11121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Facebook about to embrace Bitcoin? on: July 25, 2014, 10:08:13 AM
I thought there was already a couple of apps that allowed you to send bitcoin through Facebook messages, although last I heard they were in beta phase and invite-only.

Sorry I cannot recall the exact names at the moment.

It would be too cheesy of Facebook to try and start their own coin... Just more layers of distraction upon distraction.

As a multi-billion dollar corporation I'm not sure they are ready to deal with the potential legal hassles of bitcoin and they likely have pre-existing relationships with other corporations that are profitably based on dollar-related fees that could possibly be done away with by implementing bitcoin.

Sorry for the dumb question but how is the BEAR allowed to bet 1,000 on 10 escrow while the BULL isn't?

Wouldn't the BULL want to employ the same leverage as the BEAR?

If they did, then the calculation would add up to 20.

delta = (initial_value - value) * leverage * config.UNIT

bear_credit = bear_escrow + (delta * Fraction(bear_escrow,
bear_wager_quantity))
bull_credit = (escrow_less_fee - bear_escrow) - (delta *
Fraction(bull_escrow, bull_wager_quantity))

delta= 1
bear_escrow(10) + ( delta(1) * (bear_escrow(10)/bear_wager_quantity(1000))
10.01
bull_credit  = (escrow(20) - bear_escrow(10)) - (delta(1) *
(bull_escrow(10)/bull_wager(1000)) = 9.99

9.99 + 10.01 = 20

I have one small bug to report (on https://cw03.counterwallet.co/#pages/exchange.html).

When I click on the "Top Pair," sometimes the "Your Balance" amount carries over from the last pair.

For instance, say I'm looking at the LTBCOIN/BTC pair and I have 10,000 LTBcoins. Then I click the TATIANACOIN/BTC pair and instead of showing my correct balance of 100 Tataianacoins it says "10,000" in the "Your Balance" field.

It sometimes carries over from asset to asset but is cleared when I click a pair that I don't have any quantity of.

Its a very minor issue but I just thought you guys should know.
11124  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How long until bots can profitably guess private keys? on: July 25, 2014, 07:33:39 AM
This drawing is misleading because it applies to brute forcing a key. If you have a safe with 6 digits, a thief would not try to try every combination. He will use your birthday, your wife's birth day, etc first. If that doesn't work, he would drill a hole and peek through the lock tumblers. Basically, no one questions the breadth of the key space - but there might be backdoors to ECC or bugs in its implementation.
That's like brute forcing with a few parameters. You try something relevant from my life, when all that fails you start trying random numbers.
How exactly is someone going to guess my private key if they know my birthday?

Some people use brainwallets that are derived from their birthday or other data that they find easy to remember.

Earlier today I tried the experiment of seeing how long it would take a bot to hack a simple brainwallet (too simple) pass phrase. The word I used was "fart" and the deposit was swooped up literally IMMEDIATELY. As in, the same second!

The bot paid a fee of 0.00001 BTC and has been pretty successful. You can see it hacked "password" on 7/11, "aaaaa" on 7/16 and again on 7/22.

I know there's a relationship between the length of a pass phrase and the time it takes to crack it but I still thought <1 sec hacktime was pretty remarkable.
11125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: so, what's the strategy to be in before a pump? on: July 25, 2014, 04:45:31 AM
Please don't.

A bunch of people trying to make money off a pump and dump only contributes to a lack of confidence in alt-coins and crypto-currency in general.

but isn't that what it's all about?

I think you're on to something, but if you increase the publics awareness about an observable trend then you will decrease the size of the pump and make the pumpers find new ways of doing things.

In the stock market, not every gain is called a pump, some are genuine gains. Gains are just a rarity in the altworld.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ponzi_scheme

but.. what do i suggest ?
find a coin you believe in and stick with it !
that has a great success rate for me Smiley

I don't think all coins start out as Ponzi Schemes... I guess you agree though if you think there are still new coins coming out worth believing in.

That's the problem though, all the coins are going down. Except for bitcoin and the coins being pumped.

I followed 20 coins on a spreadsheet every day for 2 months and the only ones that had actual gains were XCP and NMC.

The problem is, its the same damn BTC that gets recycled from coin to coin. I don't think there's actually much new blood coming into this game anymore.

I have a better idea: why don't you come up with your own damn coin?
This is my own coin now.
I'm saving it, and you can't do nothing to fud it.
It's morning here and I have a lot of work to do.

thanks.

Its fudded itself by this point. Have fun!

I would like to believe that David Seaman is smart enough, to see threw the smoke & mirrors, however it's becoming more and more apparent, that there may be some compensation involved, as there is no way this is any sort of neutral Journalism, in any shape fashion or form.

I first heard him on Joe Rogan, and I liked him. He seemed like a smart, nice, reasonable guy. But in the last few months its become certain he is way over his head with his whole crypto "hobby" and is clearly being used by Wiener and Brian Kelly. He is now as confused about his role in the crypto scene as he is about his sexuality.

The only reason I ever listened to him was because he was the first person to combine podcasts and bitcoin that I was aware of, but that's not a good enough reason anymore, especially if he is using it to accidentally promote the destruction of cryptocurrency.
11128  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [NAUT] Nautiluscoin - First Coin w/Stabilization Fund - Digishield on: July 24, 2014, 11:43:48 PM
David Seaman and Bryce Weiner talking about, among other things, Nautiluscoin. Live right now:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0mGZlH6Eu8&feature=youtu.be

Are they talking about how Bryce says one thing one week, and a complete opposite 3 weeks later?  Bryce has found another puppet, as even on his own show..he (Bryce) has shown to be an absolute liar, again.

What has he lied about? Just to be clear, if he *implies* something at one point then *says* something different later, that's not lying.

OK here's a lie: he said he's going to "develop ATMs for all of his coins."

No he's not. Its utter pump bullshit. The man is a snake. He is not good for anything except himself. He's not even very smart. Just spoiled and overconfident.

Hey Brian Kelly, maybe you can use Wieners help in promoting your next coin: MIC coin. Its the official coin of the military-industrial complex. All proceeds go directly into the pockets of evil fucks, so as you can see it already has a lot in common with NAUT.
11129  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin Bagholders Support Group on: July 24, 2014, 10:08:33 PM
LOL. I got stuck with almost 100,000 Hawaiicoins when it suddenly disappeared off Bittrex with no warning.

Its weird. I am holding a dozen bags ranging anywhere from $2 - $60 in value each, and I know they are bags, and I watch them go down a little bit almost every day -- all signs point that I should dump them, yet for the most part I can't bring myself to do it.

Initially my plan was to collect and hold coins I thought had a chance at making it in the long-term, and if all else fails I can use them as a rarity or a collectable someday. Except unlike gold or pogs these things can break down and never be fixed.

Here's coins I like that I can't bring myself to dump yet because I am still holding on to irrational hope that they will see renewed interest:

AC
CINNI
DOGE
EMC2
MRY
POT
UNO

Here's coins that I think are truly innovative but have been kicked in the shins too much recently so I scaled back my holdings (wouldn't call them "bags" just yet):

BC
DRK
LTC
MYR
NXT

Here's the two coins that actually went UP in the last month or two:

NMC
XCP

Here's a pile of shit that I can't explain why I still carry around:

NAUT
RZR
VRC

Just for fun, this is an address of a brainwallet hacker:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=347828.0

He's pretty good at it.
11131  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How long until bots can profitably guess private keys? on: July 24, 2014, 08:08:11 PM

If technology somehow increases to make it possible for bots to start guessing keys on a regular basis, the same technology will be applied to the encryption, making it harder than ever for the bots to guess a key.

Yep, in the back of my mind I was thinking this but was more or less just playing devil's advocate the whole time.

It will also be interesting to see if quantum computers can be used to speed up the mining process, but I'm not holding my breath.
11132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How long until bots can profitably guess private keys? on: July 24, 2014, 06:09:05 PM
Here is the database of all bitcoin addresses and private keys
http://directory.io

Good luck finding an address with fund  Grin

This is brilliant. I haven't actually tested one to see if they work, but you should add a "search" function to this!
11133  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [LTBc] Mining of LTBcoins is insanely profitable! on: July 24, 2014, 09:35:34 AM
Hey man what are you doing watering down our distribution amounts??

I guess you're right. There is fixed amount of coins that will be distributed each week. The more people know about LTBcoin, the more people will take part in the distribution each week so less each gets. I guess it's same as with any other alt coin I mined before. In then beginning it's super profitable, but as time goes by more and more people start mining it so it's getting less and less profitable. I guess sooner or later all good things end.

I remember long time ago XPM cost about 0.007 BTC and I mined like 50 of them each week. Crazy times. I guess now the same is happening with LTBcoin.

I think Adam's "Proof of Participation" implementation is a pretty sound idea because it is kind of hard to game the creation of original material that is thought-provoking and not just suspicious of fraud.

Its also smart for him to only accept LTBcoin for his advertising because that gives it value, and in a way we want him to succeed because we want his airtime to be worth more money, basically.

Hey man what are you doing watering down our distribution amounts??

I mean I'm all for people participating in the LTB community, but couldn't you have waited until the initial distribution phase ended?

Hmm "embarrassment" wasn't as exciting an explanation I was hoping for...

Can we keep pretending Brock Pierce hired an army of goons/lawyers to harass our P.G., forcing him "to move underground and off-grid"?

I will sell all my NAUT if BK is going to answer any of this childish crap  Shocked

Its ridiculous that you would believe a single word that comes out of his mouth. He is a Wall Street Suit to the bitter end.

They care nothing about the truth and everything about cheating you out of your money.

BK is attempting to kill bitcoin so he and his buddies can be even richer. And all for what?

Tell me Brian, what good is being rich when the world around you is crumbling and hates you? Is that what kind of a world you want to live in?
11137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How long until bots can profitably guess private keys? on: July 24, 2014, 12:32:33 AM
If I understand it correctly it would literally take years to get even one private key. Even so it is wise to move your coins from time to time. A moving target is much harder to hit.

If the threat is brute forcing a private key this is not correct. A "moving target" is exactly as easy to hit as a stationary one.

Wouldn't they go after well-funded bitcoin addresses first? I would be hammering away at Satoshi's original address first, and then go after the XCP Burn address second.

If you move the bitcoin around then the list changes and the botmaster might be working off of outdated lists.
11138  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How long until bots can profitably guess private keys? on: July 24, 2014, 12:29:09 AM
As soon as I've read the title and topic, I've waited for someone to link this image.
What more do you people need? Whoever made this was certainly a small fellow.
In other words, no matter what advancement is made in technology in the next 100 years, there is no way for anyone to brute force 256bit keys.

There also was no way to harness electricity, until there was.
11139  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin does not have a volatility problem! on: July 23, 2014, 11:18:24 PM

bitcoin is not volatile. FIAT is

I don't think you understand what volatility actually means. Compared to a basket of world currencies, BTC is very volatile. Compared to stocks, its volatile. Compared to triple leveraged ETFs, its volatile. Compared to the VIX (volatility index), its volatile. Compared to bonds, its extremely volatile.

Volatility = measure of price variability compared to other tradeable assets and commodities.

I know people here want to love everything about bitcoin so badly and demolish any criticism of it, but when does fanboydom actually outweigh the quest to understand reality, and why?

11140  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: July 23, 2014, 06:18:32 PM
I have a quick question: if we are attempting to direct people to Counterwallet to use for the first time, should we send them to

https://cw03.counterwallet.co

or

https://www.counterparty.co/

?

Thanks in advance.

It's best to use https://counterwallet.co as that serves as a "dispatcher" for available CW servers.
CW03 has the new code, but soon all CW* servers should have it. However if your referrals are related to some new CW functionality and you need to do it *now*, then send them to cw03.
If you think they should get some idea of what Counterparty is about and they don't like to read:
https://www.counterparty.co/videos/

Thank you! I appreciate it.
