think?

what are some ways that the real estate market could use bitcoins?

It seems like bitcoins would be a handy way of buying a house in a different country than your own (with a different currency).

Yes! Coming soon!
11115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Naming of bitcoin fractions on: January 31, 2013, 05:44:12 AM
0.01 BTC = 1 internet

I see a problem with cent: this is a word used for fiat currency and it can be argued that it's an attempt to create confusion with respect to government currency (Liberty Dollar style).  It's a stretch, but when push comes to shove they'll stretch it for all it's worth.

I see a problem with scat: the word means poop in a lot of languages including Greek, which makes it mean the same thing in contemporary medical terminology and in a lot of other contexts as well.

I vote yes for Scrat. Everybody loves Scrat.

And internet can be shorten to tern.

Ain't she pretty! You can never go wrong putting animals on coinage.

11116  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin 100: Developed Specifically for Non-Profits on: January 31, 2013, 05:22:47 AM
Somebody apparently had a question about how I sleep at night:

Quote
Rassah would have you believe that the Bitcoin 100 is purely philanthropic and is extremely proud of mentioning that they've donated a whopping 4K to charities since they started over a year ago. They have almost double that amount that Rassah would rather refund to the donators than give to charities that have proven themselves unworthy by refusing to accept bitcoin donations. I honestly don't know how these people sleep at night.

First of all, they haven't "proven themselves unworthy," they simply have no means to accept it. I can't e-mail bitcoins, or send them by post. The charity actually has to have some way to receive it for us to be able to send it. And second, the answer as to why I would rather return the money, and how I can sleep with myself afterwards, is easy: IT'S NOT MY MONEY, AND IT'S NOT UP TO ME HOW I USE OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY. Nice to know there are other people out there who, when trusted with someone else's money, would just take it and use it for whatever the hell they feel like, thinking it's ok as long as it's for charity or their own personal cause. Frankly, that sounds a lot like government with taxes and social programs, so I could see why they would think it's ok. Sorry, I have a bit more integrity than that.

To be fair, I believe Rassah's statement about returning the money was due to the project seeming static, whereupon that blame was on me at the time. As for the other aspects, Rassah handled it fine.

Bitpay has still not processed the withdrawl for MyRefugeHouse, and I don't think the director will promote it until they come through.  I know bitpay has been busy, and they are looking to hire more people, but it would be nice if they could speed this up a bit.

The director is very happy since I pointed out to her that the bitpay balance is still in bitcoins, and that the value is almost $20 now.

Just received another PM, Seth, from Steve.

Quote
...if they want the 50 BTC converted, I need an email from them and to confirm it with the email we have on the account.

Please let us know if the previous BTC50 has hit their bank account. Please PM or call me if another issue arises.

Now go get us another NPO, tiger!  Grin

~Bruno K~

The accountant just told her that $492 was deposited last week, and there is still 50btc in the bitpay account.  So I guess everything is getting sorted out.  She thought it was an automated conversion and deposit.

Steve assured me yesterday that it's been processed, but do keep me abreast if it's delayed much longer.

I believe 2013 will be a great year for Bitcoin100 and Bitcoin in general. I think it's natural that this project slowed down a bit during the Christmas / New Year period. I just came back home from a two week vacation, didn't use much Internet when I was abroad. I now have more time to help with this project, if required.

Darn tootin!

Already making arrangements to have Bitcoin 100 self-supportive, not having to rely upon outside funding.

However I see a dark cloud that will make people believe that bitcoins is the wild west and we need a central authority to control bitcoin type of innovation.

Why?
