11181  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do all blockchains use proof of work? on: August 21, 2017, 04:14:08 PM
First time poster here. I've been noticing so many projects using blockchains, but I don't understand how is proof of work applicable to most applications. Do they all use it? Is it necessary?

Edit: What do you call this category for proof of X?

Since nobody has answered your edit, this "category" you are looking for is called a "consensus algorithm", specifically when used to describe the system used in cryptocurrency blockchains to reach consensus. Proof of work is the most popular but you can see many new concepts coming up nowadays like proof-of-human and proof-of-time even.
11182  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ico help neede and understad in detail on: August 21, 2017, 04:04:46 PM
The simple answer to your question is YES, you can. But the correct answer should be: does your idea really need an ICO? Do you have the ideas clearly specified, do you have a business plan in place and do you have an idea of how crypto or the blockchain will help this idea or do you just want to use the anonymous features of ICO. It sounds to me just that you want to raise money for a business, and use a token to raise money.

Check out the SERVICES section under Bitcoin discussion. You will see a few people promoting ICO startup services.

Oh, looks like this is over and great news for the participating winners. Good to see the posters shut all the nonsense up about escrow too, really hate when everyone thinks escrow is necessary for everything, even when no one is risking anything. By the way,,, don't forget to share the results of the research with everyone! I left my email so hope to see it drop into my inbox soon.
11184  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 🔥 BITCOlN CASH JUST MINED FIRST EVER 8MB BLOCK!!!! 🔥 on: August 21, 2017, 08:56:26 AM
I think it's a little strange when you look at the blocks of bitcoin cash at the moment.
You have one new block about every minute at the moment. That is ten times what it is supposed to be I think.
And that means as well that many new coins are getting into the market.
I would expect those coins to create a mass of transactions, but they do not.
At the moment one block is filled with about 20kb.
To me it looks like the only group who profits right now are the miners.

This is not at all a big surprise. Who on earth is using Bitcoin Cash besides the miners, traders and the few who have money invested in it? Are people waiting to trade Bitcoin cash out to pay their bills? Is someone buying stuff on Amazon with it? Are gamblers and casinos moving big chunks of it around as normal operations. No, no, no.

Makes it no different from an alt in that respect. Remember, there are millions of tx that involve moving out BCH to sell. Those are not done yet.
11185  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][PoW/PoS180%] AltCommunityCoin [Blake2S][Bounties] - We Decide The Future! on: August 20, 2017, 07:17:16 PM
Normally I join all the airdrops I can find but I will wait to watch this one and participate later, as there are 10 rounds! The no supply cap does concern me, especially when there is no clear way for community to decide this. Shouldn't at least a temporary cap or plan be installed? Developers need to lay out a clear path, and then ask the community to decide on the final things.
11186  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Should i Buy DGB NoW ?? on: August 20, 2017, 09:34:12 AM
Should i trust or buy DBG NOW to make some good profit ?
Any one got news about DGB HuhHuhHuh

There is a very slow movement of DGB. The team and the project are all great and have a bright future but the coin remains stagnant, but it does not mean that this Digibyte coin is pure shitcoin. It has some use. You can actually invest in some right now as it is still very cheap. But expect the price to take even 1st quarter of 2018 to rise.

If you're really desperate for news about DigiByte, you only have to look at Google. Or Reddit! I would stay away from this coin... it was one of those projects that name dropped like hell, building all this empty hype about big names and big games. And of course, people like me fell for it.

Refer to https://web.archive.org/web/20160820152102/https://invesd.org/interview-5-digibyte/

Ask yourself which of this was realised. If you can even show 25% things were achieved, then yes, maybe there's hope.
11187  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: SpicaCoin⭐⭐Coin of Smart Traders⭐⭐Big Reward from Series of Polls and Airdrops⭐⭐ on: August 20, 2017, 09:25:36 AM
We can be of assistance regarding voting as there are exchanges that allow free votes like Nova and Tradesatoshi. But someone need to add spica coin first. Also, I can see now your purpose of why you created this coin, but, the challenge here is that, find strategies on how the community will have the enthusiasm to participate in each poll.

And also, do you have results for poll no. 3? If yes, did you already send the rewards to the participants & who's the winner for that? Thanks.

I hope I will be one of those lucky ones in the future... Grin

I have participated in a lot of coins that tried to use the free vote listing of Nova and TradeSatoshi - some successful and some not. I would not say listing on those places are a guarantee of coin longevity since some have also dropped out after being listed early on.

I am more wary now of wasting time with new coins. Even if I don't spend much money, the time is a pain. That said, looks like a decent coin to follow for now.
11188  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Dissapointment in WAVES & QTUM? on: August 19, 2017, 05:34:52 PM
Both are already "in profit" so you should expect the ups and downs. Remember when Bitcoin "dumped" to $300 after the >$1000 ATH? It took years to recover back the "profits" and now we forgot about that.

Waves is encouraging more decentralised exchanges. We have to support this. The more the better.
11189  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Golem vs SONM vs iexec on: August 19, 2017, 09:05:32 AM
XEL Elastic is the best choice

abandoned coin that is not even cheap anymore and developed by part timers and volunteers is the best choice ? Roll Eyes

Abandoned = wrong. This is pure ignorance and misinformation. But maybe this is the difference also with XEL supporters?
Not cheap anymore? = Cheapness means good coin? What are we discussing here? How cheap a coin is or how good a coin is? I may have been misinformed.
Developed by part timers and volunteers = Oh no, we better abandon Bitcoin because it has a lot of part timers and volunteers.
11190  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Golem vs SONM vs iexec on: August 17, 2017, 04:26:28 PM
I don't know if versus is correct terminology, but may I add Elastic into this list. They are different in quite a special sense as they are like how a lot of cryptos started: with part timers and volunteers. They had one negative issue which was one guy ran away with donated money but since no one invested, in a way no one lost anything.
11191  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OmiseGo on: August 17, 2017, 02:53:04 PM
Usually, I am very well aware of Vitalik Buterin projects. I remember earlier about Humaniq and it sounded very lively. But how is it I have never heard of OmiseGo? Did Mr Vitalik think he might just go quiet on this one instead of hyping up like Humaniq? Maybe he felt sorry it is doing badly now, but since I only have small amounts of it, I no longer worry. Just my fortune to miss out on something that goes boom.
11192  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why don't most blogger blogs based on decentralized blogging systems? on: August 17, 2017, 02:30:53 PM
Probably the same reason that more people don't invest into Crypto, they don't understand it. Bloggers seem to want to install/make a quick word press site, generate some hits, and apply for Google adsense. The later option does not take too much effort in creating, and adsense pays in Fiat for easy transfer too a bank account. Ultimately, I think it comes down to convenience.

But this does not make sense. OP is asking why blockchain writing is posted on medium and not steemit... they are already talking about blockchain why not a decentralised platform?

But you're right I think. You can make more money using traditional medium plus ads than with steemit. Steemit seems a lot of spammers and useless posts. Pretty girl picture = $500. Tech writer =$0.01 haha. So it's not so much about crypto or anything, but revenue. Trust me, pretty girl on Medium = $0.
11193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should I convert my bitcoin to Ethereum? on: August 17, 2017, 01:42:47 PM
Diversification is the smart way to go, even if you only believe in Bitcoin. At least hedge a small fraction in the top 5 if you hate them all. It isn't about personal belief after all, just a way of securing your basket.

Actually, out of crypto is also a wise diversification. Yes, store a small amount in fiat bank savings. Do it.
11194  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Did something happen in April? What influenced the price of etherium? on: August 16, 2017, 08:56:44 AM
You missed the spring madness yes? That was the period when a lot of ICOs suddenly sprang up, and most of them were using tokens on Ethereum blockchain. Bonuses were also given out for ETH users in some ICOs. Basically, demand for ETH accepting ICOs made the price jump.

Then again, all the alts were rising after BTC finally reached old ATH and broke it. Every crypto just enjoyed the ride.
11195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: BNB Binance Coin --> Looking for reasons for not buying into this coin? on: August 16, 2017, 06:48:53 AM
OKCoin and BNB Binance. Completely new to me but I am scouting for new alts to get into so will look these up. But if you're not even looking at BNB long term why would you want to spend any time on it? Just move on.

Also: what exactly is this fee you mention? Why would you get into BNB for a "free fee"?
11196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is BitcoinCash a joke? on: August 15, 2017, 10:50:08 AM
i dont think that battle has 100% been lost. bcc might be the only scaling btc if segwit 2x fails

The battle of course hasn't been lost. It cannot really be won either, because it is extremely hard to launch an alt with so much backing and reputation and have it fail. Only if the developers abandon it can it fail. What I am interested in now is, what other developments can Bitcoin Cash bring? If they somehow find a way to introduce new tech in place of simple block increase, they may have a lifesaver.
11197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Ethereum eventually become an internet money? on: August 15, 2017, 07:57:01 AM
I suppose anything could be used as a currency, even if that was not the intention. Like how prisoners trade cans of fish or cigarrettes as currency. If Ethereum has the majority of the market share, then it COULD be the de facto curency.

Realistically, I'm thinking that Bitcoin will reign as the top internet currency in the future.

I remember reading about that maybe last year? Cigarettes are now the second most valuable currency in prison. Ramen noodles are now top, and especially in USA and Europe actually! ETH may never reach de facto of Bitcoin but it could have its own niche, the way Monero has a niche. ETH the investment currency maybe.
11198  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I am now almost a billionaire because of Vitalik on: August 14, 2017, 08:14:58 PM
You should be thanking Benjamin Franklin and gang for being able to spend those Vitalik millions, you know. Thank the fiat gods, and thank the crypto semi gods and goddesses. Thank bitcointalk for being able to share. Thank the world for buying.

You are welcome!
11199  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: 30 Seconds to Win 1 ETH on: August 14, 2017, 10:35:47 AM
OP actually, this is NOT a contest so don't listen and post this in the contest thread... but please edit your first post and explain that this is a survey (market research) with a chance to win some prizes just for participating. You want to get good, accurate results for your research, don't you? Then don't run this as a contest or you will get more than half fake entrants.

Anyway I did the survey. No need to be entered. Good luck.
11200  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Have you dumped your BCC yet? on: August 14, 2017, 10:30:59 AM
Have you dumped your BCC yet? If yes, explain the following:

1) What method did you use to dump it? Did you get the split from a Bitcoin Core wallet or other method to store your private keys?
2) If you selected an exchange, in what exchange did you send your coins to receive the split?
3) Have you sold yet? If so, in what exchange and how much have you sold?

I did not own much BCC but I immediately sold it all as soon as possible. I had all my Bitcoins on a gambling site, and since it was only about $50 I did not bother taking it out and wasting fees. The site gave me equal BCC, I requested withdrawal to an exchange and sold it all for below while the price was 0.08 BTC. It was not such a useful price but I grew my BTC by almost 8%... Why the hell not, right?
